R Madhavan was in the capital city to promote his new film and spoke about the enormous support that his film has got from the two actors, Priyanka Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan.&nbsp;<br />

Turns out both Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya did not charge a penny to feature in the film which has Madhavan playing ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan.&nbsp;<br />

"Be it Suriya or (Shah Rukh) Khan Sahab, none of them charge any fee for the film. They didn't even charge anything for the caravans, costumes, and assistants. Suriya flew out to shoot in Mumbai along with his crew on his own money. He didn't even charge for the flights or for the dialogue writer who translated his lines in Tamil.<br />
"There are a lot of good people in the film industry. But, I'm from outside. People have helped me a lot. Just on my request Amit ji (Amitabh Bachchan) or Priyanka Chopra post a tweet (to support the film). I'm grateful for their love and respect towards me," Madhavan told reporters at the press conference of the movie in New Delhi.&nbsp;<br />

Madhavan said he had discussed the idea of the film with Shah Rukh when they were working on 'Zero' (2018), in which he had an extended guest appearance.<br />

"Even when I attended his birthday party, he remembered and said 'Maddy, I want to do a role in your film. Just make me pass through the background.' I thanked him for his kind words and he said, 'No, no. I'm serious'," he recalled.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Two days later, when Madhavan's wife Sarita asked him to thank Shah Rukh for his gesture, the actor said he dropped a message to the star's manager asking her to convey his gratitude.<br />
<br />
"Soon, his manager called me and said, 'Khan sahab is asking when do you want the dates?' I said I don't want to build castles in the air. But he was very serious. Then, I said there is no background role for him, there was an important part," he added.<br />

While Shah Rukh stars as himself in the Hindi and English versions of the film, Suriya stars as himself in the Tamil take.<br />

Calling 'Rocketry' the "story of a superhero" told through a commercial film, Madhavan said he hopes more films are made celebrating the success stories of scientists, engineers and IT specialists.<br />

The film is India's official selection for the festival and had its world premiere at the convention centre of Palais des Festivals.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Madhavan's film is a biopic on ISRO genius and space scientist Nambi Narayanan who was also present for the premiere along with the actor-filmmaker.<br />

The screening of the film was greeted with thunderous applause as it received a standing ovation from the full house for 10 minutes.<br />

Responding to the appreciation that his film received at the film festival, actor-turned-director Madhavan said in a statement, "I`m overwhelmed and exhilarated. And, many are even&nbsp;sharing photos and videos&nbsp;on social media to give fans a glimpse of their Cannes 2022 experience. Taking to his Instagram handle, actor-filmmaker&nbsp;R Madhavan marked Day 1 of the prestigious movie festival. He shared a video from his hotel room in French Reviere and showed off the amazing early morning view from his window.</p>

<p>This Cannes Film Festival is extra special for&nbsp;R Madhavan as his upcoming film&nbsp;'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect'&nbsp;is going to premiere at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. For those uninitiated, the film marks Madhavan's directorial debut.</p>

However, his French connection doesn't end there. In fact, it has only gotten bigger. The scientist's upcoming biopic 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect',&nbsp;which marks R. Madhavan's directorial debut and sees Madhavan playing the titular role, is to have its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France 2022 on May 19th. This is also happening at a time when India and France are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations and the Cannes Film festival steps into its 75th year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Having his biopic premiere at Cannes would be a special moment for the octagenarian aerospace scientist, who spent a considerable period of his professional life in France, working to co-develop an advanced rocket engine. From 1974 to 1980, a team of 100 Indian scientists(in different batches), led by Nambi Narayanan, were in Vernon, France to jointly develop the 60-ton-thrust Viking-3 Engine, under a pact. The development of this engine was an exponential level-up for India, where the space programme was then in the very nascent stage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On their return to India, the Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO)team led by Nambi Narayanan developed the Engine further, into a complete stage that could be fitted into India's then under-development PSLV rocket. While the French called their engine Viking-3, Nambi Narayanan named the Indian equivalent as 'Vikas'. Vikas means development in Sanskrit, but Nambi saw an adapted anagram - Vikram A Sarabhai, the Father of India's Space Programme and a man whom Nambi considered his guru.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A large part of India's PSLV rocket’s success and reliability is owed to its Vikas Engine, that was co-developed by ISRO and French SEP Engineers. It was Princeton-postgraduate ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan(now regarded as the Father of Liquid Propulsion engine technology in India) who had worked towards ensuring that India focussed on improvising its capability in liquid propulsion rocketry. Notably, this Vikas engine powers the PSLV and GSLV rockets, even today.</p>

<p>Despite his stellar contributions to the country, the scientist was wrongly arrested by the Kerala police based on a fabricated case, at a time when he was scaling the peak of his career and aiming to exponentially increase India’s capability in launching heavy rockets. Known as the 'ISRO Spy Case', it is a dark, lesser-known and embarrassing chapter of Indian history. It took several years for Narayanan to be acquitted in the case, however, the errant officials of the Kerala Police and Intelligence bureau that are said to have fabricated the case and framed him are still scot-free.</p>

<p>'Rocketry' is widely regarded as a special film and a breakthrough, as science-based biopics are a rarity in Indian cinema. Notably, this would also be the first film that is exclusively made based on the life of an Indian space scientist. The trailer of the film indicates that it captures the highs and lows of Narayanan’s career and his contributions to the country’s space programme and how the fabricated ‘spy case’ had an adverse, irreversible impact on his life, and career and reputation.</p>

Having his biopic premiere at Cannes would be a special moment for the octagenarian aerospace scientist, who spent a considerable period of his professional life in France, working to co-develop an advanced rocket engine. From 1974 to 1980, a team of 100 Indian scientists(in different batches), led by Nambi Narayanan, were in Vernon, France to jointly develop the 60-ton-thrust Viking-3 Engine, under a pact. The development of this engine was an exponential level-up for India, where the space programme was then in the very nascent stage. R Madhavan's 'Rocketry' to premiere at 2022 Cannes Film Festival On their return to India, the Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO)team led by Nambi Narayanan developed the Engine further, into a complete stage that could be fitted into India's then under-development PSLV rocket. While the French called their engine Viking-3, Nambi Narayanan named the Indian equivalent as 'Vikas'. Vikas means development in Sanskrit, but Nambi saw an adapted anagram - Vikram A Sarabhai, the Father of India's Space Programme and a man whom Nambi considered his guru. A large part of India's PSLV rocket’s success and reliability is owed to its Vikas Engine, that was co-developed by ISRO and French SEP Engineers. It was Princeton-postgraduate ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan(now regarded as the Father of Liquid Propulsion engine technology in India) who had worked towards ensuring that India focussed on improvising its capability in liquid propulsion rocketry. Notably, this Vikas engine powers the PSLV and GSLV rockets, even today. Despite his stellar contributions to the country, the scientist was wrongly arrested by the Kerala police based on a fabricated case, at a time when he was scaling the peak of his career and aiming to exponentially increase India’s capability in launching heavy rockets. Known as the 'ISRO Spy Case', it is a dark, lesser-known and embarrassing chapter of Indian history. It took several years for Narayanan to be acquitted in the case, however, the errant officials of the Kerala Police and Intelligence bureau that are said to have fabricated the case and framed him are still scot-free. 'Rocketry' is widely regarded as a special film and a breakthrough, as science-based biopics are a rarity in Indian cinema. Notably, this would also be the first film that is exclusively made based on the life of an Indian space scientist. The trailer of the film indicates that it captures the highs and lows of Narayanan’s career and his contributions to the country’s space programme and how the fabricated ‘spy case’ had an adverse, irreversible impact on his life, and career and reputation. 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' is slated to hit the screens worldwide on July 1st 2022.

<p>Having fought a nearly three-decade-long legal battle to clear himself from a fabricated Spy Case, ISRO's veteran Rocket scientist Nambi Narayanan is gearing up for the release of his biopic. 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect', starring R&nbsp;Madhavan, is also a film that the versatile actor has directed and scripted. At a special event in the Dubai Expo, organized by India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Madhavan and Nambi Narayanan spoke about their respective journey with regards the biopic and how it was made.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Nambi Narayanan, he firmly held the notion that his story must be told raw and without cinematic effects(dance sequences in a dream) and a hero performing stunts. He felt that very few could meet the requirements of such a story, as the actor would have to understand the script about Rocketry, while also resembling Nambi Narayanan and behaving like a rocket scientist. He also had an urge that the younger generation and laymen must know about, understand Rocketry and its inception in India, despite it being a complex subject.</p>

<p>"This meant that the actor should have an ability to understand the concept. Madhavan is basically an engineer and he can understand the subject. When I tried to narrate certain incidents to him where I saved Abdul Kalam from a lab accident, while conducting a science experiment, he got that point in no time" Narayanan recalls.&nbsp;</p>

<p>R. Madhavan touched upon how he had taken up to seven months to complete the first version of the film's script, following which he approached Nambi Narayanan for seeking his approval of the script, as was agreed upon.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"With seven months of research and writing, I thought I had gotten the details right. But then, after meeting Nambi sir for his approval of the script, I got to know about his education at Princeton, his rapport with Dr Abdul Kalam and Vikram Sarabhai and his work in France, Russia, Scotland and the journey just unfolded. After that conversation, I deleted that first script and then took around one and a half years to get a whole new script ready" Madhavan said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The actor also touched upon how it was decided to make the film in English as well, given that hardly very few Indian films are released originally in English. Madhavan said that he was discouraged from making it in English. However, he felt that the story was about a man who had been wronged and was put down because he was bringing in technological change. On having acted, directed, scripted and produced Rocketry, Madhavan admitted that he was sceptical of doing it all simultaneously in one project, but was passionate and compelled to do this film, based on the life of a veteran ISRO scientist.</p>

They share a daughter together, Rohini, and live in a plush neighbourhood in Gurgaon. For the outside world, it's a perfect match- or so say the onlookers, but when you dig deeper, you realise there is no love left between the two.&nbsp;<br />

Created and written by journalist Manu Joseph, who is known for his witty take on life, 'Decoupled' is perhaps the most experimental content that Netflix India has produced this year. On the face of it, its a story of a couple on verge of separation and how they and their families come to terms with their 'unique' arrangement. But the dramedy is much more.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Through its protagonist Arya Iyer, the series takes a dig at almost everything. From marriage, love and&nbsp;divorces to the ultra-religious kinds to teenage boys and puberty to even Netflix and Korean hit 'Parasite', the series spares no one. And the story's hero Arya Iyer, a caustic, cynical middle-aged man, is too upfront and obnoxious to be taken seriously and liked. It's a different story that most of Arya's jargon on life are actually true. But he doesn't know how to wrap up the unpleasant truth in the appropriate manner, making almost everyone around him loathe him, including his patient wife Shruti, who only gives steely glares to him through the greater part of this eight-part dramedy.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
While the premise is promising and the lead pair is pitch-perfect in their respective roles, the narrative is sketchy. A scene in the middle of the series has one of Arya's filmmaker friend Manav complaining that how Netflix is not happy with of the pitches that he and Arya have made so far. "The jokes just don't land," complains the Netflix executive moments later. Indeed, the jokes just don't land in 'Decoupled' on most occasions. They are outrageous, sometimes slightly cringy but not funny making the viewer wonder where exactly is the story headed.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The couple, through the eight episodes, muddle over how to break the news of their divorce to their daughter and the world at large, and the process seems too stretched and tad repetitive after a point. The makers try to experiment with a concept like a divorce- sprucing it with dry humour- yet succumb to predictability and slapstick in the final episode in an attempt to make it funny. The result is not the best.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla though are very good as Arya and Shruti. Arya is not the man you would want to be friends with. He is too honest for his own good and rather brash. Madhavan, who has played myriad roles in nearly three-decades-long careers, breathes in a certain amount of freshness to his character. Arya is popular but also someone you will easily hate or will be uncomfortable around. It's a delight to watch Maddy play a character that one wouldn't immediately associate the actor with - considering the do-gooder roles that he has played for years. It's a delight to watch R Madhavan as the politically incorrect Arya Iyer.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Matching him with her ice-cold glares is actress Surveen Chawla, who makes her character Shruti a stark contrast to Arya. You empathise with her at one time but also get confused at other times. Chawla over the years has made her niche in the film industry by carefully picking her roles. 'Decoupled' gives her ample opportunity to prove her mettle and she doesn't disappoint.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The supporting cast comprising of Akaash Khurana, Apara Mehta, Atul Kumar, Mir Afsar Ali and Aseem Hattangady are equally good.&nbsp;</p>

He is too honest for his own good and rather brash. Madhavan, who has played myriad roles in nearly three-decades-long careers, breathes in a certain amount of freshness to his character. Arya is popular but also someone you will easily hate or will be uncomfortable around. It's a delight to watch Maddy play a character that one wouldn't immediately associate the actor with - considering the do-gooder roles that he has played for years. It's a delight to watch R Madhavan as the politically incorrect Arya Iyer. Matching him with her ice-cold glares is actress Surveen Chawla, who makes her character Shruti a stark contrast to Arya. You empathise with her at one time but also get confused at other times. Chawla over the years has made her niche in the film industry by carefully picking her roles. 'Decoupled' gives her ample opportunity to prove her mettle and she doesn't disappoint. The supporting cast comprising of Akaash Khurana, Apara Mehta, Atul Kumar, Mir Afsar Ali and Aseem Hattangady are equally good. In the end, 'Decoupled' meanders and mulls over the same issues too much and never reaches the climactic peak that it deserves. It is watchable only for its cast. Definitely not for its wry take on marriage, love, divorce and the paraphernalia that comes along with it. 'Decoupled' is streaming on Netflix.

<p>As per media reports, Akshay Kumar will be collaborating with producer Vikram Malhotra for the Hindi remake of Bhaagamathie. The film will star R. Madhavan and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. Director G Ashok, who originally helmed Bhaagamathie, will direct the remake as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There is also news that Akshay will be a part of the film in terms of acting in the form of a cameo role but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. It is reported that the star will shoot for six to eight days. It is on the lines of horror suspense like ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film is expected to go on floor by early December.</p>
