<p>New York City authorities, as per Fox News, have urged the public to steer clear of the area to ensure their safety. The incident has left at least six people injured, including two firefighters who were responding to the scene.</p>

<p>At around 7:25 am (local time), the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) received a report of a fire in the crane's engine compartment, situated about 45 stories high.</p>

<p>Detailing the sequence of events, FDNY First Deputy Fire Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer said, "As our fire units responded to the scene, we had a collapse," he said, adding that the top part of the crane, known as the boom, along with a 16-tonnes&nbsp;load of concrete, came crashing down to the ground.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"At that point, we had injuries to civilians and firefighters, but they were minor," added Pfeifer.</p>

<p>Pfeifer told the press that despite the perilous situation, the crane operator demonstrated quick thinking by attempting to extinguish the fire. However, the intensity of the blaze forced the operator to evacuate the crane for their safety.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"So we give a lot of credit to the crane operator, but the fire overwhelmed that operator and (they) had to exit the crane."</p>

<p>New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed relief that the injuries sustained were minor, considering the scale of the disaster.</p>

<p>"Thank God that the injuries… were minor," said Adams.&nbsp;"As you can see from the debris on the street, this could have been much worse," he added.</p>

<p>74-year-old Janice Hunter, as per Sky News, died of asphyxiation at the couple's retirement home near Paphos in December 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the time, David admitted to killing her but denied it was a murder. He told the Cyprus court that Janice was suffering from blood cancer and had "begged him" to take her life, relieve her of the pain.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lesley Cawthorne, Janice and David's daughter told Sky News she was relieved that her father has been cleared of murder charges.</p>

<p>"It's the best we could have hoped for in the circumstances, and I really hope the judges can extend their compassion and be lenient in their sentencing."</p>

<p>In June 2022, she told BBC that her mother had been "in absolute agony" in her final months.</p>

<p>As per David, his wife had been begging him to relieve her of the pain&nbsp;for weeks.</p>

<p>"For five or six weeks before she died, she was asking me to help her. She was asking me more every day," he said.</p>

<p>Despite opposition from the defence, the court had allowed his confession, deeming it lawfully obtained.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Not a pre-planned act</strong></h2>

<p>As per BBC, Hunter's lawyer Michael Polak, the verdict meant there was a "very good chance" his client would receive a suspended sentence and be able to return to the UK to live with his daughter.</p>

<p>"This wasn't a pre-planned act," said Polak, adding that his client "acted on the spur of the moment because she (Janice) was in so much pain."</p>

<p>According to the lawyer, judges also accepted Hunter had a "loving" and "dream" relationship with his wife of more than 50 years and "on that morning she asked him to end her life".</p>

<p>Authorities suspect that the owner of the dog, identified as Mandagi Kanchana, a 22-year-old resident of Yanam, may have jumped off the GMC Balayogi Bridge that connects Yanam and Yedurlanka, and into the river on Sunday. A search operation has been launched to recover the woman's body, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.</p>

<p>News agency IANS reports that the woman was walking with her pet on the bridge when she suddenly jumped into the river. Reportedly, after passersby&nbsp;raised an alarm, fishermen in a boat tried to save her, but she was washed away in the&nbsp;strong current.</p>

<p>Sixth Tone, which does extensive coverage of all things China, reports that a search across major online travel-based platforms reveals that many youth hostels in Beijing now impose an age restriction.</p>

<p>Reportedly, many of them have set the age requirement between 18 and 40 years. Additionally, some have raised this restriction and cater to people till the ages of 45 to 50, but many have drawn the line at 35 years.</p>

<p>And it's not just the capital Beijing. Similar restrictions are in place in other major Chinese cities, including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Guangzhou.</p>

<p>Responding to a booking request by Sixth Tone posing as a middle-aged guest, one Beijing hotel said that the reason for their 35-year age restriction is precautionary. They claimed that they were trying to avoid conflicts between their young guests and the "old" ones and that the schedules, and living habits of the two broad age groups are different.</p>

<p>Talking to local news publication Baidu, the user behind the viral social media post which helped shine the limelight on this issue, says that staying in a youth hostel is not only cheaper but also helps you make friends with people with similar interests.</p>

<p>Fu Jian, a lawyer at Henan-based Zejin Law Firm, says that age restrictions are not illegal, but that "operators should inform customers of such conditions in advance to prevent unnecessary disputes."</p>

<h2><strong>Why did a turtle need a CT scan?</strong></h2>

<p>As per Miami Herald report, Kale's journey has been challenging. In 2019, the endangered turtle was accidentally hooked by a recreational fisherman off the coast of Virginia. Virginia wildlife officials intervened to rescue the juvenile turtle, but the size of the hook required invasive surgeries to address the injury.</p>

<p>Due to complications during the healing process, Kale developed scar tissue and a fistula, a hollow space prone to infections. Consequently, he requires regular veterinarian visits and treatment.</p>

<p>The Cook Museum of Natural Science in Decatur, Alabama, took in Kale in 2020 and has been providing the necessary care for his ongoing medical issues. Recently, the museum staff decided that a CT scan was needed to assess the progress of Kale's deep shell infections.</p>

<p>As per the museum, "The CT scan is the best tool to assess the improvement of Kale’s deep infections of his shell."</p>

<h2><strong>A grumpy turtle and a CT scan</strong></h2>

<p>To address this need, they approached the radiology team at Decatur Morgan Hospital for assistance. The hospital's radiology team was up for the challenge, and Kale became their first animal patient.</p>

<p>Apparently, during the CT scan, Kale expressed his displeasure at being at the doctor's, due to which veterinarians had to hold him still during the procedure.</p>

<p>Elon Musk has officially launched his highly anticipated artificial intelligence startup, xAI. As per reports, the team behind xAI consists of engineers from major US technology companies which the SpaceX CEO hopes to challenge with his alternative to ChatGPT.<br />

The formation of the AI&nbsp;startup comes with the launch of its website, which on Wednesday, unveiled a team-up of engineers who previously worked at Alphabet-owned Google, Microsoft and OpenAI.</p>

<p>In a tweet on Wednesday, Musk announced the formation of xAI, stating, "Announcing formation of @xAI to understand reality."</p>

<p>In the past Musk, who serves as the CEO of Tesla and is the owner of Twitter, has been vocal about his concerns regarding AI development and&nbsp;emphasising the need for regulation in the industry has even called for a pause in its progress. However, as per Reuters, he will lead xAI in its quest to challenge major tech firms.</p>

<p>The xAI team includes notable individuals such as Igor Babuschkin, a former engineer at DeepMind, Tony Wu, who previously worked at Google, Christian Szegedy, a former research scientist at Google, and Greg Yang, who was earlier associated with Microsoft.</p>

<p>As per a state filing, in March, Musk registered a company named X.AI Corp in Nevada. The document lists him as the sole director of the firm, while Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk's family office, is listed as the secretary.</p>

<p>Dan Hendrycks, who currently serves as the director of the Center for AI Safety, with his work focusing on the risks associated with AI, will serve as an adviser to the xAI team.</p>

<h2><strong>Musk's AI dream</strong></h2>

<p>Earlier this year, in April, Musk announced his intention to launch TruthGPT, an AI system focused on seeking maximum truth, to rival Google's Bard and Microsoft's Bing AI, which as per him will aim to understand the nature of the universe.</p>

<p>Generative AI gained significant attention with the release of OpenAI's popular chatbot, ChatGPT, in November of the previous year, preceding the launches of Bard and Bing AI.</p>

<p>The xAI website while emphasising its commitment to assembling a skilled team has also announced the startup's plans to recruit experienced engineers and researchers in the Bay Area.</p>

The xAI team includes notable individuals such as Igor Babuschkin, a former engineer at DeepMind, Tony Wu, who previously worked at Google, Christian Szegedy, a former research scientist at Google, and Greg Yang, who was earlier associated with Microsoft. As per a state filing, in March, Musk registered a company named X.AI Corp in Nevada. The document lists him as the sole director of the firm, while Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk's family office, is listed as the secretary. Dan Hendrycks, who currently serves as the director of the Center for AI Safety, with his work focusing on the risks associated with AI, will serve as an adviser to the xAI team. <p>Online casino PlayStar conducted a survey of 1,306 participants, split equally between males and females, to explore their propensity for lying in different settings.</p>

<p>As per a report in New York Post, the results revealed that millennials, or those born between 1981 and 1996, were the worst offenders, with 13 per cent admitting to being dishonest at least once a day.</p>

<p>Even Gen Z did better. Generation Z, the young ones, born between 1997 and 2021 and Generation X, born between 1965 and 1980 displayed similar levels of deception, with only five&nbsp;per cent in each group owning up to daily dishonesty.</p>

<h2><strong>What do millennials lie about?</strong></h2>

<p>The survey did delve into the specific areas where lies are most prevalent. Nearly one-third of millennials admitted to lying on their resumes this year and the workplace was identified as the hub of deceit. Almost 40 per cent of millennials confessed to lying to their boss in order to avoid embarrassment.</p>

<p>Furthermore, 23 per cent of millennials and 21 per cent of Gen Z individuals admitted to lying on social media to impress others.</p>

<h2><strong>What pushes millennials to lie?</strong></h2>

<p>The focus on money, image, and fame among millennials might explain their higher propensity for lying, as indicated by a 2012 study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.</p>

<p>The technology named "Jizai Arms" takes inspiration from 'The Arm', a quasi-horror traditional Japanese story by novelist Yasunari Kawabata. The short story revolves around an ageing man who becomes obsessed with a beautiful young woman and borrows one of her arms for the night.</p>

<p>Now, new research conducted by a team of researchers from Denmark and Sweden suggests that artificial intelligence may be able to predict a person's political views based on their appearance, posing potential privacy concerns.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The study found that the AI model accurately predicted the political affiliations of people in around 61 per cent of cases.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per the research published in the journal Nature, variations in facial expressions were linked to political views. The model concluded that, due to their smiles, "both male and female right-wing composites appeared happier than their left-wing counterparts",&nbsp;while liberal candidates displayed more neutral expressions.</p>

<p>Women who exhibited a facial expression of contempt — neutral eyes and one corner of the lips lifted — were associated with more liberal politics by the model.</p>

<p>The researchers also observed a correlation between a candidate's level of attractiveness and their political ideology.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per Business Insider, women deemed attractive by their beauty scores were predicted to have conservative views, although there was no similar correlation found between men's attractiveness and right-wing leanings.</p>

<p>"Politicians on the right have been found to be more attractive than those on the&nbsp;left," states the study.</p>

<h2><strong>What data set was used?</strong></h2>

<p>The study aimed to demonstrate the privacy threat resulting from the combination of deep learning techniques and easily accessible photographs. For this purpose, the researchers used a dataset of 3,233 images of Danish political candidates and employed facial recognition and predictive analytics to assess facial expressions and attractiveness scores.</p>

<p>In South Korea, a teenager has been arrested for attempting to open an aeroplane emergency door mid-flight. As per a News 8000 report, after an investigation by the Incheon Airport police, the 19-year-old tested positive for drugs.</p>

<h2><strong>What happened?</strong></h2>

<p>On June 19th, a red-eye flight en route from the Philippines to Seoul, South Korea, became the scene of 'turbulence' after a 19-year-old Korean man tried to open the plane's door.</p>

<p>The man boarded the flight from Cebu in the Philippines. One hour into the flight, he began "acting strangely" due to which the flight crew moved him to the front of the plane — closer to the exit door — to keep an eye on him, reported CNN.</p>

<p>As per officials from Jeju Air, the passenger also complained of feeling "pressure" on his chest.</p>

<p>Soon after, he attempted to open the plane's door. Talking to reporters, he later claimed that he "felt I was being attacked".</p>

<p>Due to their timely action, the door to the plane stayed closed, and the plane landed undamaged. Furthermore, none of the 180 passengers aboard the plane were hurt.</p>

<h2><strong>The investigation</strong></h2>

<p>The man was handed over to the police at Seoul’s Incheon Airport at 7:30 am. Following that, with the passenger's consent, a simple drug test was run, which found he was under the influence of drugs.</p>

<p>As per CNN, a warrant has been issued for the 19-year-old. He has been accused of violating the Aviation Security Act.</p>

<h2><strong>First of its kind incident?</strong></h2>

<p>No, just last month, a 30-year-old man aboard an Asiana Airlines flight had opened an aircraft's door just before it landed in Daegu, South Korea.</p>

<p>Similarly, in March, a man aboard a Delta Air Lines passenger plane was arrested for opening an aircraft door and sliding down the exit chute.</p>

<h2><strong>What motivated Dr Deep to stay underwater for 100 days?</strong></h2>

<p>For Dituri, the main motivation behind his underwater stay, which earned him the nickname "Dr Deep Sea," was not about breaking records but rather about pushing the limits of human endurance in an underwater environment characterised by confinement and isolation.</p>

<p>The Marine Resources Development Foundation, the organisation that owns the lodge, is now planning to submit a request to Guinness to officially certify Dituri's impressive achievement of 100 days.</p>

<p>Dr Deep undertook the perilous challenge as part of Project Neptune 100. The project was organised by the Marine Resources Development Foundation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per a report by the news agency AFP, the AI-based tool has shown promising results in reading physicians' notes and accurately predicting patients' risk of death, readmission to the hospital, and other important outcomes related to their care.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>NYUTron</strong></h2>

<p>The software, known as NYUTron, is currently being used by NYU's affiliated hospitals in New York. The team behind this amazing tool hopes that one day it will become a standard component of healthcare practices.</p>

<p>A study published in the journal Nature highlights the predictive capabilities of this AI tool.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Talking to AFP, lead author Eric Oermann, a neurosurgeon and computer scientist at NYU, explained that while predictive models in medicine have existed for some time, they are not widely used due to the challenges of organising and formatting the required data.</p>

<p>However, the team realised that physicians consistently write detailed notes about their clinical observations and patient interactions. This, as per the team, can be a valuable source of data for building predictive models.</p>

<p>"One thing that's common in medicine everywhere, is physicians write notes about what they've seen in clinic, what they've discussed with patients," said Oermann.</p>

<p>"So our basic insight was, can we start with medical notes as our source of data, and then build predictive models on top of it?"</p>

<h2><strong>How did they achieve this feat?</strong></h2>

<p>NYUTron is basically a large language model. To train it, researchers used millions of clinical notes from the health records of 387,000 patients treated at NYU Langone hospitals between January 2011 and May 2020.</p>

<p>These notes encompassed various types of records written by doctors, including progress notes, radiology reports, and discharge instructions, resulting in a massive corpus of 4.1 billion words.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Using this data, the software made predictions which were then evaluated against real outcomes retrospectively.</p>

<p>One of the significant challenges the software faced was interpreting the diverse natural language used by physicians, which often includes unique abbreviations and variations.</p>

<h2><strong>The results?</strong></h2>

<p>Overall, NYUTron exhibited impressive performance, correctly identifying 95 per cent of patients who died in the hospital before discharge and predicting 80 per cent of patients who would be readmitted within 30 days.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Furthermore, NYUTron accurately estimated the actual length of stay for 79 per cent of patients, correctly identified 87 per cent of cases where insurance coverage was denied, and accurately recognized 89 per cent of cases where patients had additional conditions accompanying their primary disease.</p>

<p>It surpassed the predictions made by most doctors and outperformed non-AI computer models currently in use.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Can artificial intelligence&nbsp;replace doctors?</strong></h2>

<p>Interestingly, no. The tool was outperformed by the most experienced physician in the study, who achieved results exceeding the model's predictions.</p>

<p>As per Oermann, "the most senior physician who's actually a very famous physician, he had superhuman performance, better than the model."</p>

<p>Oermann emphasised that AI can never replace the physician-patient relationship. Instead, AI tools like NYUTron aim to "provide more information for physicians seamlessly at the point of care so they can make more informed decisions."&nbsp;He remarked that "the sweet spot for technology and medicine isn't that it's going to always deliver necessarily superhuman results, but it's going to really bring up that baseline."</p>

<h2><strong>How do we know these images are AI-generated?</strong></h2>

<p>Talking to Reuters, Matthew Stamm, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Drexel University, said that as per an analysis of traces left behind by synthetic image generators, the three images of Trump and Fauci kissing and hugging are likely AI-generated.</p>

<p>"Our results consistently output a decision that these images are fake," he added.</p>
