Cops said that that they “have not heard of anything that large stolen” ever in their careers.

According to reports, thieves had disassembled a 58-foot bridge installed in a field near a creek in&nbsp;Akron, Ohio.

On November 3, locals found that the treated deck boards on the bridge had been removed. And about a week later, the entire structure was stolen from the area.

Police said the bridge was installed in the early 2000s as part of a restoration project, but the city later decided to use it for another project and kept it in the field for later use.

Although it is not clear why the bridge became the victim of their heist, but police suspect that they wanted to sell it to scraps for money.

But little did they know that the material of the bridge, measuring 10-feet wide and six-feet high, is composed of polymer-based materials, which, the police said, is hard to sell and recycle.

The bizarre incident has left the police baffled who were wondering how the thieves managed to get away with it.

“I have not heard of anything that large — albeit it disassembled but actually stolen, I can’t think of anything comparable in my 22 years [at the Akron Police Department],” Lt. Michael Miller told News 5 Cleveland.

“We know it will be met with mystery and questions: who and how and why? All of those are unanswered. It ranks high on the list of mysteries, that’s for sure,” he added.

The value of the structure is estimated to be about $40,000 by the city’s engineering department.

United Arab Emirates' Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, who is keen to become next president of Interpol has been accused of overseeing torture. The allegations may prove an obstacle to his aspirations to head the global police agency.

These allegations of detention and physical abuse have come from Academic Matthew Hedges and a football fan Ali Issa Ahmad. Hedges was imprisoned in UAE for seven months while Ahmad was detained for wearing a Qatar football jersey while on holiday in UAE. Ahmad was quoted in news reports as saying that he still bears physical marks of the torture he underwent.

“He has a supervisory role over prisons, including those who have committed acts of torture, such as guards and interrogators. This all happened on his watch. Interpol can’t countenance this. They can’t say this is good enough – they must call it out,” said Rodney Dixon QC, who is representing Hedges and Ahmad. Dixon was quoted by The Guardian.

Interpol is a supranational organisation that was formed with an aim to aid co-ordination between police systems of various countries. To its member states, Interpol provides investigational support as well as help sharing information on suspects.

Al-Raisi faces several lawsuits in UK, Sweden, Norway and France. Gulf Centre for Human Rights has filed a lawsuit in France where Interpol is headquartered.

At least two people died and several were wounded on Monday in an explosion on a bus near Kampala, police said, two days after a deadly attack in the Ugandan capital claimed by the Islamic State group.

Counterterrorism experts said the attack Friday differed from those in that, according to news reports, the assailant did not harm anyone else in the room, waited for police to arrive and arrest him, and made no attempt to confront the officers.

“It doesn’t feel like anything we have seen before,” said David Videcette, a former counterterrorism detective at Scotland Yard.

Under the terms of the Prevent program, teachers, health workers and others can notify police of potentially radicalised individuals, and authorities then decide whether to intervene. The program is voluntary and does not result in a legal record.

Political leaders expressed outrage about the attack but insisted that it should not endanger a tradition of accessibility and face-to-face contact with members of Parliament that is deeply ingrained in Britain’s political system.

“This is an attack on democracy,” Gordon Brown, a former prime minister, said Sunday in an interview on Sky News, “so the answer cannot be less democracy.”

Still, the killing, at midday and in full public view, has rekindled questions about the security of members of Parliament, who routinely make themselves available to constituents in monthly meetings that are advertised in advance and that can become tense when voters show up with lists of grievances.

Two other lawmakers have been attacked at such meetings in little more than a decade. One, Jo Cox, a Labour Party lawmaker, died after she was stabbed and shot by a right-wing extremist a few days before the Brexit referendum in 2016. The other, Stephen Timms, also a Labour lawmaker, was seriously wounded after being stabbed in the abdomen by an Islamic extremist in 2010.

Britain’s home secretary, Priti Patel, said the government would review security policies for lawmakers, particularly as they relate to constituent meetings, known as surgeries. But she cautioned that these measures should not prevent voters from having face-to-face access to their elected representatives.

“We’re here to serve, we’re here to be accessible to the British public,” Patel said in an interview with the BBC.

Members of the public are usually asked to sign up in advance to attend surgeries, and news reports said the suspect had done so before Friday’s meeting, which was held in a Methodist church in Leigh-on-Sea.

In an interview with Sky News, Patel said the government would also consider tightening laws on social media to cut down on abusive behavior, including by removing the right of people to post material anonymously.

In the neighborhood where the suspect is believed to live, residents expressed bewilderment about why someone would target a lawmaker in a town 40 miles away. A man passing on the street said that his younger brother had attended primary school with the suspect and that he was shocked to hear the reports.

The motive for targeting Amess, who was 69, was not clear. A soft-spoken, well-liked backbencher in the House of Commons, he was known for his staunch support of Brexit and his advocacy for animal welfare.

A Catholic and social conservative, Amess was also a strong supporter of Israel and of an Iranian opposition group, Mujahedeen-e-Khalq, or MEK, which campaigns for the overthrow of Iran’s government.

In London’s close-knit Somali community, reports of the attack stirred shock and unease, with some people voicing anxiety about a backlash. Though many Somali immigrants were displaced in the 1990s by the country’s civil war, the roots of the community in Britain go back generations.

Investigators said they were searching for several gunmen and had not yet determined a motive for the shooting, which claimed the life of a woman in her 20s. Police did not release the woman’s name.

“One minute she’s having a good time,” Linders said. “The next minute, she’s lying in her friends’ arms who are trying to save her life, and she didn’t make it. I can’t think of anything worse.”

Fourteen people were hospitalised with gunshot wounds, said Linders, who described their injuries as not life-threatening. Police were trying to determine if there were other victims who may have left the scene and sought treatment on their own, he said.

The Seventh Street Truck Park did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment Sunday morning. No one answered the phone at the bar, which has a large food hall with food trucks inside.

Later Sunday morning, Mayor Melvin Carter of St. Paul condemned the violence.

“Our community is devastated by the shocking scenes from last night,” Carter said on Twitter. “As our Saint Paul officers work to bring those responsible for these senseless acts into custody, our work to build more proactive and comprehensive public safety strategies is more urgent than ever. We will never accept violence in our community.”

St. Paul is approaching a grim milestone for the number of homicides in Minnesota’s capital city.

Capitol Police investigators have recommended disciplinary action against six police officers for their actions during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, when supporters of Donald Trump stormed the building in an effort to stop the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory.

Three officers were singled out for unbecoming conduct, one officer for failure to comply with directives, one officer for improper remarks and one officer for improper dissemination of information, the Capitol Police said in a statement Saturday.

None of the officers, or details about the recommended penalties, were identified. No criminal charges will be filed, after the U.S. attorney’s office did not find sufficient evidence to do so.

The internal inquiry, which was conducted by the agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility, covered 38 investigations, although investigators failed to identify 12 officers involved in the cases. One investigation, into an unidentified official who was “accused of unsatisfactory performance and conduct unbecoming,” remains open, according to the statement.

The security failures stemming from the Jan. 6 breach has cast scrutiny on the secretive agency, which is responsible for protecting the Capitol complex. Officer Brian Sicknick died in the hospital after fending off the mob, and at least 73 officers were hurt that day after being assaulted with flagpoles, fire extinguishers and hockey sticks, injuries that ranged from bruises to concussions and burns.

Even as the majority of the police force grapple with the trauma of the attack, videos widely circulating on social media appeared to show some officers treating the rioters sympathetically or doing little to stop them from entering the complex.

After the riot, the Capitol Police announced it would open an investigation, with at least six officers suspended with pay at the time. The agency made public the results of its internal investigation Saturday only after sharing details with the Justice Department, which in turn notified the lawyers representing clients charged in connection to the riot.

In its statement, the Capitol Police said it was “committed to accountability when officers fail to meet the standards governed by USCP policies and the congressional community’s expectations” and the six violations “should not diminish the heroic efforts” of most officers who defended the building.

Last month, agency leaders said they had cleared Lt. Michael Byrd, who fatally shot a rioter during the attack, of any wrongdoing after investigators found he had acted lawfully and potentially saved lawmakers, aides and others in the House chamber from harm or death.
