Technology has been a boon during the time of COVID-19 pandemic. Adapting to the ever-evolving scenario, the world has used the world of technology to optimize the survival instinct while keeping up with the day-to-day demands of lives. Be it entertainment, online shopping or even gaming, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) has come out as one of the advanced technologies amid the pandemic that has helped not only the gamers but also the daily consumers to make use of the technology.

The world of gaming has witnessed a massive surge in the number of users and the number of hours spends by gamers in front of their console or gaming system. While traditional games have shone in the times of lockdown and unlock, XR (AR and VR) games are breaking into the scene much rapidly than ever before.

“A major challenge for XR has been the dependency on devices. The COVID-19 pandemic has been pretty great for the gaming industry due to the huge surge of users, engagement and so much more. In terms of VR, I feel this is the time we will see users adapting to technology. Games like Oculus Quest 2 was preordered five times as much as the original, which has also helped developers. I feel the greatest challenge has definitely been the supply-demand in the case of VR since it was severely impacted by the COVID-19 lockdown. I feel India is a more AR friendly market than a VR. Simple factors such as device dependency and network connectivity contribute to the cause,” Shrey Mishra, Co-Founder at XR Central told WION.

The biggest challenge for XR gaming sector would be to keep this anticipation among the gamers high as it was during the lockdown. Introduction of cheaper VR sets and creation of addictive games have made the mark already but the way social media is catering to AR-enabled platforms such as Facebook and Snapchat will only increase the curiosity among the young gaming generation.

<h2>"AR/VR in gaming sector bound to grow"</h2>

“It is simple to see that the sector is bound to grow. New cheaper headsets will be introduced in the market with a higher level of flexibility. Virtual reality (VR) in the gaming market was valued at USD 7.7 billion in 2019 and is projected to reach USD 42.50 billion by 2025. A huge spike will be through AR-enabled messengers like Facebook and Snapchat messenger which are driving a huge wave of users to augmented reality,” Shrey added.

With 2021 set to bring new hopes and trends in the entire world with the gaming sector no exception, AR/VR trend is likely to witness a boost. Not only in the world of gaming but AR is also expected to boost the online shopping zone/&nbsp;

“Device dependency on AR and VR will steadily fall off. Web-based AR and VR solutions are the future. AR and VR will be included in corporate strategies. Digital Marketers will continue to experiment with AR/VR, if not already, will create something called experiential marketing. AR will become mainstream for online shopping.&nbsp;

“Virtual events will continue to be in bolster the Events and Entertainment industry. Even after the travel resumes, companies will look at hybrid event execution models (the combination of online and offline activations). Educational institutes will shift to AR and VR for experiential and immersive training and will no longer be restricted to PPTs and Excels,” Shrey concluded.

Evolution of esports, gaming sectors with AR/VR trends

Ahead of their first 'home' match of the Hero Indian Super League 2020/21 season, Mumbai City FC today paid a special tribute to the city of Mumbai and its fans by revealing a unique, artistically designed, site-specific mural and a large scale banner.

While President, Mumbai District Football Association, Aditya Thackeray took part in the reveal as he posed with a picture of the mural, Bollywood A-lister and Co-owner of Mumbai City FC,&nbsp;Ranbir Kapoor was seen posing with an image of the banner.&nbsp;

With the global pandemic compelling the fans and supporters to cheer from home, Mumbai City FC has created the two pieces of artwork at two distinct places close to the heart of the Islanders. The murals have been&nbsp;conceptualized&nbsp;and&nbsp;realized&nbsp;by the young Mumbai artist Tanya Eden. The mural will be housed at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai while the banner will be displayed at Goa for all the Club’s home games for the entirety of the current ISL season.&nbsp;

The mural has been artistically designed in order to paint a holistic picture of the great city that the Club represents — complete with symbols of the spirit of sportsmanship, dedication, and courage — values that its inhabitants have always stood by. It highlights how the people of the city are an integral part of the enigma called Mumbai along with the skyscrapers, the grandiose hoardings, and the beautiful marine fronts. In the course of the last few months, the city was under the scourge of the pandemic, but has endured thanks to the untiring and selfless contributions of its residents — the healthcare professionals, the security personnel, the essential workers, the dabbawalas among countless others. Mumbai City FC is proud to represent a city with such vivid talents and an indomitable spirit that rubs on the players as well.&nbsp;

Additionally, the larger-than-life banner at Goa aims to serve as an inspiration for the players who will be missing the wave of energy and passion from the physical presence of their fans. However, it is the same passion which the players will be looking to replicate on the day Mumbai City FC plays its first 'home' game of this ISL season against East Bengal on Tuesday, 1st December 2020. The beachfront scenery of Goa embodies the feeling of fervor that the players will look up to while their loyal fans support from the comfort and safety of their homes. When the players turn out in Mumbai City FC colors, they will be wearing their heart on their sleeves, and in being socially distant, will look to enhance the “closer than ever” experience.&nbsp;

Speaking on the occasion,&nbsp;President, Mumbai District Football Association, Aditya Thackeray said, "Mumbai City FC is the heartbeat of our city, and is one of the biggest clubs in the country. All of us fans in Mumbai, including myself, will be fully behind the team and will be praying for an ISL title this season. That will surely bring the smile back on the faces of the Mumbaikars! I am really honoured to be presenting the very special mural, which represents the Herculean spirit of the city and its people. As always, I wish the Club the very best for this season, and always know that as fans, we are all rooting for you."&nbsp;

Co-owner Ranbir Kapoor added, "Mumbai City FC is the pulse of this great and beautiful city of Mumbai. The vehement and enthusiastic support that we get every year from our fans is certainly something that creates a special feeling for our players, and with the pandemic having forced fans to watch and support only from their TV sets and social media, our ambition has been to bring everyone closer together. Lewis Hamilton tests positive for COVID-19, to miss Sakhir GP

Jose Mourinho claimed his side were not happy just to settle for a point from a 0-0 draw at Chelsea that moved Tottenham back to the top of the Premier League.

Chelsea enjoyed the better of a game of few chances, but Spurs showed a resilience and steel to hold out for a fourth consecutive clean sheet that bolstered their claim to be contenders for a first league title in 60 years.

"The one thing I take from the game is normally a point here is a positive thing, to stay top of the league is also a positive thing, and my dressing room is not happy," said Mourinho.

"That for me is fantastic. It's a complete change of mentality and of personality."

The evidence of the 90 minutes suggested Mourinho was indeed more than happy just to extend an unbeaten run in the league to nine games as cautious tactics from both saw the sides largely cancel each other out.

"We didn't have many chances, I agree, but how many did they have?" Mourinho added.

"It's a game where we respect them and they also respect us, nobody gambled. Everybody was in the situation of one mistake, I punish you, I win."

A share of the spoils means Chelsea remain just two points behind their London rivals in third, with Liverpool trailing Tottenham only on goal difference.

Mourinho also ensured he did not lose three consecutive league meetings to the same manager for the first time in his career and to one of his former players, Frank Lampard.

<h2>- Kane, Son snuffed out -</h2>

Chelsea were wary not to give Tottenham any chance to counter-attack in the manner that cut open Manchester United and Manchester City in recent weeks.

"The clean sheet factor against a team we've seen recently are set up to counter-attack and have amazing players to counter-attack, I think that part of our game was excellent," said Lampard. "Against Harry Kane and Son (Heung-min), we didn't really give them a sniff."

Only once did Spurs' pace on the break threaten to cause Chelsea problems when Steven Bergwijn turned inside and blasted just over the bar early on.

The arrival of Edouard Mendy has resulted in a huge upturn in Chelsea's defensive record with now six clean sheets in seven league games and the Senegalese produced a smart stop to deny Serge Aurier's strike from outside the box.

But that was the only effort on goal either side managed before the break as Chelsea controlled possession with little penetration.

Timo Werner did produce an exquisite finish to fire in off the far post, but the goal was ruled out for offside against the German international.

Chelsea began to push with more purpose early in the second half as three times Tammy Abraham could not get a clean contact on inviting crosses from Reece James and Werner.

"We completely dominated the game possession wise," added Lampard. "You can't play through this Tottenham team because they are really compact and with any slack pass they want to counter-attack.

"I thought it would be hard to create chances but I thought we had enough to win the game."

Lampard showed his intent to try and win the game by throwing on Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz and Olivier Giroud in the final quarter, while Mourinho kept Gareth Bale in reserve for the full 90 minutes.

Hugo Lloris was finally forced into a meaningful save 10 minutes from time when the Spurs captain turned Mason Mount's powerful strike behind.

But the biggest chance to win the game came in stoppage time when Giroud pounced on a weak header from Joe Rodon, but he did not get enough on an attempted lob over Lloris and his French international teammate easily saved.

Tottenham take back top spot but not 'happy', claims Mourinho

Liverpool's ever expanding injury list has prompted Jurgen Klopp to take on the football authorities and broadcasters over a gruelling schedule that he feels is doing little to protect the players.

The English champions head into Tuesday's Champions League clash with Ajax without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Milner.

Klopp was infuriated that Liverpool were chosen for Saturday's lunchtime kick-off in a 1-1 draw at Brighton just over 60 hours after they faced Atalanta in Europe on Wednesday night.

"After Wednesday, Saturday at 12:30 is really dangerous for the players," said Klopp, who also sarcastically congratulated a BT Sport interviewer for Milner's hamstring injury in the second half.

However, he is not alone and has formed an unlikely alliance with Manchester United and Manchester City, who have also faced early Saturday kick-offs after Wednesday night games in the Champions League this season.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said his side had been "set up to fail" when they won at Everton after returning from a trip to Turkey barely 48 hours before they travelled to Goodison Park.

City boss Pep Guardiola has also been a strong advocate of allowing managers the chance to make five substitutions.

"All around the world there is five substitutions. Here we believe we are a special league with just three players, we don't protect the players," said Guardiola after his side's 1-1 draw with Liverpool earlier this month that characterised the problems of a condensed calendar.

Both sides chased the game in an enthralling first 45 minutes before settling for a point as fatigue set in after the break.

"We've reached a point where you start to think that with so many matches and so many injuries, the spectacle is not the same," said Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane last week.

<h2>- Joyless football -</h2>

Despite losing a month of the season due to a late start to the campaign caused by the three-month coronavirus shutdown last season, barely any sacrifices have been made in English football to ease the strain on players.

Both domestic cup competitions have been retained alongside a full 38-game Premier League season, European football commitments and two international breaks with an extra game for European nations.

Guardiola has repeatedly argued that the gruelling winter schedule in England when other major leagues take a mid-season break comes at the expense of better quality matches for fans to enjoy.

And he believes that is only exacerbated in a season so far without fans inside the ground.

"The problem is today the players lose the joy of playing football. Before it was nice playing football once or twice a week with spectators, now it is in three days another one."

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder drew Klopp's ire after standing his ground in a manager's meeting last week over the issue of five substitutes.

Two previous votes have failed to garner the 14 votes needed from the 20 Premier League clubs to change the rules over fears from those with less resources that such a change only benefits the bigger clubs with deeper squads.

"I've got incredible respect for these top managers because they produce top results and win things," said Wilder, whose side sit bottom of the table with just one point from 10 games.

"But they're selfish, they look after their own clubs. They're going to be bothered about Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea, which I understand and respect. I would be the same, but I'm bothered about Sheffield United and it doesn't help us to have five subs."

Yet, the evidence across Europe shows the continent's biggest clubs are struggling to match their usual levels of dominance even with five subs.

Real Madrid and Barcelona find themselves well off the pace in La Liga having already lost three times each. Paris Saint-Germain have also lost three of their opening 12 matches in Ligue 1, while Juventus sit fourth in Serie A, behind Sassuolo, as they go for a 10th consecutive title.

Klopp may not be getting much sympathy from those fighting just to remain in the Premier League.

But the cost of cramming so much football into a shortened calendar threatens not only player welfare, but the enjoyment for fans watching a watered down product.

Liverpool's ever expanding injury list has prompted Jurgen Klopp to take on the football authorities and broadcasters over a gruelling schedule that he feels is doing little to protect the players.

- Joyless football - Despite losing a month of the season due to a late start to the campaign caused by the three-month coronavirus shutdown last season, barely any sacrifices have been made in English football to ease the strain on players. Before it was nice playing football once or twice a week with spectators, now it is in three days another one." Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder drew Klopp's ire after standing his ground in a manager's meeting last week over the issue of five substitutes. I would be the same, but I'm bothered about Sheffield United and it doesn't help us to have five subs." Yet, the evidence across Europe shows the continent's biggest clubs are struggling to match their usual levels of dominance even with five subs.

'Selfish' or 'protecting the players'? Klopp's complaints divide managers

Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani is set to be investigated by the Football Association over a social media posts which he subsequently deleted. The Uruguayan striker, in a reply to a message of congratulations after his brace against <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">Premier League</a> club Southampton, used the Spanish word ‘negrito’ (‘black’).

Manchester United said the term was used in an affectionate manner and has a different context in South America. The case is similar to what happened on social media between Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy after the former used a ‘black’ cartoon to tease Mendy. The two are best of buddies.

Manchester United said the veteran forward had been informed that such terms are taken as derogatory in Britain and he deleted the post.

The FA issues guidelines pre-season outlining racist and discriminatory language and behavior with offences on social media having a minimum three-match ban. This comes as FA’s strict measures to tackle racism and promote equality in the world of football.

Lionel Messi on Sunday paid an emotional tribute to Diego Maradona by revealing a Newell’s Old Boys jersey after scoring a mirror-image goal from Maradona’s days at the Argentine club. Messi spent his formative years at Newell’s Old Boys, a team Maradona represented towards the end of his career.

Messi looked emotional during the minute’s applause for Maradona, who passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest on Wednesday.

Barcelona looked inspired in their 4-0 win over Osasuna with Messi finding his name in the scoresheet after 73 minutes. After being found on the edge of the box by Francisco Trincao, Messi made himself space before unleashing a top-corner rocket.

Interestingly, this was his first open play goal this season as Messi took off his Barcelona jersey to reveal the same of Newell’s Old Boys with No. 10 on the back in tribute to Maradona. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner pointed to the sky while displaying the Newell’s kit as a show of emotion for Maradona. As per the rules, Messi was shown yellow card for taking off his Barcelona jersey.

Both Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann said they were not aware of Messi’s plans of a tribute on a moving day at Camp Nou, where Maradona played from 1982 to 1984.&nbsp;

"We lost Maradona, a global idol, we all miss him," Coutinho said. "We didn't know what Messi had prepared to honour Maradona," added Griezmann. "It was a beautiful surprise."

Australia run-machine Steve Smith scored his second successive century against India to give the hosts an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series but the top order batsman said he almost missed Sunday’s match due to a bout of vertigo.

Smith said a team doctor put him through his paces to see if he was fit to take the field in Sydney.

“I didn’t know I was playing...” Smith told a Cricket Australia website after collecting his second man-of-the-match award.

“I had a really bad dose of vertigo this morning and I was struggling until ... I came down early to have a hit and a bit of a run around.”

“The doctor, I think he performed six Epley manoeuvres on me ... and got the crystals out of my ears and I was struggling for a bit.”

There was no sign Smith was in any discomfort when he got to the crease with the 31-year-old reaching his 100 with 62 balls for the second straight match, the third fastest by an Australian behind Glenn Maxwell (51) and James Faulkner (57).

“Just pleased to be able to get out here and play another good innings and help the team,” Smith said.

Team mate Marnus Labuschagne, Smith’s collaborator in their 136-run partnership, called it one of the best one-day knocks he had ever seen.

“The way he batted yesterday was superb. It almost felt like he didn’t really give an opportunity, didn’t really take a risk,” Labuschagne said in a video call on Monday.

Smith could have reached the 100-mark taking one ball fewer but Labuschagne slipped at the striker’s end and they decided against a second run.

“The boys were asking me was I batting in my runners out there?” said Labuschagne, who scored 70. “That was a bit disappointing from my end.

“I’ll have to get rid of those shoes and get a brand new set ... for next game.”

Australia's Smith hits the heights after being laid low by vertigo

India’s bowling shortcomings have been laid bare in the first two one-day internationals against Australia and unless pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah finds his rhythm quickly the tourists will have their backs to the wall in next month’s test series.

Australia took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series with a 51-run victory in Sydney on Sunday.

And the hosts could deal a psychological blow for the four-match test series, which starts in Adelaide on Dec. 17, by securing a sweep in the third match on Wednesday.

Bumrah, the world’s second ranked ODI bowler, has endured a torrid time, bleeding 73-1 in the first match and 79-1 in the second.

“He means a lot to this team and we know the value of Jasprit,” vice-captain KL Rahul said after Sunday’s loss.

“It’s about time a champion player like him will come back, deliver and get wickets for us.”

Bumrah and Mohammed Shami’s failure to strike early has allowed Australia to get off to flying starts, which Steve Smith and his middle order colleagues have capitalised on.

Rahul was not surprised by the bowlers’ struggles on pitches where India also surpassed the 300-mark in both matches.

“You have to understand that in New Zealand and Australia, the wickets are so good to bat on. You will see top bowlers not getting wickets (occasionally). That’s quite acceptable,” he added.

With all-rounder Hardik Pandya yet to fully recover from a back injury, India played him as specialist batsman in the first ODI, even though it upset team balance.

Pandya bowled just four overs on Sunday but still picked up the wicket of Smith, who had smashed his second successive century of the series.

“If he (Pandya) starts bowling, then it is a load off the skipper and the team,” Rahul said.

“We need all-rounders for the team balance. He quite enjoyed it himself. He loves to get into contests and he is itching to go.”

Emirates Cricket Board launches ‘D20’ 20-over tournament

The entire incident surrounding Rohit Sharma and his fitness could have been handled better and pretty easily, feels former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir. There has been a bit of outrage from fans on social media after the way the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) handled Rohit’s situation during IPL 2020, which might even force him to sit out of the entire Australian tour due to hamstring injury.

While Rohit is nearing his 100 per cent fitness, the strict quarantine rules in Australia could see Rohit unable to make it to the Indian squad in time for the third Test. The next assessment of Rohit’s fitness is set to be done on December 11 in the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, India after which the board will take the call on his status for the last two Test of the series.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the BCCI has requested Cricket Australia to allow Rohit to train during the 14-day quarantine phase. Both the cricket board would require a clearance from the Australian government.

Rohit went on to play the last three matches of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 for Mumbai Indians despite not being at his 100 per cent fitness. However, the BCCI didn’t clear the scene as to why the Indian opener played despite not being fit. Even skipper Virat Kohli had questioned Rohit’s absence by saying they thought he would in flight to Australia.&nbsp;

“The Rohit Sharma situation could’ve been handled pretty easily since there wasn’t any need for too many people to get involved. Only the head physio, head coach and chairman of selectors were to be involved in the injury case. Had there been clear communication with the 3, it would’ve been enough. Of course, Virat Kohli was to get updated at every step through Ravi Shastri,” Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

Former cricketer VVS Laxman, too, believes that the BCCI could’ve handled the Rohit Sharma travel situation better given the series is being held amid a pandemic and strict quarantine protocols are in place.

Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman also joined Gambhir by saying the BCCI could have portrayed the Rohit Sharma’s travel situation better.

“Rohit Sharma is a very valuable player in Test matches. So I would’ve kept him in the chain, subject to fitness, would’ve definitely kept him in the picture. Secondly, you could’ve sent him with the team after that, keeping the quarantine rules in mind. Because there is a 14-day quarantine, in the soft quarantine since you have been in the bubble in UAE. Then you move to another bubble [in Australia]. In soft quarantine, you can practice, train with teammates, hit the gym.

But when you’re taking a commercial flight to Australia, you won’t be allowed to go out of your room and mingle and come in contact with people. So, I believe, the BCCI should’ve thought of this in hindsight,” Laxman said on the show.

Meanwhile, Australia bagged the series 2-0 after winning the first two ODIs in Sydney and will look to clean-sweep the series when they take on India at Canberra on Wednesday.

The newly-appointed president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Greg Barclay has promised to do his best to help India and Pakistan get on the same page when it comes to cricketing matters. However, Barclay remained realistic about the India-Pakistan cricket relation as he admitted that there are geopolitical issues at play.

After serving New Zealand Cricket (NZC) as the representative on board of the ICC, Barclay has taken over as chairman of the governing body. After closely witnessing differences between BCCI and PCB, he is willing to help the two boards get back in a healthy relationship in cricket matters.

"I would love nothing more than for India and Pakistan to be able to continue cricketing relations as they were previously. I am also enough of a realist to understand that there are geopolitical issues at play here. I think all we can do at the ICC is to continue to help and support in any way that we can to bring about outcomes that would see India and Pakistan in a position where they can play cricket regularly against each other and in their home territories.

"Beyond that, I do not think I have the mandate or ability to influence the outcomes more than that. That is really being done at a level way beyond where we would be operating," he explained.

"Rest assured that from the cricketing point of view, we would love to get those countries back together again on a regular basis. The ICC will do whatever it can to help facilitate and support an outcome that might see that happen," he said.

The Indian government has time and time again cleared their stance that action that hurt the interest of the country must stop before from Pakistani side before India resumes bilateral cricket with the neighbouring country. This has resulted in India and Pakistan facing each other in only ICC or ACC events.

French driver Romain Grosjean is set to sit out of next weekend’s Formula One race after miraculously escaping a high-speed crash at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Haas driver received burns to his hands.&nbsp;

Grosjean escaped the wreckage after colliding with Alpha Tauri’s Daniil Kyvyat on the first lap of Sunday’s race. The Haas car split in half and burst into flames after smashing through the barriers at 225 kph.

Haas said Grosjean’s treatment was “going well” and a discharge from hospital is expected on Tuesday.

Grosjean’s escape is being credited to the integrity of his car survival cell, his ‘halo’ device, which deflected the metal barriers away from his head and Grosjean’s own presence of mind as he remained calm to pull himself out along with skilled assistance of F1’s medical staff and track marshals.&nbsp;

Romain Grosjean ruled out of next F1 Grand Prix after fiery crash

Haas driver Romain Grojean on Sunday suffered a horrific crash, arguably one of the worst in the history of F1, which left the Frenchman receiving hospital treatment for burns as he defied all the odds to jump out of the blazing car following a crash in the Bahrain Grand Prix, which was won by the record-breaker Lewis Hamilton.&nbsp;

Grosjean lost control of his car after colliding with the front left wheel of Daniil Kvyat’s Alpha Tauri in what was an intense battle for position at Turn Three of the opening lap. Grosjean, travelling at 250 km/h, hammered into the steel guardrails which buckled immediately. Trapped in his cockpit, Grosjean flew under the steel barrier as his car burst into flames.

Analysts said that his car’s safety had saved his life as he careered through the barrier before F1’s medical team and marshals with fire extinguishers helped him escape. Grosjean is doing fine and received some minor burns for which he is being treated at a hospital.

Haas driver Romain Grojean on Sunday suffered a horrific crash, arguably one of the worst in the history of F1, which left the Frenchman receiving hospital treatment for burns as he defied all the odds to jump out of the blazing car following a crash in the Bahrain Grand Prix, which was won by the record-breaker Lewis Hamilton.

This is just ASTONISHING. Only just seen the helicopter footage of Romain Grosjean's crash today, and the actions of the marshal who saved his life. Thankfully see @RGrosjean TL for good news on relatively minor injuries. Incredible.pic.twitter.com/PoGNegedvv — Nick Harris (@sportingintel) November 29, 2020 × Analysts said that his car’s safety had saved his life as he careered through the barrier before F1’s medical team and marshals with fire extinguishers helped him escape. Grosjean is doing fine and received some minor burns for which he is being treated at a hospital. "Thank you very much for all the messages." "I wasn't for the halo some years ago but I think it's the greatest thing we brought to Formula 1 and without it I wouldn't be able to speak to you today," he added. Seven-time world champion Hamilton took the chequered flag ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and was quick to hail the safety standards in F1. "It was such a shocking image to see," said Hamilton, who like all of the drivers had a near 90-minute wait for the restart after the horrific opening lap crash. He used the pause to tweet on safety. Lewis Hamilton revealed on Thursday that he feels he has not yet processed the impact of his achievement in claiming a record-equalling seventh title to become F1’s most successful driver.

The 35-year-old Mercedes driver pulled level with Michael Schumacher when he secured his seventh title and his sixth in seven years with a momentous win at the Turkish Grand Prix two weeks ago.

He said, however, that he felt just as fired up to win the three season-ending races in the Middle East after ‘switching off’ and relaxing since that triumph. &nbsp;

“It's in my DNA,” he told reporters. “It's how I’m wired. I just love that challenge. We're coming into three races where the pressure is different, but the focus is too.

“It's about getting the best performances out of these weekends, but it's also how can we extract a little bit more?

“How can we learn more from these weekends, almost using them as test races, so that we can apply what we learn in these three particularly, and what we've learned this year, into next year's car?”

Hamilton said he had used the respite from constant pressure to allow him to re-charge for the final races.“I've generally just switched off,” he said.

“It's been really bad in the sense that I've got a lot of messages and I'm trying to catch up now.”

He also revealed that ‘the dream’ of racing for Ferrari “just wasn’t meant to be”.

Hamilton admitted he spoke to Ferrari president John Elkann last year, but never felt he was ready to leave Mercedes with whom he is expected to re-sign for the future before the end of this season.

“I was never close at all to leaving my team," he said. "I think it's only right that as drivers and as people when you're looking at your next phases and committing to periods of time in your life, you have to analyse what your options are -- and make sure you have done your due diligence and have the pros and cons.

“I don't necessarily know that our values are aligned and timing-wise, it just wasn't meant to be. I'm not bothered by it. I'm so proud and grateful for the journey that I have with Mercedes.”

Hamilton also pointed out that his points advantage ahead of team-mate Valtteri Bottas in this year’s title race had been exaggerated by the Finn’s bad luck.

He said Bottas had become stronger each year. "You've seen this year that while yes, the points gap now is where it is, if you look at a lot of the qualifying, it was the smallest of margins.

“So closing the gap in qualifying, he has done already, which has made it quite challenging… If you look at race weekends, it has been so close. Valtteri has been unfortunate this year with reliability issues so that makes the gap look bigger than it is.”

Hamilton added: “I think you've got to remember who he's driving up against – it's not easy being my team-mate, but he comes in weekend in, weekend out, with just the same mentality.

“He's never moaning or complaining that something is wrong with the car. It's always just - 'I've got to do a better job'…. Mentally, he’s one of the strongest drivers here.”

A hearse bearing the flag-draped coffin of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona rolled through the center of Buenos Aires Thursday as thousands of fans bade him a final farewell.

Amid blaring sirens and surrounded by motorcycle police outriders, the funeral cortege swept quickly through the streets around the presidential palace, where thousands of fans had filed past Maradona's coffin since early morning.&nbsp;

The lying in state, which had been extended to cope with the crowds surrounding the palace, was cut short by the family and officials after unruly fans took over an inner courtyard of the presidency.

Police then clashed with fans in the city center as the event threatened to descend into chaos.

The cortege avoided the main 9 de Julio avenue where many fans had gathered, and instead sped onto a highway out of the capital, following by dozens of photographers and cameramen on motorbikes.

India suffered a blow Friday with fast bowler Ishant Sharma ruled out of their Test series against Australia, as skipper Virat Kohli blasted a lack of clarity over the fate of star opener Rohit Sharma.

Ishant has been struggling with a side strain picked up during the Indian Premier League, and while he has recovered officials said he was not match fit.

"While he's building up his workload in order to achieve Test match fitness, Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy," the Indian cricket board said in a statement.

Senior batsman Rohit hurt his hamstring last month and will have another assessment on December 11, six days before the opening day-night Test in Adelaide.

Complicating matters was his father falling ill in Mumbai, which delayed Rohit's arrival at India's National Cricket Academy to begin his rehab.

Kohli said the way the matter had been handled was "very confusing" and that both players should be in Australia to complete their recoveries.

"It definitely would have increased the chances of both of them playing Test matches," he said in video comments from his hotel room in Sydney ahead of the opening one-dayer against Australia on Friday.

Kohli, who has been undergoing a mandatory 14-day quarantine along with the rest of the India squad, said he was expecting Rohit to be on the plane to Australia with everyone else.

"We had no information whatsoever on the reason why he's not travelling with us," said the skipper, who will return home after the opening Test for the birth of his first child.

"And after that, the only other information officially we've received by mail is that he's in the NCA and he's been assessed and he'll be further assessed on December 11.

"So from the time that the selection meeting happened to the IPL finishing and now when this email came about his assessment in the NCA, there's been no information.

"There's been a lack of clarity and we've been playing the waiting game on this issue for a while now which is not ideal at all. So it's been very confusing and there's been a lot of uncertainty and a lack of clarity around the situation."

India play four Tests against Australia in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane following their six-match limited overs series.

Ishant Sharma out of Australia series as Kohli blasts 'confusing' messages

Napoli's players honoured club legend Diego Maradona on Thursday by stepping out onto the pitch wearing his number 10 jersey before their 2-0 Europa League win over Rijeka.

"Diego is a legend and will never die," said Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso.

"Since yesterday you could see that the city breathed a different atmosphere.

"We hope to dedicate something important to him and win a trophy.

"In this city we have talked about it for too many years."

Rijeka did not spoil the tribute with Napoli beating their modest rivals thanks to an own-goal from the visitor's Italian left-back Armando Anastasio before the break.

The Naples-born player took a touch to a Matteo Politano goal-bound effort, and was credited with the goal.&nbsp;

Hirving Lozano sealed victory with quarter of an hour to go, firing in a Lorenzo Insigne cross.

Gattuso's side ended their two-match losing streak at their home stadium to take top place in Group F with Rijeka bottom without a win in four games.

"I have many good memories," recalled Gattuso.

"I had the opportunity to talk many times with Diego, to have dinner several times with him.&nbsp;

"He has done so many extraordinary things. He made mistakes in his private life, but for what he did he will remain always alive.&nbsp;

"Diego came from another planet and he will live forever like all legends.

"I would have liked to tackle him as a player," added former Italy World Cup winner Gattuso.

Captain Insigne had earlier led the tributes alongside fans gathered outside the San Paolo Stadium before the game, Napoli's first since Maradona's death at the age of 60 on Wednesday.

All wearing black armbands, the team also wore Maradona's iconic jersey during the team presentation and minute's silence, under a photo projected on a large screen of the man who led Napoli to league titles in 1987 and 1990 and the UEFA Cup in 1989.

Throughout the day, supporters thronged in front of the San Paolo stadium, which could soon be renamed in honour of Maradona.&nbsp;

"I believe it is right to baptise the San Paolo with your name to still have you with us," wrote club president Aurelio de Laurentiis on the club's website.

A plaque was put up on the gates of the stadium which read "Diego Armando Maradona Stadium" and bore the face of the fans' Argentine hero.

Blue-white scarves, flowers, photos of Maradona and shirts stamped with number 10 were left in memory of the player whose seven seasons between 1984-1991 left an indelible mark on Neapolitans.

An hour before kick-off, there were still several hundred fans singing in front of the stadium.

Other Neapolitans, even more numerous, gathered in Piazza del Plebiscito in the centre of Naples.&nbsp;

Shortly before the match, Insigne and former Napoli storekeeper, Tommaso Starace, left the stadium to join the tributes by laying a wreath at the foot of the gates.

"Maradona means a lot, not just to me but to all Neapolitans. He has always stood up for us, he has always held us in his heart and we must do the same," said Insigne.

A few hundred fans remained outside the stadium during the game but most left before kick-off.

The Europa League match took place behind closed doors, like all matches in Italy because of the coronavirus pandemic.

'Diego will never die:' Napoli honour Maradona with Europa League win

Jose Mourinho takes his table-topping Tottenham side to former club Chelsea this weekend determined to prove he is back where he belongs at the top of the Premier League.

Four straight wins have taken Spurs to 20 points after nine games, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference, but Frank Lampard's Chelsea are just two points behind them.

Champions Liverpool travel to Brighton, while goal-shy Manchester City host Burnley in the unaccustomed position of 13th in the table and Arsenal seek&nbsp;a win to lift them out of their slump.

AFP Sport looks at some of the main talking points ahead of the weekend action in the Premier League.

<h2>Mourinho has point to prove</h2>

Spurs boss Mourinho has a point to prove against Lampard, with whom he won two Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho and the former Chelsea midfielder-turned-manager have met four times in different dugouts.

Lampard gave Mourinho a bloody nose when his Derby side dumped Manchester United, then managed by the Mourinho, out of the League Cup on penalties in 2018.

After returning to Chelsea as manager, Lampard twice outwitted his former boss, by now in charge at Tottenham, in the Premier League last season.

The 57-year-old veteran will be hoping this season's League Cup win against Chelsea on penalties has turned the tide. He has never lost three consecutive league matches against the same manager or club before.

Mourinho was keen to play down title talk after last week's impressive 2-0 win at home to Manchester City, which took them top.

"People cannot expect us to come here and after one season we are fighting for the title," he told the BBC.&nbsp;

"We are not fighting for the title, we are just fighting to win every match. But we are going to lose matches, we are going to draw matches."

But, like it or not, Spurs&nbsp;are in the title mix and will have to get used to the pressure, which will be ramped up on Sunday.

<h2>Can Arteta stop the rot?</h2>

Arsenal's indifferent start to the season has left them languishing 12th in the Premier League table, with just four points from their past five matches.&nbsp;

Mikel Arteta, whose side host Wolves on Sunday, remains optimistic despite his side's poor run and struggles in front of goal -- Arsenal have now not scored from open play in five Premier League games.

"When I see the young talents we have got here and the future that we can produce for them, it's things that get me really excited," he said.

"We know that we are going to go through difficult periods because you don't change issues that have been going on for years in a small amount of time."

Fans have been patient so far with their manager, who arrived late last year, but will start to get edgy unless they see an upturn in results soon.

<h2>City search for goals</h2>

Manchester City, who host Burnley on Saturday, have not scored more than once in a Premier League match since September.

It was the same old story last weekend. City had 22 shots in their 2-0 defeat against Tottenham, who mustered just four shots, with two on target.

The club's record goalscorer, Sergio Aguero, had a brief runout in Wednesday's 1-0 win at Olympiakos as he makes his way back to fitness following a hamstring injury.

City boss Guardiola said this week he was being cautious with the Argentine striker.

"We have many, many games to play this season and we'll need him," he said. "What we want is him to recover in his best condition."

But it is a difficult balancing act for the manager, whose side are already eight points behind Spurs and Liverpool.

Mourinho and Lampard brace for Premier League summit meeting

Top doctors have warned elite runners are taking a major health risk by competing in Sunday's New Delhi half-marathon in the midst of a major coronavirus outbreak and soaring air pollution.

Women's marathon world record-holder Brigid Kosgei from Kenya and Ethiopia's two-time men's winner Andamlak Belihu are among the 49 elite athletes running the 21-kilometre (13.1 mile) race, while thousands of amateurs are taking part virtually.

Organisers say the "highest level of safety-standards, with bio-secure zones" have been laid on for the race starting at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

But with New Delhi recording more than 500,000 virus cases, and air quality in the world's most polluted capital hovering between 'unhealthy' and 'hazardous', health experts said the athletes should think twice.

"It will be suicidal for runners to run the race this time. We have such high levels of pollution, we have the risk of coronavirus," Arvind Kumar, founder trustee of the Lung Care Foundation, told AFP.

"With the presence of this twin threat if people are still running despite knowing everything, well, I have no words to express my anguish."

"Whether you are an international elite runner or you are a small boy from a village, the damaging potential of a damaging agent remains the same," said the doctor.

Randeep Guleria, director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the country's top research body, told AFP that "in an ideal situation" the race should not be run.

"Because of high levels of air pollution, exercising outside in this weather sometimes can lead to aggravation of underlying lung problems," he said.

"Even if you are an elite runner the air pollution would still affect your lung."

Normally thousands of amateurs would also take part, but because of the coronavirus they have been told to run their chosen route between Wednesday and Sunday and chart their time on an app.

Delhi has been hit by a winter pollution crisis each year for the past decade when crop-stubble burning from nearby states, cold temperatures and car and industrial pollution produce a toxic mix.

This year, the Indian capital is also a major concern in the battle against the coronavirus. India is the world's second worst-hit country behind the United States, with about 9.3 million cases.

The city is considering imposing a night-time curfew because of the rising number of cases, according to media reports.

Kosgei, who is visiting India for the first time, acknowledged her concerns about travelling for the race.

"We have definitely been affected by Covid-19. I had to convince my parents and family back home to allow me to visit Delhi for the half-marathon," she said.

"The virus has affected most of the sporting events. But it is important for us to take care of ourselves."

As in other countries, nearly all sport in India has been cancelled.&nbsp;

After repeated delays, the Indian Premier League cricket went ahead in the United Arab Emirates and the Indian Super League football is being held in a bio-secure "bubble" in Goa.

Top doctors have warned elite runners are taking a major health risk by competing in Sunday's New Delhi half-marathon in the midst of a major coronavirus outbreak and soaring air pollution.

Diego Maradona was most human among all the gods: Martin Via to WION

The world of football was dealt a huge blow on Wednesday with the news of Diego Maradona’s passing at the age of 60. In Spain, there was particular sadness as so many of those currently at the heart of Spanish football knew the Argentine or were touched by him from his time in LaLiga.

It was in LaLiga that Maradona took his first steps in European football, joining Barcelona for a then-world-record fee of $7.6million after starring in his home country for Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors. Joan Gaspart, who was the vice-president at Barcelona at the time, later revealed in interviews that the Barça directors who went to Argentina to work on the signing had to travel in a tank because the Argentine authorities feared for their safety.

Prizing Maradona away from his loyal fans in Buenos Aires was tough, but it was worth it. Barcelona had acquired an elite player. Injury and illness meant Maradona didn’t play as many games for the&nbsp;Blaugrana&nbsp;as the club had hoped, but when he did take to the pitch of Europe’s biggest stadium it was quite a spectacle.

Even at the Bernabéu, the home of Barcelona’s eternal rivals Real Madrid, Maradona impressed. In one match, he was even applauded by the fans of the capital city side, with white handkerchiefs waved respectfully in the air after Maradona performed a graceful sidestep right next to the goal line to leave right-back Juan José flying into the post as the No.10 rolled the ball into the net.

“I remember our early training sessions with him, where the rest of the team were so amazed that they just stood and watched him,” Lobo Carrasco, one of the other Barcelona squad members at that time, recalled when looking back to that era.

After leaving Barcelona to embark on his iconic adventure with Napoli in 1984, Maradona returned to Spain in 1992. This time he signed with Sevilla FC and reunited with Carlos Bilardo, who’d been the coach as Argentina won the 1986 World Cup in Mexico with Maradona as the star of the show.

It was only one season, but that 1992/93 campaign was one that all&nbsp;Sevillistas&nbsp;from that time still remember. In his first home game at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, Maradona scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Real Zaragoza. Who else?

It wasn’t peak Maradona at Sevilla and he’d been out of the game for the year before his arrival, but his mere presence made an impact across the club. Fans would arrive at the stadium early just to watch his famous warm-ups, while the forward made an impact on the young players in that squad, players such as Diego Simeone or current Sevilla Sporting Director Monchi. “He helped me in a spectacular way at Sevilla,” Simeone remembered. Monchi, meanwhile, has often told a story that sums up Maradona’s generosity: “I was walking with Maradona one day and he saw that I had a Rolex, which I admitted to him was a fake one. Then, after training one day, he told me to wait behind and he gifted me a Cartier so that I’d never have to wear a fake watch again.”

Maradona intended to stay at Sevilla for some time, bringing several of his favourite cars to the city. But he departed at the end of the 1992/93 season, returning to Argentina.

It wasn’t only at Barcelona and Sevilla that Maradona left an impact in Spain, though. He also impressed fans in Barcelona and Alicante, the cities where Argentina played during the 1982 World Cup. And, in 1987, Maradona even featured for Granada in a friendly match against Swedish side Malmö, doing so alongside his brothers Hugo and Lalo, who had just signed for the Andalusian club, at the old Estadio de Los Cármenes. That game remains to this day the only game in which the three brothers lined up on the same side.

Despite spending just a few years of his legendary career in Spain, Maradona made a huge impact, netting 27 goals in 62 games and winning the Copa del Rey, the Copa de la Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. His legacy will never be forgotten in Barcelona, Seville… or anywhere.

New Zealand on Friday defeated the West Indies by five wickets in a rain-affected first T20I at the Auckland’s Eden Park to kickstart the three-match T20I series with a thumping win.

Batting first, the West Indies posted a competitive total of 180/7 in 16 overs following an onslaught by Kieron Pollard, who went on to score an unbeaten 75 off just 37 balls.&nbsp;

Opener Andre Fletcher and Brandon King gave away an electric start to the Men in Maroon after which they hit a roadblock where the likes of Shimron Hetmyer (0), Nicholas Pooran (1) and Rovman Powell (0) were sent back to the hut in a flash. Courtesy Pollard and blistering knock by Fabian Allen, West Indies went on to post 180/7 in 16 overs in what was a rain-hit match in Auckland.

Chasing the highly-competitive score, New Zealand lost openers Martin Guptill and Tim Seifert for cheap before Devon Conway made a mark straightaway with a 29-ball 41. Glenn Phillips smashed a 7-ball 22. But it was Jimmy Neesham and Mitchell Santner that New Zealand crossed the winning line.&nbsp;

Neesham hammered an unbeaten 24-ball 48 while Santner scored 31 off 18.&nbsp;

New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson was named the Man of the Match for his career-best haul of 5-21.&nbsp;

Tim Southee | New Zealand captain: It was a very strange game but nice to come out on the winning side. Kieron batted exceptionally well. The fight that Lockie showed was brilliant and we needed something special like that to stop the West Indies after the start they got. We were a little bit off the ball but it's nice to be on the winning side. Devon played exceptionally well and kick-started the innings. There's plenty of good stuff to come from him (Kyle Jameison). It's been a long time coming and good to be back playing in front of the home crowd.
