Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are on their three-day journey in Nigeria. The couple kicked off their trip on May 10 by visiting a school in the capital city of Abuja, where they took part in the mental health summit.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got a warm welcome from the Igbo ethnic group, who performed on the heavy beats of drums. During the first day of the event, Harry talked about mental health and Markle was all things proud of him.

At the event, Harry took the mic as he addressed the stigma around mental health. “In some cases around the world, in more than you would believe, there is a stigma when it comes to mental health.”

''So therefore, you have to look after yourself to be able to look after other people. And other people have to be able to look after themselves, to look after you. That’s the way it works. And there is no shame to be able to acknowledge that today is a bad day, okay?”

After Harry's speech, Meghan took the stage as she went on to gush over her husband's words on mental health.

“You see why I'm married to him?,” Meghan said.

Meghan Markle reveals why she married Prince Harry during Nigeria trip

A glimpse of Meghan Markle's new business venture has been teased on social media. It seems the Duchess of Sussex is launching strawberry jams but full details about the new product are still under wraps.

In a bid to preserve a sense of mystery, the jam from the new American Riviera Orchard brand seemed to have been first delivered to friends of the Duchess and other influencers.

Fashion designer Tracy Robbins posted a picture of the jam on Instagram. The jam was numbered '17 of 50' - suggesting the number of recipients of this product. Delfina Blaquier, married to Prince Harry's polo-playing friend Nacho Figueras, also posted a picture of the new jam with the label "10 of 50".

The arrival of Meghan's new California-based lifestyle brand launched on social media last month and the new images on social media suggest that the brand will be selling food products.

It seems there has been a re-launch of sorts for Meghan and husband Prince Harry's brands and businesses this year, beginning with the overhaul of their website under the sussex.com label.

Their latest projects seem to be moving away from their earlier projects which focussed more on their royal identity, such as their Netflix film Harry and Meghan and Prince Harry's memoir Spare.

The hint about the strawberry jam from Meghan's American Riviera Orchard brand seems to fit with the couple's latest Netflix plans.

Meghan is going to launch a Netflix show which will "celebrate the joys of cooking and gardening, entertaining, and friendship".

Meghan Markle is back on Instagram. The Duchess of Sussex announced a new venture as she returned to the photo-sharing platform with a surprise new project called American Riviera Orchard. The Instagram page for what appears to be a lifestyle brand carried a bio that reads: "By Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. Established 2024."

What is American Riviera Orchard?

From what we understand, American Riviera Orchard seems to be a nod to Santa Barbara, the California town where Meghan and her husband Prince Harry reside with their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Most locals call Santa Barbara the “American Riviera”. This, is “because of its temperate climate and lush landscapes”. Locals also highly publicise its world-class wine culture.

Meghan Markle’s new venture comes with a logo that includes the name Montecito, the name of the neighbourhood where they reside.

Once approved, American Riviera Orchard will sell tableware, drinkware including decanters, kitchen linens and edible treats such as jellies, jams, marmalade and spreads. The trademark application is also seeking approval for cookbooks.

Meghan Markle can finally put her legal quarrels with half-sister behind her as the court granted a motion to dismiss the case in its entirety. This comes after almost two years of litigation and several amended complaints. US District Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell ruled in favour of Meghan Markle and threw out the defamation case from her half-sister Samantha Markle.

Judge dismisses defamation case

In a 58-page order issued on March 12, the Florida-based judge presiding over the case ruled, “The Court grants the motion to dismiss, in full. Plaintiff’s claims will be dismissed with prejudice, as she has failed to identify any statements that could support a claim for defamation or defamation-by-implication by this point, her third try at amending her complaint, in either the book Finding Freedom, the Netflix series Harry & Meghan, or Defendant and her husband’s hour-long televised CBS Interview.”

Samantha had filed a case against half-sister Meghan over her “false and malicious comments” about her, the elder offspring of Thomas Markle Sr. She also said that the estranged royal has on many occasions claimed to be “an only child” in various interviews.

The court ruled, “Defendant’s answer, in context, is clearly her opinion of her own childhood and relationship with Plaintiff. It is neither objectively verifiable nor subject to empirical proof. Therefore, it cannot support a claim for defamation and must be dismissed.”

After the ruling came out, Meghan Markle’s lawyer said, “We are pleased with the Court’s ruling dismissing the case.”

Meanwhile, Meghan recently made a public outing on the opening day of SXSW 2024. On a panel with Brooke Shields, sociologist Nancy Wang Yuen, and Katie Couric, Meghan spoke about social media being “toxic” in the modern world.

Meghan Markle is reflecting on the trolling she got on social media when she was pregnant with Archie and Lilibet. The Duchess of Sussex criticised the 'endless toxicity' of the social media platform while speaking on the occasion of International Women's Day.

During her appearance at the SXSW festival in Austin Texas, Meghan spoke during the panel called “Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen.''

Speaking in front of her husband, Prince Harry and the audience, Markle talked about the negative impact of social media.

“Yes, social media is an environment that has a lot of that [toxicity] …I keep my distance from it right now just for my own wellbeing,” she said.

Meghan added how people have forgotten humanity in the digital space as she shared the ''bullying and abuse'' that she faced when she was pregnant with Archie and Lili.

“You have to really wrap your head around why people would be so hateful. It’s not catty — it’s cruel,” she said.

And maybe in some regards, that mammalian instinct just kicked in: ‘Do everything you can to protect your child’ and as a result protect yourself too,” Meghan added.

The 42-year-old went on to target several platforms for spreading hate and conspiracy theories that may hurt someone's mental health.

“I cannot make sense of that, because I understand that there are certain platforms, today is a really good example, this is being streamed on one of those platforms, and it’s also fantastic because people are going to have access to hear all of this brilliance and all of this insight, and at the same time, it’s a platform that has quite a bit of hate and rhetoric and incentivizes people to create pages where they can churn out very, very inciting comments and conspiracy theories that can have a tremendously negative effect on someone’s mental health, on their physical safety,” said Meghan.

'We've forgotten our humanity': Meghan Markle on social media toxicity:

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing the heat for launching a new website called Sussex.com. The couple launched the website on Monday which many are terming as a new rebranding move. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's website will carry the latest news about the couple, bios for Harry and Meghan as well as links to their Archewell Foundation organisation and Archewell Productions hubs.

The website was earlier called Archwell and has now been rebranded as sussex.com. The homepage features a photo of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Germany at the 2023 Invictus Games closing ceremony.

Interestingly, the bios of their two kids refer to them as 'Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet'. The move has surprised many since Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior members of the royal family in 2020 and since then moved to the US with their family.

Meghan Markle, in a letter, explains that the rebranding reflects their desire to share more personal updates with fans.

"Our lifelong advocacy for women and girls remains a constant thread in our humanitarian and business ventures," she stated, underscoring her dedication to feminist ideals and gender equity.

Prince Harry (The Duke of Sussex) wrote about his unwavering dedication to making a difference through impactful causes throughout his adult life.

"The international event INVICTUS GAMES FOUNDATION is a globally celebrated display of resilience, community, and athleticism that has won acclaim for its impact in celebrating those that serve," he highlighted, pointing to his ongoing commitment to supporting wounded service personnel.

However, the Duke did not mention his royal lineage and United Kingdom in his bio.

According to the statements issued, by embracing "The Office of Prince Harry & Meghan, The Duke & Duchess of Sussex," the couple aims to showcase their passions and endeavours in various aspects of life, asserting their identities beyond traditional royal responsibilities.

Netizens react

However, the bios and the website name have not gone down well with netizens on social media who have been quick to rebuke the couple.

"Prince Harry and Meghan's Biographies are immaculate! Come on," said a reader. "This signifies their Hollywood failure and inability to succeed in their numerous business ventures. So they are falling back on the only thing they know to do and what can make them any money, trading off their royal titles. This is pathetic and demonstrates, yet again, why the titles must be removed," an X user wrote.

"Umm, these two nincompoops do realize they are not “Sussex,” right? The gall of buying Sussex.com, and including a royal crest, though they hate the royals, is ridiculous," another user commented.

"'The Office of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex' Grandiose, arrogant & self-serving," another wrote.

Ever since they quit their roles in the royal family, Harry and Meghan have openly discussed the differences they've had with certain members of the family, sparking a cold war with Prince William and King Charles.

Prince Harry's fight for security in the UK continues. Harry believes that he and his family can never feel safe during visits home without adequate security. The youngest son of King Charles III quit the British royal family with his wife Meghan in early 2020, and moved to California, US.

He has brought a case against the British government at the High Court in London after his UK taxpayer-funded protection was removed.

A hearing has been taking place since Tuesday, with only the opening and closing sessions open to the media and public for security reasons.

On Thursday, his lawyer Shaheed Fatima said Harry did not accept that he chose to stop being a "full-time working member of the royal family".

Fatima read his written statement to the court, which said, "It was with great sadness for both of us that my wife and I felt forced to step back from this role and leave the country in 2020.

"The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the US.

"That cannot happen if it's not possible to keep them safe when they are on UK soil.

"I cannot put my wife in danger like that and, given my experiences in life, I am reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm's way too."

Harry's lawyers have argued that the decision to change his security arrangements came after his departure from the UK. They termed the move as "unlawful and unfair" considering his royal status and his mother Princess Diana's death.

She was killed in a high-speed car crash in Paris in 1997 as she tried to escape paparazzi photographers.

Meanwhile, lawyers for the government reject that he was "singled out" and treated "less favourably" or that a proper risk analysis was not carried out.

A judgment in the case -- one of five involving Harry at the High Court -- will be given at a later date.

Prince Harry says UK not safe for him and family without security: Cannot put my wife in danger

Famous British broadcaster Piers Morgan, who recently revealed the names of two royal family members who had expressed 'concern' over the colour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's then-unborn child, has explained why he decided to reveal the names in the first place. Piers Morgan on why he revealed names of racist royal family members: Fed up with the secrecy

Popular British broadcaster Piers Morgan has revealed the names of two royals who were allegedly concerned about the skin colour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son Archie. The names of these members were accidentally mentioned in Dutch copies Omid Scobie’s new biography, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival and was later called back from being launched.

Morgan revealed the names of the two royals in Wednesday's episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored. According to Morgan, the names are King Charles III and Princess Kate Middleton, wife of Prince William, Harry’s older brother.

In the book, Scobie claims Markle wrote private letters to Charles, Harry's father, naming two royals who took part in alleged “troubling” conversations surrounding the couple's then-unborn son’s complexion.

In the final edition of the book — which covers the state of the British monarchy following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022 — Scobie does not name the family members who were said to have questioned the tone of Archie’s skin due to libel laws.

The published passage reads, “Even after Meghan and Charles by letter discussed probable unconscious bias within the family after it was revealed that (redacted) took part in such conversations about Archie, (redacted) has avoided discussing the subject with (redacted).”

However, several copies of the Dutch version of the book mentioned the names.

Omid Scobie's latest book, Endgame, focusing on the royal family, has been temporarily taken off shelves in the Netherlands. The Dutch translation, published by Xander, faced suspension due to what is being described as an "error."

The controversy stems from Meghan Markle's 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where she mentioned concerns about her son Archie's skin colour raised by an unnamed royal family member. Xander, in a statement, acknowledged the error in the Dutch translation and stated that corrective measures are underway.

“[We are] temporarily withdrawing the book by Omid Scobie from sale. An error occurred in the Dutch translation and is currently being rectified," the statement read.

Scobie insists he did not mention names in the book. Despite his assertion, reports indicate that an advance review copy sent to Dutch journalists may reveal the identity of the royal figure in question.

Scobie's book alleges Meghan wrote a letter to Prince Charles after the Oprah interview, expressing concerns about bias in the royal family. The letter supposedly discloses the identities of individuals expressing worries about Archie's skin colour. Legal constraints prevent Scobie from explicitly naming them.

In response to Meghan's claims, Prince William stated, "We are very much not a racist family." The royal family acknowledged varying recollections but expressed concern about the interview's issues.

Meghan Markle's skin colour allegation: Book pulled from Dutch shelves over 'error'

The animated series Family Guy has mocked Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in its latest episode. The show's Sunday episode features Peter Griffin (voiced by series creator Seth MacFarlane) sitting in a bar with friends pondering how to get back money he is owed when he jokes that he’ll "go it alone, just like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry."

The scene then shows the cartoon versions of Harry and Meghan lying poolside as a butler approaches with an envelope.

The butler says, "Sir, your millions from Netflix for… no one knows what." The animated Prince Harry waves him away and says, "Put it with the rest of them."

The cartoon version of Meghan Markle is then shown to get a notification on her phone. She says, "Babe, time to do our daily $250,000 sponsored Instagram post for Del Taco."

The animated prince sighs and says, "I shouldn’t have left the made-up nonsense."

The dig comes after the couple's deals in Hollywood faced criticism within the industry.

In June, Bill Simmons, head of Spotify’s global sports content, called the couple out after their multimillion-dollar deal with the audio platform ended, shortly after the last airing of Markle’s podcast Archetypes.

During an episode of Bill Simmons Podcast, he called Harry and Meghan "f---ing grifters" and added, "I gotta get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories," Simmons said.

United Talent Agency CEO Jeremy Zimmer also took a dig at Markle after the end of Archetypes, telling news website Semafor earlier this year, "Turns out Meghan Markle was not a great audio talent, or necessarily any kind of talent."

"And, you know, just because you're famous doesn't make you great at something," he added.

Harry and Meghan signed a multiyear production deal with Netflix in 2020, and have so far released three docuseries - Harry and Meghan, Heart of Invictus and Live to Lead. There is also a scripted project in the works, with the couple purchasing the rights to Carley Fortune's romance novel Meet Me at the Lake.

As for the Instagram quip, the couple does not post sponsored content on their social media. However, there was speculation that Markle could make up to $1 million a post if she chose to do so.

The Family Guy dig comes after Comedy Central’s South Park previously poked fun at Harry and Meghan in an episode titled The Worldwide Privacy Tour.

The episode had them being called royalty in Canada and being depicted as wanting privacy and seeking attention simultaneously, appearing on talk shows and stages around the world.

Not a new show but something we have seen and loved for so many years is climbing up the charts for most-watched titles on Netflix. The streamer recently revealed that legal drama Suits has been atop their streaming chart for the most number of weeks now. It is only recently that Suits has found its way to the streamer.

Suits spent its 12th consecutive week at the top of Nielsen’s rankings, which go back three years. Five titles had more than a billion minutes of viewing for the week, with Netflix’s Virgin River coming in second behind Suits. One Piece (1.39 billion minutes), the streaming debut of The Little Mermaid (1.37 billion) and SWAT (1.04 billion) also made it to the list.

Among the top 10 in the original series list, what made a space was The Wheel of Time (515 million minutes of viewing), Only Murders in the Building (470 million), Ahsoka (459 million) and Special Ops: Lioness (342 million) were all fairly steady compared to a week earlier.

For the unversed, Nielsen’s streaming ratings cover viewing on TV sets only and don’t include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure US audiences, not those in other countries.

The actor added, “It was an embarrassing oversight for which I’m incredibly sorry,” he added. “So grateful to those who gently and swiftly course corrected me here and I look forward to continuing the fight in the days and weeks ahead. #sagaftrastrong”

Suits was always popular but it became a bigger deal after it debuted on Netflix sometime back.

As for the SAG-AFTRA strike, it’s still going on strong. The WGA strike has been called off after the union members and the studios struck a lucrative deal.

David and Victoria Beckham are no longer friends with Harry and Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been threatened with defamation by YouTuber Shallon Lester. The royal couple's documentary, released last year, claimed that a majority of the negative comments posted against them were from select few accounts and Lester's image was shown as an example of one of those accounts. Lester has made several videos discussing Harry and Meghan's relationship in the past.

However, in a new video she shared earlier this week, she raised objections over the usage of her image.

"Believe me when I say I’m pursuing every opportunity – my lawyer's gonna be mad at me – to nail their a-- to the wall for this," she declared in the video. "It's defamation, it’s slander, it’s a mischaracterisation. And you know what else it is? Misinformation."

She went on to say, "Meghan and Harry can't seem to accept the plain truth: people don't like them. They don't like them on a micro level, people like me, where I'm like, ‘I can see what a s---ty a--- person you are, Meghan. I can see how manipulative you are.’"

While addressing Markle, Lester said, "And truly if you wanted to make content, bro, do it about that. I would watch the heck out of a TED Talk with you saying, ‘Here’s how to get your teeth into a rich man. Here's how to divide him from a family that's going to take something off your plate.'"

She did not share any further details of any plans for a possible lawsuit, though she did go on to discuss the Spotify controversy.

Meghan Markle and Spotify controversy

According to a news report, several sources have claimed that a lot of the work on Markle's now-defunct podcast Archetype was done by staffers while her voice and questions were edited into audio after the interviews had been recorded.

Senior Spotify podcast executive Bill Simmons seemed to corroborate these claims during a recent episode of his podcast, calling both Markle and Prince Harry "f---ing grifters."

Jeremy Zimmer, the CEO of United Talent Agency, one of the biggest talent agencies in Hollywood, also commented on Markle's podcast hosting capabilities.

"Turns out Meghan Markle was not a great audio talent, or necessarily any kind of talent," Zimmer told global news website Semafor when asked about the podcast cancellation at the 2023 Cannes Lions advertising festival in Cannes, France. "And, you know, just because you're famous doesn't make you great at something," he added.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry threatened with defamation lawsuit by YouTuber

A little over a week back it was announced that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry organisation Archewell had mutually parted ways with Spotify and ended its contract with the audio streaming app. Now latest reports claim that Taylor Swift had apparently rejected an offer to feature in Markle's podcast which is now defunct.

News reports claim that Markle had personally written to Swift requesting her to feature on the podcast but the singer rejected the offer via a representative, states a report by the Wall Street Journal.

The Sussexs and their multi-million deals

The report also throws light on the relationships the Duke and Duchess have curated in Hollywood since their departure as senior members of the royal family in 2020. The couple since then has established their nonprofit organisation Archewell and signed multi-million dollar deals with Netflix and Spotify the same year.

The first production since their deal with Netflix was the documentary Harry & Meghan which premiered on December 2022.

According to the report, employees felt that the documentary was critical for continuing the relationship with Netflix.

While the documentary did well on the streaming app, their second project, Live to Lead, which debuted weeks later, failed to reach Netflix's top 10. Their children's programme, Pearl, was previously scrapped by the streaming service.

The couple has several projects in the works with the platform, though insiders have told Wall Street Journal that Netflix will likely not renew their deal which expires in 2025.

Things with Spotify also did not turn out the way the streaming service had initially envisioned. While Markle's podcast Archetypes was an immediate hit, with the podcast featuring special guests Serena Williams, Mariah Carey and Mindy Kaling in the first three episodes, the officials were not happy about Prince Harry's non-involvement.

The initial deal with Spotify reportedly included "each of the Sussexes voicing and being directly involved in a podcast."

Despite their success, their work was reportedly not without flaws. People who worked for the couple stated that the couple was not experienced in the podcast space and lacked direction. They also underestimated the amount of work it would take to produce content.

Meanwhile, it is a well-known fact that both Spotify and Netflix had been cutting costs – and content – and sources feel the axe on the Harry and Meghan's deal came for similar reasons. They also feel that the streaming giants felt that the couple had not been producing as much as they had expected.

Prince Harry and Meghan's lucrative podcast deal ends as Spotify parts ways with the couple

Prince Harry is on Tuesday expected to take the witness stand in a London court as part of claims against a British tabloid publisher, the latest in his legal battles with the press.

King Charles III's younger son will become the first senior British royal to give evidence in court for more than a century when he testifies against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN).

He and various other high-profile claimants accuse it of unlawful activities, including phone hacking.

The case is one of several that the 38-year-old prince has brought against British newspaper groups since stepping down from frontline royal duties in early 2020 and eventually relocating to California with his American wife Meghan Markle.

Harry's lawyer David Sherborne told London's High Court on Monday that the prince was targeted by illegal information-gathering even as a young schoolboy and his phone would have been hacked on "multiple occasions".

"No aspect of the young prince's life was safe" from press intrusion, he submitted.

Representing MGN, publisher of The Mirror and The Sunday People tabloids, barrister Andrew Green said there was "no evidence" that Harry's phone was tapped.

The prince had been expected to appear in the courtroom Monday but did not take part in the hearing because of flying to the UK late Sunday after celebrating his daughter Lilibet's second birthday, according to Sherborne.

The case against MGN centres on claims its tabloids conducted unlawful information-gathering to obtain stories about Harry and other claimants, including two TV soap opera actors and the ex-wife of a comedian.

At the start of the trial on May 10, MGN apologised and admitted to "some evidence" of unlawful information-gathering, including for a story about Harry.

But it denied voicemail tapping and also argued that some claims had been brought too late.

Sherborne submitted that "industrial scale" illegal activities were happening at MGN and had been approved by senior executives.

Harry, who is fifth in line to the throne, has had a turbulent relationship with the press and holds the media responsible for the death of his mother Princess Diana, who died in a Paris car crash in 1997 while being pursued by paparazzi.

In television interviews and his explosive memoir "Spare" -- released in January -- Harry hit out at other royals, accusing them of colluding with the press.

In court filings unveiled in April, Harry claimed the royal family as an institution had struck a "secret agreement" with one UK publisher that had prevented him from suing, to avoid a royal entering the witness box.

He also alleged the monarchy wanted to prevent the opening of a "Pandora's Box" of negative coverage that could tarnish the royal brand.

The prince has vowed to spearhead efforts to enforce change on Britain's tabloid media, and the MGN trial is one of several ongoing legal battles he has launched against the press.

They include joint legal action against Associated Newspapers (ANL), publisher of the Daily Mail, over alleged breaches of privacy.

The California-based prince made a surprise appearance at the High Court in March to hear legal arguments in the case, but did not give in-person evidence.

His testimony on Tuesday will be the first time a senior royal has given evidence in court since Edward VII, who took the stand in an 1890 slander trial before becoming monarch.

Charles's sister Princess Anne became the first member of the current royal family to be convicted of a criminal offence after one of her dogs bit two children in 2002.

She pleaded guilty to an offence under the Dangerous Dogs Act so was not required to give evidence in court.

Prince Harry to testify against British tabloid publisher

Meghan Markle's claim that she was objectified on the Deal or No Deal sets has been shut down by the show's official. Lucas Green is the chief content officer of the production company that backs the popular reality show. While speaking to Variety, Lucas Green reacted to the claim that the show objectified bimbos.

Green told the outlet, "No, but we are constantly evolving the format so that it isn’t the same show it was 15-plus years ago."

Green continued, "A lot of work goes into modernizing our formats to ensure they represent our values as a company and wider society. The UK version, for example, will continue to use members of the public from all walks of life to open the boxes (instead of models)."

In October last year, Markle had opened up about her time on the show Deal or No Deal as a briefcase model in an episode of Archetypes podcast with guest Paris Hilton.

The Duchess of Sussex said she quit the game show after a year because she was "objectified."

"I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage," Markle said. "I didn’t like feeling forced to be all looks and little substance."

She claimed that the women featured as models on the show would get spray tans and apply false eyelashes before walking on stage. "There was a very cookie-cutter idea of precisely what we should look like," Markle shared.

"It was solely about beauty, and not necessarily about brains. I was surrounded by smart women on that stage with me, but that wasn’t the focus of why we were there and I would end up leaving with this pit in my stomach. Like I said, I was thankful for the job but not for how it made me feel, which was not smart."

Markle featured on the US version of Deal or No Deal from 2006-2007. The show was hosted by Howie Mandel. Markle was one of a number of women who wore glamorous outfits as they opened briefcases to reveal contestants' prizes.

Meghan Markle's claim of being objectified on Deal or No Deal shut down by show official

It was a scary evening for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry after they were involved in a car crash but what’s scarier for them is that none of the agencies in America will hand over them the footage of the reported “catastrophic” car chase as demanded by them. In a witty response to their demand for the footage be turned to them, a US agency said, “rejected” before answering the couple’s lawyers.

The US agency wrote back saying, "In America, as I'm sure you know, property belongs to the owner of it: Third parties cannot just demand it be given to them, as perhaps Kings can do." They further suggested that the lawyers sit down with Harry and Meghan to explain that "his English rules of the royal prerogative to demand that the citizenry hand over their property to the Crown were rejected by this country long ago," adding, "We stand by our founding fathers."

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were trailed in their car by the paparazzi in New York as they left a charity event on Tuesday night where Meghan was honoured for her work. The couple and Meghan's mother took a brief refuge at a police station before being whisked away in a yellow cab, which an Indian-origin man was incidentally driving.

The pursuit and media frenzy on Tuesday brought back horrific memories of the 1997 car chase through Paris that killed Harry’s mother, Princess Diana. On Tuesday though, no one was hurt.

The incident was reported by their spokesperson on Wednesday, revealing that the couple were involved in a "near catastrophic car chase," through the streets of Manhattan.

That account led New York City Mayor Eric Adams to condemn the paparazzi chasing them as “reckless and irresponsible.”

However, New York police later stated that the pursuit was relatively short and led to no injuries, collisions or arrests and hence warranted no further investigations.

Indian cab driver to rescue

The cab driver who drove them from the police station said he instantly recognised his passengers and claimed that paparazzi “were following us the whole time,” but added that he wouldn’t call it a chase. “They had this look on their faces,” the driver, Sukhcharn Singh, said. “All of a sudden paparazzi came out and started taking pictures.”

Singh told news agency AP that he was a witness to only some part of the drama. Not calling his drive a dangerous chase by photographers, he said, “I was on 67th Street and then the security guard hailed me. Next thing you know, Prince Harry and his wife were hopping into my cab.”

“We got blocked by a garbage truck, and all of a sudden paparazzi came and started taking pictures. They looked nervous, I think they were being chased the whole day or something,” he said, adding, “They were pretty nervous, but the security guard, he was on it.”

Police issued a short statement confirming an incident Tuesday night involving photographers and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
In New York on Tuesday night, the couple left Manhattan’s Ziegfeld Ballroom — where Meghan was honoured at the Ms. Foundation’s Woman of Vision Awards with Black Voters Matter co-founder LaTosha Brown. Post event the couple and Meghan's mother got into an SUV as crowds of pedestrians and photographers cheered.

Harry and Meghan’s vehicle was then followed by photographers in a scene that their office said “resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers.” The couple’s office called the incident “near catastrophic.”

Police eventually intervened and led them inside a police station, 18 blocks from the ballroom. The three spent several minutes at the station and once they felt it was safe, opted to leave in a taxi.

The award presentation was Meghan and Harry's first public appearance since the coronation of King Charles III earlier this month. Harry had attended the coronation alone while Meghan stayed back in California for her son Prince Archie’s fourth birthday.
