While KKR spinners -- Sunil Narine (2 for 16), Varun Chakaravarthy (4 for 15), and Suyash Sharma (3 for 30) -- starred with the ball by sharing nine scalps, it was pace-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur who set the game with a blistering 29-ball 68 and also returned with 1 for 15. After the flop show of KKR's top order, Shardul went bonkers from one end and stitched a match-winning 103-run stand with Rinku Singh (33-ball 46).&nbsp;

"IPL is all about playing in front of your home team, home ground, home fans. It's been a few years since we have had this environment. I am happy and ready to go. Hopefully, we can get the ball rolling and start well," Russell said. Russell highlighted that he always gives his best whenever he dons the colours of KKR, while also underlining that it is a special feeling to represent them. "I always try to do my best whenever I represent KKR, but it's something special when you are home. After a loss in the season-opener, to defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT), MS Dhoni-led CSK emerged on top, at the Chepauk, with a 12-run win in a high-scoring thriller.

Dhoni had a memorable homecoming as he slammed a 3-ball 12, laced with two sixes, and used his bowlers judiciously to restrict LSG to 205 for 7 after they were off to a flying start in pursuit of 218. After CSK made 217-7, LSG were 79 for no loss in less than six overs with opener Kyle Mayers (53) going bonkers. Dhoni brought his spinners Moeen Ali (4 fior 26) and Mitchell Santer (1 for 21) to curb the run-flow and account for regular breakthroughs.

Due to Moeen-Santner's disciplined bowling, using the longer side of the ground to perfection, Dhoni didn't use star spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Batting first on a lively pitch, Shaw tried to take on GT's Mohammed Shami but could only guide a short ball towards mid-on with seven to his name.

Shaw's failure did not go well with former India opener Virender Sehwag who said that Shaw has gotten out the same way many times now and should learn from his mistakes.

“He has been dismissed playing those kinds of shots so many times…but he should also learn from his mistakes, right? Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and is now playing Test, ODIs and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in IPL. He has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600 odd runs in an IPL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. Notably, DC's Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly had before that start of the season that he'll soon be playing for India.

"I think Prithvi Shaw is ready to play for India. Whether he gets an opportunity will depend on slots. I am sure Rohit Sharma and selectors have a close eye on him. He is a good player and ready,” Ganguly had told Times of India before the start of IPL 2023.

Shaw, who scored 12 runs in DC's opening game against LSG, was also predicted to have a breakout 2023 season by DC coach Ricky Ponting.

"He’s in a better physical shape than I’ve ever seen him before. I spoke to him the other day about his attitude, the way he’s working, and how things are going. I honestly feel that this is going to be his biggest season in the IPL. He just has that different look in his eye this year. You can see, he’s hungrier than ever," Ponting had said.

Former India batter Sunil Gavaskar heaped great praise on Tamil Nadu and Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan after his match-winning knock of 62 not out off just 48 balls against Delhi Capitals.

"What you saw with Sai Sudharsan, even in the previous game, is confidence. Yes, he played a few games in the IPL last year. He got a few opportunities, he played a couple of good 30-plus innings," said Gavaskar.

Thanks to Sudharsan, GT overcame early blows dealt by DC while chasing a moderate 163 and eventually won by six wickets to register their second consecutive win in the league. Gavaskar talked about how Sudharsan looked confident and gave the impression that he is very comfortable.

The highlight of southpaw's innings was three sixes he hit off DC's South African pacer Anrich Nortje who was bowling thunderbolts on a lively Delhi pitch.

"He showed he is ready for the challenge. He was looking forward to the Nortje challenge. He realised he wouldn't be able to counter-attack Nortje with the speed that he was bowling. Later on when Nortje came for the second spell, he hit him for two sixes. Now that's smart cricket. Look, at this stage, I need to repair the innings, so he was watchful. In this format, lot of times everybody thinks you have to go over the top," added Gavaskar.

The former India batter also said that he feels Sudharsan is ready for big challenges and has all the markings to reach the very top level.

"It tells you he is ready for bigger challenges. He has got to not think now that he has done it. He has got to say to himself that there are steps to be taken before he reaches the very top level. But he has got all the makings. He is a top fielder as well, which is always a plus. It was his temperament that shone through. I have always believed that it's the temperament that separates the men from the boys. He has all the potential to become a top player soon," said Sunil Gavaskar.

The GT pacer, on the second ball of his and match's first over, almost had Warner's number when he bowled an out-swinger that brushed the off-stump but didn't dislodge the bail.
