'We'll see who goes to play IPL': PCB chief Ramiz Raja makes bold claim as hints at changes in PSL

Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest T20 cricket league in the world at present. Since its inception in 2008, IPL has witnessed tremendous growth with each passing year and has become one of the most-followed sporting events across the globe. Cricketers around the world dream of playing in the IPL, which has over the years produced a number of superstars for several national teams.

IPL has the best of players from all major cricketing nations plying their trade in the tournament. The Indian T20 league has often been compared with the likes of the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Pakistan, however, IPL remains above them all with the sheer amount of talent on display and the huge finances involved.

IPL also remains the only T20 franchise league to feature Indian players which makes it stand out from other T20 leagues around the world. Recently, Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja was asked about the comparisons between IPL and PSL. The Aussie batter said there was no competition between the two leagues as IPL is the best hands down.

"IPL is the strongest in the world. That's hands down. That's not really a contest there (between IPL and PSL) because at the end of the day they have all the world come to them and they also have the only league in the world that has Indian cricketers. So, it ends up becoming the best league in the world," said Khawaja while interacting to media in Pakistan ahead of Australia's first Test against the hosts in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf lost his cool a bit and was spotted slapping his teammate Kamran Ghulam during his team Lahore Qalandars' clash against Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 on Monday (February 21).
Rauf ended up slapping his teammate to remind him of the catch he had dropped earlier in the innings. Ghulam had dropped the catch of Zalmi opener Hazratullah Zazai. Rauf finally managed to get a wicket in the same over after Zazai's opening partner Haris was caught by Fawad Ahmed.

For the unversed, Kohli has never played any competitive cricket at the senior level on Pakistan soil. In fact, he has only been part of a couple of bilateral series between the two Asian giants since his debut; due to the political tension between both countries.

Notably, Kohli is struggling to cross the triple-figure mark at the international level since late 2019. His last three-figure knock came against Bangladesh in India's maiden day-night Test in November 2019. Someone spreading love: Shoaib Akhtar lauds PSL fan for hoping for Virat Kohli's hundred in Pakistan

Virat Kohli hasn't scored an international ton since late 2019. The 33-year-old's last triple-figure knock came during India's maiden day-night Test versus Bangladesh and since then, he hasn't managed to score a hundred across formats.

While Kohli has fifty-plus scores in white-ball formats, he hasn't done anything extra ordinary in the ongoing limited-overs home series versus Kieron Pollard-led West Indies.
Australian cricketer James Faulkner left the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 on Saturday (February 18) and returned home due to non-payment by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Faulkner took to Twitter to reveal PCB and his franchise Quetta Gladiators have been continuously lying to him and have not 'honoured' his contractual agreement and payments.

Faulkner termed PCB's treatment of him as a 'disgrace' as he apologised to Pakistani fans for leaving the tournament midway. Responding to his accusations, PCB has termed Faulkner's allegations as 'baseless' and have also banned the Australian from taking part in the PSL for life.

As PCB faces criticism from all corners after Faulkner's allegations against the cricket board, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has come out to defend the organisation. Afridi slammed Faulkner for levelling 'baseless' allegations against the board and claimed the payments of the players have never been delayed in the competition.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest T20 cricket competition in the world and has players from across the globe ply their trade for the franchises in the competition. Besides being one of the most successful franchise cricket leagues in the world, it is also one of the richest tournaments in the sport.

The IPL has over the years witnessed tremendous growth in terms of quality and viewership as it remains a dream for cricketers around the globe to take part in the cash-rich league. Since its inception in 2008, IPL has played a massive role in the rise of several young cricketers who have gone on to become world-beaters for their respective countries and have become superstars in world cricket.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) - the domestic T20 competition of Pakistan has often been compared with the IPL despite there being a vast difference in the quality of the two leagues. Over the years, several former Pakistan cricketers have tried to draw comparisons between the IPL and PSL and the latest to join the bandwagon is former Pakistan fast bowler Aaqib Javed.

Javed believes PSL is a better league compared to the IPL and is the most interesting league in the world due to the nature of pitches in Pakistan. Compared to PSL, Javed said IPL has only flat pitches and the quality of bowling is low.

"This [PSL] is the most interesting league in the world, if there are no interruptions due to Covid-19 or anything else, because of the nature of the pitches. For instance, Lahore's pitch has some support for the bowlers, whereas you see higher scores in Karachi," Javed was quoted as saying by samaa.tv by PTV Sports.

"On the other hand if you look at IPL, there is only one type of cricket being played there due to extremely flat surfaces and low-quality bowling," added the former Pakistan pacer.

The comments didn't go down well with cricket fans on Twitter, who lashed out at Javed for his 'low-quality bowling' remark on the IPL and schooled him. Check out some of the tweets -

Nonetheless, Pakistan legend Javed Miandad is firmly against the thought and encouraged the board to scrap such plans. "This is not the time to play cricket, it's time to save lives. In these times of crisis, we should be more focused on saving lives rather than playing cricket. The whole world has been affected by the coronavirus. India, where the World Cup was supposed to take place, is also severely affected by the epidemic," Javed Miandad told CricketPakistan. "They are risking the lives of several individuals for their own financial gains. If it was in my hands, I would not take the big risk of organizing the remaining PSL matches. If they hold this event and face problems, then who will be responsible?” he added. Reigning champions Karachi Kings drove the points table dependent on their predominant net run rate before the competition was suspended. Upwards of four teams were bolted on six points and it was hard to pick a champion side in the opposition. Following the Zimbabwe visit, Pakistan don't have any worldwide tasks up until July, when they face England for three T20Is and three ODIs. The PCB is hoping to continue the Pakistan Super League inside now and in July. In any case, it has effectively pulled in certain downers, with Javed Miandad immovably against the resumption of the league.

After the postponement of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6, franchise owners are set to present a list of grievances to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani on Monday during a virtual meeting. According to reports, PSL 6 franchise owners are expected to seek a refund of their submitted fees if the tournament cannot be completed in future. While PCB has assured that they will look to find time to complete the postponed PSL 6, the packed calendar makes things tricky for the organisers. The PSL franchise owners have been left upset and disappointed by the approach of PCB CEO Wasim Khan, who reportedly was pushed on the back foot during a meeting as he shared the responsibility of mismanagement with a wide range of shareholders during the tournament. ALSO READ: Denying MS Dhoni to play his potential last IPL in Chennai: Franchises left unhappy over scheduling Whereas, the PCB has also formed a two-member fact-finding committee panel that has also left the owners unhappy. While the panel has been asked to investigate the breaches in the Standard Operating Protocol (SOPs) following the postponement of PSL 6, the owners have been left fuming as they were not taken into consideration while finalising the move. The franchise owners are also extremely concerned about financial losses. Notably, most foreign players have been paid 70 per cent of their fees despite featuring in four or five matches. Meanwhile, it is not yet clear whether any amount will be retrieved from the players who are not willing to participate in the tournament further.
