RCB all-rounder Ellyse Perry starred when it mattered, slamming a brilliant 66 and picking a wicket.

Following a crisp start with both openers – Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine scoring a few fours, MI’s Hayley Matthews broke the stand by removing Devine in her first over. Nat Sciver-Brunt then picked the big wicket of Mandhana, caught in the deep two balls later before Saika Ishaque removed Disha Kasat on a seven-ball duck to put RCB under pressure.

Matthews returned to pick her second wicket in Richa Ghosh, getting her out on 14, as RCB’s scorecard read 49 for four inside ten overs.

However, RCB’s star all-rounder Ellyse Perry stood her ground and kept the run rate ticking, bailing her team out of trouble. The right-handed batter, alongside Sophie Molineux, added 35 for the fifth wicket, approaching her fifty in the must-win game.&nbsp;

After Nat Sciver-Brunt removed Molineux, Perry received little support from Georgia Wareham, as she completed her fifty, scoring 66 in total as RCB managed to put up a fighting total (135 for six) on the board.

<h2>Champions MI crumble under pressure</h2>

Even the best of teams crack under pressure, and title holders Mumbai Indians were no different on Friday.&nbsp;

Following a decent start to their chase, with their scorecard reading 50 for two at one stage, the defending champions looked comfortable to make it to their second successive WPL final.

Although, at least until the 17th over, they were the favourites to win this Eliminator. However, the RCB side turned the tide during the fag end of the innings. After Harmanpreet Kaur got out, caught in the deep on 33, the pressure got onto the lower middle order in the final two overs.&nbsp;

An excellent penultimate over from Molineux in which she even picked a wicket, got RCB back into the game.&nbsp;

However, it all fell to Asha Sobhana in the final over, who held her nerves and bowled six outstanding deliveries to see her team home in a tight clash by five runs.

With this win, RCB reached their maiden WPL final. They will face Delhi Capitals on Sunday for the WPL title.

"Covid certainly played a role, there's no doubt about it. From an international perspective, the 2015 World Cup hurt big time. It took me a while to get over that and then, when I got back into the side and I was ready to commit, I didn't feel the same culture that I really needed at that time."

"It would be great to have WPL in the multi-city format. I think that might be the next step and I am sure the people right here would look into it and make it happen. As an RCB fan, I would love to play in Chinnaswamy where people are chanting ‘RCB RCB’ and just to be in that environment. That is something which is one step ahead for us that it (multi-city format) can reach to places where women's cricket hasn't reached and to get new audience going into women's cricket,” Mandhana commented.

The 27-year-old believes that the RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India was a much-needed platform to understand how different business people look at sports as a platform to generate digital numbers and feels the event should happen more often to interact with other sports icons and business top brass.

I think women's sports in general should be treated separately and by doing that they can definitely sell a lot of things in terms of the ticketing or the digital rights.”

When asked about the areas women’s cricket needs in terms of further investment or further focus to keep propelling forward, Mandhana suggested focusing on the grassroots level. “The only thing that we could invest in is the grassroots level of women's sport in general because a lot of interest is developed with the Indian Women's team or the WPL tournament. Invest more so that we get a lot more cricketers women cricketers,” she remarked.

Drawing inspiration from women athletes in international sports, Mandhana revealed her admiration for Alex Morgan in women's FIFA and acknowledged Serena Williams' monumental achievements in tennis as her source of motivation.

Sunday (Nov 26) was the retention deadline day for all 10n teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hardik Pandya made a lot of buzz throughout the day as he was finally switched to the Mumbai Indians, where he debuted in the cash-rich league.
