Two passengers were killed and several others suffered injuries in a train accident in Cairo on Tuesday, said the health ministry of Egypt after the latest rail tragedy in the country.

The ministry, in its statement, said that there were "two dead in the train accident at Qalyub, while the injured are in stable condition."

The train accident took place in Qalyub, which is located north of Cairo in the Nile Delta.

The national rail authority of Egypt said that the accident happened when a passenger train while entering Qalyub station, ran through a stop signal.

"That led to the derailment of the locomotive and the first carriage," the authority said in a statement. The pictures from the site of the accident showed the responders moving towards rail cars.

The officials said that an investigation into the cause of the accident is being carried out. Around 20 ambulances were sent to the accident site and the injured passengers were admitted to nearby hospitals, said health authorities.

A perimeter was formed by the police to hold back the people who had perched on the nearby walls. Later, a crane was brought to lift a derailed car which looked partially crumpled.

The rail accidents in Egypt have been blamed on poor maintenance and infrastructure.

Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir, in April 2021, fired the head of the rail authority after an uproar over the dilapidated train lines' mismanagement.

On Friday afternoon, the authorities found pieces of her body along with a meat slicer, an electric saw, and some clothing at a butchery unit in the Tai Po district.

While her two legs were found in a fridge, the police are still searching for her head, torso and hands.

The model’s ex-father-in-law and ex-husband, along with two others, were arrested on Friday at a pier in Tung Chung, on one of the city’s outlying islands while trying to flee.

On Saturday, around 100 officers conducted a search operation at the Tseung Kwan O cemetery. A drone was used for an aerial search and police tracking dogs were dispatched to detect traces of Choi, South China Morning Post reported.

Police superintendent Alan Chung said at a press conference that they intended to abscond via water transport at the time of the arrest.

The ex-husband, his brother and parents, are&nbsp;being held for questioning while police continue the search for Choi’s remaining body parts, Chung said.

At the time of their arrest, the ex-husband had HK$500,000 (US$63,695) in cash and several luxury watches worth about HK$4 million.

According to media reports, he later complained of feeling unwell at Hung Hom Police Station and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei.

Choi,&nbsp;a well-known model in Hong Kong with considerable international exposure,&nbsp;was photographed at the Elie Saab Spring Summer 2023 Haute Couture show in Paris, France, as recently as last month.

She is also a social media influencer with nearly 100,000 followers on her Instagram account. In her bio, she writes that she’s “embracing every moment in life.”

Choi leaves behind a son and a daughter from her ex-husband. Police said that they will be placed in the care of Choi's&nbsp;mother.

Six people, which included three children, lost their lives after their throats were accidentally slit by glass-coated kite strings during India's annual kite-flying festival.&nbsp;Hundreds of people flocked to rooftops and terraces to fly their kites during the Uttarayan festival in India's western state of Gujarat during the weekend.

As per reports, the victims bled to death after their necks got entangled in razor-sharp kite strings, officials said Indian news agency Press Trust of India (PTI). Around 176 people suffered injuries due to cuts from strings or because they fell.

A few participants coat the strings of their kite with powdered glass so that the cords of the opponent can be sliced in the air. The practice was banned in 2016, however, critics claim that it is rarely enforced.

A two-year-old girl lost her life when her neck was cut by a kite string while she was on a scooter with her father, said an official from Bortalav police station, as cited by the PTI.

Seven-year-old boy, Rishabh Verma, was riding on a scooter with his parents when the string suddenly struck him, said an official from Aji Dam police station.&nbsp;

As per the police, the department received similar reports from Kutch, Gandhinagar and Vadodara districts, where three people died in similar circumstances.&nbsp;

While speaking to the Guardian, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) India's campaigner Nikunj Sharma had earlier said that people can suffer severe injuries by the use of 'Manja' made of nylon string and not cotton to fly kites.&nbsp;

“Unlike cotton strings these are non-biodegradable, don’t break easily and continue to cause injuries months after the festival,” said Sharma. &nbsp;

AP news agency reported that the 202m (662ft) ship suffered limited damage as it arrived in Argentina's Ushuaia, 3,100 kilometres south of Buenos Aires, the next day.

In a statement, the cruise ship described it as a “rogue wave incident” and informed that the four other passengers’ injuries were not life-threatening. It also said that it is investigating the incident.

“It is with great sadness that we confirmed a guest passed away following the incident,” Viking said.

“We have notified the guest’s family and shared our deepest sympathies.”

Speaking to ABC News, one of the passengers said that “something big had happened," adding, "A lot of water came shooting in."

"Luckily, our windows did hold," Beverly Spiker from California said, adding that other rooms on their side of the ship were "washed out."

The company has not revealed the name of the deceased woman. Meanwhile, a federal court has taken cognizance of the incident.

The company has said that it was cancelling its scheduled voyage, which was expected to sail towards Antarctica from December 5 to December 17.

Built in 2022, the ‘Viking Polaris’ is a luxury vessel and has the capacity to carry 378 passengers and 256 crew members.

“The people who conduct and support the research at this facility are conservationists, ecologists and veterinarians whose life work is devoted to understanding and supporting these species. We recognise that this loss is particularly devastating to our community,” it added.

The incident took place on Monday night when a group of people was attending an office party at&nbsp;Noida city’s Gardens Galleria Mall, around 40 kilometres from Delhi.

According to reports, it all began when an argument ensued around 11 pm between the group and the staff over bill payment.

The argument turned into a minor scuffle following which bouncers were brought in.

But it only made the matter worse, as a fistfight now ensued between the group and the bouncers, during which the victim, Brajesh Rai, received fatal injuries on his head.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but the doctors couldn’t save him as he was declared brought dead by the doctor.

After the Noida police were informed, a case was filed under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code and an investigation had been launched.

The police have taken eight people into custody after they analysed the CCTV footage, according to media reports.

He was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. FIR registered; bar staff is taken into custody,” news agency&nbsp;ANI&nbsp;quoted Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Ranvijay Singh as saying.

Rai was a resident of Bihar’s Hasanpura village and had been staying in Noida for many years.

A senior state official and a mayor were among five people killed by a road mine in a restive anglophone region of Cameroon on Wednesday, local sources said.

For the fourth time in less than a month, a journalist in Mexico has been killed. Roberto Toledo was shot dead by three gunmen. He worked for the local news outlet Monitor Michoacán.

Mexico does not offer a safe atmosphere for journalists for a long time now, but the situation is only getting worse with each passing day.

The journalist&nbsp; was shot dead in a parking lot area in the city of Zitácuaro.&nbsp;

Monitor Michoacán's director, Armando Linares, in a social media post expressed his condolences to Toledo’s family.&nbsp;

Linares said, "Toledo lost his life at the hands of three people who shot him in a mean and cowardly manner. We don’t carry weapons. We only have a pen and a notebook to defend ourselves.”

According to a report by The Guardian, The Committee to Protect Journalists has said that 32 members of the media have been murdered since President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has come to power.&nbsp;

Journalists have accused the President of failing to protect the journalists.

Earlier, in January, for the second time in less than 7 days, a journalist was killed in Tijuana. Baja California state prosecutor's office, in a report by AFP, said that Lourdes Maldonado Lopez was "attacked with a firearm while she was in a vehicle."

Maldonado had worked with multiple news outlets, including Primer Sistema de Noticias (PSN).&nbsp;

In Mexico, fourth journalist killed in less than a month

A UN report seen by Reuters says the Taliban and its allies are believed to have killed scores of former Afghan officials, security force members and people who worked with the international military contingent since the US-led pullout.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ report to the UN&nbsp;Security Council paints a picture of worsening living conditions for Afghanistan’s 39 million people despite an end of combat with the Taliban's takeover in August.

"An entire complex social and economic system is shutting down," Guterres said.

The report sounds the latest in a series of warnings the UN&nbsp;chief has issued in recent months about the humanitarian and economic crises that accelerated after the Taliban seized Kabul as the last US-led foreign troops left and international donors cut critical financial aid.

Guterres recommended the council approve a restructuring of the UN&nbsp;mission to deal with the situation, including the creation of a new human rights monitoring unit.

The UN mission "continues to receive credible allegations of killings, enforced disappearances and other violations" against former officials, security force members and people who worked for the US-led international military contingent despite a general amnesty announced by the Taliban, the report said.

The mission has determined as credible reports that more than 100 of those individuals have been killed – more than two-thirds of them allegedly by the Taliban or their affiliates – since August&nbsp;15, it said.

There also are credible allegations of the extra-judicial killings of at least 50 people suspected of belonging to the local branch of the Islamic State militant group, according to the report.

"Human rights defenders and media workers continue to come under attack, intimidation, harassment, arbitrary arrest, ill-treatment and killings," it said.
