Firstly, he expressed his disappointment over being at the receiving end on two straight occasions, during the 2021 edition – when Matthew Wade smashed him for three sixes to win the semis game for Australia, and then following year in Down Under, when Afridi got injured at a time when his team needed him the most.

Afridi said had he remained fit and could finish his quota of four overs, who knows, Pakistan could be the one lifting the trophy.

Injuries can happen at any time," Afridi told ESPNCricinfo.

Shaheen, who suffered a knee injury in July during the Sri Lanka series last year, remained away from the game for three months before rushing himself into getting fit for the T20 World Cup. Things didn’t work out there much, as following the final’s incident, he again missed the huge chunk of home season – including Test series against Pakistan and the New Zealand ODIs and T20Is.

Though he returned during PSL this season, helping his team win the title for the second straight time, Afridi revealed his knee is now 100% fine and that, with time, he will also get better.

PCB, who earlier had named former South African coach, Mickey Arthur as the team director, have announced the signing of fellow Protean Andrew Puttick as the new batting coach on a two-year contract. While the strength and conditioning coach, Drikus Saaiman and physiotherapist, Cliffe Deacon, will continue in their roles, a PCB press release said.

Under Bradburn, Pakistan fared well against the Kiwis – winning the ODIs 4-1 and drawing the T20I series 2-2. Babar Azam-led side also claimed the number one ranking in ODIs for the first time during that period only.

"I am delighted to name Grant Bradburn as the head coach of our men's side. Bradburn joins the side with a plethora of coaching experience. After having worked with our men's side before and at the National Cricket Academy, he understands our culture and philosophy of cricket well and is an ideal candidate to take our team forward," PCB chief Najam Sethi said on his appointment, as quoted in Cricbuzz.

"After the announcement of Mickey Arthur as team director, Bradburn's appointment is another step in our endeavours of putting together a highly qualified coaching panel so our players can benefit from their experiences and dominate world cricket in all three formats," Sethi added.

Upon getting picked as the new boss, Bradburn said he's looking forward to working with such a talented group of players, and knowing their culture from close quarters would help him get the team to be better in all aspects moving forward.

"It is a great honour for me to work with the highly talented and skilful side like Pakistan as a head coach. We have been working hard on raising our game and are eager to showcase our growing skills. Mickey Arthur and I are excited to support, challenge and develop our players. The New Zealand series has been valuable to get game time and create clarity of roles, culture and brand to win,” Bradburn said.

In 2021, the Virat Kohli-led Men in Blue bowed out of the Super 10 round whereas India, under Rohit Sharma, reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 WC but crashed out with a ten-wicket loss at the hands of eventual winners England. Since last year's T20 WC, in Australia, India have been led by Hardik Pandya as Rohit, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and few other seniors have not featured in the shortest format, to concentrate on the longer formats due to the upcoming&nbsp;WTC final, in June, and ODI World Cup later this year.

The ICC revealed that India's rating points have improved to 267 whereas Jos Buttler's England are on 259. "India had a below-par T20 World Cup in 2021 but bounced back with a semi-final appearance in 2022. The Men in Blue have been terrific in T20Is since May 2020, having lost just the one bilateral series (against Sri Lanka in 2021), emerging victorious in 13 other series while one ended in a draw (against South Africa in 2022)," the ICC said.

Pakistan locked horns with Afghanistan in the just-concluded three-match T20I series in Sharjah. A second-stringed Pakistan side, under Shadab Khan, lost the series 2-1 on Monday (March 27). If you look at stats, if you lose 3 wickets in powerplay, you lose 70 percent of the games. I think there's nervousness - they're playing for the first time for Pakistan (the new batters). Recently, Babar opened up on his heartfelt tweet for Kohli during&nbsp;an interview with ICC Digital Insider. He revealed, "As a sportsperson, anyone can go through such a time. At that time I thought maybe if I tweet it might give someone help and confidence. See, as a player, you try to back every sportsman in a difficult time." Babar added, "It is in difficult times that you get to know what you are thinking about others. At that time, I thought I should have done that, and maybe something positive would come out of it. Something that can be a plus point."

Kohli moved past his poor run of form immediately after Babar's tweet. He ended the Asia Cup as the second-highest run-getter (276 runs), was in superb form in T20 World Cup (with three half-centuries) and has scored three international tons since then (two in ODIs, one in T20Is). He will be eager to break his Test-century drought during the ongoing home series versus Australia. Babar, on the other hand, is leading Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2023.

Losing the toss, India rode on comeback man Ravindra Jadeja's 5 for 47 to rattle the Pat Cummins-led Aussies for 177 and piled up 400 courtesy of skipper Rohit Sharma's 120, Jadeja's 70 and Axar Patel's 84 before dismissing the visitors for 91 in their second essay to win by an innings and 132 runs. After India's thumping win, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has lavished huge praise on Jadeja and feels 'world cricket hasn't seen an all-rounder like him'. Speaking on his Youtube channel, he said, "World cricket hasn't seen an all-rounder like Ravindra Jadeja. He dominates every department, be it batting, bowling or fielding. He is one such player that the captain will want to have in the playing XI every single time. He constantly creates pressure on the opposition."

"He didn't play cricket for around six months, but still kept himself in good shape and worked on his fitness. It is never easy to make a return, that too against a team like Australia. It was outstanding that he was able to come up with such a dominating performance in his comeback match against a big team," added Kaneria.

Ball was spinning, going straight, keeping low. Kept telling myself to bowl at the stumps - if they make mistake, I have a chance. I look to keep things simple. Try not to change things with my batting. It's a crucial number - 5, 6, 7."
