Nearly two years after discontinuing the use of the controversial robot dog, the New York Police Department (NYPD) is bringing it back.&nbsp;The usage of Digidog was viewed by New Yorkers as an unnecessary and uncomfortable expansion of severe policing in April 2021, so the city's law enforcement officials sent the robot back to Boston Dynamics, its maker.&nbsp;

In December 2020, the police department made their initial announcement&nbsp;of the Digidog. It had generated criticism because of its striking resemblance to a fictitious dystopian killer robot dog that was shown in a Black Mirror episode.

The Digidog will be reintroduced, according to NYC mayor Eric Adams, who added during a press conference on Tuesday that it can "save lives". The Digidog will be used for "assessing hazardous situations" in the city.

"In terms of public safety, the New York City Police Department has always been in the forefront. They improve, assess, and develop fresh approaches to safeguard our city,"&nbsp;Adams tweeted on Wednesday.

Robotic dogs set to make a comeback to New York police department despite earlier criticism

At least three people are reportedly injured&nbsp;in the US state of Delaware Saturday evening in yet another incident&nbsp;of gun violence in the country, this time&nbsp;at Christiana Mall, a shopping place outside of the port city of Wilmington, reports said citing state police.&nbsp;

Following the incident in the New Castle County, law enforcement agencies and other emergency responders reached the spot. New Castle County Coordinator of Emergency Management Dave Carpenter Jr. told CNN that an investigation is underway to gather further details into the incident.&nbsp;

The victims of the gunfire have all been taken to a local hospital for medical attention, according to police. However, the police authorities have yet not offered any information on their health condition.&nbsp;

"We heard like seven or eight shots, 'Bam! Bam! Bam!'," said Jim Harmon, a gunshot victim. "Everybody started running."

"I felt something graze off my shoulder," he said. "It's not bad, but it's ok."

As per reports, people were instructed to run and hide after the shooting.

Paige Menasion from Newark said, "I have my daughters with me, the first thing in my mind is 'Thank God they are safe and with me and I know where they are."&nbsp;

"Most important thing was to keep them safe and to stay safe and quiet until the shooter was found," Menasion said.

Three injured in shooting at Christiana Mall in US state of Delaware, probe launched

Canadian authorities recovered eight bodies from the St. Lawrence River near Akwesasne, amoung them are bodies of two families, one of Romanian descent and the other of Indian citizens.&nbsp;Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service Deputy Chief Lee-Ann O’Brien said the people were likely trying to enter the United States illegally from Canada.&nbsp;

In a presser, Lee-Ann O’Brien earlier said there were five adults and one child. Later, a&nbsp;police helicopter retrieved two more bodies in the St Lawrence River Friday. One child belonged to a Romanian family, she said.

A Canadian passport was also recovered from the child, as per the police. To identify the cause of death, authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests, as per reports.&nbsp;

The bodies, as per reports, were recovered in a marsh area Thursday during an aerial search with the Canadian Coast Guard.&nbsp;The&nbsp;bodies were found in Tsi Snaihne (Snye), a Mohawk territory in Akwesasne, a region that borders Quebec, Ontario, and New York state. The first body, according to the authorities, was found at&nbsp;about 5 pm.&nbsp;

The vessel was departing from the east end of Cornwall Island, in the St. Lawrence at the time of it was last seen with Oakes onboard it.&nbsp;

Indians, Romanians among eight found dead while crossing into US from Canada illegally

In another targeted killing of a minority community member, a Christian man was shot dead by unknown assailants in the northwestern region of Pakistan on Saturday, police said.

The unfortunate incident took place when the victim Kashif Masih was present at his home in the Sufaid Dheri Pishtakhara area of Peshawar.

As per the police, armed motorcyclists gunned down Kashif Maseeh on his doorstep.

"Kashif Masih was gunned down at home by a few unknown men," said police said, adding that efforts to catch the gunmen are being made.

As per reports, Singh was in his shop which is located in Peshawar's Dir Colony market when the assailants forcefully barged into his shop and started firing indiscriminately.

Singh was twice shot in the head which led to his death instantly. Around 30 bore bullet shells were recovered by the police from the site of the incident.

In May 2020, two members of the Sikh community were gunned down in Peshawar by extremists.

Victims, Guljeet Singh (42) and Ranjeet Singh (38) were operating their spice shops located in Battathal Bazaar when the attackers came and opened fire.

In another minority killing, Christian man gunned down by assailants in Pakistan

An Albanian man living in UK's Liverpool has gone viral on social media platforms after he was pictured giving the slip to law enforcement officers. 32-year-old Etmond Lika had been accused of growing cannabis in his home. When officers reached his place to arrest him, Lika climbed through the skylight and hid on the roof of the property with a police officer peering outside unaware.&nbsp;

Prosecutor Christopher Hopkins informed that a locksmith was called to change the front door lock at an address at Stanley Road, Kirkdale in February when he noticed the cannabis installations. Lika, who had crossed the English Channel in a small boat last year was offered £100 a day to live at the 'cannabis growing' property.&nbsp;

In response to the attack, Prime Minister António Costa said that it was “a criminal act.”&nbsp;

He added, “Everything points to this being an isolated incident”, adding that it was premature to make any interpretation about the crime. The identity of the alleged attacker also remains unknown. The PM also said that an investigation into the attack is underway and it is too soon to speculate on the motive.&nbsp;

The centre was opened in 1998 by Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the world’s Ismailis. The Shia Muslim centre in Lisbon also comprises prayer halls, classrooms, meeting rooms and exhibition spaces.&nbsp;

The police had also capped the number of demonstrators to 100 which garnered criticism from some. “We need to have a more free-spirited protest culture,” James Ockenden, a 49-year-old marching with his three children, told Reuters. He added, “But this is all pre-arranged and numbered and it just destroys the culture and will put people off from coming for sure.”&nbsp;

Similarly, a retired civil servant, who did not wish to be identified, called the arrangements “ridiculous” and told AFP, “I am here to join a march, not a shame parade”. The turnout at Sunday’s protest was around 80 or so people who expressed their opposition to the proposed plans, said the organisers.&nbsp;

Furthermore, the participants on Sunday were also asked not to wear all-black, something protesters did during the 2019 pro-democracy demonstrations, as they walked in a cordoned-off moving line in the rain amid heavy police presence.&nbsp;

Additionally, the police had also granted a “no objection” letter to the organisers on the condition that they would not violate national security laws like seditious displays or speech. A 70-year-old retiree, Theresa Wang, also told AP how this is “a bit weird” but still acceptable as they adjust to the “new Hong Kong.”

Some protesters threw fireworks and other projectiles as they approached the construction area. Television footage showed that at least three police vehicles were set alight.

Two protesters were seriously hurt, including one who is in a critical condition after suffering a head injury, as well as 16 police officers, the local prefecture said. One officer was evacuated by helicopter.

Thousands of protesters had converged on the site of the planned reservoir, where a similar protest last October also turned violent.

Emmanuelle Dubee, the prefect of the surrounding region, said around 1,000 radical individuals were expected among an estimated 6,000 protesters.

In light of the possible protests, around 3200 police personnel were deployed, said Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.

He blamed far left groups for the violence.

The heavy police presence included helicopters and squads riding quads.

The protest over the irrigation project comes after weeks of demonstrations in France against a pension reform that have turned violent since the government pushed through the legislation without a final parliamentary vote.

Furthermore, the report citing Nepal’s police data also said that customs evasion was the “most common crime” as among the 27 Indians arrested in the country, at least 13 were charged with customs evasion, while five others were charged with dealing in counterfeit currency. Some of the other crimes Indian citizens in Nepal were charged with&nbsp;included dealing contraband drugs, kidnapping, forgery, and so on.&nbsp;

The records at the Nepal Police Headquarters also show that Chinese nationals are involved in “more serious crimes” such as murder and organised crimes when compared to Indians, reported the Kathmandu Post. This comes as murder cases were filed against two Chinese citizens by the police this year, while there are no such cases registered against any other foreign nationals.&nbsp;

Some other crimes allegedly committed by Chinese nationals included smuggling drugs, rape, misbehaviour, and so on. After Indian and Chinese citizens, Thai nationals were third on the list with five arrests made by the Nepal police this fiscal year, reported the Kathmandu Post. In 2021-22 police arrested a total of 108 foreigners from 41 countries with 31 Indians, followed by 16 Chinese nationals and 13 Bangladeshis.&nbsp;

Indians top the list of foreigners arrested for crimes in Nepal; China a close second: Report

The police in Germany on Friday said that a male suspect was arrested after a pharmacy was stormed by a special unit in the southwestern city of Karlsruhe where many people were held hostage for hours.

Multiple explosions were heard when police officers in tactical gear stormed inside the pharmacy in the city centre after they first arrived on the scene at around 4:30 p.m.

"A special unit entered the pharmacy at 21:10; a male suspect was arrested," said Karlsruhe police on Twitter.

A man, with his head covered in a blanket, was brought out of the pharmacy by the police officers and bundled into a car.

They stated that the police searched the building and no one was found injured. The incident took place a day after the deadly shooting rampage at a Jehovah's Witnesses hall in Hamburg.

Police enter Karlsruhe pharmacy, arrest hostage-taker in Germany

A gunman opened fire in Israel's capital Tel Aviv on Thursday, in what was seen as a suspected terrorist attack. Three people were shot and injured in the attack before the gunman was killed by Israeli police, stated officials.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir confirmed that three people were wounded and the gunman was killed by the police.

"A serious attack in Tel Aviv... I congratulate the police officer who, in a courageous act, eliminated the heinous terrorist and saved many lives," said Ben-Gvir in a statement.

Police and medical workers, in large numbers, rushed to Dizengoff street, where the attack was carried out by the gunman. The area was immediately cordoned off. The customers in the streetside restaurant fled from the place mid-meal, as the Reuters footage showed.

Three people shot, injured in suspected 'terrorist attack' in Tel Aviv, gunman killed

At least eight people,&nbsp;including an unborn child, were killed in a shooting at a church in Hamburg, German police said on Thursday.&nbsp;There was "no indication of a terrorist background"&nbsp;to the attack, a spokesperson for the Hamburg prosecution’s office said. The assailant was later declared dead&nbsp;by the security forces.&nbsp;

The police said the shooting took place at a Jehovah’s Witnesses centre at about 9 pm local time (around 2000 GMT). The primary assailant is reported to be a former member of the local community of Jehovah's Witnesses.&nbsp;

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that he was left "speechless" by the shooting at a Jehovah’s Witness place of worship in his hometown of Hamburg and his thoughts went out to the victims and their relatives.

"We fear that further victims may die from their severe wounds," he said while thanking the security forces for their work.

TV footage showed armed police storming the building and escorting people out with their hands above their heads.

According to the Bild daily newspaper, the shooting happened in a Jehovah's Witness church in the city that has Germany’s biggest port.&nbsp;

UK authorities on Wednesday said that the body of a baby was discovered in southern England's woodland area, which is close to where they had arrested aristocrat Constance Marten and her partner, who is a sex offender,&nbsp;earlier this week over concerns for the welfare of their child.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford of the Met’s East Area Command said, “It is my very sad duty to update that this afternoon, police officers searching a wooded area close to where Constance Marten and Mark Gordon were arrested, discovered the remains of a baby.”

“A post-mortem examination will be held in due course,” the statement added. Earlier this week, police arrested Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, after the couple went missing in early January. It was believed that the couple was travelling with a newborn.

Over 200 officers used sniffer dogs, drones, police helicopters and thermal imaging cameras to assist them on the ground as they searched for the missing baby after the couple was found and arrested in Brighton, southern England on Monday.

Basford said that they have established a crime scene around the infant remains, where they expect the work to “continue for some time”.

“This is an outcome that myself and the many officers who have been part of the search, had hoped would not happen. I recognise the impact this news will have on the many people who have been following this story closely, and can assure them that we will do everything we possibly can to establish what has happened,” he said.

The police started a search for the couple and newborn in early January as several appeals were released by them and a £10,000 ($12,090) reward was offered for providing any information that would lead to the missing couple and newborn's discovery.

Police discover dead baby near area where Constance Marten, partner were arrested

An Indian national, aged 32, was shot dead by the Australian Police on Tuesday after he allegedly stabbed a cleaner at a railway station in Sydney and used a knife to threaten the police officers, as reported by India's news agency ANI.

The Indian national from Tamil Nadu, Mohamed Rahmathullah Syed Ahmed, was living in Auburn. Australia's Indian Consulate General found that the attacker was staying on a bridging visa in Australia.

The investigation is being carried out by the detectives in the incident and they are even exploring the angle of mental health. As per the detectives, a cleaner was stabbed by Ahmed and then the police officers were threatened with a knife before the latter was fatally shot by the police personnel.

The 28-year-old cleaner was attacked by Ahmed at Auburn train station at 12.03 am local time on Tuesday before reaching Auburn police station five minutes later, The Sydney Morning Herald reported citing police.

As quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald, Australia's Indian Consulate General said, “The incident is extremely disturbing and unfortunate. We have formally taken up the matter with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, NSW Office as well as state police authorities.”

When two police officers attempted to leave the police station and reach the spot where the stabbing took place, they were confronted by Ahmed, who tried to harm them.

After the attack, three shots were fired by the senior officer, two of which pierced Syed Ahmed's chest. A taser was also used on the attacker by a probationary constable.

Although paramedics treated Syed at the scene and he was rushed to Westmead Hospital, however, was declared dead just after 1:30 am local time, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.

At the press conference, NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith said that the officers had only a second to respond and were left with no choice but to shoot the attacker.

Northern Ireland police treating attack on John Caldwell as terrorist-related, New IRA suspected

A gunman went on a shooting rampage, killing six people, including&nbsp;his stepfather and ex-wife on Friday at multiple locations in northern Mississippi, said the sheriff, as investigators looked for clues to find out the motive behind the attack.&nbsp;Richard Dale Crum, aged 52, was armed with a shotgun and two handguns, when he opened fire at about 11 am, killing a man who was sitting on a pickup truck's driver's seat parked outside a convenience store in Arkabutla, said Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance.

Local law enforcement officials, as cited by CBS-affiliate WREG, stated that the man then reached another home, which was reported as his own residence, where he shot dead two more people. The deputies were investigating the initial crime scene when they received a second call informing them about another shooting that took place a few miles away.

When the authorities reached home, they found a dead woman who was as identified as Crum's ex-wife by the sheriff and her current husband was found injured.

Crum was caught by the deputies outside his own house, where he was arrested, Lance said. The authorities also discovered two handymen killed by gunfire, one was found in an SUV and the other was lying dead on the road.

The bodies of Crum's stepfather and the sister of his stepfather were also discovered in the neighbouring home. "Everybody has crime, and from time to time we have violent crime, but certainly nothing of this magnitude. Without being able to say what triggered this, that's the scary part,” Lance said.

Crum was jailed on the charge of capital murder without a bond and Lance added that an investigation is underway to bring additional charges. The man has also been slapped with the charge of killing Chris Eugene Boyce, 59, who was sitting in the truck outside the store.

According to the sheriff, Boyce's brother was also present in the truck, but he fled when the gunman attacked. Lance added that Boyce's brother was chased by Crum into a wooded area, where he escaped unharmed.

An “active shooter” lockdown was imposed on the elementary school in the nearby town of Coldwater when the man was being chased by law enforcement officials.

The mass shooting in Mississippi on Friday comes days after three people were killed in an attack by a gunman on a university campus in Michigan, the northern state of the US.

They were premillennialists, followers of a brand of religious fundamentalism that has been used to harm law enforcement.

Craig told investigators that the man followed her into the elevator and "began to randomly do push ups" after she said good morning to him in the building's lobby. The man then "punched her on the chin area of her face, and later grabbed her neck," the police report said,&nbsp;according to Bloomberg. Craig "defended herself by tossing her hot coffee" at him, it added. According to the chief of staff's account, Craig immediately dialled 911, and the attacker left the area, as&nbsp;reported by the BBC.&nbsp;

The statement said, "There is no evidence that the incident was politically motivated."

On Thursday night (February 9), police said that a man had been detained. The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia reported that 26-year-old Kendrick Hamlin, also known as Hamlin Khalil Hamlin, had been detained and was facing assault charges.

When in the building lobby, the individual had been "behaving erratically as if he were under the influence of an unknown narcotic," according to the police report. He had "no fixed address," according to police.

Craig, a Democrat, was chosen to serve in Congress for the first time in 2018. She represents Minnesota's 2nd district.

The police arrested a 24-year-old man in Dallas and slapped charges of suspected stealing of a pair of emperor tamarin monkeys, which were recovered unharmed in an abandoned home this week, a day after they disappeared from the Dallas Zoo.&nbsp;

The police arrested Davion Irvin late Thursday night and charged him with six counts of animal cruelty-non-livestock, stated the Dallas Police in a news release.

Irvin has been kept at the Dallas County Jail. “The preliminary investigation and help from the public identified Irvin as the man Dallas Police were looking to speak with regarding the missing monkeys at the Dallas Zoo,” the police stated.

Meanwhile, 12 squirrel monkeys' weekend theft was reported by a Louisiana zoo.

A reward of $25,000 was offered in the case of missing monkeys of Dallas zoo as officials released surveillance footage that “seems to have been critical in generating a tip that led to the recovery of the tamarins” in a home located in Lancaster, Texas.&nbsp;

A photo of an unidentified person was also released by the police as they said that the man is being searched and will be interrogated. The video shows a man slowly walking down a zoo sidewalk and constantly looking back while moving forward.&nbsp;

On Monday, the monkeys went missing from a habitat that had been “intentionally compromised,” the zoo stated, adding that there were reasons for Dallas Police to believe they were “intentionally taken from the enclosure". It was earlier announced that the zoo will remain closed on Monday due to inclement weather and the closure was further extended because of the ice storm.

Our veterinary and animal care teams have said, beyond losing a bit of weight, they show no signs of injury and both started eating and drinking almost immediately once the team completed health exams on Tuesday night," the zoo wrote on Facebook.

Police arrest suspect in case of missing monkeys of Dallas Zoo

Several suspects were arrested by the police in Peshawar, Pakistan as the investigation into the suicide bomb blast in the mosque, which killed more than 100 people, continues.

The police said that the chances of a bomber being able to evade security checks because of internal assistance cannot be ruled out completely.

This was the most deadly bombing in a decade which hit Peshawar, the north-western city of Pakistan, in which a few policemen were also killed, making it also the worst attack on Pakistan's security forces in recent history.

On Monday, a bomb blast took place in a mosque in which more than a hundred worshippers, who were present for noon prayers, were killed. The mosque was built for the police and their families who were living in a highly fortified area.

"We have found some excellent clues, and based on these clues we have made some major arrests," said Peshawar Police Chief Ijaz Khan while speaking to Reuters.

"We can't rule out internal assistance but since the investigation is still in progress, I will not be able to share more details,” he added. &nbsp;

The investigators, which include intelligence and counter-terrorism officials, are trying to decode how the suicide bomber breached the military and police checkpoints and entered into the self-contained police encampment, in which middle- and lower-ranking police personnel and their families were living.

Police released aerial and bodycam video of officers working with the Georgia State Patrol to pull the suspect from the vehicle just seconds before the train struck the patrol car.

Atlanta police lauded the officers involved in&nbsp;saving the suspect’s life&nbsp;and said that the incident shows that "no traffic stop is routine."

"We are proud of the efforts of the units on the ground as well as in the air, as they all worked to safely conclude an incident that could have ended in death or seriously bodily harm," the department said.

The driver was accused of theft by taking, evading arrest, driving recklessly, disrupting traffic, and causing damage to public property, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

The Islamabad government has withdrawn security from the residence of former prime minister Imran Khan at Banigala in the capital. Islamabad police public relations officer confirmed to local media outlet Dawn that former premier Khan has not been residing in Islamabad for several months and in hence, police cannot be deployed there. The officer added that even if the Banigala security is taken back, four vehicles and 23 personnel of the capital police and a vehicle and five FC personnel are still provided to Imran Khan to accompany him during his movement.&nbsp;

With the security of Banigala and around lifted, the police personnel and paramilitary troops have been called back. Moreover, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government also received a letter from the Punjab Home Department for the withdrawal of security from Imran Khan’s home in Lahore’s Zaman Park. However, the letter said that 50 police personnel who are presently deployed could be asked for security again in case of any requirement.

Police protection withdrawn from Imran Khan’s Banigala residence in Islamabad

The police arrested a 29-year-old woman after she allegedly enrolled herself as a high school student in New Jersey.&nbsp;The police identified the woman as Hyejeong Shin and charged her with submitting a fake identification document to get admission to New Brunswick High School.&nbsp;Shin attended the school for four days after which her real age was found out by the staff.

The school authorities stated that the matter is being investigated by the police, and a review of the enrolment process of the district will be conducted by the authorities.&nbsp;

The issue was raised on Tuesday at a local education board meeting, where the attendees were informed by New Brunswick Public School District Superintendent Aubrey Johnson that Shin was caught faking her identity in the school.&nbsp;

"Last week, by filing some false documents, an adult female posing as a student was able to be enrolled in our high school," said Johnson. He stated that she attended a few classes and also held talks with guidance counsellors, who made efforts to dig into more information about her.&nbsp;

The false age of Shin was then discovered, said Johnson, adding that the police were immediately notified by the school.&nbsp;

Since then, the police have arrested her for submitting a false birth certificate "with the intent to enrol as a juvenile high-school student", stated the New Brunswick Police Department.
