The mother of the deceased has claimed that her daughter was sexually assaulted by the five accused males as she was discovered nude by the police. She said that her daughter told her she would return late from work. "I was waiting for her,” she said. “How can all her clothes come off like that? Police aren’t showing us her body properly. I want justice for my daughter,” she alleged.

"When my brother arrived at the police station, he was told about the death of my daughter. He informed me. My daughter was the only person earning in our family. She was fully clothed but not a single piece of clothing was there on her body, what kind of accident was it," said the deceased's mother.

The accusations, however, have been refuted by the Police. On Monday, the National Commission for Women (NCW) requested the Delhi Police Commissioner for a post-mortem examination of the body to determine if the woman had been molested or raped.

At 4:11 am, a second PCR call was made regarding the girl's body lying on the road. Following that, a search operation for the car was initiated when the police informed the personnel stationed at the pickets. The girl's body was sent to the SGM hospital in Mangolpuri, where it was declared that she had passed away. The five suspects were detained from their homes while the suspected vehicle was also located.

The five men have been identified as Deepak Khanna (26), who drives a Gramin Sewa auto; Amit Khanna (25), who works for a nationalised bank in Uttam Nagar; Krishan (27), who worked at the Spanish Culture Centre in Connaught Place; Mithun (26), a hairdresser at a salon; and, Manoj Mittal (27), a ration dealer in Sultanpuri. The accused reportedly removed the woman's body from beneath the car after the incident and then left the spot, according to the police.

The men have been booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence. Police are probing whether the accused knew the victim was being dragged but didn’t stop to help her. Providing details of the horrific ordeal to ANI news agency, Harendra Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer Delhi said that at the time of the incident, the girl fell off her scooty and was dragged under the car for a long distance.&nbsp;

Police are looking into whether the suspects were aware that the woman was being dragged and yet chose to continue driving. The accused claimed to police that they could not know of the incident&nbsp;since the car's windows were shut and the music was being played loudly.

BNP general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with the former minister and member of the decision-making body of the party Mirza Abbas were arrested from their homes by the police at around 3 am on Friday, head of BNP's media wing Zahiruddin Swapan said.

"They were plainclothes policemen. Alamgir knew their identity. They told him he was being taken away on the order of the high command," said Swapan, adding that the party was unaware of their whereabouts.&nbsp;

Spokesman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Faruq Ahmed said that the police arrested the two leaders over suspicion of obstructing the work of the government and instigating violence during clashes that took place on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Tensions have escalated in the capital in the wake of BNP's planned rally on Saturday, which the party claimed would draw thousands of its supporters from across the country.

The police have stated that no demonstration would be allowed in front of the party office, which the former called a "crime scene" after Molotov cocktails were discovered by them at the location.

According to the local media, police have set up checkpoints on routes coming into the city to stop the activists of the opposition party, travelling from the rural heartlands, from joining the protest.

However, Alamgir, in a press conference, on Thursday had said that the party will go forward with the rally. BNP spokesperson Swapan said that "around 2,000" activists and supporters of the party have been arrested by the police to stop the rally.

However, department spokesperson Robert Rueca made it clear that they are not armed and the police will need some time to come up with the system to effectively train the robots to&nbsp;“contact, incapacitate,&nbsp;or disorient” a dangerous suspect.&nbsp;

Covid protests escalate in China’s Guangzhou, hazmat-suited riot police clash with demonstrators

In 2005, New South Wales Police formed a Strike Force Doreen in order to investigate the five sexual assaults which took place in the city's eastern suburbs.&nbsp;

The police were told by the victims that he would subdue them by using knives or threats and kept his face hidden during the attacks.

Initially the detectives believed there were several men behind these attacks. But after analysing evidence from the 31 sexual assaults and attempted sexual assaults, they concluded it was just one man behind all these incidents.&nbsp;

Owing to the advancement in technology, the investigators were able to link all the incidents to Simms using his DNA.

The link was first found in the early 2000s when women gave similar descriptions of their assailants.

Some of the aspects include 160 to 180 cm in height, dark complexion, brown eyes, wavy hair, and a wide nose. He also wore casual clothes, like tracksuits or hoodies and kept his face covered.&nbsp;

Over the years, he was also known as the “Centennial Park rapist”, “Tracksuit rapist”, the Bondi rapist and the “Bondi Beast” by the media.

The DNA evidence was directly linked to 12 incidents while his modus operandi matched 19 other incidents.

According to reports, his first attack was committed in March 1985 and his last assault on record was in October 2001. &nbsp;

In 2019, police had a breakthrough in the case when they found a familial DNA match in their database and narrowed it down to 324 people which eventually led them to Simms.&nbsp;

“Further investigations and forensic examinations, including additional Y-STR testing, revealed the DNA was linked to a man who died earlier this year, aged 66,” said the NSW police in a statement on Monday.

It said that Strike Force Doreen investigators have since called the victims and advised them the man has been identified but due to his death “no further legal action can be taken.”&nbsp;

A car bomb explosion near a school and close to the police station claimed one life and left at least 30 people injured in southern Thailand on Tuesday.

According to the police, the males&nbsp;were planning to commit a crime before they left. However, what adds more mystery to the case is the fact that a person whom police spoke to in connection with the cases has gone missing since Saturday night.&nbsp;

Prentice added the said person might be suicidal and that no charges had been brought against him&nbsp;up until now.&nbsp;

After years of waiting for redress, they are now sharing their experiences in a demand for recognition. “They have failed to even mention our cases,” Mira, who asked to use a pseudonym, told AFP. “The least they could do is recognise that these incidents happened.” Mira was just 12 years old in 1999 when she was arrested for participating in a cultural outreach programme run by the Maoist rebels. She spent months in custody, during which she said she suffered repeated rapes at the hands of officers who also beat her mercilessly. “I was beyond recognition. The police have cordoned off the area where the attack took place and asked the residents to avoid travelling there.

Germany has witnessed a string of knife attacks this year. In September, A knife-wielding man wounded two people in a southern German town before being fatally shot by police.

At that time, the police said that they were investigating a possible "Islamist or terrorist context".

According to reports, the 30-year-old man attacked several locals "with at least one knife", near the train station in Ansbach, a Bavarian town close to Nuremberg.

Similarly in May, another knife attack was reported on a train in the western&nbsp;German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).

In the attack, six people were injured after the accused started attacking passengers "indiscriminately and arbitrarily."

The police are yet to identify this person who appeared in videos from several of the crime scenes. He said to be dressed all in black and wearing a black cap.

Police said that none of the killings was captured by CCTVs and they have not recovered any firearms.

"We don't have any video of anybody holding any gun or actually committing a crime," Silva told AP news agency on Monday.

The officer said that the available footage and ballistic evidence point to the five killings done by the same person.

All of the victims were reportedly shot by a handgun, but it is not clear whether the same gun was used.

“It definitely meets the definition of a serial killer…What makes this different is the shooter is just looking for an opportunity and unfortunately our victims were alone in a dark area,” Silva was quoted as saying.

According to him, the first shooting occurred on July 8, while the latest one took place on Tuesday around 2 am.

The latest victim was a 54-year-old man who was shot in a residential area just north of downtown. The youngest victim was said to be 21.

Scottish police said on Monday (September 12) that three arrests were made in Edinburgh on Sunday and Monday as Queen Elizabeth's coffin was moved around the city. The arrests were relating to breaches of peace, causing a disturbance.

The third, a 22-year old man arrested on Monday along the route of the procession of the queen's coffin through Edinburgh, has yet to be charged.

Reuters said that it could not independently verify circumstances around the arrests.

Scottish police arrest three over protests post queen's death

Seventy years after he was hanged in a British prison, the family of a man who was wrongfully convicted of murder has received a police apology for the "awful anguish" the miscarriage of justice caused.

In September 1952, at the age of 28, Mahmood Mattan—a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/liverpools-woes-continue-in-goalless-draw-against-everton-chelsea-storm-to-2-1-victory-against-west-ham-512714">British</a> Somali father of three—was hung after being found guilty of killing Lily Volpert in her Cardiff clothing business. To the very end, he insisted on his innocence.

However, his conviction was the first one from the Criminal Case Review Commission to be overturned in the court of appeals in 1998 as a result of his family's tenacious advocacy.

Jeremy Vaughan, chief constable of South&nbsp;Wales&nbsp;police, said: “This is a case very much of its time – racism, bias and prejudice would have been prevalent throughout society, including the criminal justice <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/india-to-be-the-third-largest-economy-by-2029-sbi-report-512665">system</a>.

“There is no doubt that Mahmood Mattan was the victim of a miscarriage of justice as a result of a flawed prosecution, of which policing was clearly a part.”

Detectives from Cardiff City Police, which is now a division of South Wales Police, looked into the March 1952 slaying of Volpert, age 41, whose throat had been sliced at the store near the docks, as per the Guardian.&nbsp;

The investigation "pre-dates the formation of South Wales police," according to Vaughan, but he continued,&nbsp;"It is right and proper that an apology be made on behalf of policing for what went so badly wrong in this case 70 years ago and for the terrible suffering of Mr Mattan's family and all those affected by this tragedy for many years."

“Even to this day, we are still working hard to ensure that racism and prejudice are eradicated from society and policing.”

Laura, Mattan's wife, and their three kids David, Omar, and Mervyn, also known as Eddie, fought for his exoneration for 46 years, but they have all since passed away.

The apology was "far too late for the persons directly affected as they are no longer with us and still, we are yet to hear the words I am/we am sorry," Tanya Mattan, a granddaughter of Mattan, told the BBC.

Within hours of Volpert's murder, Mattan, a former seaman who was originally from Hargeisa in what was then known as British Somaliland, was detained.

An all-white jury found him guilty after a three-day trial in Swansea on the charges.

This was true even though Mattan had a witness-supported alibi and there was no forensic proof.

Mattan had a limited command of English, and during the trial, his own defence attorney referred to him as a "semi-civilized primitive."

The Mattan family received compensation from the Home Office in 2001, but the police had not yet issued an apology.
