After New Zealand had abandoned Pakistan tour right before the toss of the tour-opener was set to take place on September 17, there were severe criticism of the NZC. However, looks like bygones are now bygones as the New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have reached a conclusion as the Black Caps are set to tour Pakistan twice in late 2022-early 2023 and also return for more limited-overs fixtures in April 2023.

The official Twitter handle of the PCB shared the development with one and all on Monday (December 20) and wrote, "Brace yourselves! New Zealand to tour Pakistan for two Tests and three ODIs in December/January 2022-23 and will return in April 2023 for 10 white-ball matches. Exciting, right?"

Then, the Kiwis will again return to the Asian country for ten more limited-overs fixtures, in the form of five ODIs and equal number of T20Is. Thus, the fans who were deprived of NZ-Pak rivalry earlier this year will have plenty of action between the two cricketing giants in the coming future.

For the unversed, Pakistan will also host Australia and England in their backyard in the near future and have been granted the hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy as well.

Babar Azam-led Pakistan had a terrific run in the T20 World Cup 2021 edition. However, the Men in Green couldn't replicate their 2009 edition's success and bowed out of the mega event in the second semi-final, losing to eventual winners Australia by 5 wickets.

Being asked to bat first in the semi-final encounter, in Dubai, Pakistan posted a competitive 176-4 riding on half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman. However, Australia managed to edge past the Men in Green courtesy Marcus Stoinis-Matthew Wade's unbeaten 81-run sixth-wicket stand. With 20 needed off 10 balls, Wade (41) was given a reprieve as Hasan Ali failed to hold onto a catch before Wade-Stoinis (40*) took Australia home.

Ahead of the Bangla Tigers' fifth encounter in the ongoing Abu Dhabi T10 league, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Ali backed Hasan Ali as the speedster was trolled mercilessly for dropping Wade's catch, leading to Pakistan's elimination. Thus, Amir hit back at trolls and reflected back on Pakistan's 'proud campaign'.

Speaking in a virtual presser, Amir told www.wionnews.com, "See, one should see in what scenario we went to play the T20 WC. First, the NZ tour got cancelled and then the team management resigned. They were playing in the UAE during IPL 14, however, they couldn't perform. So, the ones who were trolling are ones who don't understand cricket. Ones who understand will never troll."

He further added, "Catches are always dropped. Even I have dropped quite a few. That catch (Hasan Ali's drop) wasn't the reason for us losing the semi-finals. We still had to defend 18 to defend off 9 balls so it was due to bad bowling. Yes, there was pressure and Hasan is a good fielder, hence, he usually fields in the hotspots.

You can't troll this team. There were different match-winners in every game so it was a huge achievement and a proud campaign. We should only give credit to the Pakistan team."

Babar-led Pakistan defeated India for the first time in WC history and topped their group (Pool B) being unbeaten before losing the semi-final clash.

Pakistan's cricket board chief Ramiz Raja has given an update on scheduling India vs Pakistan matches outside of ICC events. The South Asian countries neighbouring countries square off only in the multi-nation ICC tournaments as the bilateral series between the two has been suspended due to political reasons.

India and Pakistan last met in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE and Oman, when India lost the match by 10 wickets. India last hosted Pakistan in a bilateral series in 2013.

During a media interaction on Wednesday (November 17), Raja said that there's no clarity over holding a bilateral series, however, the two countries could possibly be involved in a tri-series.

"Bilateral series between Pakistan and India seems unlikely at this moment but we can hope to see both teams in action in a tri-nation series perhaps," said Raja.

Recent rumours suggested that India might pull out from the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is will be hosted by Pakistan and will be the first International Cricket Council (ICC) event hosted by Pakistan since it shared the 1996 World Cup with India and Sri Lanka.

"It is not an easy task to pull out of an international tournament. Once the rights are awarded, these feuds between different cricketing boards are also considered while making the decision. In my opinion, India will not pull out," he added.

"I have good working relations with Sourav Ganguly and we have good communication; discussing cricket on a global stage and it can be improved. When two former cricketers are managing things then they focus on cricketing matters and it becomes an easier thing from an administrative standpoint," he further added.

Pakistan to host Champions Trophy 2025, India to stage three ICC tournaments till 2031

Team India bowed out of the T20 World Cup 2021 edition, being held in the UAE, in the Super 12 round after failing to win their first two encounters. Despite a late surge, with three back-to-back wins, Virat Kohli-led India gave fans something to cheer for but they were shown the exit door prior to their last league stage encounter, versus Namibia.

After India's end of the road in the T20 WC, Kohli has officially stepped down as the national side's captain in the shortest format. For the unversed, the 33-year-old had already announced, in mid-September, that he won't lead the side in the T20Is post the World Cup. With Rohit Sharma set to take over, along with new head coach Rahul Dravid who will succeed Ravi Shastri, the Men in Blue will like to enter into a new era and move past their missed opportunities in the T20 WC.

However, former Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed feels there is more to what meets the eyes with regard Kohli stepping aside as T20I captain. He feels an early retirement is also on cards for Kohli from the shortest format. Nonetheless, he made heads turn by claiming that there are two groups within Team India at the moment.

I see two groups existing in the Indian dressing room right now… the Mumbai and Delhi groups," Mushtaq, who is presently working at the PCB's high-performance centre, said on the Geo News channel.

"I think Kohli will soon retire from playing T20 internationals for his country although he will continue in the Indian Premier League. I think he has had his fill of this format," Mushtaq further asserted.

On India's dismal campaign in the T20 WC, he opined, "I think India flopped in the World Cup because of the IPL. I think their players after remaining for so long in a bio-secure bubble before the World Cup were jaded and tired."

In mid-September 2021, New Zealand cricket team pulled out of their tour of Pakistan at the last minute, just before the tour-opener, citing security concerns. The England Cricket Board (ECB) -- who was also next in-line and set to send their men and women's team to Pakistan -- also withdrew due to "bubble fatigue", which left the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) fuming.

However, the England cricket have made a strong move to amend their mistakes as the ECB boss Tom Harrison travelled to Pakistan to meet his PCB counterpart. Thus, he has assured that the England men's cricket team will tour Pakistan in September 2022, for seven T20Is (comprising two additional games), and return for a three-match Test series in the Asian country post next year's T20 World Cup (in Australia).

As a result of England's commitment, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja lauded the ECB and shared Pakistan cricket's forward plan. In a video shared by the PCB, Raja didn't just thank ECB for confirming the 2022 tour but also revealed that he is planning to introduce U-19 and Women's PSL along with giving the countrymen a full home season every year.

"I'm thankful to the England Cricket Board (ECB), as it wasn't easy for them. They were under pressure and we became emotional when the pullout took place. Everyone saw how Pakistan made its case, and the result is they came here. The only thing is we and the ECB must walk together because it's important for every board to understand each other, their frustrations, meet the expectations. I think the ECB also understood they committed a mistake by withdrawing, and it was a knee-jerk reaction," Raja said in the video.

"This tour was important, and it's their gratefulness. Coming over here to sort things out and accepting their fault and promising to play two additional T20Is is good news for our fans because I believe Pakistan should have a home season so spectators come and watch and top teams should tour."

Ramiz also hinted that NZ might also take a leaf from the ECB and reschedule their cancelled Pakistan tour for next year. "We are also revisiting New Zealand's tour, and when I go to Dubai, we might announce a schedule. However, England and Australia tours are massive breakthroughs, and I expect our side to perform well. I want us to be a proud nation and our fans, our team, and the board to be respected. Also, if we are firm and honest, we need not fear anybody," he said.

Lastly, he also made some big promises and revealed, "In October, hopefully we will launch something like a PSL for Under-19 level. We are very excited because this has not happened anywhere in the world. England will send their Under-19 players, we will look after them. West Indies to tour Pakistan in December for 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs, PCB confirms

Babar Azam-led Pakistan thrashed Namibia by 45 runs in their fourth and penultimate game in the Super 12 round of the T20 World Cup 2021 edition, on Tuesday evening (November 2) at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi. With this win, the Men in Green have become the first-ever side to qualify for the T20 WC 2021 edition, being held in the UAE.

Choosing to bat first, Babar & Co. were off to a slow start but had wickets in hand as they consolidated in the second-half of their innings to post a daunting 189/2, riding on Babar's 70, Mohammad Rizwan's 79* and Mohammad Hafeez's 16-ball 32*. In reply, Namibia did lose convincingly but they didn't surrender easily as they kept on fighting and posted a decent 144/5 courtesy Craig Williams' 40 and David Weise's 43* (31). With the defeat, Namibia are pretty much out of contention from the semi-finals race but once again the lowly-ranked side made heads turn with their fighting spirit and positive body language.

Former captain Misbah-ul-Haq addressed "deep-rooted" problems that are persistent in the Pakistan cricket system and said that looking for "scapegoats" is a norm in Pak cricket. Misbah also mentioned that improvement is unlikely unless it changes its culture. Last month, Misbah had stepped down from the post of Pakistan cricket head coach citing family concerns. He now spoke for the first time after his resignation as he said "cosmetic surgery" will not change anything in Pakistan cricket. "The problem is that in our cricket we only look at results and we don't give time or have patience for planning ahead and improving the system," he said on A-Sports channel. After losing a match or series we look for someone as a scapegoat to save face." "Nothing will change if we continue with this cosmetic surgery. You can change the coaches and players but deep down the problems will remain the same," he said. Pakistan at T20 World Cup Pakistan announced an initial 15-member squad and three reserves, but chief selector Muhammad Wasim later made three changes, including former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. Later, another veteran player Shoaib Malik also made a return after an injury to batsman Sohaib Maqsood. Commenting on the same, Misbah criticised the working of the national selection committee and the way it had made changes in the T20 World Cup squad. "What is going on? First, you take decisions on bringing some players into the World Cup team and then 10 days later you take a U-turn and bring back players dropped back into the fold," he said. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ramiz Raja said on Wednesday that Pakistan Cricket Board would collapse if Indian government wanted, pointing to sizeable revenue International Cricket Council (ICC) gets from Indian markets.

Raja pointed out that PCB received 50 per cent of its funding from the ICC and the ICC raises 90 per cent of its money from Indian markets. In a way, Raja said that Indian businesses were keeping Pakistan cricket going. If Indian prime minister decided to stop funding, he said, Pakistan cricket would collapse.

"ICC funding means that the body conducts tournaments and distributes the money among member boards," he said as quoted by Pakistani news outlet Dawn.

Former West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding slammed England for abandoning the Pakistan tour after New Zealand cancelled their tour to the South Asian nation due to security reasons in September. He called it "Western arrogance" and said that he is "absolutely sure" they would not have done that to India. England's men's and women's white ball teams were due to tour this month but the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) pulled out of both because of concerns over "mental and physical well-being". "The ECB statement doesn't wash with me. No substance," said Holding, who played 60 Tests and 102 one-day internationals in his glittering career. "Nobody wants to come forward and face up to anything because they know what they did was wrong. So they put out a statement and hid behind a statement. It just reminds me of the rubbish they did with Black Lives Matter," he added. New Zealand Cricket called off their first tour of Pakistan in 18 years just as the first one-day international was due to start in Rawalpindi. Soon after that, England also cancelled their scheduled short tour. It was a massive blow to a country, which was shunned by all after a deadly 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore and Pakistan have been trying to organise bilateral series. Pakistan have only hosted South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe since the 2009 attacks. ALSO READ | IPL 2021: Man of many talents! "Pakistan went to England before vaccines were available for six or seven weeks," said Holding, a respected television commentator since his retirement from the game in 1987 and author of 'Why We Kneel, How We Rise', a sober account of racial discrimination. "They stayed, they played their cricket, they honoured what England wanted them to honour, to save England's butt, to put it mildly. "Four days in Pakistan? 'Western arrogance': Michael Holding slams England for pulling out of Pakistan tour, says 'would not have done that to India'

Pakistan have produced many talented cricketers, who have gone onto make a huge mark in the cricketing fraternity. Wasim Akram, former Pakistan captain and all-rounder, is one such cricketer who went onto win many games for the Men in Green and also lead them in the 1999 ODI World Cup final.

Despite being such a big name in world cricket and a respected figure in Pakistan cricket, the former all-rounder and 'Sultan of Swing' has never coached the national side after hanging his boots. Recently, Akram opened up on why he isn't keen on taking up the coaching role in Pakistan Cricket.

"When you become the coach, you need to give at least 200 to 250 days a year to the team and that's a lot of work. I don't think I can manage so much work away from Pakistan, from my family. And as it is, I spend time with most of the players in the PSL, they all have my number and they keep asking for advice," Akram said in the interview to Cricket Pakistan.

"I am not a fool. I keep on hearing and seeing on social media how people misbehave with their coaches and seniors. The coach isn't the one playing. The players are the one playing. The coach can only help with the planning. So, if the team loses, I don't think the coach is as responsible or accountable as we hold him as a nation. So, I'm afraid of that as well, because I can't tolerate anyone misbehaving with me. And we are becoming like that. I love the people, their enthusiasm and passion for the game, but not the misbehavior that is shown on social media. It shows what we are. I have never seen this happen in other countries." Akram added.

In the past, many big names in Pakistan cricket have gone onto serve as the head coach of the national cricket team, for instance Javed Miandad, Misbah-ul-Haq, etc. However, the pressure of leading the side to the No. 1 ranking across formats and helping them win ICC trophies remains immense in the cricket-loving country like Pakistan. Their ardent cricket fans can get too critical at times and judge every performance; putting the head coach's job at stake. In addition, social media trolling has nowadays become common, where many fans slam cricketers and coaches overlooking their overall stature and getting too harsh at times. Hence, Akram is willing to stay away from coaching the Men in Green. He is happy taking up coaching roles in franchise leagues and being available for players on calls.

The New Zealand team was in Pakistan for a limited-overs tour but abandoned the series after a 'security threat'. Days after New Zealand's decision to not play in Pakistan, England confirmed that they will not be touring the country.

As per a report in PTI, PCB chief Ramiz Raza has been on a 'warpath' since New Zealand and England's decision to pull out from their respective commitments. The PCB is now planning to take legal action against the two cricket boards ahead of the next ICC meeting.

PCB chief Raza is reportedly busy exploring legal options to take action against the England Cricket Board, and the New Zealand Cricket Board after speaking to PCB's patron-in-chief and Prime Minister Imran Khan.

"Pakistan is studying all legal resources it can take to demand compensation from the two boards," a source was quoted as saying by PTI.

Meanwhile, England cricket's player's body has claimed the England Cricket Board did not seek the suggestions from the players before making the decision to call off the tour of Pakistan. A spokesperson of the Team England Player Partnership (TEPP) denied players' involvement in the decision to not tour Pakistan.

"At no stage has the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) ever asked Team England Player Partnership or the teams, men and women, whether the tour should go ahead or whether players were prepared to tour Pakistan," a TEPP spokesperson was quoted as saying by British media.

Pakistan will now focus on preparing for the upcoming T20 World Cup after both New Zealand and England pulled out of their respective tours. The Babar Azam-led side will open their World Cup campaign against arch-rivals India on October 24.

Pakistan Cricket Board planning legal action ahead of next ICC meet after England, NZ cancel tours - Report

Karachi, Sep 24 (PTI) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will not consider hosting its home series at neutral venues from now onwards, a senior official said on Friday, asserting that the country is safe to host international games. New Zealand arrived in Pakistan for the first time since 2005 but left without playing a single game, citing a security threat.

England also decided to cancel its tour to Pakistan, saying it had players' welfare in mind. "That is now out of the equation because the security situation in Pakistan is normal and we have everything in place to host any international team. No more neutral venues for us," a PCB official said.

After the cancellation of the two tours, the PCB had approached a few Boards to arrange an international series at home before the T20 World Cup but now it has decided to organise a domestic event.

"Initial talks were held with some boards including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe but it was then decided to focus on the National T20 Championship as all the main players are available for the event and it is a curtain-raiser to the World Cup for us now," the official said.

He said that Sri Lanka players would be in Oman holding a training camp ahead of their World Cup qualifying matches from October 17 as they have to qualify for the Super-12 stage.

"Bangladesh agreed to send a B team and Zimbabwe were also willing to come but we, after discussions, decided that since time was short it was better to focus on the domestic event," he said. The official said the cancellation of the home series against New Zealand and England was a big setback for the country but it was heartening to see that cricket world had sympathy for Pakistan cricket.

"Nearly everyone believes that Pakistan cricket has been treated badly and deserves to have proper international cricket." The Board is now planning to send the World Cup squad and reserves a bit earlier to the UAE so that they can settle in properly after completing their quarantine periods. Asked about the tours by West Indies and Australia, the official said the Board has been in touch with them.

"We know the situation is not perfect after the New Zealand and England withdrawals but what we can do is make the best security arrangements to the satisfaction of the touring sides. We are prepared for every situation now," he said.

Now, reports have started circulating that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reportedly spent nearly Rs 3 million in food bills for the officers, who were in charge of security during the series, in just eight days.

Anandabazar Patrika reported that PCB have received a biryani bill of Rs 2.8 million for security officials hired for New Zealand team before the tour got abandoned. The reports further added that each security personnel was served biriyani twice a day.

After the New Zealand cricket team abandoned the Pakistan series citing security concerns, the officials have been trying to defend their so-called security system as England also called off their men's and women's tours. Soon after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and some cricketers expressed their frustration and disappointment over the cancellation, the country has now started to shift the blame to India. It is interesting to note that New Zealand had refused to divulge the details of the security threat and they didn't even update the travel arrangements for the departing squad. Now, New Zealand's cricket squad arrived home on Wednesday (September 22). Here are some of the claims made by Pakistan: 1) Pakistan Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the "threat had come via an email". 2) He said that the "possible user of this e-mail ID (Identity document) is an Indian, Om Parkash Mishra, from Mumbai, Maharashtra." 3) Fawad Chaudhry also said that the device that was used to send a threat to the New Zealand team "belonged to India". IN PICS | New Zealand abandon Pakistan tour: 8 instances when sporting events got affected on security grounds 4) He said that the email was "generated from India through a VPN showing the location of Singapore." 5) Chaudhry further added that the West Indies team, due to arrive in December, had also been sent a threat that he said was fake. 6) He also claimed that on August 24, New Zealand opener Martin Guptill's wife received an email threatening her husband. Pakistan cricket has been in shambles ever since New Zealand cricket team (NZC) decided to postpone their tour of the Asian country, minutes before the tour-opener was set to take place on September 17. NZC withdrew from their historic Pakistan tour on security grounds, pushing Pakistan to the corner just when it had started to host international games at regular intervals.

Following NZC, the England Cricket Board (ECB) also withdrew their Pakistan tour; adding to the Asian country's woes. The New Zealand and England home series were planned as a dress rehearsal for Babar Azam-led Men in Green ahead of the forthcoming T20 World Cup, in the UAE. However with both sides backing out, it has pushed Pakistan cricket to a corner.

Ravi Shastri-led India have enjoyed much success across formats, however, the national side hasn't won an ICC title as yet. Nonetheless, it goes without saying that Virat Kohli and Shastri-led Indian team has flourished across formats since mid-2017.

Speaking to ARY Sports, Raja said that Team India head coach Shastri was always fond of Pakistan cricket of the past. Hence, he believes Kohli & Co. have imbibed all the good strategies of the yesteryear Pakistan team for resounding success.

"Of late, India have adopted all good strategies of Pakistan team. And this was bound to happen as India's head coach Ravi Shastri was always impressed with Pakistan. Ours was a very hard-working and dedicated lot, we used to take players who were less talented to 100%, and we refused to give up. They have changed their model on similar lines, worked a lot on skill, the level of their first-class cricket has significantly improved, which has connected all the dots for them. We have to work on a lot of things in the next 3-4 years to reach there," Raja stated.

New Zealand cricket team reached Pakistan for an international tour after a long gap of 18 years. The Black Caps had last toured Pakistan in December 2003 and, hence, all eyes were on their series versus hosts Pakistan. However, the NZC pulled out of the limited-overs tour just minutes before the ODI series opener, in Rawalpindi, on security grounds on September 17.

Following the NZC, the England Cricket Board (ECB) also pulled out of their tour of Pakistan, adding to the woes of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Now, former Pakistan speedster and bowling coach Waqar Younis has urged Australian cricket to tour Pakistan, claiming his home country as 'the safest place in the world'.

Speaking to The Age, "I live in Sydney, my family is in Sydney – it’s the safest place in the world and I can guarantee you this place is nothing less than that. Come visit us, we will make sure we will look after you. Our security is one of the best in the world. We’ll make sure nothing of that sort will occur. When a team comes it is a different ball game. They make sure the hospitality; the security is right up there,” Younis, who recently stepped down as Pakistan's bowling coach, said.

“It was very tough with quarantine and we followed the protocols. We made sure cricket shouldn’t suffer. We went to NZ when the vaccines didn’t exist. That was one of the toughest tours I’ve attended – 14 days of quarantine was really painful,” Younis added.

I remember doing the captain’s round with Babar [Azam] the day before and just seeing how happy he was to have international cricket and have us there. He was very excited and it was a historic moment for New Zealand Cricket to be back there 18 years since they were last there.”

“To be part of that was going to be something special, but obviously things changed. NZC acted swiftly along with the people on the ground in Pakistan. While we were there after the decision, the Pakistan authorities were brilliant. They kept us safe at the hotel and we certainly need to thank them,” Tom Latham told NZ's in-house media channel according to ESPNcricinfo.
