<p>Picking right up from where he had left, Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler Mayank Yadav silenced the Chinnaswamy crowd with his rapid pace by tearing into the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batting lineup.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Defending a competitive target of 182, skipper KL Rahul summoned Yadav into the attack in the sixth over with RCB one down. On the very first ball, Yadav hustled opposition captain Faf du Plessis who rushed to take a suicidal single, only to find himself miles short of the crease.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the next over, Yadav continued to bowl thunderbolts above 150 and managed to clean up Australia's Cameron Green who could not make head or tail of the trajectory of the ball.</p>

<p>Cameron's countrymate Glenn Maxwell did not last long either and departed a ball later, attempting to pull a back-of-length delivery into the stands. Once again, it was Yadav's express pace that troubled the batter. The ex-players, pundits and fans thoroughly appreciated Yadav's energetic spell, with many asking the BCCI to include him in the T20 World Cup squad.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Indian cricket seems to have unearthed a new pace bowling sensation in Mayank Yadav – a 21-year-old seamer from Delhi who made headlines for clocking over 150 kph during his IPL 2024 debut on Saturday (March 30). Playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Mayank broke Punjab Kings’ back with a stunning spell of three for 27, restricting them within the target and helping LSG register their first win this season.</p>

<p>LSG's new captain for the Punjab game, Nicholas Pooran, introduced Mayank into the attack after the Powerplay, and the lanky seamer hogged all the attention with his first delivery, searing over 147 kph, with his 155.8 kph being the quickest this season.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bought at his base price of INR 20 lakh at the IPL 2022 auction, Mayank remained on the sidelines last year due to injuries. However, upon getting a chance this season, he made headlines worldwide with his whirlwind spell.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking after winning the Player of the Match award, Mayank said he waited for this moment for a long time, adding he didn’t think it would go this well.</p>

<p>"I didn't really think it [my debut] would go that well. I have heard from the others that there can be nervousness on debut. But after the first ball, all my nervousness went away," Mayank said at the post-match presentation. "Everyone said to not take too much pressure, just bowl on the stumps, and use the pace. That's what I did,” the seamer added.</p>

<p>Detailing on bowling bouncers upfront, Mayank said he thought of deceiving batters with some odd slower ones; it was only after receiving Pooran's advice of going all out with his pace that Mayank terrorised batters with his stock delivery.</p>

<p>"I thought I might need to use the slower ball, but there was help from the wicket, the captain [Nicholas Pooran] said to just go with the pace," Mayank revealed. "The debut wicket was my favourite."</p>

While the win was satisfying, it was the emergence of another young pacer, capable of bowling 150+ thunderbolts&nbsp;that must have delighted the LSG and Indian cricket fans alike.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mayank Yadav, playing his debut IPL match, bowled the fastest ball of the tournament at 155.8 kmph before sending off Bairstow to the pavilion on the very next delivery. In the process, he broke the 102-run opening stand between the Englishman and Dhawan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After Bairstow's departure, the PBKS innings never really recovered and Yadav was at the heart of it. His performance rejuvenated the LSG fielders who had been deflated by the pyrotechnics from the opening duo.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The blistering pace of the 21-year-old ensured that other bowlers took inspiration. Mohsin Khan took the big wickets of Dhawan and Sam Curran in consecutive deliveries which completely broke the PBKS spine.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>LSG's aggressive batting</strong>&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Batting first, LSG could have easily scored anything above 220, if it wasn't for the starts thrown away by the batters. Quinton de Kock led the pack from the start and batted sensibly, reaching his 21st half-century. KL Rahul, who was not in the playing XI and brought in as an impact substitute, owing to the management wanting him to ease slowly following an injury setback, could not get going. He was the first to depart by smashing one straight to Bairstow at backward point.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Devdutt Padikkal's struggles in the middle continued and he fell prey to Sam Curran who was introduced in the final over of the powerplay for his second spell.</p>

<p>Despite the wickets, LSG never took the foot off the pedal. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis came in at No. 4 for a short intent-filled cameo and Pooran was always about keeping the run-rate turbo-charged. The West Indian took calculated risks to ensure the scoreboard was always moving.</p>

The news was confirmed by head coach Justin Langer with no replacement being announced as Willey is expected to return to India after a short break.</p>

<p>West Indies' newest pace sensation, Shamar Joseph, has been rewarded for his brave outing in the famous Gabba win with an IPL contract. Joseph has replaced England seamer Mark Wood in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad for INR 3 crores, an IPL statement said on Saturday (Feb 10).</p>

<p>As per the statement, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) pulled out Wood from IPL 2024 (starting mid-March) to manage his workload.</p>

<p>Considering the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA (which begins on June 3) that follows, England wants its seamers, mainly injury-prone ones, including Wood and recovering Jofra Archer, to not participate in the 17th season of the Indian Premier League.</p>

<p>With England hosting West Indies and Sri Lanka after the marquee event, the former T20 WC winners are keen on protecting their centrally-contracted players.</p>

There were some big names like Jofra Archer from Mumbai Indians and Ben Stokes from Chennai Super Kings who were released by the teams as the ten franchises gear up for the player auction. <p>The two buried their hatchet with a warm hug, which received rousing applause from the Delhi crowd. Gautam Gambhir -- former Indian opener and LSG mentor who is on commentary duty in CWC 2023 --&nbsp;lauded Kohli for his gesture. Talking to Jatin Sapru, he said on air,&nbsp;"That's a great gesture and I hope from here on, in the upcoming matches, in every one, people are reminded of Virat's gesture because every professional cricketer works hard to make it to this level to play for the country, to play in the IPL."</p>

<p>"If you can't support anyone, don't criticise him. You have the right to support your favourite player but you don't have any to criticise a player," the former batter further opined.</p>

<p>Former selection committee head MSK Prasad joined the backroom staff of IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as a strategic consultant on Thursday, August 17. His appointment comes as a second high-profile selection for LSG ahead of IPL 2024 after former Australia legend Justin Langer was announced as the head coach of the side, replacing Zimbabwean veteran Andy Flower.</p>

<p>Besides serving as the boss of the selection committee, Prasad has held the post of Director of Cricket Operations at the domestic level for his state Andhra Pradesh.</p>

<p>"His involvement at RPSG Sports will be instrumental in providing essential guidance across a spectrum of critical domains as Head of Talent Search, talent development and our academy business," LSG said in a statement.</p>

<p>The franchise’s 360-degree integrated marketing campaign highlighted fan engagement in over 100 sites across Uttar Pradesh, several on-ground activations to build LSG’s 6000+ strong fan club “LSG Brigade”, as well as extensive coverage across online and print media in multiple languages.&nbsp; The team led by KL Rahul reached the playoffs of the IPL 2023 before they faced elimination in the Eliminator.</p>
