For KKR, they ended their four-match losing streak and finally earned their third win this year.

Earlier,&nbsp;Roy slammed an impressive 29-ball 56 as he took on the RCB attack in the powerplay overs. While his opening partner N Jagadeesan struggled, making a 27-ball 29, the England opener's knock&nbsp;featured&nbsp;with 4 fours and 5 sixes at 193.10.

Put to bat first by RCB, Rahmanullah Gurbaz helped KKR get off to a solid start, smashing Mohammed Siraj for three straight fours in the third over. Venkatesh Iyer on the other end, started slowly. However, David Willey, coming to the side as Reece Topley's replacement, made an immediate impact in the next over, castling Venkatesh's middle stump.

Willey was the pick of the bowlers for RCB, taking 2/16 in his four overs. Karn Sharma also took 2/26 in his three overs. Harshal, Bracewell and Siraj managed one wicket each.

The win sees KKR record their first points of the season and have gone level with RCB for the same points. KKR will next take on champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, April 9 while RCB will take on Lucknow Super Giants at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangaluru.

After going unsold in the auction for a base price of INR 1.5 crore, KKR needed a capable replacement for Shakib, while they are also without skipper Shreyas Iyer. Roy will most preferably deputies for Iyer while KKR will look to make the most of the talented English star who has been out of contract with the national side but still carries an incremental term.

As things stand, most English players can sign replacement deals in the IPL before a cut-off date of March 1, in order to help their counties plan for the early months of the County Championship season. Roy, who has been on the incremental contract, was eligible to sign for an IPL franchise in case any scenario appears.

Roy last played donned the colours of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL where he played five matches in the 2021 campaign. He was bought by Gujarat Titans in the 2022 IPL auctions for INR 1.5 crore, before deciding to pull out of the season. Roy took a long timeout from the game to spend time with his family.

Roy has so far played 13 IPL matches and scored 329 runs at an average of 29.91 which includes two fifties as well with a best of 91. Interestingly his last spell in the IPL in 2021 with SRH saw him score 150 runs in five matches, averaging 30 and striking at 123.96.

KKR will take the field on Thursday, April 6 at the Eden Gardens against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and will look to bounce back from their opening day defeat. KKR lost by seven runs to Punjab Kings (PBKS) on the DLS method and will look to put behind the disappointment of that torrid defeat.

After much hullabaloo, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition is&nbsp;set to kick off on Friday evening (March 31). The opening game will see last year's winners Gujarat Titans (GT) take on the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. The competition is once again expected to set the stage on fire as ardent cricket fans across the globe will be glued to their tv screens to watch the proceedings.

The upcoming season will see the addition of the Impact Player Rule, teams naming their playing XIs after the toss and mark the return of the traditional home-and-away format during the league stage. The group stage will comprise as many as 70 games which will be followed by the playoffs and the final.&nbsp;

IPL 2023: Updated squads of all 10 teams and their captains

England batter Liam Livingstone will miss the Punjab Kings (PBKS) campaign opener of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as he is awaiting a fitness clearance from England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after recovering from a knee injury sustained last year in December, reported ESPNCricinfo on Wednesday.

PBKS will open its IPL campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at the home arena of Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali from April 1. Livingstone is a vital part of PBKS set-up for his all-round abilities. He has not played any competitive cricket since picking up the injury on his Test debut against Pakistan back in December.

He had also suffered an ankle injury during the Hundred tournament last year. He was recently in Dubai for almost a week for his county Lancashire's pre-season tour and was at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Livingstone had a great campaign for PBKS in IPL 2022. In 14 matches, he scored 437 runs at an average of 36.41 and a massive strike rate of 182.08. He scored four half-centuries in the tournament with best score of 70. He also picked up six wickets with his spin bowling. Livingstone has also represented England in 12 ODIs and 29 T20Is, He also has scored the fastest century by an England player in T20Is.

But PBKS finished at the sixth spot for the fourth season in a row despite his heroics. They won seven and lost seven out of their 14 matches, ending up with 14 points. They fell two points short of a potential spot in a playoff.

Sam Curran, the highest-paid player in IPL history, purchased for Rs 18.50 crore at the auction last year, has joined the team. He is the only English player left in the squad. Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of the competition as well, with Australia's Matthew Short named as his replacement.

Matthew Short was the 'Player of the Tournament' during the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23, representing Adelaide Strikers. He was the second-highest run scorer in the tournament with 458 runs at an average of 35.23 in 14 matches, with one century and two fifties and a best of 100*.

He also took 11 wickets in 14 matches, with the best bowling figures of 3/14. In all, he has played 67 T20s, in which he has scored 1,409 runs in 64 matches at an average of 23.88, with one century and seven fifties. He also has 22 wickets in the format.

Besides Livingstone, South African pacer Kagiso Rabada will also miss the opening nggame because of international cricket commitments. The bowler is expected to arrive in India on April 3 ahead of away match against Rajasthan Royals.
