<p>More than 1,000 people have been confirmed as dead due to the massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck central Turkiye and Northwestern Syria.</p>

<p>The quake, as per a Reuters report, was also felt in Cyprus and Lebanon. However, as per the Danish geological institute, tremors from the earthquake were felt as far away as Greenland, some 5,500 km away. &nbsp;</p>

<p>CCTV footage and mobile footage of the devastation have flooded the internet. Some of these videos show people trapped under the rubble, others show the moment when massive buildings fell like a "house of cards".</p>

<p>Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, as per Reuters, called this a "historic disaster" and the worst tremor to hit the country since 1939. As per the leader who is currently preparing for a tough election in May, authorities are doing everything they could do.</p>

Reportedly, the United Nations is also present on the ground to assess the needs and provide assistance.</p>

Death toll from Syria-Turkey earthquake crosses 3,700; international community steps in to help

<p>More than 1,400 people died in the disastrous 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkiye. Several CCTV and mobile footages of the devastation have flooded the internet. Some of the videos show people trapped under the rubble, while others show the moments when many massive buildings fell.</p>

<p>Among these footages, one video shows a Turkish reporter broadcasting live from Malatya on Monday, sharing&nbsp;site experience. The A Harber reporter was then spotted running as he saw a building collapsing, creating a plume of dust.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Finding it along the long path from north of Newman - a small town in the remote Kimberley region - to a storage facility in the northeast suburbs of Perth - a distance longer than the length of Great Britain is nothing short of 'finding a needle in a haystack'.</p>

<p>Authorities have warned that people should not come in contact with the capsule.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mohammad Asim, a hospital official, as per a Reuters report, said that while 93 people have perished, 221 are wounded, of which&nbsp;57 are currently in critical condition, undergoing treatment.</p>

<p>The attack occurred in one of the most fortified areas of northwestern Peshawar city, an area that houses offices&nbsp;and residences of police and counter-terrorism departments. It is still under investigation how the terrorist entered the sensitive area where entry is restricted and one must cross at least two check posts to enter.</p>

<p>As per an IANS report, police said that the bomber had placed himself in the front row of the prayer ceremony. Among those killed is Imam Sahibzada Noor ul Amin.</p>

<p>Many people were trapped under the debris, and a rescue operation during the night pulled out nine bodies. The "powerful explosion" caused damage to the mosque building, bringing down its roof and one wall.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At least 20 slain police officers have been laid to rest with honour after a prayer ceremony, their coffins draped in the Pakistani flag.</p>

The website gathers its data from a variety of sources, including user reports.</p>

<p>Users from many locations globally, including Cape Town in South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Sri Lanka, Peru&nbsp;and Ukraine, also took to the website to report similar outages. Users also posted similar reports on Twitter.</p>

<p>In yet another shooting in the United States, a 21-year-old man opened fire at people in a gas station convenience store in the capital Washington, killing three, only to later shoot himself dead.</p>

<p>The incident took place in Yakima, Washington. In what is being described as a "random situation" by the police, local man Jarid Haddock shot and killed three people in and around the convenience store.</p>

<p>As per an Albany Herald report, Haddock pulled into the ARCO/ampm gas station and "tried to get into the lobby," but was unable to,&nbsp;due to locked doors.</p>

<p>Yakima Police had launched an extensive manhunt for him. However, hours later, they received a 911 call from a woman who said that Haddock, who had been declared a suspect, had borrowed her phone near a supermarket.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 21-year-old called his mother and made several incriminating statements including 'I killed those people'. He also said he was going to kill himself.</p>

<p>As per FDA, the limits "would result in significant reductions in exposures to lead from food while ensuring availability of nutritious foods".</p>

<p>FDA estimates that the proposed levels would bring about a 25 per cent reduction in dietary exposure to lead for some young children.</p>

<p>However, not everyone is happy with the guidelines. &nbsp;Quoting Jane Houlihan, research director for the nonprofit Healthy Babies Bright Futures, NY Post says they are disappointing.</p>

<p>"It doesn’t go far enough to protect babies from neurodevelopmental damage from lead exposures," said Houlihan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Centers for Disease Control, too, has previously said that there is no safe level of lead for children. As per the agency, children below the age of six absorb the contaminant more readily and are at a greater risk. As per CDC, "there is also evidence that childhood exposure to lead can cause long-term harm."</p>

<p>To deal with the falling birthrate, Kishida's government, as per the leader, has launched multiple policies, including the new Children and Families Agency in April.</p>

<p>The incident has come to light just days after the US Supreme Court placed a temporary stay on the end of "Title 42" a Trump-era measure that has been used to expel hundreds of thousands of migrants in recent years. It is set to expire on December 21.</p>

<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">It’s been months since China’s Zhurong Mars rover entered a “hibernation” to wait out the cold and harsh winter on planet&nbsp;Mars’ northern hemisphere and its alien landscape. However, the slumber which was planned to end in December of last year still continues. Now the question is, will the rover ever wake up? There’s still hope.</p>

<p>Zhurong is part of Tianwen 1, China’s ambitious Mars mission, and the nation’s first interplanetary mission. The mission, which includes a Mars rover, touched down on the Red Planet’s Utopian Planitia in May of the year 2021.</p>

<p>But given that Perseverance is nearer to the red planet’s equator - located around seven degrees latitude south of its Chinese counterpart - it may be experiencing slightly more favourable conditions than Zhurong.</p>

<p>NASA's 2020 rover Perseverance, meanwhile, is not asleep. It is nuclear-powered and doesn’t need to hibernate.</p>

<p><strong>What now?</strong></p>

<p>The rover's mission with which China achieved the status of being the second country to reach the surface of Mars is already a great success.</p>

The numbers are from a now-outdated survey carried out in 2020.</p>

<p>Sint Maarten’s ministry of tourism, economic affairs, transportation and telecommunication in December approved 100,000NAf ($55,000) in funding per year for the project.</p>

<p>Leslie Hickerson, the NGO’s manager, said that it can be difficult to maintain population size control for invasive species as they lack natural predators in the area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the latest figures show that the number of people out of work for up to six months and those unemployed for a period between six to 12 months saw an increase. For the former, the numbers were driven by people aged 16 to 24 years.</p>

By the end of 2021, the wealthiest had pocketed $26 trillion or 63 per cent of the total new wealth. The rest went to the remaining 99 per cent of the global population.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Citing a report by ProPublica, a US-based investigative news group, Oxfam said that with Elon Musk facing a “true tax rate” of just 3.2 per cent between 2014-18 and Jeff Bezos paying less than one per cent, it is clear that the wealthiest hardly pay any taxes.</p>

<p>In contrast, 99 per cent pay more taxes. Oxfam presents, as an example, a Ugandan market trader that works with the organisation, and remarks that he pays more than tenfold to the billionaires at 40 per cent.</p>

<p>As per the group, this would help bring the number of billionaires down to 2012 levels, adding that the “eventual aim should be to go further, and to abolish billionaires altogether, as part of a fairer, more rational distribution of the world’s wealth.”</p>

<p>As per the report, the concentration of wealth “continues to be around primordial characteristics such as caste,” and there is a “persistence of marginalisation” among the historically disadvantaged elements of the society who are still trapped in intergenerational poverty.</p>

<p>The report claims that following the COVID-19 pandemic, the bottom 50 per cent of the population in India has seen its “wealth chipped away”. Between May and December 2022, inflation consistently breached the six per cent statutory limit set out in the amended Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.</p>

<p>By the year 2020, this chunk of the population accounted for a mere 13 per cent of the country’s national income, and less than three per cent of its total wealth.&nbsp;This is because the top 30 per cent has accumulated&nbsp;more than 90 per cent of the wealth, and among them, the top 10 per cent own more than 80 per cent of the wealth.</p>

<p>US Tech firm C16 Biosciences has come up with “Palmless”, an alternative to palm oil that is made from yeast cells. The product was recently released commercially to try and “reduce the world’s reliance on palm oil”, says Shara Ticku, CEO of the company.</p>

<p>Accounting for over 40 per cent of the world’s vegetable oil usage, Palm oil continues to dominate the market. The tasteless, colourless and odourless oil is equally popular with cosmetic makers and food companies. It owes its popularity to the fact that it doesn’t change the taste or look of the product but instead acts as a natural preservative.</p>

<p>What’s problematic about its usage is the widely documented and significant deforestation it leads to. The tree can grow in low-lying, hot, humid areas near the equator, 85 per cent of which is in Indonesia and Malaysia, areas home to endangered species like the Orangutan, pygmy elephant and Sumatran rhino.</p>
