Pakistan has produced some big names in world cricket, especially in the pace department. Shoaib Akhtar is one of the most popular names in the cricketing fraternity who helped Pakistan win several games with his pace and bounce. During his playing days, he troubled many batters and had intense face-offs with some iconic players such as Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Steve Waugh, etc.

Akhtar had an action-packed career, full of ups and downs, and ended with a total of 444 international wickets from 46 Tests, 163 ODIs and 15 T20Is. He remains vocal on various aspects of the game to date and recently made a big claim.

Speaking to The Guardian, the 47-year-old asked the interviewer when he was the happiest in life. After getting response from the journo who said, "Erm, I’m not sure. The birth of my child?", Akhtar replied, "Right, increase that by a thousand and it’ll be somewhere near what it feels like to bowl truly fast. If you get a wicket after all that effort, when the ball hits the stumps, the sound of it goes inside your soul and explodes like an atom bomb. That’s true happiness. Every time I turn on the TV, I say: ‘Is there anyone out there who can step up? Please take this record away from me,’ I’ll be the first to fly out and shake them by the hand." He added, "Had I been the fittest guy, I would’ve been the greatest ever."

Pakistan great Wasim Akram has made a big revelation on his former captain Saleem Malik. Rift between Malik and Akram surfaced several times during their playing days and now Akram has made some shocking revelations in his biography "'Sultan: A Memoir".
EXPLAINED: What happens if rain washes out T20 WC final?

As plenty of matches have been impacted by rain in the ongoing T20 WC in Australia, there are high chances of weather playing spoilsport at the MCG for the finale as well. If rain hampers the proceedings with no play possible on Sunday, then the match will be held the next day; i.e. on Monday (November 14). However, if rain leads to no play in the reserve day as well, then Pakistan and England will be declared joint winners.

ICC rules and play extension

As per the tournament rules, the finale must have at least ten overs to be bowled by each team in order to reach a conclusion and adjudge a winner. In addition, there is 30 minutes of extra time on cards for the summit clash to be concluded on Sunday. Moreover, the finalists will also get an additional two hours of extra time on the reserve day for the match's completion.

WHAT THE CAPTAINS SAID

After Pakistan's win over NZ, skipper Babar Azam said in the post-match presentation, "Thanks to the crowd. We feel like we're playing at home. Got a good start with the first 6 overs with the ball. Later on the ball didn't come on well. Fast bowlers finished well. We planned before going that we'll utilise the powerplay. He's a young guy and showing his aggression (Haris). He's playing very well. We're going to enjoy this moment. But at the same time have focus on the final."

Following a big win in the second semi-final, England's captain Buttler stated, "I think the character we have shown since then (England's loss against Ireland) - it has been amazing. We came here very excited, there was a very good feeling. Everyone from 1 to 11 - stood up today. We always want to start fast and aggressively. Rashid was batting at 11, that's incredible to know that we have such depth. Hales used the dimensions well and he has shown his form. He was brilliant today. It's important to enjoy this, it was a brilliant performance from us. I think we need to give special credit to Jordan, to bowl 3 overs at the death coming into the semi-final, it was a tough job. He handled the pressure towards the end pretty well, especially bowling against a world-class player like Hardik Pandya."

If rain hampers the proceedings with no play possible on Sunday, then the match will be held the next day; i.e. on Monday (November 14). However, if rain leads to no play in the reserve day as well, then Pakistan and England will be declared joint winners. ICC rules and play extension As per the tournament rules, the finale must have at least ten overs to be bowled by each team in order to reach a conclusion and adjudge a winner. In addition, there is 30 minutes of extra time on cards for the summit clash to be concluded on Sunday. Moreover, the finalists will also get an additional two hours of extra time on the reserve day for the match's completion. But at the same time have focus on the final." Following a big win in the second semi-final, England's captain Buttler stated, "I think the character we have shown since then (England's loss against Ireland) - it has been amazing.

T20 WC 2022: Not Babar Azam! Ricky Ponting names key player for Pakistan ahead of semi-final vs New Zealand

After Pakistan's win over Bangladesh in their last league stage encounter in the T20 World Cup, the Babar Azam-led Men in Green entered the semi-finals of the mega event in Australia. Having a topsy-turvy ride, the 2009 winners finally made it to the knockouts and will now face 2021 runners-up New Zealand in the first semi-final, on Wednesday (November 09) at the SCG, Sydney.

Post the five-wicket win over Bangladesh, Pakistan Cricket's official handle shared few dressing room videos for fans. While the videos have become an instant hit on the social media platform, former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram isn't impressed and has asked for such team talks to not be shared online.

"If I was Babar, I would get hold of that guy who is making a video. Sometimes, certain things are personal. I am all for social media, players interacting with their fans and everything. But I have not seen any other team do it in this World Cup? So yeah, the urge to get extra numbers (followers, likes), cut it down. This is too much," Akram said on A-Sports.

"There are recordings taking place all the time. Imagine if I am sitting and not knowing that someone is recording - a message that I want to give my team. Just tell him, 'Guys, relax for two days. Do it some other place but not dressing room," he further pointed out.

After Pakistan's win over Bangladesh in their last league stage encounter in the T20 World Cup, the Babar Azam-led Men in Green entered the semi-finals of the mega event in Australia.

🗣️ Skipper @babarazam258 speaks to his team after Pakistan qualify for the #T20WorldCup semifinals 🔊#WeHaveWeWill pic.twitter.com/CkmpJCj6o3 — Pakistan Cricket (@TheRealPCB) November 6, 2022 × 🗣️ Encouraging words from 🇵🇰 team mentor Matthew Hayden following the win over Bangladesh that sealed our spot in the semi-finals 🔊#WeHaveWeWill | #T20WorldCup pic.twitter.com/OgolOwGfGs — Pakistan Cricket (@TheRealPCB) November 6, 2022 × ALSO READ | He hasn't given me confidence: Kapil Dev names star Indian player whose hasn't impressed him so far in T20 WC On the other hand, Akram's former teammate and bowling great Waqar Younis also joined in and mentioned, "I 100 percent agree with you.
On Sunday (November 06), Pakistan were given a lifeline in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition as the Netherlands defeated South Africa and eliminated Temba Bavuma & Co. from the semi-finals race. With the Proteas bowing out from the semis race and India ensuring a spot in the last four, Pakistan had a chance to enter the semis with a win over Bangladesh in their last league stage encounter.

Babar Azam-led Men in Green didn't waste the opportunity presented with SA's elimination and went on to beat Bangladesh by five wickets in an intense battle at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on Sunday afternoon. After opting to bat first, Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangla Tigers only managed a modest 127 for 8, with Shaheen Afridi returning with 4 for 22. In reply, the one-time winners were stretched a bit but eventually went past the finish line courtesy of Mohammad Haris' 18-ball 31 and Shan Masood's 14-ball 24 not out.

After this win, Pakistan will now face 2021 runners-up New Zealand in the first semi-final at the SCG, Sydney on Wednesday (November 09). After their entry into the semis, team mentor Matthew Hayden shared an inspiring speech for Babar-led Pakistan and issued a warning to other teams. Speaking in a video posted by PCB, Hayden said, "There was that kind of thinking that potentially it was going to be a different result but the moment that Pakistan cricket fires off with intent and starts to reveal its teeth, they become a real threat. There will be no one in this world, in this competition that would want to face us right now, Not One! They thought that they got rid of us. Now, they're not going to get rid of us."

'You are big chokers': Shoaib Akhtar thanks South Africa as Pakistan qualify for T20 World Cup semis

On Thursday (November 03), former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was injured after a firing during his 'real freedom' rally in Wazirabad. The shocking incident took place at the Zafarali Khan Chowk. As per video footage on Geo TV, the former Pakistan cricket captain suffered three-four gunshots in his right leg. While the assassination attempt has left the entire country in a state of shock, the party officials confirmed that Imran is safe. Nonetheless, there is one causality as one person is reported to have been killed in the firing.

Many compared the attack with the former prime minister Benazir Bhutto being assassinated at a rally back in 2007. Since the incident, reactions have been pouring in from all corners. Pakistan's cricket fraternity also joined in with the likes of captain Babar Azam, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram and many others sharing their reactions on Twitter.

After leading Pakistan to a much-needed win over South Africa in a crucial Super 12 clash in the T20 World Cup, Babar took to his official Twitter handle and wrote, "Strongly condemn this heinous attack on @ImranKhanPTI. Babar Azam, Shoaib Akhtar and others react after attack on ex-PM Imran Khan during long march

The T20 World Cup 2022 edition continues to live up to expectations with each passing day. After India beat Bangladesh on Wednesday (November 02), Pakistan faced an unbeaten South Africa on Thursday (November 03), at the SCG, Sydney, and emerged on top by 33 runs (DLS method) to earn two vital points. With this win, the Babar Azam-led Men in Green remain alive in the race for the semi-finals. They now have four points, from an equal number of games, and will play Bangladesh (who are also alive in the race for the top four) on Sunday (November 06).

Batting first, Babar & Co. were off to a disastrous start. The likes of Babar, Md Rizwan, Shan Masood and Mohammad Haris departed for cheap. While Haris, playing his first game in the tournament, began on a positive note and took on the SA pacers, he was dismissed for 28 as the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi and Wayne Parnell were among the wickets. At 43 for 4, Pakistan had their back against the wall. However, Iftikhar Ahmed -- who scored a 50 versus India -- continued to attack and played some lusty shots, using the pace and dimensions of the ground effectively.

Iftikhar stitched a vital 52-run fifth-wicket partnership with Mohammad Nawaz (22-ball 28) to shift the momentum in Pakistan's favour before getting together with Shadab Khan. The duo were involved in a stunning 82-run stand, filled with 10 boundaries, and took the score beyond the 170-run mark. Shadab slammed a 20-ball fifty and returned for 52 (22) whereas Iftikhar's 35-ball 51, laced with 3 fours and 2 sixes, took Men in Green to an impressive total.

Chasing a daunting 186, SA lost Quinton de Kock soon as the left-hander was dismissed by Shaheen Afridi. After losing Rilee Rossouw for 7, skipper Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram stitched a handy 49-run partnership before Shadab removed both the set batters ahead of a brief rain break. At the time of resumption, the Proteas were 69-4 in nine overs but the revised target meant they had to chase 142 in 14 overs; requiring 73 off 30 balls.

Heinrich Klaasen and Tristan Stubbs started off with some big shots but Pakistan bowlers produced a masterclass of death bowling in the final five overs as wickets fell at regular intervals. Shaheen and Shadab shared five wickets whereas Md Wasim Junior, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf leaked only 13 runs in the last 18 balls. Eventually, SA managed only 106 for 9, losing by 33 runs (DLS method).

With this win, Pakistan remain alive in the competition but still need to beat Bangladesh in their last game. Meanwhile, SA remain at the second spot whereas India are at the top in Group 2. Both India and SA are closer to the semi-finals but still need to win their remaining encounters -- versus Zimbabwe and Netherlands, respectively. For Pakistan, they will hope to beat the Bangla Tigers and pray for India-SA to falter as well.

South Africa: Temba Bavuma & Co. are in a very good position; and were unbeaten in the tournament till losing to Pakistan. With two wins and one no-result, the Proteas have five points. Even if they lose one of their remaining two games, SA should go ahead but their final positioning can change.

T20 World Cup 2022: EXPLAINED! Qualification scenario for Group 2 teams after India beat Bangladesh

Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram reacted to former India opener Gautam Gambhir's recent explosive remarks on Pakistan's current captain Babar Azam. Gambhir lashed out at Babar over his 'selfish captaincy' after his team's poor show in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022.

Pakistan have had a disastrous start in the tournament this year and are currently reeling at the fifth spot on the Group 2 points table after just a solitary win from their first three matches.
"In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself. If nothing goes according to your plan, you should have sent Fakhar Zaman up the batting order. This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team," Gambhir said on Star Sports.

Wasim Akram reacts to Gautam Gambhir's 'selfish' remark on Babar Azam's captaincy in T20 World Cup

During Pakistan's Netherlands face-off in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, in Perth on October 30, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Gautam Gambhir made heads turn with his remark on Babar Azam. The Pakistan captain has been slammed left, right and centre following the Men in Green's dismal run so far in the competition.

When the one-time winners' playing XI didn't feature Fakhar Zaman, who is battling injury concerns in the run-up to the T20 WC, Babar was heavily criticised. Even when Fakhar was roped in for the clash versus the Dutch line-up, he batted at No. 3 whereas Pakistan continued to open with Babar and Md Rizwan, who have been criticised for their slow starts.

The consistency with which he has scored, very few Pakistan batters have. He may not have risen to the expectations which is why he is facing some flak."

It will be interesting to see if Gambhir reacts to Afridi's comments. Babar-led Pakistan will play South Africa in a crucial Super 12 clash on Thursday (November 03) in Sydney.

'You need to....': Shahid Afridi reacts to Gautam Gambhir's 'selfish' remark on Pakistan captain Babar Azam

Pakistan find themselves at a precarious position in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition. After three encounters in the Super 12, the Men in Green have won just one game and lost two thrilling contests (including one against Zimbabwe).

Opening their campaign versus India, the Babar Azam-led side lost on the final ball whereas they fell short versus Zimbabwe as well, once again losing on the last delivery of a low-scoring thriller. With two more games to go, Pakistan need a miracle to qualify ahead. Amid their T20 WC woes, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Gautam Gambhir has slammed Babar and called him a selfish captain.

"In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself; if nothing goes according to your plan, you should have sent Fakhar Zaman up the batting order. This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish. It is easy for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team," said Gambhir in commentary during the Pakistan-Netherlands game, which the former won by six wickets in pursuit of a paltry 92 on October 30 (Sunday) in Perth.

Pakistan didn't pick Fakhar Zaman for their opening two games and when they included him for the Dutch encounter, he batted at No. 3 with a struggling Babar still retaining his opening slot, with Md Rizwan. In the recent past, both Rizwan and Babar have been slammed for their low strike rate and similar playing styles, which many believe are hurting Pakistan's progress with the bat.
