Liam Livingstone stole the show with the bat in his side Punjab Kings (PBKS)' clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Tuesday. Livingstone took GT pacer Mohammed Shami to the cleaners hitting him for three consecutive sixes in the 16th over of PBKS' innings while chasing a target of 144 runs.

It was an incredible display of power-hitting from Livingstone, who smashed the biggest six in IPL 2022 so far against Shami. The Englishman, who was roped in by Punjab Kings for a whopping Rs 11.50 crore (INR 115 million) at the IPL 2022 mega auction earlier this year, proved why he is one of the most dangerous T20 batters in the world at present.

Livingstone was sent early at no.3 against the Titans to wrap up the chase as quickly as possible with PBKS on 97/2 in 12 overs in pursuit of the 144-run target. He wasted little time in settling down and went after Shami in the 16th over. He slammed three consecutive sixes off the first three balls from Shami, including a stunning 117m hit.

The monstrous six from Livingstone left the entire cricket fraternity drooling while many Gujarat Titans players' on the pitch were left in awe. Livingstone was in sensational touch and in no mood to spare the Gujarat Titans bowlers as he finished the game in the 16th over itself from Shami. After smashing three sixes off the first three balls, the Englishman slammed two fours off the next three balls to score a whopping 28 runs in the over and take PBKS over the line comfortably.

Punjab Kings chased down the target of 144 runs with as many as four overs to spare, thanks to Shikhar Dhawan's unbeaten 62 off 53 balls and Livingstone's quickfire cameo. The England star scored 30 off just ten balls in the game and remained unbeaten to take PBKS home in the run-chase.

Liam Livingstone smashes biggest six in IPL 2022, leaves Gujarat Titans players in awe - WATCH

Shikhar Dhawan struck a fine half-century as error-prone Punjab Kings finally produced a clinical performance to beat Gujarat Titans by eight wickets and end the IPL table leaders' five-match winning streak here on Tuesday.

Pacer Kagiso Rabada snared four wickets as Punjab Kings restricted formidable Gujarat Titans to a below-par 143 for eight after Hardik Pandya opted to bat first.Punjab, who made a mess of what should have been a straightforward chase in their last game, learned from their mistakes to pace the innings much better and overcome the target in 16 overs.

Dhawan (62 not out off 53 balls) scored his third half-century of the season and got good support from Sri Lankan Bhanuka Rajapaksa (40 off 28), who entertained with five fours and a six. As one of the senior batters in the team, Dhawan took the responsibility of finishing the game for his team and he did that with elan.

Skipper Mayank Agarwal dropped himself down the order to accommodate Jonny Bairstow (1) at the top of the order but the move did not work. However, the 87-run stand between the left-handers, Dhawan and Rajapaksa, ensured Punjab got home comfortably.

Liam Livingstone (30 not out off 10) displayed some brutal hitting towards the end of the chase and smashed premier India pacer Mohammad Shami for four sixes including a monstrous 117m hit over deep square leg. The 16th over going for 30 runs also gave a big boost to PBKS' net run rate.

It was a much-needed win for Punjab, who have struggled for consistency this season with five wins and as many losses. For Gujarat, who are set to make the play-offs, it was a timely wake-up call to fix their batting issues, especially at the top of the order. They have had somebody or the other to bail them out of tough situations but it was not the case on Tuesday.

Earlier, Sai Sudharsan's unbeaten 65 off 50 balls was the saving grace in Gujarat's innings as Punjab bowlers conceded only 11 fours and two sixes. Sudarsan managed to hit five boundaries and a six but ran out of partners as Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya's decision to elect to bat backfired.

They lost openers Shubman Gill (9) and Wriddhiman Saha (21) cheaply. Gill, who had struck two boundaries, was dismissed courtesy a direct hit from Rishi Dhawan from cover, in the third over.

In the next over Saha, who started aggressively, gave a sitter to rival captain Mayank Agarwal at mid-off, giving Rabada (4/33) his first wicket. Saha, who had hit three boundaries and a six, was undone by the extra bounce, as he tried to play a lofted shot, but mistimed it and paid the price.

Gujarat further slipped to 44/3 as pacer Rishi Dhawan (1/26) removed Hardik (1) early. Hardik tried to drive an outside the off length ball, but ended it nicking to wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma leaving his team in all sorts of trouble.

Then Sudharsan and David Miller (11) tried to rally the innings but managed to add only 23 runs in 30 balls. It became 67/4 after Liam Livingstone (1/15) dismissed Miller, who miscued a lofted drive to be caught by Rabada at long-off.

Sudharshan tried to change gears from the 11th over, when he pulled Livingstone for his first boundary, but was unable to free his arms frequently.

Rabada further pegged back Gujarat by removing Rahul Tewatia (11) and Rashid Khan (0) in successive deliveries in the 17th over, with GT reeling at 112/6. Rabada capped off a memorable spell by dismissing Lockie Ferguson (5).
For Punjab, Sandeep Sharma (0/17), Arshdeep Singh (1/35), Rahul Chahar (0/11) and Livingstone also played their parts to perfection.

IPL 2022: Punjab Kings put together perfect game to end Gujarat Titans' winning run with 8-wicket victory

Match 48 of the IPL 2022 edition will see the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) lock horns with Mayank Agarwal's Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday evening (May 03). While one team Gujarat has everything going right for them this season, Punjab have remained rusty and inconsistent. Hence, they have to pull up their socks in order to stay alive in the playoffs race.

Earlier, Punjab and Gujarat were involved in a humdinger of a clash when they had met in match 16 on April 8, at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Being asked to bat first, Mayank-led PBKS rode on Liam Livingstone's blistering 27-ball 64 to post 189-9. In reply, Hardik & Co. were in the run-chase courtesy of Shubman Gill's 96 but lost him and skipper Hardik as Punjab kept fighting hard to stay in the contest. Nonetheless, with 13 needed off 3 balls, Gujarat still won the game with Rahul Tewatia's two sixes in a row (and a wide-ball).

For Gujarat, they are defying odds and finding new heroes and unearthing new ways to emerge on top in every game. With one more win, they are very much set to qualify for the playoffs and, hence, will test the erratic Punjab line-up, who is still struggling to finalise a settled XI and haven't won two games on the trot so far.

Match prediction for Gujarat vs Punjab: It is expected to be a humid day. Expect toss and dew to play a part once again. Batting second team likely to walk away with a win? Gujarat are surely favourites and expected to romp past Punjab.

GT vs PBKS, IPL 2022 prediction today: Who will win Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings match?

The cricketing action will continue in IPL 2022 edition on Monday evening (April 25). The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be taking on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the second reverse fixture of the season, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Both sides are in desperate need to find some momentum and consistency as their playoffs hopes are hanging by a thread. Talking about the Punjab franchise, they are slowly getting into a familiar territory -- like in the past few seasons -- of getting into a do-or-die situation. So far, they have only three wins from seven encounters and are languishing at the eighth position, just a spot above Ravindra Jadeja-led CSK.

On the other hand, the defending champions Chennai has picked up some momentum but they still need a log of catching up to do in order to progress to the playoffs. The four-time winners have only two victories from seven games and also need to work on their NRR. While CSK bowlers are now beginning to complement the ever-reliant Dwayne Bravo, they would need a lot more to stop a rampant Punjab batting line-up, who usually go all-out in the powerplay overs (going at over 9 RPO).

Meanwhile, the likes of Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad also need to find some form for Chennai's benefit. From Punjab's perspective, they need a lot more from their opening duo Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan whereas Jonny Bairstow desperately needs to find form or make way for Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Liam Livingstone -- Man-of-the-Match in PBKS' big win over CSK earlier in the season -- will continue to spearhead the middle and lower-order, however, he needs more support from the likes of Shahrukh Khan, Odean Smith, etc. Their bowling has been led by Rahul Chahar and an economical Arshdeep Singh but Kagiso Rabada still hasn't come good.

Match prediction for Chennai vs Punjab: The Wankhede pitches are now back to producing some big scores. However, the dew effect has gone down considerably and, hence, batting first won't be ruled out altogether. The surface used for the Lucknow-Mumbai encounter was a two-paced one. It will be interesting to see if it remains the same for Monday's clash. With Punjab coming into this encounter on the back of a loss, a slightly-improved Chennai should march ahead of an inconsistent PBKS line-up to pick up their third win of the season. CSK also have a better head-to-head record, leading Punjab 15-11.

IPL 2022: DC's game vs PBKS to go ahead despite COVID-19 scare, RR clash shifted from Pune to Mumbai

Dewlad Brevis to Liam Livingstone: Batters with biggest sixes in IPL 2022 so far

Young pace sensation Umran Malik's scorching final over proved to be the difference as Sunrisers Hyderabad slayed Punjab Kings by seven wickets for their fourth successive win in the Indian Premier League here on Sunday.

In top gear with Liam Livingstone's counter-attacking 60 off 30 balls (5x4, 4x6), PBKS lost five wickets in seven balls with Malik (4/28) producing a perfect final over -- a rare four-wicket maiden -- to skittle out the opposition for a below-par 151.

After Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/22) provided the key breakthrough of Livingstone, the 22-year-old uncapped pacer picked three wickets while the fourth came via run-out to derail PBKS. In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad did not have a perfect start and lost skipper Kane Williamson (3) early in the fourth over with Kagiso Rabada drawing the first blood.

Opener Abhishek Sharma (31 off 25 balls; 3x4, 1x6) and in-form Rahul Tripathi (34 from 22b; 4x4, 1x6) failed to convert their starts but the modest total meant that SRH did not have to worry much in the end.

Windies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran (41 not out from 27b; 4X4, 1x6) and Aiden Markram (35 not out from 30b; 1x4, 1x6) then completed the formalities with an unbroken 75-run partnership from 50 balls.

Playing without their regular skipper Mayank Agarwal, who suffered a toe-injury during training, PBKS were also let down with their sloppy fielding as they missed a runout and conceded easy runs defending a small total.

Markram finished off the chase in the penultimate over hitting Vaibhav Arora for consecutive boundaries and six to seal the issue with seven balls to spare.

The win took SRH to eight points, moving up from the middle-table rush to climb to the fourth spot, while PBKS remained on seventh with six points from as many matches.

Earlier Livingstone, who was the most expensive overseas player in this season's IPL auction with a price tag of Rs 11.50-crore, resurrected the PBKS innings with a counter-attacking 60 off 30 balls (5x4, 4x6) -- his third fifty in four matches.

Reduced to 61/4 inside eight overs after being put in, Livingstone found a perfect ally in No 6 batter Shahrukh Khan (26 off 28 balls; 1x4, 2x6) as the duo stitched together 71 from 49 balls to revive them in the middle overs.

On a slow pitch where scoring was difficult early on, Livingstone did not have any trouble as he had shots all over the pitch. His entertaining 27-ball 64 -- filled with 7 fours and 4 sixes at 237.04 -- propelled PBKS to 189-9 (reeling at 162-9 at one stage) along with vital cameos from Jitesh Sharma, Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Chahar. In reply, GT's innings was single-handedly held by Shubman. Mayank rotated his bowlers but to no avail and Chahar's rusty spell proved to be decisive (1 for 41). However, the spinner conceded only five runs off his penultimate over and also removed Sai to change the course of the contest. Gill, too, slowed down a bit towards the end of his innings as Kagiso Rabada removed him in the nervous 90s whereas Arshdeep Singh's last two overs brought Punjab back. Hardik also returned for a 25-ball 17 in the last over with 18 needed off the last five balls.

Nonetheless, Sharjah King Rahul Tewatia -- who had stunned Punjab in a 220-plus high-scorer in IPL 2020 -- once again came in the middle of Punjab and victory. His 3-ball 13*, with 12 off the last two deliveries, effortlessly sealed the deal for Gujarat in an emphatic run-chase.

IPL 2022: Jonny Bairstow to debut? Punjab Kings predicted XI against Gujarat Titans

Liam Livingstone stole the show with the bat as Punjab Kings (PBKS) thrashed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 61 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Sunday (April 03). Livingstone, who was the most expensive overseas player at the IPL 2022 mega auction last month, finally proved his mettle in the IPL with a cracking half-century against CSK.

Livingstone came out to bat at no.4 for Punjab Kings when they were struggling at 14/2 inside the first two overs after losing two wickets in quick succession. The England batter went to play a dazzling knock of 60 runs off 32 balls to help his side post a strong total of 180 runs on the board.

Livingstone was not done there as he also contributed with the ball during CSK's run chase and plucked a stunning return catch to dismiss Dwayne Bravo. In the 15th over of CSK's innings, Livingstone ran and dived towards his left to pluck a one-handed stunner to send Bravo packing on a duck.

It was a sensational effort from the England all-rounder which left his teammates in awe. The video of the superb catch soon went viral on social media.

'Lord of all lords': Ex-India cricketer lauds Liam Livingstone after all-round show against CSK

Liam Livingstone was the star performer for Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) as they locked horns with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 11 of the IPL 2022 edition in India, on Sunday evening (April 3).

Being asked to bat first, at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, PBKS weren't off to a desirable start as they were reduced to 14-2 before Livingstone's 32-ball 60, studded with five fours and an equal number of sixes, led to Punjab's recovery. Along with vital knocks from Shikhar Dhawan, Jitesh Sharma and some late hits, PBKS posted 180-8 in 20 overs before defending the total by 54 runs.

While Livingstone also made a mark with the ball, returning with 2 for 25, the Englishman's contribution with the bat was the real difference. He hit plenty of maximums but his 108-metre six off Mukesh Choudhary made heads turn (the biggest six of the 15th season so far). Here's the video of his huge strike into the stands:

While CSK were never in the run-chase, being reduced to 36 for 5, Livingstone also succeeded in sending Chennai's in-form batter Shivam Dube back to the pavillion. The left-hander was looking dangerous in his 30-ball 57 before the Englishman sent him back and also accounted for Dwayne Bravo's wicket, taking a blinder of his own bowling.

At the post-match presentation, Livingstone said, "The first two games hadn't gone my way. Good to contribute to a win. Thought the boys did brilliantly. We got to a target which we thought was defendable and our seam bowlers were outstanding in the powerplay. Got to try as smart as we can. All our conversations have been 'try and be as exciting as we can'. Nice to get a few today. I've been swinging hard enough, nice to get a couple off the middle today. You don't need to remind me about it (his IPL record previously). Struggled with RR as well last year. Nice to have a performance like this. Bowling is something I really enjoy. Something I've spent a lot of time on. Been nice to contribute. Hopefully, as the tournament goes on, my spin comes into play. I also bat in the nets with Odean Smith, he's got me covered by a long way, trust me. I'm sure he'll get going at some point and you'll see why."

Here's the video of his huge strike into the stands: ALSO READ | WATCH: Liam Livingstone takes a stunning return catch to dismiss Dwayne Bravo in PBKS' win over CSK 𝗛. 𝗨. 𝗠. 𝗢. 𝗡. 𝗚. 𝗢. 𝗨.

IPL 2022: PBKS star Liam Livingstone goes big, hits a mammoth 108m-six during CSK face-off - Watch

Twenty20 nomad Liam Livingstone justified his Rs 11.50 crore price-tag with a smashing all-round show while rookie seamer Vaibhav Arora announced his arrival on the big stage during Punjab Kings' comfortable 54-run decimation of Chennai Super Kings in an IPL match here on Sunday.

Livingstone with a 32-ball-60 laid the platform but Chennai Super Kings bowlers made a brilliant comeback at the death, restricting Mayank Agarwal led side to 180 for 8 after 20 overs.

Later, little known Himachal Pradesh seam bowler Arora (4-0-21-2) performed as if he owned the stage, dismissing Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali with CSK managing only 126 in 18 overs at the end of the chase.

After his batting, Livingstone (3-0-25-2) then became man with a "golden wrist" as his leg breaks got him a couple of wickets and he also took the final catch to cap off a dream night.

This is CSK's third defeat in as many games and unless Deepak Chahar makes a speedy comeback, things aren't looking great for the 'Yellow Brigade' and its de-facto skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

A couple of more defeats could really put them under huge pressure and within a sniffing distance of point of no return. Arora got good support from his former SD College Chandigarh teammate Arshdeep Singh (2/13 in 2 overs) during the initial period in which his skipper Agarwal bowled him out.

Rahul Chahar (3/25 in 4 overs) was steady during back-10 and his three wickets included the wicket of Dhoni. Arora didn't do anything fancy apart from pitching it fuller with the hint of away seam movement occasionally.

Uthappa tried a flick while Moeen without any distinct footwork dragged a delivery well outside the off onto his stumps. Skipper Ravindra Jadeja also met the same fate due to lack of feet movement.

In a jiffy, CSK were 36 for five before Dhoni (23 off 28 balls) joined Shivam Dube (57 off 30 balls), who did entertain the Brabourne crowd with lusty blows but it was always a game of catch-up for them. Dhoni's oft-documented struggles didn't do any good for CSK either as Dube had too much to do in too little time.

Fittingly, it was Livingstone, who capped off a fine day, removing Dube with an away going delivery and then dived full stretched off his own bowling to remove Dwayne Bravo.

Before his exploits with the ball, Livingstone, one of the most destructive T20 batters across global leagues, finally came good with five fours and an equal number of sixes, sending the CSK bowlers on a leather-hunt during the initial overs.

Deepak Chahar's absence has severely handicapped Dhoni's (the 'real skipper') options as rookie left-arm seamer Mukesh Choudhary (4-0-52-1) paid dearly for his inexperience coupled with jangling nerves.

There were 100 metre plus sixes off length balls and Livingstone would often shimmy down the track to disturb the length as he did with the wily Bravo.

Even the thick edges went for six with CSK bowlers looking clueless till he was there at the crease.

In fact, Bravo, under pressure, forced Dhoni to stand up to the stumps in order to prevent Livingstone from charging down the track but that hardly deterred him from playing his strokes.

What would disappoint Dhoni more is the fact that CSK gave away only 71 runs in the back-10 with a lot of credit going to their troika of overseas pacers -- Dwaine Pretorius (4-0-30-2), Dwayne Bravo (3-0-32-1) and Chris Jordan (4-0-23-2), who used variations to good effect.

In fact, bulk of the 55 dot balls came in the second half of the Punjab innings.

Livingstone and Shikhar Dhawan (33 off 24 balls) added 95 for the third wicket in just 8.4 overs and it seemed that another 200 plus total was on the cards.

By the time Dhawan was fooled by a Bravo slower, Punjab had laid the platform, scoring 109 in the first 10 overs, which sadly the later batters couldn't capitalise on.

But once Livingstone was out, the 'Reds' couldn't maintain the momentum although Vidarbha's Jitesh Sharma (26 off 17 balls) with his audacious strokeplay showed why he is so highly rated.

IPL 2022: Punjab Kings register comfortable win over Chennai Super Kings

Match 8 of the IPL 2022 edition will see the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face the one-time runners-up Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday evening (April 01). While this will be only the second game for Punjab, Shreyas Iyer & Co. will play their third match as the first week of the 15th season comes to a close.

Talking about the PBKS outfit, they started their campaign with a spirited five-wicket win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise. Bowling first, Punjab leaked runs as RCB posted 205-2 in 20 overs. However, their batters such as skipper Mayank Agarwal, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksha, Liam Livingstone, Odean Smith and Shahrukh Khan combined with vital knocks to propel the side to a thrilling last-over win, at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.

After a desirable start, Punjab will aim to move past their inconsistent tag and make it two wins in a row. It won't be easy facing the KKR outfit, who have won and lost a match each. Iyer-led KKR are a formidable unit with a good mix of batters and enough variety in their bowling department.

While Punjab have some big hitters, they will need their bowling to improve with each passing game. Kagiso Rabada looks all set to don the Punjab jersey for the first time in the KKR face-off. The South African seamer will look to add to the bowling unit and spearhead the attack versus Kolkata.

Deepak Chahar to Liam Livingstone: 5 players who earned biggest pay rise at IPL mega auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction was an enthralling two-day affair, which was held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. As many as 590 players went under the hammer in the mega auction, which was held after four years. At the end of the two-day auction, all the ten IPL franchises have added quite a lot of big names to their respective squads before the IPL 2022 edition, which gets underway in late March.

Talking about the Punjab Kings (PBKS), they retained only opener Mayank Agarwal and pacer Arshdeep Singh before heading into the mega auction, with INR 720 million in their purse. As a result of having the highest purse before the auction, the PBKS think-tank went all-out and roped in some big players and relatively experienced as well as uncapped cricketers to the squad.

IPL 2022: Who is PBKS's Benny Howell? First French-born cricketer to feature in India's cash-rich league

The multi-millionaires! Indian and overseas players sold for Rs 100 million or more at IPL 2022 auction

England batter Liam Livingstone turned out to be the most expensive overseas buy at the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction on Sunday (February 13). Punjab Kings (PBKS) shelled out a whopping Rs 11.50 crore (INR 115 million) to rope in the England star, who is known for his big-hitting ability and can also be a handy leg-spinner.

Livingstone triggered a bidding war between the teams as soon as his name was announced at the mega auction on Sunday. Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders were locked in a battle for the England star before Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings joined the bidding war. Punjab eventually managed to get the England star for Rs 11.5 crore.

While social media was full of reactions over the move as many lauded Punjab for roping in the hard-hitting English batter, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar labelled the signing a 'gamble'. Manjrekar pointed out Livingstone's struggles in the IPL last season when he was part of the Rajasthan Royals squad.

Livingstone played five matches for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 and managed to score only 42 runs. He was dropped from the side after a series of disappointing performances before being brought back but failed to showcase his skills and talent in the league.

Manjrekar said Livingstone was a gamble considering the price he went at and his past performance do not instil much confidence. While he praised the Royals for making some great signings at the IPL 2022 mega auction, he insisted Livingstone was a gamble.

"Before the auction, I said that one of the best performers in the auction have been Punjab Kings. They have got some significant players, Mayank Agarwal, Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow, Harpreet Brar was a great selection. They have retained Arshdeep which is a great decision. They have got Rabada and they have got Rahul Chahar. These are formidable proven IPL talents. They had a lot of money left as they didn't spend a lot on their above-mentioned picks," Manjrekar told Star Sports.

"I still maintain that Liam Livingstone is a gamble, considering his previous IPL experience. Odeon Smith is a story that we have seen many times before. Owners get excited about the talent that they see outside and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't," said Manjrekar on Star Sports.

'Liam Livingstone is a gamble': Sanjay Manjrekar on Punjab Kings spending Rs 11.5 crore on England star

Liam Livingstone made heads turn as he has become the costliest overseas buy at the IPL 2022 mega auction. On the second and final day, the English all-rounder was in huge demand when commentator-turned-auctioneer Charu Sharma announced his name in the middle. As a result, as many as five franchises showed interest in him before he finally went to Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a whopping INR 115 million (INR 11.5 crore).

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gujarat Lions (GL), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and PBKS joined the intense bidding war to acquire the services of the 28-year-old all-rounder before Livingstone finally joined the 2014 edition's runners-up. In recent times, Livingstone has made a good name for himself owing to his power-hitting skills, handy off-spin and being a gun fielder.

Livingstone has a strike-rate of 158.33 for England in the shortest format. In IPL, he has played only 9 games -- for Rajasthan Royals (RR) from 2019-2021 edition -- and strikes at 125.84. He is yet to take a wicket in the cash-rich league.

Livingstone surpasses Hasaranga's price tag to become costliest overseas buy at IPL 2022 mega auction

The IPL 2022 edition is keenly awaited. The upcoming season will see two new teams joining the cash-rich league, in the form of Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Ahead of the next year's IPL season, the mega auction will take place -- most likely in January, 2022 -- as many marquee players will enter the auction pool whereas many youngsters will get a chance to feature in the IPL.

Ahead of the mega auction, all the eight existing franchises have to share their list of retained players, maximum by November 30 (Tuesday). As per the rules, each franchise can retain a maximum of four players -- three Indians and one foreign player of two Indian and overseas players each. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan shared his list of four players who are likely to be retained by the one-time winners Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Pathan told Star Sports, "Sanju Samson for sure, second number will be Jos Buttler because he's been in fantastic form, one of the best hitters going around especially if you are talking about white ball cricket, so you don't want to miss out on that wicket-keeper batsman, who can bat up the order and down the order as well.

"The other guy, people might be tempted for Ben Stokes because he's a wonderful all-rounder, but I think I would put Jofra Archer in the same category as Jasprith Bumrah because you don't find many bowlers like that. So, I definitely would like Rajasthan Royals to retain Jofra Archer, and the fourth one, I am very tempted for Yashasvi Jaiswal because he's a young guy, who’s shown a lot of potential, and he could be the guy you could invest in.”

For the unversed, a report in ESPNcrinfo had recently suggested that RR have retained their skipper Samson for a whopping price. It remains to be seen how many players will the one-time champions retain ahead of the mega auction.

Part-time slow bowler Liam Livingstone, who is capable of bowling both leg and off-spin, would be a vital cog in the sluggish UAE conditions as the T20 World Cup progresses, opener Jason Roy said on Wednesday.

After Moeen Ali's two wickets in two balls in Power Play, Livingstone removed both Mushfiqur Rahim and Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah in the middle overs to keep England run-rate ahead during their eight-wicket win in a T20 World Cup match here.

"He's doing extremely well for us and holding up an average is extremely positive," Roy said of Livingstone.

"Especially as the tournament goes on where the pitches might get a little bit harder against spin, who knows, he might have more of a role to play."

On a day leg-spinner Adil Rashid returned wicketless, Livingstone returned with 2/15 before Tymal Mills wreaked havoc with 3/27 to restrict Bangladesh to 124/9.

"Yeah, he's been working extremely hard. It's been great having Moeen and Rash (Rashid) on the side as well, and he learns a lot from them and Jeetan Patel, our spin coach, as well, has been giving him some words of wisdom. It's paying off for him."

Such was the pressure in the middle overs that Bangladesh played 52 dot balls in their innings.

"We bowled extremely well. Take nothing away from the bowlers. I don't think we took too much of a foot wrong," said Roy.

"We took our catches and fielded and bowled really well. It was a pitch that was on the slow side, and if you bowled straight and on a good length, it was quite hard to get away."

Roy gave the team a great start with a blistering 38-ball 61 to make his 50th Twenty20 International cap special.

"We got off to a great start with the bat and then just capitalised on a lower total. We kept it very simple and stuck to what we do best.

"We don't look too much into what a lot of other teams do. We make sure that everything in our camp is right and we're doing our roles right. And today was another day that we bowled extremely well and we were clinical with the bat," he said.

The ultra aggressive approach of the batters is paying off for the reigning ODI World Cup champions and Roy credited it to the team bonding.

"Our camp has been together since 2015 and we've created bonds outside of cricket and on the field, which I think plays a huge part in travelling the world and playing good cricket," Roy said.

"We understand our roles in the team as individuals and as teammates," he said of the success mantra for the top-ranked T20I side.

"There's a lot of trust, a lot of friendships, but yeah, we are just a confident side that always want to get better."

In the chastening campaign, Australia record four comprehensive wins - including two innings victories and a 10-wicket triumph.

Stokes missed the entire series in Australia after being banned from international duties while police investigate his alleged role in a fight outside a nightclub in Bristol three months ago.
