The defeat left RR in a vulnerable position, as they will now sit out of the top four by the time they take the field in their next encounter on Sunday, May 14.

"I was very confident with Sandeep. He has won us a game with almost a similar situation. He did it again today but that no-ball actually ruined our result," Samson said after the match while he spoke to the broadcasters.

"To be very honest, we all know that that's what IPL gives you. Matches like these, that's what makes IPL so special. You can never never never feel like you've won the game," added Samson.

RR were defending a target of 215 and thought they had won the contest when Sandeep Sharma bowled a dot ball on the final delivery of the innings when SRH needed five runs to win. However, in an extraordinary turn of events, the dot ball was deemed as a no-ball which left RR in a state of vulnerability. With four needed off the final ball, Sandeep got his proposed yorker wrong and was hit for six to hand a famous win to SRH at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

"It's a no-ball, you have to bowl it again, as simple as that. You don't think about it too much," Samson said when quizzed about how he reacted to having to regroup his troops.

The results, however, are not the same for everybody and the reason behind this is that the batsmen who come in as Impact Player (while the sides are chasing a total) are not living up to the expectations of their teams. The batsmen who have played in the first innings and got replaced by an Impact Player - Bowler, on the other hand, have been very effective, especially at the top.

However, before we move ahead with all the data, let's understand the Impact Player rule first:

The Impact Player-Batsmen, who have been in action 44 times out of 50, have scored 810 runs at an average of 20, while the batsmen who have been replaced by an Impact Player-Bowlers have scored 1,444 runs in 45 innings of 50 matches at an average of 32.&nbsp;

The strike rate of Impact Player-Batsmen has been a meagre 128.77 while hitting those 810 runs, while that of the batsmen giving way to Impact Player-Bowlers has been a whopping 142.40 - a&nbsp;difference of nearly 14 runs per hundred balls.

Talking about the 50+ innings played by the Impact Player - Batsmen, there have been just two such instances - first by Kolkata Knight Riders' Venkatesh Iyer, who scored 83 off 40 against Gujarat Giants in match 13 and the other one by Mumbai Indians' Suryakumar Yadav, who bulldozed his way to a 31-ball 66 in match 46 against Punjab Kings as MI chased down a mammoth 214.

The batsmen who have been replaced by an Impact Player - Bowler, however, recorded 50+ scores 14 times and two of them have been a century as well.

Out of 44 times, Impact Player-Batsmen have batted in the Top 4 of the batting order 32 times, and their team have won almost 50 per cent&nbsp;of the time - 15 to be precise. The preference of the teams, however, has been to make the Impact Player-Batsmen play in the Top 4 only as there only have been three times out of 12 that a team has won when their Impact Player has batted at number five or lower.

The batsmen who have been replaced by Impact Player-Bowler, however, have managed to take their team home 12 out of 14 times they have hit a 50+ score and 11 of them have been in the opening position.

There, however, have only been two instances in 50 matches so far that a batsman has replaced a batsman as an Impact Player - both times by Rajasthan Royals - once while batting second and once while batting first. In match 32 against RCB, Royals replaced Devdutt Paddikal (52 off 34) with Abdul Basith (1 not out off 1) but lost the match by seven runs as Basith, who came in at 19.4, could not score 10 needed to win.

The other time the Royals decided to replace a batsman with a batsman was against Gujarat Titans in match 48 where Riyan Parag replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal. Batting first, Jaiswal fell as the second wicket having scored 14 off 11 and Parag came in at number four with RR at 60/3.

Parag, however, could not make much of an impact as he scored only four off six balls and the team could manage only 118 runs, losing by nine wickets.

Rohit, who is yet to fire in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season has been at the gunpoint of several critics with Shastri mentioning different reasons for his debacle of form. Despite criticism, Rohit continues to take charge of the MI side while he will also lead India in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final in June.

"The resources that you had two or three years ago isn't quite the same. The challenges as a captain might have doubled for him. The work as a captain would have doubled as opposed to two years ago when everything was nice, set - go out there and do the job," Shastri said about Rohit's captaincy while he spoke on ESPNcricinfo.

So far in the IPL 2023, Rohit has scored&nbsp; 184 runs with only fifty to his name and clearly has been a shadow of himself. He has averaged 18.40 so far in the IPL 2023 and has been striking at 127.

Interestingly, not since 2020 has Rohit hit multiple fifties in his IPL which is another major concern for the franchise and the India skipper.

"And then comes the challenge of how do you get them [the team] going, how do you motivate that bunch, how do you create a combination, how do you see who is the best in that lot to fit in and deliver at a certain stage of the game,” added Shastri.

Commentating at IPL, Shastri also believes the dip in form has taken its toll on the captaincy of Rohit. Mumbai Indians finished bottom of the IPL in 2022 standings while the current season is an upgrade but with ups and downs. They have not been in the top four of the IPL for the entire season and will need to finish strongly to claim a playoff berth.

"If you start getting on a purple patch where you are scoring runs, the job as a captain becomes much easier, the body language on the field changes, that energy on the field is different as opposed to when you are not getting runs. You can go flat no matter who you are," Shastri said.

Mumbai Indians and Rohit will next take the field on Tuesday against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium with a win for either side firing them to the top four.

A video released on the LSG Twitter account on Sunday saw players from the team wave a final goodbye to Wood before he departed to England.

"For the birth of my daughter. So, sadly, but for a good reason to go home. Hopefully, I might be able to come back and hopefully, you will be able to see me again. I am sorry that unfortunately I have not played more and in the four games that I have managed to play, I have managed to get a few wickets and hopefully, I can charge in again," the England speedster said.

"It's a great team togetherness here. I really love the team, the backroom staff are fantastic and it has been great to see the lads do well over different parts of the tournament," Mark Wood said in the video.

LSG have endured a tough couple of weeks having lost the services of skipper KL Rahul who injured his hamstring while playing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) while Jaydev Unadkat also had a shoulder issue. With Wood’s departure, the situation only gets tougher for the franchise while they sit third in the league with 11 points.

"One last push and get into those playoffs and make it to the finals. That's the goal and as a group, we understand that. It is tough in sports, you win some and you lose some but the lads are training hard. There are some fantastic characters in the group and they really try everything for your team. So keep believing and back them up, and I am sure they'll come good," Wood concluded.

LSG will next take the field on Saturday, May 13 when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. A win for LSG will see them cement their place in the top four while a defeat could be a spanner in the work with only three matches remaining of the league phase of the season.

IPL 2023: Wriddhiman Saha wreaks havoc against LSG, scores fastest fifty of season for GT

Abdul Samad’s last-ball six pulled off the highest successful run-chase for SunRisers Hyderabad as they hunted down 215 against Rajasthan Royals with four wickets in hand.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first looked like the best call for Rajasthan Royals. The batter in hottest form, Yashasvi Jaiswal, started from where he left, leaving everyone, including the commentators in awe of his game. His partner, and perhaps the best T20I batter, Jos Buttler, finally found his lost mojo as he smashed the bowlers to all parts of the ground.&nbsp;

Following Jaiswal’s wicket inside the Powerplay, captain Sanju Samson joined Buttler in the middle, and what happened next turned heads all over. Both made sure they put up a show worth remembering for all the viewers as they stitched a 138-run stand that saw Buttler approaching his first hundred of the season.

SunRisers Hyderabad – whose batting unit hasn’t clicked this season, brought in the impact player Anmolpreet Singh alongside Abhishek Sharma to open the innings. Anmol had the run rate going for them, scoring 33 before Yuzvendra Chahal picked him in his first over.&nbsp;

"But make sure that he is fit and available for all ICC tournaments and he will be a great asset for Sri Lanka. Not to forget, he is a really young boy. Last time [in 2022], when he came, he was slightly more lean, but he has added muscle, which means he has got pretty strong. Asked to chase 140, CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (30) and Devon Conway (44) gave a good start to the side before the former was scalped by Piyush Chawla. With the required rate of less than seven, MI found it hard to sustain a formidable batting line-up of CSK as Ajinkya Rahane (21) and Ambati Rayudu (12) helped Conway on their way to a big win.

The 54-run partnership between the duo was over after Matheesha Pathirana castled Wadhera for a well-made 64 off 51 balls after the ball hit his middle stump. MI was at 123/5 in 17.4 overs and ended at 139/8.

CSK will next take on Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, May 10 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai before they face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the same venue next Sunday. Mumbai on the horizon will look to bounce back when they take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai before hosting Gujarat Titans next Friday.

IPL 2023: 'They were late...': Former SA skipper left 'SURPRISED' by Sanju Samson's tactics against Gujarat

Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar thinks that CSK skipper MS Dhoni could be the head of Indian men cricket team in near future. Dhoni, who has already retired from the international cricket, continues to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The World Cup 2011 winner, however, is speculated to bid goodbye to IPL at the end of ongoing season.

Gavaskar, while speaking to Star Sports, said, “MS Dhoni could take over the coaching role (in the Indian team) a little bit later. I think that is how it should be. I do believe that you need a little bit of cooling off period before you take any assignment with the team (after retiring as a player)."

Gavaskar, however, opined that Dhoni should take the position, if he does, after a cooling-off period of 2-3 years.

Notably, Dhoni's retirement rumours are doing rounds ever since the current IPL season began. Recently, former India batter Mohammed Kaif also said that Dhoni is playing a mentor now rather than a player.

"Mahi is no longer playing as a player but as a mentor. He chooses the team. Let's get on the field. He does not tease the seniors much but keeps on teaching the youth all the time. He wants every player, playing under him, to perform well as it will make the team's job easier," Kaif said on Star Sports' Cricket Live.

Dhoni has also thanked crowd for multiple times for coming out wearing yellow jersey and supporting him wherever CSK has gone to play.
