The scouting for the final 15 for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean has already begun, and former India chief selector MSK Prasad has backed the ‘find of IPL 2024’ Mayank Yadav to break into the side for the marquee tournament. Prasad feels that with Yadav’s pace and Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj’s presence in the XI, India can be a dangerous team to take on.

Since his IPL debut for Lucknow Super Giants&nbsp;against Punjab Kings this season, Yadav has made headlines, not just for his searing pace, which reads over 156 kmph on the meter, but also for bowling wicket-taking line and length up front. His bouncers are as lethal as his good-length deliveries, with even the best of batters finding it tough to tackle him.

His debut outing against PBKS saw him returning with three wickets, while against RCB in his second game, he picked as many wickets for just 14 runs, winning Player of the Match awards in back-to-back games.

Impressed with the youngster’s temperament and ability to deliver under pressure and against some of the top names, MSK feels if the selectors back the youngster to be a surprise pick for the 20-team tournament, the Indian Team could reap its rewards.

Prasad continues saying that had it been any other format, he would have overlooked Mayank for now, but with the shortest format, he would like to see him break into the team.

“Had it been some other format, probably, I would have thought differently. I would have taken a call only after watching him for a couple of bilateral series. But IPL is in itself a mega platform where you can showcase your talent because every game involves pressure."&nbsp;

“Mayank is someone who has shown he can absorb pressure and bowl consistently at a good line, and he has already troubled the best of the lot with his pace,” Prasad told RevSportz.

“If they (batters) are not able to bring the bat down against the pace he has been generating, I think he will be handy. And looking at the Indian bowling, especially with (Mohammed) Shami now being ruled out, the selectors must be looking for a third seamer after (Jasprit) Bumrah and (Mohammed) Siraj.”&nbsp;

“Someone with that kind of pace and accuracy deserves a place in the T20 World Cup squad,” the former chief selector added.

Former selection committee head MSK Prasad joined the backroom staff of IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as a strategic consultant on Thursday, August 17. His appointment comes as a second high-profile selection for LSG ahead of IPL 2024 after former Australia legend Justin Langer was announced as the head coach of the side, replacing Zimbabwean veteran Andy Flower.

Besides serving as the boss of the selection committee, Prasad has held the post of Director of Cricket Operations at the domestic level for his state Andhra Pradesh.

"His involvement at RPSG Sports will be instrumental in providing essential guidance across a spectrum of critical domains as Head of Talent Search, talent development and our academy business," LSG said in a statement.

"I think that's the tough part right now," Prasad said on Star Sports. "If you're looking at Gill to open with Rohit, then where to send Ishan Kishan is a cause for concern. If you see some of the roles he's played at No. 4 or 5, I don't think he has justified his place there.

"The best thing is he enjoys batting up the order. Somehow, we need to accommodate him at the top of the order. Probably that left-right combination of Rohit and Ishan Kishan might come in handy.

"Because Rohit always enjoyed the wonderful company of Shikhar Dhawan (they put on 18 century stands together). If you see, post-Dhawan, the form of Rohit has also been a cause of concern. The best place for Ishan Kishan to bat is up the order,” he added.

After three games, he has had scores of 39, 51, and 49* and has played his part with a lot of maturity, understanding the match situation. Thus, former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha suggested his inclusion in the ODI setup. In an interaction with the news agency PTI, Prasad said, "First of all, we should know whether Shreyas Iyer is fit or not. Prasad further made a big statement and said, "That’s the kind of role he can adapt to very quickly. He understands the situation well, he rotates strikes, he is hard to stop from scoring, and he can hold the innings together. He is someone like Michael Bevan."

"If you see his domestic cricket also, it’s close to 55 or 60, his average in the one-day format. He has got a pretty bright chance to get into the squad if Shreyas Iyer is found unfit," the former Indian cricketer added.

Prasad also acknowledged the role of Varma's IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians for the left-hander's incredible rise in the last two years. In this regard, he said: "I would say he has developed phenomenally in the last two years. He is a phenomenal cricketer, there’s no two ways about it. He played U19 for India. But credit should definitely go to Mumbai Indians for the way they have groomed him."

"The amount of opportunities he has got over the last two years, the way MI has shown faith in him, it’s tremendous. A winning team like Mumbai Indians showing faith will obviously boost the confidence of a young cricketer like him," he concluded.

Apart from Prasad, the likes of Wasim Jaffer and R Ashwin have also backed Varma to be added to India's squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup. Thus, Prasad feels if the selectors are not convinced with Rohit as the Test captain, they can ask Kohli to take over once again. It is to be noted that Kohli is India's most successful Test skipper, with 40 wins in 68 games. The ex-chief selector cited Rahane's example and stated that if the Mumbaikar can come back and be reappointed as the vice-captain, why can't Kohli lead India as well?

Speaking about Pant, Prasad pointed out that while he can be an option, the keeper-batter first needs to return and resume from where he left off before being given additional responsibilities.

Prasad added, "Let him come back. See what Rishabh Pant has done no other wicketkeeper-batsman in the history of Indian Cricket has done. Because no wicketkeeper has got runs and centuries in Australia South Africa and England in the Indian Cricket history. Let him come back, let him start getting back on the field."

"The team needed a No. 4 batsman. By dispensing with that requirement and going for an all-rounder instead, they missed the main point. If they had taken a batsman like Rahane (Ajinkya) or some other experienced batsman, it would be understandable. The No 4 batsman is needed to both block one end and score runs depending on the situation," Rayudu told a Telugu TV channel recently.

Rayudu recently made a happy ending to his domestic career as he waved goodbye to the IPL, having pocketed a record-equaling sixth title. He was part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team that beat Gujarat Titans (GT) on the final ball to clinch the title. The win also saw MS Dhoni join Rohit Sharma as the most successful captain in the history of the league with five titles each.

“Deepak Hooda gives you that extra bowling option. He can bat anywhere like Sanju, and Shreyas has done well in the home series against Sri Lanka and then in the West Indies.
