<p>National Institutes of Health (NIH) estimates that 1.3 million Americans start to experience menopause symptoms each year, which are typically characterised by hot flashes. The fluctuating temperatures that come with menopause can linger for years and can range from uncomfortable to incapacitating. NASA technology will aid in relieving these extreme symptoms.</p>

<p>The technology in question is called Outlast. As per the NASA website, it was developed in the 1980s when the space agency's Houston-based Johnson Space Center was looking into ways to improve insulation in spacesuit gloves.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In collaboration with Triangle Research and Development Corporation, the centre&nbsp;then explored "phase-change materials, which maintain a steady temperature as they change phase from solid to liquid or vice-versa."</p>

<p>Now, a textile marketer named Louise Nicholson, who wanted to help people stay comfortable during menopause, will be using Outlast.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Nicholson's London-based company Fifty One Apparel has introduced "high-end fabrics" that are made "by bonding Outlast to cellulosic yarn" which helps the clothing maintain "the temperature-regulating properties of phase-change materials" while retaining "the look and feel of high-end fabrics."</p>

<p>The company's early offerings were limited to a line of shirts in four designs which were initially distributed to customers in the London region through parties.&nbsp;However,&nbsp;now the company has evolved to include online sales of tops, bottoms, and nightwear to people all over the world. Fifty One also offers products like turbans, facemasks, and scarves, all of which use space technology that helps menopausing&nbsp;women stay cool.</p>

<p>Julie Chin of KJRH, an Oklahoma news anchor was live when she suddenly suffered what was later identified as the "beginnings of a stroke".</p>

<p>Chin was experiencing difficulty in properly forming sentences, a video of the incident shows her saying "I’m sorry, something is going on with me this morning, and I apologize to everybody," before passing over to her colleague.</p>

<p>Every year, the Natural History Museum's Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPY) competition produces stunning images for the world, but among this year's best images is one that might be masking dark, sinister undertones.</p>

<p>The picture titled 'The bonobo and the mongoose' was clicked by Christian Ziegler in the rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo.</p>

<p>At first glance, it seems as though this is a moving scene between the two animals, in which one animal is taking care of another. However, according to experts, it's more likely that the bonobo took the young mongoose cub after slaughtering its mother.</p>

<p>In a conversation with the BBC, a behavioural ecologist and evolutionary anthropologist Dr Barbara Fruth said that sometimes when Bonobos catch large prey, and the meal is too big, the ape does not immediately kill all its victims. Instead, they keep some of their prey alive as pets. Usually, these prey are eaten later.</p>

<p>Dr Fruth,&nbsp;who is the head of the LuiKotale Bonobo Project, and has been researching these animals for more than 20 years, thinks that this is most likely what was happening when the image was taken.</p>

<p>The skies of the Indian city Dehradun were graced by an awe-inspiring phenomenon on Sunday. On Sunday afternoon, locals reported seeing a sun halo with a rainbow of colours. This soon prompted many to capture the rare sight on their devices and post it on social media, where it quickly went viral, reported PTI.&nbsp;The sun halo, also known as the "22 degree halo," is an unusual optical phenomenon that gives the appearance of a rainbow encircling the sun or moon at a distance of about 22 degrees.</p>

<p>Director of the Meteorological Centre Bikram Singh explained&nbsp;that the phenomenon happens as a result of sunlight getting refracted by the millions of hexagonal ice crystals hovering in the atmosphere.</p>

<p>Experts advise that people must exercise caution when taking photos of sun halos. Directly facing the sun without any obstructions can harm a camera and your eyes.</p>

<p>As per the website EarthSky, both refraction, or the splitting of light, and reflection, or the glints of light from these ice crystals, result&nbsp;in the halos we witness. For the halo to emerge, the crystals must be precisely aligned and placed in relation to the observer’s eye.</p>

This soon prompted many to capture the rare sight on their devices and post it on social media, where it quickly went viral, reported PTI. The sun halo, also known as the "22 degree halo," is an unusual optical phenomenon that gives the appearance of a rainbow encircling the sun or moon at a distance of about 22 degrees. Director of the Meteorological Centre Bikram Singh explained that the phenomenon happens as a result of sunlight getting refracted by the millions of hexagonal ice crystals hovering in the atmosphere. <p>In a bizarre judgement, an Indian High Court has ruled that the removal of 'Mangalsutra' or 'thali' is "mental cruelty of highest order". Mangalsutra is a sacred thread worn around the neck by some Hindu women worn&nbsp;as a reflection of their marital status. The judgement in question came during the case of a man seeking a divorce. When granting the divorce to the aggrieved petitioner, a division bench of Justices V M Velumani and S Sounthar made the observation about Mangalsutra and the importance it holds in a Hindu marriage.&nbsp;In June 2016, C Sivakumar, a professor at a medical college in Erode, filed for divorce, however, a local court denied his request. Sivakumar had sought to have the decision overturned. Granting his request, the Madras High Court observed that removing the jewellery holds significance of its own.</p>

<p>The petitioners now ex-wife was examined during the proceedings and she admitted that while she and Sivakumar were separated she removed her thali and kept it in her bank locker.</p>

<p>Citing Section 7 of the Hindu Marriage Act, her attorney argued that thali is not required for marriage&nbsp;and that, even if their client removed it,&nbsp;the wife's removal of the thali would not have any effect on the marital bond.</p>

<p>However, as per a PTI report, the bench said that it is common knowledge that the tying of the thali is an important ceremony in marriage rituals, which take place "in this part of the world".</p>

<p>It cited orders of a division bench of the High Court, which stated that "It was a known fact that no Hindu married woman would remove the thali at any point of time during the lifetime of her husband."</p>

<p>"Thali around the neck of a woman was a sacred thing which symbolises the continuance of married life and it is removed only after the death of the husband. Therefore, its removal by the petitioner/wife can be said to be an act which reflected mental cruelty of the highest order as it could have caused agony and hurt the sentiments of the respondent," PTI quoted the bench as saying.</p>

<p>Since the judgement came to light, it has taken the Internet by storm and people have been quick to point out that being married and wearing a piece of jewellery have no real intrinsic connection. Some even compared it to tying a rope around a cow's neck.</p>

<p>In a dramatic rescue, a baby elephant was fished out of a manhole while its mother had to be given CPR. A video of the dramatic rescue is doing the rounds on the internet and people are obsessed, rightfully so. As per an AFP report, the incident is from the Nakhon Nayok province of Thailand. The mother-baby elephant duo were reportedly travelling through the jungle with their herd when the baby tumbled into a manhole. While the rest of the herd kept moving, the baby elephant's distressed mother remained rooted to the spot.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, upon being given the tranquiliser, the mother elephant too tumbled into the hole, though only partially. She then had to be lifted out with the help of a digger. She had to be administered CPR, however, the reason behind this remains a bit unclear. In the video multiple people can be seen jumping on her chest, putting pressure there so as to revive her.</p>

<p>The privacy watchdog in Australia has opened an investigation into the usage of facial recognition technology by two major retailers, department store Kmart and the hardware company Bunnings take “faceprints” of their patrons. The watchdog added that it was also conducting inquiries about other retail companies, the ones that stopped their facial recognition software. The technology is immoral, invasive, and can be used without consent to justification, according to the Consumer advocacy group Choice. However, both the retailers defended its application as a safety and theft-prevention tool. Angelene Falk, the Australian Information Commissioner, an investigation has been launched to see if any privacy law has been broken, BBC reported.</p>

<p>Falk said, “While deterring theft and creating a safe environment are important goals, using high privacy impact technologies in stores carries significant privacy risks.” She further said that the retailers must be able to prove that their responses are appropriate. However, Falk discovered that the convenience store chain 7-Eleven has violated customers’ privacy by gathering faceprints in a related incident last year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A 70-year-old man in Nevada has been accused of the 1982 murder case of a 5-year-old girl who vanished while making her way to her kindergarten. The investigators solved the case with the help of DNA evidence, as per the authorities. Pham vanished on January 21, 1982, on her way to kindergarten at High Elementary School in Seaside, California. Two days later, her body was found in an abandoned Fort Ord. However, after being charged last week with the killing of the little girl, Robert John Lanoue of Reno, Nevada, was scheduled to appear in Washoe County for a hearing about his extradition to Monterey County, media reports said.</p>

<p>As per the authorities, the child had been kidnapped, sexually molested, and strangled.&nbsp;</p>

After obtaining a grant to reopen the cold case, the old case was reopened in 2020 when detectives with the Monterey Case Task Force collaborated with Seaside Police Department to submit the evidence from the case for DNA testing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Attorney Pacioni, investigators in California were able to secure a warrant for Lanoue’s arrest on July 6. Records showed that the man was already incarcerated in the Washoe County jail when he was arrested on June 8 for a parole violation.&nbsp;</p>

Chinese man goes to doctor after finding blood in pee, turns out he was on his period

<p>A group of people while on a guided tour of Kyrgyzstan's mountains had a very lucky escape. The group of ten, which had nine Britons and one American escaped an avalanche and they have the footage to prove it. The incident took place in the wildly beautiful Tian Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan. Harry Shimmin, one of the people on the lucky trekking group has uploaded a video of the whole incident on Instagram, in which their narrow escape from death. The video has left people flabbergasted, with its intensity, and in just a few hours it has already gained more than 3,45,000 views and 37.5 thousand likes.</p>

<p>Taking to Instagram, Shimmin writes an account of the incident. He wrote, that as the group was venturing onto the mountain slopes Shimmin had "separated from the group to take pictures on top of a hill/cliff edge," when he heard “the sound of deep ice cracking behind me”.</p>

<p>He then proceeded to hide behind a rock for shelter, but even there, protected from the avalanche, he was scared. Describing the jarring moment he writes:&nbsp;"When the snow started coming over and it got dark / harder to breath, I was bricking it and thought I might die."</p>

<p>"Behind the rock it was like being inside a blizzard."</p>

<p>Thankfully the whole group survived. One of the group members had "cut her knee quite badly", while another had some bruising from falling off of a horse. But other than that, the group survived the harrowing incident almost unscathed.</p>

<p>"The whole group was laughing and crying, happy to be alive (including the girl who cut her knee). It was only later we realised just how lucky we’d been. If we had walked 5 minutes further on our trek, we would all be dead."</p>

A group of people while on a guided tour of Kyrgyzstan's mountains had a very lucky escape. The group of ten, which had nine Britons and one American escaped an avalanche and they have the footage to prove it.

The incident took place in the wildly beautiful Tian Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan. Harry Shimmin, one of the people on the lucky trekking group has uploaded a video of the whole incident on Instagram, in which their narrow escape from death. The video has left people flabbergasted, with its intensity, and in just a few hours it has already gained more than 3,45,000 views and 37.5 thousand likes. He wrote, that as the group was venturing onto the mountain slopes Shimmin had "separated from the group to take pictures on top of a hill/cliff edge," when he heard “the sound of deep ice cracking behind me”. He then proceeded to hide behind a rock for shelter, but even there, protected from the avalanche, he was scared. Describing the jarring moment he writes: "When the snow started coming over and it got dark / harder to breath, I was bricking it and thought I might die." <p>Weeks after bodies were discovered on the shores of Las Vegas' lake Mead, a shopkeeper has found a unique, albeit sinister way to profit from the newfound curiosity generated by the area.</p>

<p>Charlie Hanks, owner of a small dark shop in the middle of a Las Vegas strip mall came up with an ingenious idea; she's selling small bottles of what looks like dirty water and is being sold under the name "Lake Mead Corpse Water".</p>

<p>Hanks, owner of a metaphysical store named Blaspheme Boutique sells items related to magic, witchcraft and other dark topics.</p>

<p>Talking to KTLA, Hanks explained that this started as a joke. She said that traditionally corpse water is used in witchcraft practices, but that what she's selling isn't really corpse water.</p>

<p>The shop owner said that she didn't really want to steal water from the already depleting waters of the lake.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hanks and her husband sell the "corpse water" for $7.77 per bottle. So far, the couple has sold 75 bottles online and around 50 in store.</p>

<p>The dark humour hasn't floated well with everyone, who think&nbsp;that the couple is just exploiting the deaths of Mafia victims.</p>

<p>Lake Mead levels, the country's largest reservoir, have dropped to 1,055 feet, setting a new drought record in Las Vegas. It hasn't been this low since 1937.</p>

<p>It has a capacity of 9.6 trillion gallons (36 trillion litres) of water and was full in 2000, but the water level has decreased by 70 per cent in the two decades since.</p>

UK woman survives two decades only on chips. This is her story

<p>A&nbsp;married&nbsp;couple&nbsp;from western England were revealed Thursday as Britain's biggest-ever lottery winners after scooping a jackpot of nearly £185 million ($230 million, 218 million euros) in the EuroMillions draw.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Joe and Jess Thwaite, from Gloucester, called the unprecedented win "huge for us" as they claimed the&nbsp;record-breaking sum of £184,262,899 with a ticket of randomly selected numbers earlier this month.</p>

<p>"It was amazing but also surreal," said Joe, 49, who works at a communications company, at a press conference with his wife as they recounted the momentous moment they discovered online their May 10 win.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Even though it's wonderful and exciting, it's also a massive relief for everybody that's been struggling with all their bills.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We're like every normal family... so it's just a huge relief."</p>

<p>Joe said the blockbuster win meant they had been enjoying simple pleasures like hot water without worrying about the costs, amid the spiralling energy prices hitting Britain.</p>

<p>Beyond that, the immediate Thwaite family -- which comprises two primary school-aged children and a host of pets including horses, ponies, dogs and even geckos -- are planning a rare family holiday and likely a new car purchase.</p>

<p>"We never go on holiday," said Jess. "So our kids would just die to go to the sun and do that kind of thing," she added, noting one favoured Hawaii while the other wanted to go to a Texas horse ranch.</p>

<p>The Thwaite's jackpot sets a new&nbsp;record&nbsp;in Britain and is the second-largest in the history of EuroMillions, which is played in the territories of nine European countries.</p>

<p>Last October saw an unprecedented 220-million-euro jackpot claimed by an undisclosed woman -- who had never previously played the game -- on the Pacific island of Tahiti, which is part of French Polynesia.</p>

<p>The three burglars Ho Yik-chiu, 46, Ng Wing-lun, 45, and Hui Ping-kei, 48, as per SCMP have been sentenced to up to two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to being part in the crime.</p>

<p>In the panel's opinion, this remark had no other purpose other than violating Finn's dignity, creating a hostile, degrading environment for him.</p>

However, the petition says that teachers and students watching pornography together in the classroom together creates an unsafe environment for students while normalising pornography in culture.</p>
