With his fifty, Dhoni brought an end to an almost three-year-long drought for a half-century in the IPL and achieved a unique record. The former CSK skipper became the oldest Indian player in the history of the tournament to score a half-century. He surpassed the record set by Rahul Dravid, who scored a fifty at the age of 40 years and 116 days in 2013.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have witnessed a change in captaincy for the first time since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 as MS Dhoni passed over the baton to star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ahead of IPL 2022. Dhoni stepped down from captaincy earlier this week as Jadeja was handed over captaincy just a couple of days ahead of their opening game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday (March 26).

Many had expected Dhoni to continue leading the side this year having been retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction last month, however, the former CSK skipper once again sprung a surprise in his own style ahead of the season. However, the move was in the making for quite some time and Dhoni had discussed his decision to hand over the captaincy to Jadeja with CSK head coach Stephen Fleming last season.

After CSK's opening game of the ongoing IPL 2022 season against KKR on Saturday, Fleming opened up on the change in captaincy and revealed he spoke about it with Dhoni last year. Fleming also said Dhoni wanted to give Jadeja a clean slate as captain heading into the season so the timing of the decision was his own.

"We talked about it. It's been something MS and I talked about during the last season," Fleming said on Saturday.

"The timing was MS's call. I think it's been documented that he wanted to give Jadeja the clean slate going into the series so it was communicated with Mr. Srinivasan and conveyed to the team. We 100% respect that," added the CSK head coach.

Dhoni and Fleming enjoyed a great captain-coach relationship for CSK as they together took the franchise to greater heights. Fleming has been the head coach of the four-time champions since 2009 and together with Dhoni, he managed to formulate strategies and plans which have worked for the side over the years.

However, Fleming admitted the plans will now have to change a bit with Jadeja taking over captaincy and Dhoni no longer in charge of the team. He insisted having Dhoni still in the squad as a player and utilising his experience to groom Jadeja will be helpful for CSK.

"There's going to be a bit of a transition period as we develop the relationship with Jadeja and also have MS there so you don't just discard a player just because he doesn't have the captaincy tag. You develop the new captain and work with the experience we've got, and thankfully we've got quite a bit of that. It's a little bit of change, but we'll work through that nicely," said the CSK head coach.

Robin Uthappa was tricked by Varun Chakravarty in the eighth over of the Chennai Super Kings innings as the ball skidded off the track and Uthappa missed it completely after stepping out of the crease. Jackson was on the ball in a flash and took off the bails neatly in complete the dismissal. <o:p></o:p>

Agoram revealed Dhoni told him in their first meeting that it was a pleasure to work with him but he would not like advice from the coach until he asked for it himself. Dhoni also told Agoram to conduct his strategy meetings with players and the other backroom staff but to not expect him in such meetings.

"When I had the opportunity to work with Mahendra Singh Dhoni for Pune Super Giants in IPL 2016, the first day we met he said, "Let's have a chat." We were in the Pune Stadium and he was about to put his pads on. He asked if he could get me a filter coffee. "Yes please," I replied. He called the guys there and gave a wink to get a filter coffee, and then continued chatting with me," Agoram wrote in his column for Cricbuzz.

"Look, I know you have a lot of experience in this field and that players like you, and the coach Stephen Fleming got you on board. It's a pleasure to work with you," Dhoni told Agoram.

Agoram went on to state that he was okay with all of Dhoni's conditions and was later stumped by the former CSK captain, who had ordered a masala chai and not a filter coffee for himself and the&nbsp;performance analyst coach. Dhoni later told&nbsp;Agoram&nbsp;that he was good at&nbsp;stumpings.

"I said this was okay. Then finally the filter coffee arrived. I had a sip and it was a masala chai. Dhoni looked at me with a smile and said, "I am good at stumpings"," wrote Agoram.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir hs rubbished the rumours that he doesn't like former India captain MS Dhoni and that all is not well between the two former India teammates. Gambhir and Dhoni shared the Indian dressing room for nearly a decade and were part of some of the most memorable victories for Team India including the ICC T20 World Cup triumph in 2007 and the ICC ODI World Cup win in 2011.

Gambhir made his debut for the Indian team much before Dhoni in 2003 itself but he went on to play for a number of years under the latter's captaincy. Gambhir played an instrumental role in India's 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup wins under Dhoni's captaincy and was Man of the Match in the finals of both the tournaments.

Gambhir was also Dhoni's deputy across formats for a number of years for the Indian team and led the side in the former captain's absence in six matches. When asked why some people think he doesn't like Dhoni, Gambhir called the rumours 'crap' and said he has a lot of mutual respect for the former India captain.

Gambhir also heaped praise on Dhoni for his contributions towards Indian cricket and said he will be the first person to stand next to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain if he is ever in need in life. Gambhir also explained that he and Dhoni might have had their own ways of looking at the game but it was never the case that they didn't like each other or didn't get along well.

"I have lots of mutual respect for MS Dhoni. I have said it on air, I can say it anywhere in front of 138 crore people, if ever in need, I hope he's never in need in life but if he is ever in need, I will be the first person standing next to him because of what he has done for Indian cricket and what he is as a human being," Gambhir told popular sports presenter Jatin Sapru on his show Over &amp; Out.
