According to authorities, the shooter first killed Bennett at the entrance to the store before "spraying rounds" from the assault weapon down the aisles until Surrett confronted him. The whole thing happened in four steps, starting with the initial 911 calls and ending with the police finding the suspect dead inside the business.

As the shooting continued, police entered the supermarket from the front and rear.

In a phone conversation with AP, Debora Jean Surrett, the ex-wife of the Safeway employee killed in the attack, revealed that Surrett had been a combat engineer in the Army for 20 years.

The report claimed without naming any specifics, that the law enforcement officers, “failed to adhere to their active shooter training, and they failed to prioritize saving the lives of innocent victims over their own safety," AFP reprorted.

"They held at least 20 matches in Meerut. In case of any suspicion that their match venue was under scanner, they would leave the venue and choose another. Some matches were also played in Pune and Jalandhar. We are investigating them,"&nbsp;the officer further added.

The police officer killed in the attack has been identified as ASI Mushtaq Ahmad. The other two police cops were shifted to the hospital and are being treated.&nbsp;

The Police Sergeant who extended his support to the people’s struggle at Maharagama Town on Saturday has been arrested on charges of possessing a sharp weapon while entering the President’s House in Colombo, early this morning. The suspect, who was wearing a pair of sandals and wearing a police uniform, came to enter the President's House and was stopped and searched by the security forces on duty for suspicious behaviour. A sharp weapon was recovered from the possession of the sergeant and was handed over to the Fort Police. The sergeant, attached to the Narahenpita Police Garage, is a resident of Homagama, as reported by Daily Mirror.

Sri Lankans have endured months of medicine and food shortages and electricity blackouts while fuel stations have run out of petrol and diesel despite pleas to Russia and others for discounted oil. Unofficial inflation rates are second only to those of Zimbabwe, making many goods -- if they can be found -- too expensive for many people to afford. The United Nations has warned that Sri Lanka is facing a dire humanitarian crisis, with millions already in need of aid. More than three-quarters of the population had reduced their food intake due to the country's severe food shortages, the UN says.

The UK police has faced a lot of criticism for being “institutionally racist” after officers were found to be sharing images on WhatsApp of two murdered black sisters. In another case, the investigation found that officers joked about rape, killing black children and beating their wives.

&nbsp;“Our conclusion that the dehumanising mindset and overall sense of impunity and entitlement displayed in police WhatsApp groups is a symptom, not a cause, of authoritarian trends in policing, will no doubt make for uncomfortable reading,” Liz Fekete, director of IRR, said.

Growing ‘culture of extremism’ in police forces around Europe, says report

The United States was rocked by yet another mass shooting on Monday as a gunman opened fire on a July 4 Parade in Highland Park, Illinois resulting in the death of six people and injury many more. The police were able to capture the alleged shooter – Robert “Bobby” Crimo – and they said on Tuesday that Crimo was planning the attack for weeks. In the official statement, the US Police said that the gun used in the attack was bought legally by the suspect and in order to hide his facial tattoos and his identity during the time of the attack, Crimo wore women’s clothes and gloves.

"We do believe Crimo pre-planned this attack for several weeks. He brought a high-powered rifle to this parade," police spokesman Chris Covelli told reporters.

"He accessed the roof of a business via a fire escape ladder and began opening fire.

"Crimo was dressed in women's clothing, and investigators do believe he did this to conceal his facial tattoos and his identity during his escape."

During the attack, Crimo fired around 70 rounds of bullets before escaping and blending into the crowd who were trying to escape in panic. It resulted in an almost ten-hour manhunt which ended with Crimo getting arrested in his car by the authorities just outside the Highland Park area.

"Crimo exited the road, he dropped his rifle and he blended in with the crowd," Covelli said.

Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering told CBS News that she knew Crimo when he was a little boy.

"I was his Cub Scout pack leader," she said. "… My heart breaks for everybody in this town. I'm not sure what happened to him to compel him to commit this kind of evil in his hometown, but we have a city that is in deep mourning today, and we are going to take a long time to heal from all of this."

Highland Park: July 4 parade shooter planned attack for weeks, say police

The shooter who opened fire on a Fourth of July parade in a suburb of Chicago, killing at least six people, had shot more than 70 bullets using an AR-15-style weapon. A high-powered rifle "akin to an AR-15" was used by the alleged gunman, who was captured late Monday, to fire shots into a crowd assembled for a parade in Highland Park.

A tight-knit neighbourhood on the shores of Lake Michigan, Highland Park has long attracted the wealthy and the famous.More than 30 others also sustained injuries.

The reason behind the attack has not been identified by investigators despite questioning the suspect and looking over his social media activities, according to Covelli.

"This remains an ongoing police incident with the heavy police presence in the area," said Saanich police chief Dean Duthie at a press conference.

The armed suspects entered the bank around 1800 GMT. The bank is located in the city of Saanich which has a population of about 114,000 outside the British Columbia capital of Victoria, police said in a statement.

"Multiple officers responded to the scene and encountered the armed suspects who fired at police. Two suspects were shot by police and died at the scene," the statement said, adding that no bank employees or members of the public were physically injured.&nbsp;

"It's hard because we have members in the hospital right now suffering from serious injuries," Duthie said.

Three of the six police officers were undergoing a surgery as of late Tuesday. Other three police officers may be released from the hospital.

Earlier in the day, an evacuation order was issued for the buildings surrounding the bank because of a suspected explosive device found in the suspects' vehicle.

The day's events will "shake a lot of people," said Duthie, adding that federal police had been called to assist.

Police said their investigation suggested there were more individuals involved beyond Oliveira and that they were now looking for a man named Jeferson da Silva Lima. 
 
He is the third suspect named by police after Oliveira and his brother, Oseney da Costa, who was taken into custody this week. 
 
"There is an arrest warrant issued by the State Court of Atalaia do Norte against Jeferson da Silva Lima, aka `Pelado da Dinha`, who has not been located at this time," police said. 
 
"The investigations indicate that the killers acted alone, with no bosses or criminal organization behind the crime." 
 
Local indigenous group Univaja, however, which played a leading role in the search, said: "The cruelty of the crime makes clear that Pereira and Phillips crossed paths with a powerful criminal organization that tried at all costs to cover its tracks during the investigation." 
 
It said it had informed the federal police numerous times since late 2021 that there was an organized crime group operating in the Javari Valley. 
 
INA, a union representing workers at Funai, shared that view. 
 
"We all know that violence in the Javari Valley is linked to a wide chain of organized crime," it said in a separate statement. 
 
Police said they were still searching for the boat Phillips and Pereira were traveling in when they were last seen alive. 
 
U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price on Friday called for "accountability and justice," saying that Phillips and Pereira were murdered for supporting conservation of the rainforest and native peoples. 
 
"Our condolences to the families of Dom Phillips and Bruno Pereira... We must collectively strengthen efforts to protect environmental defenders and journalists," Price said on Twitter.

Iza's organization CONAIE tweeted a video of his detention, describing it as "violent, illegal and arbitrary."

Four people who allegedly participated in crimes and one person who is an intellectual author are awaiting a hearing, Interior Minister Patricio Carrillo wrote on Twitter.

Prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump welcomed the decision to charge Schurr with second-degree murder.&nbsp;

"While the road to justice for Patrick and his family has just begun, this decision is a crucial step in the right direction," Crump said. He was quoted by AFP.

Prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump welcomed the decision to charge Schurr with second-degree murder. "While the road to justice for Patrick and his family has just begun, this decision is a crucial step in the right direction," Crump said. He was quoted by AFP. "Officer Schurr must be held accountable for his decision to pursue an unarmed Patrick, ultimately shooting him in the back of the head and killing him -- for nothing more than a traffic stop."
