<p>Ashwin, destroyer of the West Indies in the first Test in Dominica with an 11-wicket match haul, removed home skipper Kraigg Brathwaite to a top-edged sweep and then had debutant Kirk McKenzie lbw without scoring.</p>

<p>However the obdurate Tagenarine Chanderpaul, very much in the mould of his celebrated father Shivnarine, stayed to the close with vice-captain Jermaine Blackwood.</p>

<p>A target of 289 more runs on a final day pitch should be a step too far for the Caribbean side, especially given the greater experience, competence and confidence of an Indian side pressing for a 2-0 series sweep at the start of the new World Test Championship cycle.</p>

<p>In humid conditions at the start of the day, Siraj claimed the last four wickets to finish with his best Test figures of five for 60 as the West Indies crashed from an overnight position of 229 for five to 255 all out, their last five wickets tumbling for just 26 runs.</p>

<p>Sharma then led the rush for runs with a 35-ball 50 before lunch.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He eventually fell for 57 while his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal was a casualty of a similarly attacking 38 in the three overs which were bowled in the afternoon session.</p>

<p>That was the cue for Kishan to play his natural game and the left-hander did not disappoint, belting an unbeaten 52 off 34 balls with four fours and two sixes embellishing his maiden Test half-century.</p>

<p>"I knew what the team needed from me in a short span of time and the backing of Virat Kohli really relaxed me to play my game," said Kishan at the end of a long final session.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The important thing tomorrow is execution. We have very good bowlers and senior players who always offer advice, but they aren't in a bad position themselves, so tomorrow is about showing what all our preparation for this series was about."</p>

<p>Debutant pacer Mukesh Kumar, who opened the floodgates for Siraj when he trapped Alick Athanaze leg-before in the first over of the day, was rewarded with a share of the new ball in the second innings.</p>

<p>The fourth day started ahead of schedule as rain played spoilsport on the third day. On the first 11 balls of the day, Mukesh Kumar and Siraj sent both the openers back to the pavilion. Captain Rohit handed the ball to Mukesh for the 109th over of the innings, the first of the fourth day. He made Alik Athanaje walk back to the pavilion on the fourth ball of the over. Although Alik took DRS, the decision went in favour of Mukesh. Alik scored 37 runs in 115 balls with the help of 3 fours.</p>

The dismissal, however, was completed with a stunning catch by fast bowler Mohammed Siraj. Blackwood, who was batting at 14 off 34 balls, tried playing a lofted shot over mid-off and almost got through with it before Siraj plucked the ball out of thin air. Jason Holder then joined Alick Athanaze at the crease and the duo added 41 runs for the sixth wicket. It was Mohammed Siraj who removed Holder (18) to help India get the sixth wicket.</p>

<p>West Indies were seven down for 127 at the time of writing this report as Ashwin added another scalp to his name. Alzarri Joseph was the seventh West Indian wicket to fall on a team score of 124.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What happened between Smith and Siraj?</strong></h2>

<p>On the fourth ball of the 86th over, Smith decided to pull out of the delivery at the last moment which sparked the anger for Siraj. Smith pointed towards the sky to indicate something was wrong and distracted his vision while Siraj came into bowl. An angry Siraj, already at the side of the umpire, angrily threw the ball in Smith’s direction.</p>

<p>The situation unfolded&nbsp;after Smith reached his 31st hundred for the Aussies in the Test format. The New South Wales batter leapfrogged Matthew Hayden for most Test hundreds while also bringing up his 43rd international ton. Only Steve Waugh (32) and Ricky Ponting (41) have reached the triple-figure mark on more occasions. Australia would later end their innings at 469 after they were bowled out by Indian bowlers.</p>

<h2><strong>Siraj completes 50 wickets in Tests</strong></h2>

<p>On the flip side, Siraj completed 50 wickets in Test cricket after scalping Nathan Lyon in the 120th over. During the Australian innings, Siraj was the pick of the bowlers for India. He took 4/108 in 28.3 overs. Siraj got the prized wickets of Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, skipper Pat Cummins, and Lyon.</p>

<p>In 19 Tests, Siraj has taken 51 wickets at an average of 30.96. His economy rate is 3.31, with the best bowling figure of 5/73, his solitary five-wicket haul in Test cricket.</p>

<p>India on the other hand did not make the best of starts as they lost both openers Shubman Gill (13) and Rohit Sharma (15) before the lunch break. Skipper Pat Cummins and Scott Boland were the pick of the bowlers for the Aussies as they narrowed India to 37/2 at the break. Virat Kohli was batting on 4 while Cheteshwar Pujara was unbeaten on 3 while India still trailed by 432 runs in the first innings.</p>

<p>On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara, who is already in the UK playing in the County Championship for Sussex, will link up with the squad in London.</p>

<p>For those wondering, the Indian team will not be playing any tour game or a practice match ahead of the 2023 WTC final. As this is an ICC-related event and considering the County is ongoing, the ECB is not obliged to provide BCCI with a slot and a team for a practice match.</p>

<p>“Also, if we play against a select county XI, it will comprise mostly second-team or development squad players, as first-team players are not released during the championship. Playing against a weak opposition doesn’t help in quality practice,” a BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Indian team, who last won an ICC trophy ten years back in 2013 – the Champions Trophy in England, finished second in the maiden WTC final against New Zealand two years ago. <p>India pacer Mohammed Siraj has reported a corrupt approach, made during the India-Australia home ODIs, to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s Anti Corruption Unit (ACU). As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, Siraj was approached during the home ODIs, which Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. lost 2-1 to the Men in Yellow, right before IPL 2023, and promptly reported the matter to ACU officials.</p>

<p>"It wasn't a bookie who approached Siraj. It is a driver from Hyderabad who is addicted to betting on matches," a senior BCCI source told PTI. "He had lost huge money, and approached Siraj for inside information.</p>

<p>"Siraj reported the approach immediately. The law enforcement authorities have nabbed the man. More details are being awaited."</p>

"He had lost huge money, and approached Siraj for inside information. "Siraj reported the approach immediately. The law enforcement authorities have nabbed the man. More details are being awaited." <p>Siraj, who was retained by the RCB ahead of IPL 2021, further added, "When you perform well, people start praising you so much, You are such a good bowler, next level. When I was retained, it was called as best retention. Now they question why I was retained? There was no need for you to be retained. You aren’t good enough to play cricket."</p>

<p>“Thank you for all the support but don’t abuse anyone. Ups and downs are part of life. That’s all I can say. Rest is up to you. You are aware of our struggle still you behave like that with us. That doesn’t affect us much but as a human, all I can ask from you is respect everyone," the RCB pacer&nbsp;added.</p>

Williamson played an unbeaten knock of 121 runs and scored the winning run to take the Kiwis home. On the flip side, Williamson also scored a hundred in the final match against England in what was the fourth time a team had won a match after following on.</p>

<p>At the Wankhede Stadium, Shami accounted for three Australian wickets, two of which, Josh Inglis and Cameron Green, were bowled. Detailing on how it was to bowl in such conditions, Shami said earlier it wasn’t easy as it was hot, but later with the help of some breeze, he could get the ball to talk.</p>

<p>"The plan was to keep it simple. We had discussed in the team meeting as well to make a good start, to keep the ball in good areas and stick to our line and length," Shami told Siraj. "The heat was also an issue. When we bowled the first spell it was hot but later it got a bit better to bowl when the wind started blowing."</p>

<p>Ahead of the first One-Dayer, Shami didn’t train with the team. Explaining the reason behind the same, Shami said because he required rest to get back to being 100% after bowling nearly 40 overs in the Ahmedabad Test, he requested the management for extra rest.</p>

<p>"After 40 overs of the Ahmedabad Test, I needed 1-2 days to recover. I completed that recovery and came here for the match. The management accepted that I needed recovery. We have played so many matches that we know our skills and ability. So it is important that we recover properly to perform better," Shami added.</p>

<p>On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj opened up on his love of bowling in-swingers, especially to the lefties, during the Powerplay.</p>

<p>"When I get the new ball, I try to bowl in-swing. Like when there is a left-hander, I try to bowl in-swing. I wanted to take as many wickets in the Powerplay. I got one wicket," Siraj said.</p>

<p>Both seamers did the damage in the second half of the Australian innings, picking up three wickets each. While Shami returned with figures of three for 17 in six overs, Shami conceded 29 runs for his quota of three wickets.</p>

<p>The second ODI will begin on Sunday, March 19th in Vizag.</p>

After the umpire turned down the appeal, skipper Rohit decided to take the decision upstairs. As the review turned out to be successful, Rohit &amp; Co. were on cloud nine.
