The onus was on skipper Rishabh Pant (39 not out off 36) to take the team to a respectable total and he did that in the company of Sarfaraz Khan (36 not out off 28) who was playing his debut game for the franchise.

Pant mainly targeted the straight boundaries and Sarfaraz, without taking much risks, showed skills that has fetched him a bagful of runs in domestic cricket.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The two-match Test series which will be hosted by South Africa will get underway from March 31 in Durban. None of the Indian Premier League (IPL)-bound players have been named in the Test squad.

South Africa's Test skipper Dean Elgar had recently appealed to all his players to remain available for the Bangladesh Tests as he wanted to head into the series with his best squad. Elgar had requested the IPL-bound South African players to prioritise their country over the T20 league.

However, despite the South African skipper's request, none of the IPL-bound players have been included in the squad. "I can't take the field without my best side in order to give ourselves the best chance. I need my best players. You don't want players to miss out on a big occasion like the IPL, by no means. But I'd still like to think playing for your country is bigger than that," Elgar had said in a press conference earlier this month.

There are a host of South African players who are part of different franchises for the upcoming IPL 2022. The likes of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen and Aiden Markram among others are integral members of the South African Test team but will be playing in IPL 2022 while skipping the Test series against Bangladesh.

Reacting to the development, Cricket South Africa (CSA) in a statement clarified that the board is currently not at liberty to refuse players the opportunity to not take part in the IPL. CSA said the Test team against Bangladesh will be without the IPL-bound players.

"The team will be without its IPL players. In the wake of his Player of the Series performance, the 29-year-old De Kock has moved up four positions. After accumulating 229 runs, including a match-winning 124, he is in the top five for the first time since the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019. During the same period, Van der Dussen advanced 10 spots to achieve a career-best 10th position after scoring 218 runs. Before the latest weekly update, which also includes the Afghanistan-Netherlands series and the final Sri Lanka-Zimbabwe match, captain Temba Bavuma also jumped up to 59th place from 80th.

Shikhar Dhawan, India's leading scorer in the South Africa ODIs, has moved up one spot to 15th on the list, headed by Pakistan captain Babar Azam with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in second and joint-third positions, respectively. A five-place jump propels Rishabh Pant to 82nd place.

In Wednesday's update, South Africa's bowlers have also gained significantly. Following his five wickets in the series, fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is back in the top 20, while spinner Keshav Maharaj is at a career-high 33rd position. Andile Phehlukwayo rose seven places to 52nd, having taken six wickets in the series.

England bowler Jason Roy's 45-run knock in the West Indies' second match helped him move up one spot to 15th in the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings, while Brandon King of the West Indies rose 28 places to 88th thanks to his unbeaten 52 in the first match.

Rahmat Shah, who scored 153 runs against the Netherlands, has climbed seven places to joint-36th, and Hashmatullah Shahidi has climbed nine spots to 53rd. Scott Edwards' series-leading 208 runs move him up 97 places to 100th for the Netherlands. Likewise, Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka progressed from 52nd to a career-best 46th position.

As far as bowlers are concerned, Jason Holder is up to a career-best 26th place following his four-for-seven haul in the first T20I versus England, which earned him the Player of the Match award. The National Selection Panel has gone with the same core group that successfully toured the West Indies in June of this year and has included three others. South Africa wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock returned to the team's playing XI and took a knee ahead of the Proteas clash against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup 2021 on Saturday (October 30). De Kock had earlier pulled out of South Africa's previous game against West Indies, in protest after Cricket South Africa (CSA) had directed all players to take a knee.

De Kock later issued a statement explaining his side and stating that he is 'not a racist'. He apologised for his actions and promised to take a knee with the rest of his teammates while also making himself available for the remaining matches in T20 World Cup 2021.

As promised, De Kock was seen taking a knee with his South Africa teammates ahead of the Sri Lanka game in Sharjah on Saturday. The cricketers are taking a knee during the T20 World Cup to extend their support toward the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and take a stand against racism of any form.

ICC shared a video of De Kock taking a knee on social media with the message - "United against racism".
