Fast-rising star Cameron Green plundered a century but the pair tipped to open for Australia in the first Test against India both failed in a warm-up against the tourists Monday.

All-rounder Green has been in sizzling form with the bat and his unbeaten 114 against a quality India A attack featuring Ravi Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav left selectors with plenty to ponder.

Coach Justin Langer has previously suggested Matthew Wade and Travis Head will keep their spots at No.6 and No.5 respectively for the opening Test which begins on December 17 in Adelaide.

But 21-year-old Green, recently described by Greg Chappell as the best he had seen since Ricky Ponting, keeps knocking on the door, steering Australia A to 286 for eight on day two of the three-day game.

India declared their first innings on 247 for nine, with Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane adding another nine runs to his overnight 108.

In contrast, fellow young prospect Will Pucovski and veteran Joe Burns, in line to form Australia's top order in Adelaide after David Warner suffered a groin strain, both flopped.

The injury has transformed the pair from rivals competing for a place alongside Warner into likely opening partners, but neither impressed against the new ball in Sydney.

Pucovski made one from 23 balls before mis-hitting straight to fielder Shubman Gill, while Burns departed on four after nicking to wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha.

Fast bowler Umesh Yadav claimed both wickets to press for inclusion in India's pace attack for the four-Test series.

The lack of chemistry between them will be a concern for Australia's selectors but options are limited without Warner.

Burns, 30, an experienced Test batsman who formed a formidable partnership with Warner last year, has struggled in domestic cricket recently, scoring just 57 runs in five Sheffield Shield innings.

Pucovski has been prolific domestically, snaring back-to-back double centuries for Victoria but is unproven at Test level.

Barring a late inclusion for former opener Marcus Harris, who made 35 Monday coming in at first drop, the other option to open the batting in the Test squad is Marnus Labuschagne.

The footballing world was left shocked to see Millwall supporters boo players taking a knee before their match to Derby County on Saturday. However, Millwall’s official fan club has said that boos were not motivated by racism.

Millwall fans were heavily slammed by the Football Association (FA), Kick it Out – a campaign to free the English game of racism – and many others including former players, pundits and fans at Saturday’s Championship match.

Millwall said they were “dismayed and saddened” by the boos of the fans while adding that the players would continue to take a knee before the matches in a bid “to support the drive for change, not just in football but in society generally”.

Millwall Supporters’ Club, in a statement on Sunday, said the boos were aimed at the ‘Black Lives Matter’ (BLM) organisation, which it said held “extreme political views”.

"We fervently believe that the motives of those behind the booing were not racist," the Supporters' club said in a statement here.

“However, at a time of heightened awareness and with the country watching, the choice of those individuals was always going to damage their club and be perceived by the media as racist.

Players in England, including the ones participating in the Premier League, have been taking a knee before matches since June in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement which spread worldwide following the death of George Floyd under police custody in Minneapolis in May.

The Premier League and Football League have since tied the kneeling gesture to their anti-racism campaigns, including ‘No Room for Racism’.&nbsp;

“These same fans have never booed the Kick It Out campaigns on our pitch or the huge work of the Millwall Community Trust and its many anti-racism campaigns,” added the supporters’ club.

However, it backed calls for steps to deal with racism and said “the action needed was not to boo the gesture.”

Not just that, fans also booed the kneeling gesture at Colchester United’s League Two (fourth-tier) match at home to Grimsby Town on Saturday with the club’s owner and chairman Robbie Cowling saying that fans opposing the anti-racism movement were not welcome at matches.&nbsp;

"Maybe those that booed on Saturday might now understand what this gesture means to our club and will at the very least remain silent during future games whilst the players continue to take the knee before each kick-off," he wrote in a statement here on the club's website.

“Alternatively, they should just stay away from our club because anyone that still wants to boo now that I have explained the purpose and importance of the taking of the knee is not welcome at our club.”

Jehan Daruvala created history when he became the first Indian to win a Formula 2 race during the Sakhir Grand Prix on Sunday.

A thrilling battle against F2 champion Mick Schumacher and later Daniel Ticktum saw the 22-year-old Indian emerge on top in the support race of the season-ending Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Ticktum squeezed Daruvala on the inside, which allowed Schumacher to go around the outside of both of them. Eventually, Ticktum emerged in the lead, followed by Schumacher and Daruvala in third. A few corners later, Daruvala made a good move to pass Schumacher and get into second.

A few laps later, Schumacher passed Daruvala, to relegate him to third. A thrilling battle ensued and eventually the Indian got past Schumacher once again, to reclaim his second spot.

Daruvala then reeled off a series of quick laps to catch the race leader. However, he was unable to overtake him. Daruvala's persistence forced the race leader to start making mistakes, but he found it tough to get past Ticktum. Eventually, with less than 10 laps to go, Daruvala made another fantastic move to get past Ticktum and grab the lead.

Thereafter, he drove well to slowly start opening up a gap and finally took the chequered flag to win his maiden FIA Formula 2 race.

His Japanese teammate Yuki Tsunoda - who had won the feature race on Saturday -- was second, over 3.5 seconds behind Daruvala, while Ticktum was third.

"Motorsport is pretty big in India. We obviously have a lot of people, so I have a big fan base back home, and my goal at the end of the day is to do myself and my country proud. (I have) to prove to people from back home that even though we don't have the same facilities and stuff that guys have in Europe, as long as you can work hard you can fight right at the sharp end of the grid," Daruvala said after the race.

After many disruptions and setbacks, England’s white-ball tour of South Africa has been cancelled after COVID-19 outbreak in both the squads. Only three T20I matches were completed as scheduled, however, the ODI series, which should have started on Friday as per the original scheduled, suffered deferment thrice in four days due to the positive COVID-19 cases in both the squads and at their hotel in Cape Town.<o:p></o:p>

The cancellation comes as a massive blow to Cricket South Africa’s hopes of reviving cricket after the resumption of sports post-COVID-19 lockdown. Major teams like Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are due to tour South Africa in coming weeks but the latest development in England’s tour could force the three teams to reconsider their decision in the wake of the problems England encountered. <o:p></o:p>

As many as three South African players contracted the coronavirus after England arrived on November 17. Since then, two England players have returned COVID-19 positive along with two workers at the shared hotel in Cape Town.

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who had pulled his hamstring before suffering a concussion during India’s first T20I match against Australia, was ruled out of the entire three-match T20I series. While Indian fans hoped that the flamboyant southpaw would return in time for the pink-ball Test against Australia, starting December 17, it is being reported that Jadeja is likely to miss the first Test at the Adelaide.<o:p></o:p>

Jadeja, concussed, was replaced by Yuzvendra Chahal in the playing XI in the first T20I match against Australia as the leg-spinner went on to spin a web around the Aussie batters to help India take a crucial win. However, if Jadeja goes on to miss the first Test then it could come as a huge blow to the Indian team who rely on Jadeja’s batting prowess down the order.

With India missing Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma, Jadeja’s absence is likely to hit the visitors hard while making the Australian team even more favourites to win the four-match Test series.

India will also miss Kohli’s services after the first Test with the Indian skipper set to leave for India to be with his wife Anushka Sharma for the birth of their first child. Ajinkya Rahane, who scored an unbeaten century in the tour match against Australia A, will lead the Indian side in the last three Tests.

Floyd Mayweather to take on YouTuber Logan Paul in exhibition bout

“Where do you want me to start?” Washington Wizards’ new superstar acquisition Russell Westbrook said on Saturday speaking to the media for the first time since being traded from Houston Rockets. Westbrook clarified he is misunderstood. “Because a lot of times, the things that are made up, people don’t actually know me to be able to say anything about me or what I am about or what I believe in. ... Obviously, I am not the easiest guy to understand, whatever, watch play, whatever people may think.”

A nine-time All Star, Westbrook had a rather unusual feather in his hat, becoming first NBA MVP to be traded in consecutive offseasons.

Westbrook explained that the player on court and the persona off court are two different people. “When I am on the floor, I don’t have any friends, I am not trying to be friendly, I’m trying to bust somebody’s ass. I ain’t got time to try to shake hands and do all that. I don’t have time for it, and I am never changing that,” the explosive point guard said it loud and clear.

At the back of three consecutive triple-double seasons at the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook was traded to join forces with James Harden for the 2019-20 season. And in the current offseason found himself a new team in the Wizards. Much like any other seasoned pro, the 32-year old admitted that these moves affect his family more than him. “Not as much for me but for my wife and my family now. She has to move my kids, find schools, place to stay so that’s the most difficult part because I know the stress it puts on my family,” said Westbrook.

Wizards, who went 25-47 last season, expect Westbrook to run with their franchise cornerstone Bradley Beal and push the team in playoffs contention, but Westbrook’s idea of legacy is different.

“Legacy for me is based on how many people I impact and inspire along my journey,” Westbrook said. “It’s important that somebody that has the power, the impact, the ability, the impact, the outreach to be able to put their foot down and make a stand,” Westbrook added.

Kane Williamson joins Virat Kohli at number 2 spot in ICC Test Player Rankings

Liverpool turned on the style for their returning fans on Sunday, beating Wolves 4-0 to join Tottenham at the top of the Premier League after another episode of the Son Heung-min and Harry Kane show.

Jurgen Klopp's men had not had the chance to play in front of their supporters since they ended their 30-year wait to be crowned English champions but made up for lost time.

"You'll Never Walk Alone" rang out around Anfield as 2,000 home fans -- the maximum allowed under coronavirus rules -- witnessed strikes from Mohamed Salah, Georginio Wijnaldum, Joel Matip and an own goal.

Earlier, Jose Mourinho's Spurs beat faltering Arsenal 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Leicester, who ended the day in fourth spot, struck late to beat rock-bottom Sheffield United 2-1.

Liverpool and Wolves both looked dangerous on the counter-attack in the early stages of the late game at Anfield, with the home side taking the lead when Salah capitalised on an error by Wolves captain Conor Coady.

Wijnaldum made it 2-0 with a wonderful curled finish shortly before the hour mark and Matip put the game beyond Wolves with a close-range header before the late own goal from Nelson Semedo.

Liverpool have now won 31 of their past 32 home league games, scoring 93 goals while conceding just 25.

"The game, the atmosphere, it was so nice I had goosebumps," an emotional Klopp told the BBC. "They started 'You'll Never Walk Alone' -- really nice. I never knew it could feel that good.

"This started in February and we were waiting to get normality back. Normality is good -- I don't think we appreciated it as much. It was very, very touching."

<h2>- Deadly duo -</h2>

The Spurs-Arsenal match was dominated by Son and Kane, who have shredded defences this season.

Tottenham took the lead in the north London derby in the 13th minute with a wonder goal from the South Korean, who curled a brilliant long-range effort into the top corner after being set free down the left by Kane.

The home side, also playing in front of fans, doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time as they took apart their local rivals on the break.

Giovani Lo Celso played in Son, who returned the earlier favour to tee up Kane to smash in from close range.

Son and Kane have now combined for 31 Premier League goals, the second most of any pair after Chelsea's Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard (36).

Tottenham, who have not lost a league match since the opening day of the season, now have 24 points after 11 matches, level with Liverpool and two clear of Chelsea.

Mourinho praised his star forwards for their all-round contribution.

"Harry Kane clearing balls in the box, Sonny for the first 60 minutes as a winger and then a second striker -- it is not just about scoring goals and being world-class players," he told Sky Sports. "It is about being great guys and doing your best for the team.

"We grew up. I can imagine lots of people can imagine three matches in a row -- against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal -- would be a moment for us to drop points and go back to 'normality' but we didn't go back to 'normality', we are there."

Arsenal, by contrast, are now 15th in the Premier League following their sixth defeat of the season, and struggling badly for goals.

Leicester ended a four-game winless run in all competitions at an empty Bramall Lane to push the Blades closer to a return to the Championship.

Clubs in tier-three areas of England, with tougher coronavirus restrictions, still have to play behind closed doors, while tier-two zones such as London and Liverpool can have crowds of up to 2,000.

Jamie Vardy kept his cool when through one-on-one and beat Aaron Ramsdale with a confident right-foot finish in the 90th minute.

Ayoze Perez had put Brendan Rodgers's men in front before Oli McBurnie headed an equaliser for Sheffield United, who now have just one point from 11 games.

In the first match of the day, Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke both scored twice as Crystal Palace made West Brom pay for Matheus Pereira's first-half red card in a 5-1 rout at the Hawthorns.

Liverpool spark Anfield party to join Spurs at top of Premier League

Lionel Messi's rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo has enthralled football for the better part of a decade, and the pair will duel for potentially the final time when Barcelona host Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The two titans of the modern game, who split ownership of the Ballon d'Or between 2008-2017, were the talismans of Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid until Ronaldo left the Spanish capital for Juventus in 2018.

After the Portuguese forward arrived from Manchester United in 2009, El Clasico became synonymous with his rivalry with Barcelona captain Messi.

Since Ronaldo's departure, the fixture has lost some of its glamour, leaving the football world eager for the pair to be pitted against each other again.

Those hopes were frustrated earlier in the group phase, with Ronaldo missing Barcelona's 2-0 win in Turin after testing positive for Covid-19. Messi scored with a penalty. They are poised to meet again this week.

Both sides have already qualified for the last 16 from Group G but Juventus can overtake Barcelona if they win at Camp Nou by three goals or more, or by any two-goal margin other than 2-0.

Ronaldo and Messi are in the latter phases of their careers, at 35 and 33 respectively, but both retain their elite status.

Messi has six Ballons d'Or to his name and is the current holder, while Ronaldo finished third in the 2019 awards, boasting five.

<h2>- Ronaldo thriving -</h2>

He is thriving in Italy, having quickly become key for Juventus, who presented him with a commemorative shirt on Saturday to recognise his 750th career goal, ahead of a 2-1 win over neighbours Torino.

"Ronaldo is the top player for mentality," his former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri told The Times.

"Ronaldo has a different head to everyone. He's won five Ballons d'Or, five Champions Leagues and one European Championship for Portugal, and that is so difficult, and it's always him making the difference. Every year he has a new objective."

Ronaldo netted 21 goals in his debut season for Allegri to take Juventus to the title, followed by 31 last season under Maurizio Sarri as they lifted the Scudetto for the 36th time.

With eight goals in six appearances this season for Andrea Pirlo, Ronaldo is showing no signs of slowing down. By contrast, Messi is struggling in Spain.

The Barcelona forward tried to escape this summer but his club refused to let him leave and Messi appears an uncomfortable fit in new coach Ronald Koeman's tactical plans, and far from his decisive best.

Barcelona are enduring their worst start to a league season for 33 years and Messi's inconsistency is part of the problem, with four goals in 10 appearances and two of those from the penalty spot.

Carles Tusquets, president of the managing board in charge before club elections in January, said he would have sold Messi in the summer, economically speaking.

"Financially, him leaving would been good for the club," Tusquets told Catalunya Radio. "We'd be better off because we said that his salary is the highest in the world. Nothing could be truer."

However, the Argentina forward, who failed to find the net in a dismal 2-1 defeat by promoted side Cadiz on Saturday, remains, and the chance to joust with his old foe Ronaldo may rouse him.

While Ronaldo was in Spain he and Messi drove each other to greater and greater heights, in what was football's greatest rivalry between individuals. On Tuesday, they cross swords once again, perhaps as a last encore.

Ronaldo set to renew stellar rivalry in Champions League

For the first time in 270 days, fans were back inside a Premier League ground as Arsenal welcomed 2,000 supporters into the Emirates for Thursday's routine 4-1 Europa League win over Rapid Vienna.

The sparse crowd in a 60,000 capacity stadium were well distanced between two stands and in high spirits despite the Gunners' poor form of late in the English top-flight.

"I'm delighted to have fans back they make a huge difference," said Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta.

"We had 2,000 but they were loud and they were supportive to the team so thanks to them for coming and making the effort."

Outside the ground before kick-off fans held up a banner reading: "Home at last, Thank you NHS" in tribute to those working on the front line battling coronavirus in the health service.

Arsenal's last home match with a crowd was back in March prior to a three-month stoppage of the sport due to the pandemic.&nbsp;

Since returning in June, English top-flight football has been played behind closed doors with Arsenal fans missing out on seeing their side win the FA Cup and Community Shield at Wembley.

"It's been a long nine months since the last game," said Javed Singh. "I'm excited, it's a bit of a dead rubber game but good to be back in the stadium. Just great to see a game in person."

Despite Arsenal having already booked their place in the Europa League knockout stages, demand from fans to be one of the lucky few back through the gates crashed the club website on Saturday morning.

"It's one of those games you will look back on that we were the first ones in the stadium," said Dan Anderson, who attended the game with his brother as normal.

"It's just getting back to normal. You work hard all week and to have that reward to be able to go to a game at the weekend or at night is what you want."

However, it was not a return to normality for everyone. Pubs that would typically be crammed with fans on matchday around the stadium remained shut with&nbsp;London still under tier two restrictions meaning alcohol cannot be served without food.

Restrictions remain even tighter in other parts of England in Tier three such as Manchester and Birmingham where fans remain shut out.

"Football is all about you, the fans - we have missed you and we are so happy to be welcoming you back," said Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a video played before kick-off.

<h2>- Gunnersauras saved from extinction -</h2>

Club mascot Gunnersaurus was also back after the controversy that saw the club employee, Jerry Quy, who played the role since 1993, let go amid cost-cutting measures before Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil stepped in to cover his salary.

Playing an entire season without crowds would cost Premier League clubs an estimated £700 million ($941 million) and the need to make the most of the fans' return was evident with Arsenal's "Armoury" club shop reopened.

The atmosphere inspired a much-changed side on the field as Arteta looked ahead of Sunday's North London derby against Premier League leaders Tottenham.

Spurs were the target of the first chants once the action got underway, showing some things never change no matter the circumstances.

There was soon something to cheer as Alexandre Lacazette smashed in a stunning long-range strike top open the scoring on 10 minutes and ran to celebrate in front of the fans.

"It's just great to have that sound back and have our 12th man back," said Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Pablo Mari quickly headed home a second on his first appearance since March.

Eddie Nketiah added a third before half-time before Kohya Kitagawa's consolation for the Austrians drew pantomime boos from the crowd.

Substitute Emile Smith Rowe rounded off the scoring on a night that will be best remembered for what happened off the field.

Arsenal win on fans' return to top level football in England

The inaugural Autumn Nations Cup finishes with England facing fellow pool winners France in a Twickenham final on Sunday in front of 2,000 spectators -- the first time since the coronavirus pandemic that fans have been let into the ground.

Below AFP Sport looks at some of the key issues heading into the tournament's concluding play-off matches:

<h2>'Le Crunch' loses its bite?</h2>

A final between Six Nations champions England and France, the only team to beat them this year, should be a cause for huge excitement yet it's generating fears of a mismatch.

Following a threat of legal action by the French Top 14 clubs, unhappy at the lack of consultation over the revised calendar created in response to the pandemic, it was agreed their France stars could feature on three match sheets during the six Tests that now constitute les Bleus' end-of-year schedule.

France started the international window with a warm-up win over Wales, a week before the Covid-interrupted Six Nations resumed.

Of the matchday 23 that day, only fly-half Matthieu Jalibert, an unused replacement, survives among a talented but youthful 31-man squad for the game at Twickenham.

Nevertheless, England coach Eddie Jones, who saw his side beaten 24-17 by France in Paris in February in their first match since their World Cup final loss to South Africa, said: "The French have always got a tough forward pack so we are going to have beat them up, up front.

"They were too good for us on that day (in February)."

Meanwhile, France coach Fabien Galthie said of an experienced England that they were "possibly the best team in the world right now because South Africa aren't playing".

The last time, however, there were so many fears for France's chances at Twickenham was a 1999 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand where, with Christophe Dominici -- who died aged 48 last week -- scoring one of their tries, they overturned a 14-point deficit to beat the All Blacks 43-31.

<h2>Ireland-Scotland intrigue</h2>

Saturday sees old rivals Ireland and Scotland contesting the third place play-off in Dublin, with the Irish looking for a morale-boosting win after several lacklustre displays since Andy Farrell succeeded Joe Schmidt as head coach following the World Cup.

Farrell has recalled Johnny Sexton after the fly-half missed an 18-7 defeat by England and last week's scrappy 23-10 win over Georgia with a hamstring strain.

"Johnny coming back is a big boost for the lads," said Farrell.

An improving Scotland will be bidding for a first win on Irish soil in 10 years after losing 19-1 in Dublin during the Six Nations.

<h2>Wales worries</h2>

Wales head into their match with Italy having lost seven of their nine Tests under coach Wayne Pivac and even a thumping win is unlikely to ease the pressure on the New Zealander.

George North, normally a wing, is in midfield after his last Wales start in the centres came during a 42-0 thrashing of Italy in February.

Wales' problems at the scrum are reflected in Pivac's decision to select a brand new front row following a 24-13 defeat by England.

"From the outset we wanted this campaign to be about giving players opportunity and we have done that," said Pivac.

Australia-born wing 'Monty' Ioane, the nephew of former Wallaby Digby Ioane, makes his Test debut for Italy, with Wales-born Stephen Varney their scrum-half.

<h2>Fiji feature at last</h2>

Fiji make a long-awaited tournament debut after coronavirus -- the reason for the tournament's existence after major southern hemisphere nations cancelled their European tours amid the pandemic -- wiped out all of their pool matches.

The inaugural Autumn Nations Cup finishes with England facing fellow pool winners France in a Twickenham final on Sunday in front of 2,000 spectators -- the first time since the coronavirus pandemic that fans have been let into the ground. Below AFP Sport looks at some of the key issues heading into the tournament's concluding play-off matches: 'Le Crunch' loses its bite? "They were too good for us on that day (in February)." Meanwhile, France coach Fabien Galthie said of an experienced England that they were "possibly the best team in the world right now because South Africa aren't playing". Ireland-Scotland intrigue Saturday sees old rivals Ireland and Scotland contesting the third place play-off in Dublin, with the Irish looking for a morale-boosting win after several lacklustre displays since Andy Farrell succeeded Joe Schmidt as head coach following the World Cup. Wales worries Wales head into their match with Italy having lost seven of their nine Tests under coach Wayne Pivac and even a thumping win is unlikely to ease the pressure on the New Zealander. Fiji feature at last Fiji make a long-awaited tournament debut after coronavirus -- the reason for the tournament's existence after major southern hemisphere nations cancelled their European tours amid the pandemic -- wiped out all of their pool matches. They will be up against a Georgia team whose gutsy showing against Ireland demonstrated the value of second-tier nations being exposed to a run of games against top-class opposition.

England face depleted France in Nations Cup final flourish

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane takes his side to Sevilla in La Liga this weekend days insisting he is not planning on resigning despite a disastrous recent run.

Madrid have won just once in La Liga since October and also lost at Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions on Tuesday and must beat Borussia Moenchengladbach next week to advance.

Real have drawn with in-form Villarreal, were edged out at lowly Alaves and were hammered at Valencia since their last league victory leaving the champions in fourth place, seven points off leaders Real Sociedad.&nbsp;

"I have the strength needed to turn the situation around and I am going to give everything to do that, so are the players," Zidane said after the loss in Ukraine.

"We have to lift ourselves up and think about the next match. We're on a bad run, there's nothing else to do other than think about the next match and go ahead.

"In difficult moments, you have to show character," he added.

Local press have linked former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and ex-Madrid forward Raul forward to the Frenchman's job.

According to newspaper AS captain Sergio Ramos called a squad meeting this week, with Zidane absent, telling team-mates to give "an extra push until the end of the year."

"This is Real Madrid, gentlemen. Together, we've come out of worse," Ramos reportedly said ahead of the trip to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan where they have lost on six of their last eight visits.

Saturday's hosts went unbeaten in the Spanish top-flight throughout November after a sluggish start to the season under former Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui.

Spain playmaker Suso is set to return for the Europa League champions after being sidelined for six weeks with a muscle injury.

<h2>Player to watch: Joao Felix</h2>

The Portugal attacker is on the verge of equalling his last season's goal tally for Atletico Madrid, when he hit nine.

His 126 million euros fee, second for a teenager behind the amount Paris Saint-Germain paid for Kylian Mbappe, put pressure on Felix and he failed to settle in his first campaign in the Spanish capital missing 13 games through injury.

On Saturday, Atletico host 17th-place Real Valladolid and a win could send them top temporarily with Sociedad heading to Alaves a day later.

Under-fire Zidane asks Madrid players to stand up and be counted

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson hit the highest Test score of his career on Friday with a majestic 251 as the hosts posted an imposing 519 for seven declared on day two of the first Test against the West Indies in Hamilton.

In reply, the injury-hit West Indies were 49 without loss with John Campbell on 22 and Kraigg Brathwaite on 20 after cautiously negotiating the 26 overs to stumps.

After two months playing in the same Indian Premier League team as West Indies skipper Jason Holder, Williamson, 30, slipped seamlessly back into the strict demands of the red-ball game.&nbsp;

He was thrust into the Test after five overs and over the next 10 hours and 24 minutes he faced 412 deliveries, caressing the ball to all points as he picked the deliveries that needed to be played and rarely touched anything else.

Williamson's third double century, eclipsing his unbeaten 242 against Sri Lanka nearly six years ago, included 34 fours and two sixes. It extended his New Zealand record to 22 Test centuries, three more than team-mate Ross Taylor.&nbsp;

The first signs that Williamson was thinking of declaring came when he sharply lifted the scoring rate after passing 200.&nbsp;

His next 51 came off 42 deliveries. In one Kemar Roach over he smacked two fours and a six before being given out on 222, caught behind, only to be recalled when replays showed the delivery was a no-ball.&nbsp;

It was Alzarri Joseph who finally removed the New Zealand talisman with his sole wicket of the innings, a short delivery that Williamson mistimed and was caught at mid-wicket by Roston Chase.&nbsp;

He walked off to a standing ovation and with the West Indies players rushing over to congratulate him on a masterful performance.&nbsp;

Three overs later, once Kyle Jamieson reached his half-century, Williamson declared.

<h2>- Low-scoring streak -</h2>

The tall Jamieson, with his unbeaten 51, is proving a solid performer in his third Test outing and was the only other batsman to add significantly to the New Zealand total on day two.&nbsp;

Ross Taylor, who was 31 not out overnight, could only add seven before he was caught behind by Shamarh Brooks who took over the gloves from the injured Shane Dowrich.

Henry Nicholls' low-scoring streak continued when he went for seven, extending his run without a half-century to 13 innings.&nbsp;

Tom Blundell supported Williamson for more than 90 minutes but made only 14, while Daryl Mitchell could only add nine with Tim Southee not out for 11 at the close.

For the West Indies, Gabriel took three for 89, Kemar Roach took three for 114 and Joseph one for 99.

Usual first drop Darren Bravo did not field Friday because of an Achilles heel strain and is expected to bat down the order at seven, while regular 'keeper Dowrich did not take part on day two because of a hand injury and may not bat at all.&nbsp;

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Friday confirmed that star striker Sergio Aguero will miss Saturday’s <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">Premier League</a> match against Fulham as the Argentine continues to train with the team and is “getting better”.&nbsp;

Guardiola, who will be participating in his 700th match as a manager thanked his previous clubs – Barcelona and Bayern Munich – and his current employers along with all the players and staff he has worked with to achieve the “great number”.

"700 games. I will do 700 more, then retire. I never expected it. It's good to have 700 games with few defeats in these games, for all the players and staff we had in Barca B, first team, Bayern and Man City. It's a great number, with all the people we made incredible things together and hopefully, we can do more in the future,” Guardiola said.

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman on Friday expressed his annoyance with interim&nbsp;president Carles Tusquets who on Thursday said that Barca should have sold Lionel Messi in the summer transfer window given the dire financial situation of the club.&nbsp;

"The comments from outside do not interest me and those from inside the club do not help us to have the tranquillity to do our job, which is to win the games," Koeman said at a press conference ahead of Saturday's Liga game against Cadiz.&nbsp;

"We cannot control the statements from outside, but those from inside the club, I believe that it is different," he said.

Tusquets of Thursday said that "economically speaking, I would have sold Messi in the summer. Economically speaking, it would have been desirable".

Messi wanted to leave Barcelona in the summer transfer window after submitting an official request.

However, he backed down saying he doesn’t want to hurt Barcelona and the fans. He will be allowed to leave for free in 2021.&nbsp;

'We know Leo's situation': Ronald Koeman irked by Lionel Messi and money talk at Barcelona

Australian head coach Justin Langer blew up at match referee David Boon for India’s usage of concussion substitute. Star Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal replaced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja after the latter suffered a concussion after the completion of India’s innings in the first T20I against Australia at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Friday.&nbsp;

As per rules, the match referee is the final official to approve the concussion substitute after consultation with medical staff. The BCCI medical team came to the conclusion that Jadeja suffered a concussion and as India didn’t have any other all-rounder in the team and Jadeja regularly bowls four overs for India in T20Is, the match referee approved the decision to field Chahal as a substitute to Jadeja.

Lander was seen having a heated conversation with Boon before the start of the second innings after Jadeja was struck on the helmet on the second ball of the final over of the first innings from Mitchell Starc.

An over earlier, Jadeja had suffered an injury to his right that suggested he could be out of bowling in the Australian innings, making Chahal a perfect replacement for Jadeja.

<h2>Concussion replacements are strange: Virat Kohli</h2>

“There were no plans of having Yuzi in the game. Concussion replacements are a strange thing. Today, it worked for us. Yuzi showed character to squeeze the opponents. I thought they had a great start. They were cruising. The batters offered us a few wickets. That is T20 cricket for you,” Indian skipper Kohli said after the match.

<h2>Can't challenge medical experts: Finch</h2>

“Their doctor had ruled Jadeja out due to concussion. You can't be challenging a medical expert's opinion,” Australian captain Finch said.

Notably, Jadeja didn’t undergo concussion test after he was hit on the helmet by Starc and was only evaluated after the end of innings. However, ICC regulations permit concussion test to be conducted at the end of the over, which happened in this case – the end of innings. There are suggestions that Jadeja probably suffered a delayed concussion.

“Should he have had a concussion test there and then?” Mark Waugh said on Fox Cricket. “He would not have been able to bat.”

“You would think the Australian management would be saying wouldn’t there be protocols that need to be met to make that judgement,” Gilchrist added. “Because he scored the lion’s share of his runs after that.”

“You can’t have it both ways,” Waugh said. “You can’t have a substitute who can then bowl for you and then bat on.”

“No doctor or physio came out to test Jadeja for concussion... he then looks like his [sic] has done something to his leg... then they pull the concussion replacement!!! #RatSniffed,” former England captain Michael Vaughan tweeted.

Concussion replacements are a strange thing. Today, it worked for us. Yuzi showed character to squeeze the opponents. I thought they had a great start. They were cruising. The batters offered us a few wickets. That is T20 cricket for you,” Indian skipper Kohli said after the match. Can't challenge medical experts: Finch “Their doctor had ruled Jadeja out due to concussion. “He would not have been able to bat.” “You would think the Australian management would be saying wouldn’t there be protocols that need to be met to make that judgement,” Gilchrist added. “Because he scored the lion’s share of his runs after that.” “You can’t have it both ways,” Waugh said. “You can’t have a substitute who can then bowl for you and then bat on.” “No doctor or physio came out to test Jadeja for concussion... he then looks like his [sic] has done something to his leg... then they pull the concussion replacement!!! #RatSniffed,” former England captain Michael Vaughan tweeted. Steph Curry,&nbsp;who spent nine months off the court while launching his own brand, is back on the court as he said he is raring to go after not playing any basketball for such a long time. “I never had a time of not playing games for such a long time,” Curry said speaking to media after Golden State Warriors started their training camp with individual workouts on Wednesday.

A league&nbsp;worst 15-50 record and the COVID-19 pandemic led to a longer than expected break for the Warriors, but Curry was going from strength-to-strength. As restrictions eased, he started playing in scrimmages eventually leading up to 5-on-5 workouts with teammates until last month. “It was good to kind of shake the cobwebs off and not wait until December to get competitive live-action before playing regular-season games,” said Curry.

In an off-season like never seen before, Curry was not only strengthening his left hand, but he kept himself relevant interviewing America’s lead expert on infectious diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, made a virtual appearance at the Democratic National Convention and teed off with Phil Mickelson. And he saw the ‘Bubble’ too. “Watching the bubble was weird. It was nice to be a fan for a little bit, but I definitely want to be playing competitive basketball and in games that matter,” he remarked.

Unlike a few years back, Warriors don’t carry the favorites tag, but Curry has a lot of weight to carry as Klay Thompson was ruled out for a second consecutive season. “It is going to be a tough year without him,” Curry admitted. Warriors will look to their No.2 Draft pick James Wiseman to play a bigger role and Curry knows the 19-year-old will contribute to make them a much better basketball team. “He has a game that doesn’t look like a 19-year-old. He doesn’t lack confidence and he knows he belongs here,” said Curry of Wiseman.

The Tokyo Olympics 2020 was the biggest sporting event to have gotten hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the first time since World War II that the Games were postponed. The preparations and build-up to the Olympics 2020 were second to none but the monumental event couldn’t go ahead due to the coronavirus. Now, Tokyo 2020 organisers have said that the 2020 Games will cost at least an extra $2.4 billion over postponement cost and pandemic health measures.&nbsp;

Tokyo 2020 said that an additional $1.5 billion would be required for operations costs related to the deferment of the event whereas another $900 million would be needed on coronavirus countermeasures for the Olympic Games in 2021.

The dollar figure is calculated at an exchange rate of 107 yen, and is closer to $2.56 billion when calculated at today's rate.

The financial numbers could even spike further with Tokyo 2020 saying it will release another $250 million in ‘contingency’ funds to help cover the expenses.

The extra costs will help the Olympics officials and organisers in a bid to build some enthusiasm and momentum for the Tokyo Games as the organisers insisted that the mega event can go ahead in 2021 even if the pandemic is not under control.

However, such spending could further intensify public opinion in Japan where polls, earlier in 2020, showed that the majority of people think that the Olympics should be postponed again or cancelled altogether.

A part of additional costs to conduct the Tokyo Olympics will come from the Japanese taxpayers with the total portion of it to be divided by the national government, city of Tokyo and organisers.

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 750th goal of his remarkable career in a 3-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday as Stephanie Frappart became the first female referee to take charge of a Champions League match.

Federico Chiesa, with his first-ever Champions League goal, and Alvaro Morata were also on target while Ronaldo reached another milestone although it was far from his most spectacular goal as the ball appeared to go in off his shin.

The 35-year-old has scored 450 goals for Real Madrid, 118 for Manchester United, 102 for Portugal, 75 for Juventus and five for his first club, Sporting.

Ronaldo said on Instagram: “750 goals, 750 happy moments, 750 smiles on the faces of our fans. Thanks to all the players and coaches who have helped me reach this incredible number, thanks to all my loyal opponents who have made me work harder and harder every day.”

“Next stop: 800.”

TWith Juventus already qualified from Group G and Dynamo Kyiv already eliminated, the main interest was focused on Frappart but the Frenchwoman was barely noticed -- usually regarded as a good sign for a referee’s performance.

Frappart, who made her Ligue 1 debut in April last year, booked three players and ignored one penalty shout from the Ukrainians in the first half when Benjamin Verbic went down under a challenge from Leonardo Bonucci.

Juve, second in the group with 12 points and three behind Barcelona, went ahead in the 21st minute when Chiesa scored with a textbook downward header from Alex Sandro’s teasing cross.

His first goal in the competition came just over 20 years after his father Enrico scored his last, for Fiorentina against Bordeaux.

Ronaldo side-footed against the bar before halftime but, as usual, the Portuguese was not to be denied and was on target in the 57th minute with his tenth goal in eight games this season.

Chiesa whipped in a low cross, goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan palmed it against Morata and Ronaldo scored from close range. The goal was confirmed after a VAR review.

Chiesa was also involved in setting up the third goal for Morata in the 66th minute to round off a convincing Juventus display.

“I can’t say we played well but our defensive mistakes did cost us a lot,” said Dynamo coach Mircea Lucescu. “It’s very hard when you have players aged 21 and 18 in your back line. Those errors were costly for us. It’s just a lack of experience.”

The NBA announced Wednesday that 48 players have tested positive for the coronavirus, a dramatic increase over the zero positive tests reported during last season's quarantine bubble in Florida.

The league said the positive tests are the result of 546 tests carried out between November 24-30 as the NBA gets set to begin preseason games in nine days.&nbsp;

The zero positive tests were from the beginning of last season's quarantine bubble to the end of the season in mid-October.

One team, the&nbsp;Golden State Warriors, has already delayed the beginning of their individual workouts by a day this week because of players testing positive.

This was the initial round of tests for players as they returned to their teams ahead of the start of individual workouts on Tuesday. The NBA says it will be testing all of its players daily throughout the season.

The infection rate number is also higher than the 46 players that tested positive for Covid-19 in the weeks ahead of the start of the pandemic-disrupted season. The new results show the league has a positivity rate of 8.8 percent, which is high.

Under the league's tough new Covid-19 protocols, a players who tests positive has to refrain from workouts for at least 10 days and more if he is showing symptoms.

La Liga champions Real Madrid announced on Wednesday a profit of 313,000 euros ($378,600) for the 2019/2020 financial year, down 38.1 million euros from the previous period.

Real predicted they would record revenues of 617 million euros for the coming 12 months despite the coronavirus pandemic.

"The impact of Covid-19 has led to a reaction of -13 percent (minus 106 millions euros) in income for the 2019/20 financial year," Real said in a statement.

"The club maintains a solid equity situation with a net equity of 553 million euros and treasury of 125 million euros as of 30 June...

"2020 revenues of 617 million euros are budgeted in 2020/21, around 300 million euros less than if there had been income growth as in years prior to the pandemic."

The record 13-time European champions said salary cuts helped bare the brunt of the outbreak.

"In terms of personnel costs, the players and coaches of the first Real Madrid football and basketball squads, together with the main executives of the different club divisions, have voluntarily agreed to lower their remuneration for this year by 10 percent (this reduction would have been 20 percent if the league competition could not have been completed)," the statement said.

In October, Madrid's rivals Barcelona announced they were 203 million euros down on financial expectations for the same period and had lost 97 million euros.

Real Madrid profit down 38.1mn euros due to Covid-19

Olivier Giroud scored four goals as Chelsea romped to an impressive 4-0 victory at Sevilla on Wednesday to secure top spot in Champions League Group E.

The 34-year-old striker is the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the competition since Hungarian great Ferenc Puskas in 1965 for Real Madrid against Feyenoord.

He is also the first player to net four times in a Champions League match since Cristiano Ronaldo against Malmo five years ago.

"Amazing solo performance from Olivier. Delighted with him, delighted with the team. This is a difficult place to come," Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, the last Chelsea player to score four goals in a game against Aston Villa in 2010, told BT Sport.

Both teams were already qualified for the last 16 before kick-off, but Giroud made the most of a rare start, scoring with his left foot, his right foot and his head to see Chelsea through as group winners, also slotting in a penalty.

"I didn't know until two years ago that you called it a perfect hat-trick, when I scored (a treble) against (Dynamo) Kiev in (the) Europa League, I said 'What do you mean?' It was good, I had good assists though," Giroud said.

"I will try to carry on like that -- to finish the good job of the team and it's always nice to be in the club history and we play football to mark our history, so I'm pleased to help the team to win and to score the four goals."

The France international sent out a message to Lampard, with Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham seemingly above him in the pecking order, by making the absolute most of only his second start of the season.

"Let me enjoy the night and that great win and after that we will rest and we will see what the gaffer's plan is," Giroud said when asked if he was now expecting to start against Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday.

Lampard will now be able to rest players for the final group game against Krasnodar at Stamford Bridge, with his side looking to improve on last season's run to the last 16, where they were well beaten by eventual winners Bayern Munich.

<h2>- Fine finish -</h2>

Giroud wasted little time in putting Chelsea ahead, collecting Kai Havertz's clever pass before cutting inside and bending a fine finish into the far corner in the eighth minute.

Sevilla were left frustrated as they saw two penalty appeals for handball turned down.

In the 20th minute, claims that Christian Pulisic handled were waved away by referee Artur Soares Dias after he checked the pitchside monitor.

The hosts had another penalty shout turned down following a lengthy VAR delay after an Ivan Rakitic free-kick struck the Chelsea wall.

Aside from those nervy moments, Lampard's Blues were the more threatening, with Antonio Rudiger seeing a header cleared off the line before Alfonso Pastor kept out Pulisic's low drive.

The home side started the second half brightly, as Jesus Navas picked out Nemanja Gudelj&nbsp;with a clever pass, but the Serbian international fired narrowly over.

Chelsea doubled their advantage in the 54th minute, though, as Giroud boosted his case for more game time further by latching onto Mateo Kovacic's pass and clipping the ball over the Sevilla goalkeeper.

But he was not finished there, completing his first Champions League hat-trick since a treble against Olympiakos for Arsenal in 2015 with a looping header from N'Golo Kante's cross.

Giroud rounded off a virtuoso display from the spot with seven minutes to play, scoring a spot-kick he had won himself.

Neymar dropped a bombshell on Wednesday as he followed up scoring twice for Paris Saint-Germain in their 3-1 Champions League win over Manchester United by revealing his desire to reunite with Lionel Messi next season.

The Brazilian enjoyed four successful seasons alongside the six-time Ballon d'Or winner at Barcelona before making a world record 222 million euro ($264m) move to the French capital in 2017.

"It's what I most want, to enjoy being with him on the field again," Neymar, whose contract at PSG runs until 2022, told ESPN.

"I want to play with him for sure, next year we have to do it."

Neymar was heavily linked with a return to Barcelona in 2019, but the Catalan giants were unable to fund an acceptable offer for PSG.

Barca have had to agree salary cuts worth 122 million euros in players' salaries this season to help offset the financial hole left by the coronavirus pandemic and are highly unlikely to be in a position to bring Neymar back next year.

Instead, it is Messi who could be on the move as the Argentine is out of contract at the end of the season and publicly expressed his desire to leave in August.

Then Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu would not free Messi from the final year of his deal at the Camp Nou, but Bartomeu has since resigned with new presidential elections scheduled for January 24.

Manchester City were the favourites to land Messi's signature earlier this year, but PSG could be an alternative for a player who will turn 34 at the end of this season.

"He can play in my position, there is no problem," Neymar joked. "Take me out."

Neymar's partnership with Kylian Mbappe is yet to deliver PSG's first ever Champions League title, but the French champions should have another shot in this season's knockout stages after a vital victory in Manchester.

Thomas Tuchel's men are now level on points with United and RB Leipzig with one game in Group H to come.

But PSG are in the driving seat as they host already-eliminated Istanbul Basaksehir next week, while United travel to Germany needing a point to reach the last 16.

Brazilian legend Pele has taken to social media, after the death of his “great friend” Diego Maradona, as he penned a heartfelt letter to pay homage to the deceased legendary Argentine. In Brazil, it is common to pay homage after a week of demise, when a “seventh-day mass” is celebrated by Catholics like Pele.

Both Pele and Maradona’s name are pipped against each other when there are discussions on who is the greatest player of all-time. However, Pele, in his Instagram post on Wednesday night, insisted that Maradona was second to none.&nbsp;

"The world would be much better if we could compare each other less and start admiring each other more. So, I want to say that you are beyond comparison," said the three-time World Cup winner.&nbsp;

The <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">Premier League</a> and the English Football League on Thursday agreed a £250-million rescue package as they look to put an end on months of uncertainty for lower-league clubs who are struggling financially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The EFL said clubs in Leagues One and Two – the third and fourth-tiers – would receive sum worth £50 million ($67 million).

The <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">Premier League</a> is also set to provide further financial help to the EFL in a bid to secure £200-million loan facility for clubs in the second-tier Championship.

The move brings an end to months of negotiations and talks between the two governing bodies, who have been lashed out at by many for their failure to reach an agreement.

The UK government has regularly emphasized that the Premier League, rather than the tax-payers, much help the EFL in this financial crisis.

"Our over-arching aim throughout this process has been to ensure that all EFL clubs survive the financial impact of the pandemic," said EFL chairman Rick Parry.

"I am pleased that we have now reached a resolution on behalf of our clubs and as we have maintained throughout this will provide much-needed support and clarity following months of uncertainty."

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said: "The Premier League is a huge supporter of the football pyramid and is well aware of the important role clubs play in their communities.

"Our commitment is that no EFL club need go out of business due to Covid-19.

"All football clubs continue to suffer significant financial losses as a result of the pandemic, but Premier League shareholders today unanimously agreed to provide additional funding and support for EFL clubs in real financial distress."

The financial package for League One and Two clubs is reportedly locked at £30 million to be split between 48 clubs into those divisions with further access to another £20 million packages of monitored grants.&nbsp;

The £30 million is set to be paid immediately from the Premier League to help cover the loss from matchday revenue.

The monitored grants can be applied for by clubs in need, with a joint EFL and Premier League panel ruling on eligibility.

The Premier League has committed to cover up to £15 million in interest and arrangement fees to enable a £200 million loan to be secured for Championship clubs.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: "I warmly welcome this deal between the Premier League and the EFL, which provides up to £250 million support to help clubs through Covid.

"I'm glad that football has come together to agree this substantial package. Fans are starting to return and we look forward to building on this as soon as it's safe."
