On Thursday (January 05), Asian Cricket Council chief, and BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah announced the cricketing calendar for 2023 and 2024. In a tweet, he wrote, "Presenting the @ACCMedia1 pathway structure &amp; cricket calendars for 2023 &amp; 2024! This signals our unparalleled efforts &amp; passion to take this game to new heights. With cricketers across countries gearing up for spectacular performances, it promises to be a good time for cricket."

However, Shah's announcement didn't please Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi. He, thus, took&nbsp;a dig at ACC chief for 'for unilaterally presenting ACC structure and calendars 2023-24' and wrote in response, "Thank you Jay Shah for unilaterally presenting ACC structure and calendars 2023-24 especially relating to Asia Cup 2023 for which Pakistan is the event host. While you are at it, you might as well present structure and calendar of our PSL 2023! A swift response will be appreciated."

The ACC, in a statement, has now&nbsp;called&nbsp;Sethi's claims baseless and revealed that they had already emailed&nbsp;the PCB&nbsp;about the calendar of Asian cricket on December 22. "It has come to our knowledge that PCB Chairman Mr. Najam Sethi has made a comment on the ACC President unilaterally taking the decision on finalising the calendar and announcing the same. The ACC wants to clarify that it has followed established due process. The calendar was approved by its Development Committee and Finance &amp; Marketing Committee in a meeting held on December 13th, 2022," the ACC said.

Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah -- also the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief -- confirmed that this year's Asia Cup will be at a neutral venue as India won't travel to Pakistan -- where the edition is scheduled to be held. It&nbsp;raised eyebrows and saw the then Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja lash out at Shah.&nbsp;

A lot was said and written as Pakistan have threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup, to be held in India later this year, if the Asia Cup is held at a neutral venue. Many also backed India's stance of not touring Pakistan, following the 2008 Mumbai blasts, whereas some felt Shah shouldn't have spoken about the Asia Cup when addressing the media at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) in October.

Later, Sethi also slammed Shah in an exclusive interaction with Sports Tak. In the interview, he slammed BCCI saying 'it is an independent board' and not reliant on the government to finalise whether to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and feels if India doesn't want to visit their neighbouring country for the continental tournament, Pakistan also have a right to ask for the ODI World Cup to be held elsewhere.

Sethi asserted, "Earlier also Mr Jay Shah gave a statement in which my predecessor Mr Ramiz Raja was not happy with that and expressed disappointment. He announced before that we (India) won't play against Pakistan in Pakistan." He added, "So the thing is on one side you want Pakistan to come and play the World Cup (2023) in India. On the other end, you say we don't want to go to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup. Tomorrow when the Champions Trophy will be played in Pakistan, won't you play that as well?."

While the Asia Cup has been confirmed to be held in September, there is nothing official regarding which country will host the event. Moreover, Pakistan have threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, if they are deprived of hosting rights for the continental event. He further asserted that the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Jonny Bairstow&nbsp;can counter spin better than some of the subcontinental players. "You see a lot of reverse sweeps, paddle shots and sweeps, all of these new strokes using their feet. I think that has revolutionised the way we look at cricket in the subcontinent. IPL has helped a lot in terms of exposure as well," Sangakkara said on Star Sports.

'England, Australia, NZ have...': Sangakkara hints Asian giants India, Pakistan & SL not favourites for ODI WC

PCB’s new interim chief selector Shahid Afridi aims to make a few changes to the setup before his tenure ends. The newly-appointed boss of the selection committee is planning to bring in the change that BCCI and even the English Cricket Board brought in some time back. Addressing the media on Saturday, December 31st , Afridi said he wants to improve bench strength by making two separate teams.

"I want to create two teams for Pakistan before my tenure ends in order to improve bench strength," Afridi said.

Having lost two Test series at home last year – one against Australia (0-1) and other against England (0-3), Pakistan cricket struggled to leave a mark in the longer-format particularly. Afridi says the need to increase and improve the bench strength is upon him now.

As the New Zealand series was just about to begin, Najam Sethi – the new PCB chief, appointed Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi as the interim chief selector with&nbsp;Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum as members of the committee.

Upon taking up the role, Afridi said he approached players and spoke to them individually. It was then he realised that there was a lack of communication which was hampering the selection dilemma in the team. Also, it was earlier reported&nbsp;that out-of-favour opener Fakhar Zaman and batter Harris Sohail are also added to the list of probables for New Zealand ODIs.

Speaking on all of this in detail. Shahid said, “I feel like there was a lack of communication in the past. I got to know about the issues of players by speaking to them individually. I directly spoke to Haris and Fakhar and took their test. I believe there should be a direct line of communication between the players and the selection committee."

Meanwhile, after the first Test against the Kiwis ended in a draw, Babar Azam-led team will now aim for a win in the next match at the National Stadium in Karachi, that starts on January 2nd.

Stuart Fox,&nbsp;Melbourne Cricket Council (MCC) chief&nbsp;alongside the Victorian Government recently inquired about the possibility of hosting both India and Pakistan for a three-match Test series at the 'G'.

The idea that seemed great on paper doesn't really concern the BCCI members. Speaking on the topic, a BCCI source told ANI,&nbsp;"No such plans for India and Pakistan Test series in the future or in any country, if someone has such kind of wish keep it to yourself."

It was during the recently-concluded Boxing Day Test between Australia and South Africa at the iconic MCG that Stuart Fox confirmed his interest in the same while speaking with SEN Radio on the sidelines.&nbsp;

In 2022, both teams met three times - twice during the Asia Cup in Dubai where both won a game each, and lastly during the T20 World Cup at the MCG - where India won the contest on the final ball.

However, after BCCI refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, the PCB has threatened to boycott the 50-over World Cup in India, scheduled for October-November next year.

Speaking on Duniya News, the 60-year-old Ramiz has once again lashed out at the BCCI. He has urged the new PCB management to not fulfil each and every demand of the BCCI and show some leadership, which he claims was evident during his stint. 
 
He&nbsp;said, "One positive from my stint as a chairman was that I provided leadership. If you remember, New Zealand had left, and we told them that what you did was unfair. The England team refused to come; we spoke with them, following which they played 7 T20Is instead of 5, two extra. The ECB staff visited Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium; they came to my office and apologised. Similarly, Australia also visited."

There should be a decision on the matter, as the tournament was given to Pakistan, so how can it be shifted to a neutral venue without consulting us or the ACC members."

This is no way to treat the cricketers."
