The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the rescheduling of Match No. 19 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/lucknow-super-giants">Lucknow Super Giants</a> (LSG). Originally set for Sunday, April 6, at <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/eden-gardens">Eden Gardens</a>, Kolkata, the match will now take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 3:30 PM IST.
The decision comes following a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) regarding personnel deployment across the city due to Ram Navami festivities. As a result, April 6 will now feature only one match, with Sunrisers Hyderabad hosting Gujarat Titans at 7:30 PM IST (Match No. 20), as originally scheduled.

<h2>Mixed start for KKR, LSG</h2>
With this adjustment, April 8 becomes a double-header match day. The rescheduled KKR vs. LSG match will be played in the afternoon at Eden Gardens, followed by Punjab Kings taking on Chennai Super Kings (Match No. 22) in New Chandigarh in the evening, as per the original fixture.
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehashish Ganguly, brother of batting legend and former India and KKR captain Sourav Ganguly, had recently too had urged the BCCI to reschedule the match.
Both <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/kolkata-knight-riders">Kolkata Knight Riders</a> and Lucknow Super Giants have had mixed starts to their IPL 2025 campaigns.
Defending champions KKR lost their opening match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets at Eden Gardens but bounced back with a six-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Meanwhile, LSG suffered a dramatic last-over defeat to Delhi Capitals, who chased down 210, before securing a dominant win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, chasing 191 with 23 balls to spare at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Nicholas Pooran, in the two matches played so far in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, has become a menace for bowlers. The batter has faced only 56 balls in total but managed to hit 145 runs off them at a sensational strike rate of 258.
Pooran has also hit 13 sixes in two matches or roughly one every four balls. This is in stark contrast to his 2021 IPL season where he could manage only five sixes in 76 balls he faced in 11 innings. The batter, when asked about his prowess, seemed very casual and dismissed working on his bat speed especially to hit sixes.

"I've never worked on my bat speed, I'm just blessed with incredible talent," he said after his match-winning 26-ball 70 against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday (Mar 27).&nbsp;
"I am really happy that I have put in the work over the years, and I am getting the reward on the cricket field and winning games for my team as well," he added as LSG won the match by five-wickets - their first win of the season after losing the first game by one wicket against Delhi Capitals.
"I just try my best to get in good positions and if it's there, just time the ball nicely. In the last nine years, I have been working on my craft. Obviously, I have been getting the opportunity to bat higher up in the powerplay as well. It is really important to cash in when the wicket is nice and obviously when the match-up is there you try your best to execute your skills," Pooran further explained.
The batter has come of age for LSG since playing for the first time in 2019. He scored 499 last year in 14 games at a strike rate of 178 but given his form in the two games, he'd bound to break many more records.

Almost a fortnight after the much-discussed IPL auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Delhi Capitals' new head coach Hemang Badani opened up on Rishabh Pant’s shock departure from the franchise. Per DC’s co-owner Parth Jindal, Pant leaving the IPL team he captained the previous season was never about the money. But Badani’s comments tell a different story.

Pant entered the IPL 2025 mega auction for a purpose, and with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bagging him for a whopping $3.18 million (INR 27 crore), making him the costliest player ever, it perhaps served it.

Although DC also chased Pant, even willing to use an RTM or right to match option for him at $2.4mn (INR 21 crore), LSG outbid them, offering Pant the staggering amount and eventually securing him for three seasons.

In a chat with former India cricketer and CSK batter Subramaniam Badrinath during a YouTube show, Badani revealed what happened behind the scenes.&nbsp;

"I think it's the other way around. He wanted not to be retained. He said he wanted to go to the auction and test the market. If you want to retain a player, both parties (the team and the player) have to agree on certain things. We tried talking to him; the management tried talking to him. There were a lot of phone calls and messages exchanged," Badani revealed.&nbsp;

Badani also admitted that Delhi was always keen to retain Pant in the first place.

However, the India keeper-batter insisted on entering the auction and testing the market, believing chances of him getting for money were higher, which eventually happened.&nbsp;

“Yes (Delhi Capitals were interested in retaining him). He said he wanted to go to the auction and test the market. He said he had a feeling that there were chances he would get more money than the highest cap for retained player, which is Rs 18 crore."&nbsp;

"And, at the end of the day, he felt he was worth more. And the market said the same thing. He got Rs 27 crore. Good for him. He is a very good player. We will obviously miss him. But, life goes on," Badani added.&nbsp;

In a social media statement earlier, Pant had said the decision not to continue playing for DC wasn’t motivated by money.&nbsp;

"My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say," he said.

Goenka also spoke about LSG's new-look squad, also comprising Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Avesh Khan, Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, etc. "Our internal feeling is that our auction was excellent. Our focus was that our middle order and finishing should be extremely strong. Our No. 3 to No. 8 is very strong. Our second wish was to go with a completely Indian pace attack instead of international pace, and explosive international batters. Now we have got a combination of the two."

Hinting at the next captain, the owner added, "We have four leaders in our team - Rishabh, Pooran, Markram and Mitch Marsh. So it becomes a very strong leadership pool of intellect and thought, and strategy. They are all people who can go with the mindset to win. Rishabh has the hunger and passion to win. "I wanted to start fresh, I wanted to explore my options, and I wanted to go and play where I could find some freedom. Team atmosphere would be lighter; sometimes you just need to move away and find something good for yourself, and I have been out of the T20 team for a while," Rahul said in a chat with Star Sports.

‘I wanted to go where I could find some freedom’ – KL Rahul on his exit from LSG ahead of IPL 2025

The IPL franchises on Thursday (Oct 31) revealed their retention lists with many marquee players being released. The likes of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant were some big Indian names who got released from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC), respectively. Rahul, who led LSG from 2022-24, was under the scanner in IPL 2024 for his leadership and ineffective strike rate.

He was hence shown the door by the Sanjiv Goenka-led Lucknow franchise.

Soon after his release, Goenka's remark of 'team over personal milestones' made heads turn.

Geonka said in a statement, "It was a simple mindset to go in with players who have a mindset to win, who put the team first before their personal goals and personal aspirations and we wanted to retain as much as of core we could."

Notably, after a good start, LSG slipped down the ladder in IPL 2024. Moreover, LSG skipper Rahul was often criticised for his pace while at the crease. In IPL 2024, he struck at 136.13. Overall, he played 38 games for LSG and scored 1,410 runs. In his three seasons for Lucknow, Rahul never managed to get his strike-rate past the 140-mark. It will be interesting to see which team backs and acquires Rahul in the forthcoming&nbsp;mega auction.

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Pooran would be LSG’s first choice, followed by Mayank and Bishnoi. The left-handed batter was LSG’s second-highest run-scorer the past season behind KL Rahul and also kept wickets in Rahul's absence, who was out with a niggle.

Mishra also reflected on Goenka's chat with Rahul post-LSG's ten-wicket loss to SRH in match 57 in Hyderabad. The former Indian spinner said, "Goenka was disappointed. We lost two back-to-back matches very badly. Against KKR, we lost by some 90-100 runs and against SRH, the match was finished within 10 overs. It felt like we were bowling them during a net practice session. If I am so angry about it, will someone who has actually put money into the team not feel angry?"

He added, "It was not a huge deal. But I later came to know that he said that the bowling was very bad and the team should have shown some fight. It looked like you have completely surrendered. But I feel people and media hyped it up a bit."
