As per a report in&nbsp;Cricbuzz, the BCCI can rely on two routes in front of it. The first is to carry on with the initial plan, i.e. to have all the 10 teams playing the home-away format, where the home games can continue to be held at their respective stadiums. The second option can be to host the entire league in the three venues in Mumbai (the Wankhede, CCI and DY Patil Stadium).

In addition, the Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI is considering to start the 15th edition from March 25, instead of April 02, to bring down the number of double-headers and day games as per the initial plan.&nbsp;

KING KOHLI BECOMES A PROUD FATHER&nbsp;BEFORE NATIONAL DUTY RESUMES

The year started for Kohli with some needless noise on his much-talked about paternity leave. On January 11, Kohli turned proud father&nbsp;as he welcomed his first child, daughter named Vamika, along with wife Anushka Sharma.&nbsp;

Watching India's glorious run in the Australia Tests Down Under by being miles away, Kohli returned to international cricket to take charge in the home Tests versus England. Losing his first Test of the year versus Joe Root &amp; Co., Kohli inspired India's comeback as the hosts romped past the Englishmen in the remainder of the series to win the four-match series 3-1&nbsp;and book a place in the WTC final.&nbsp;

Kohli, however, ended the series with 172 runs, including two fifty-plus scores, at an average of 28.66.&nbsp;

India then turned to the five T20Is and three ODIs against the same opposition. Facing a competitive Eoin Morgan-led side, India were tested before they won the series 3-2. The then Indian captain Kohli ended with 231 runs (most runs in bilateral T20Is involving Test-playing nations) to be adjudged the Player-of-the-Series.&nbsp;

In the ODIs, Kohli had two good outings with two fifties, but continued to remain away from triple-figure knocks.&nbsp;He, however, led his troops to a 2-1 series win. He was tested to the core as captain in terms of his bowling changes and field settings throughout the series against the ODI World champions.&nbsp;

IPL AMID COVID-19 SECOND WAVE

The IPL 2021 edition was the next assignment for Kohli. Leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the right-hander started the season on a high with back-to-back victories. While RCB did lose the plot to an extend before the COVID-19 second wave halted the tournament, Kohli's numbers with the bat was pretty mediocre with 198 runs at 33 in 7 games. His strike-rate remained below 120 on six outings.

GLORIOUS CHANCE RUINED IN WTC FINAL

The biggest assignment for Kohli, both as captain and batsman, came when he led India to the WTC final versus New Zealand in Southampton in mid-June. While many termed India as the overwhelming favourites, it seemed as if Kohli would finally be able to break the national side's jinx of not being able to win an ICC title since 2013. However, all hopes were dented as his year remained ordinary.&nbsp;

His returns with the bat were 44&nbsp;and 13&nbsp;as India lost convincingly by 8 wickets to lose the marquee title. Thus, the team had no choice but to revamp soon as the second cycle commenced with India's five Tests versus England in the United Kingdom, from August 3.

THE HIGHS AGAINST HOSTS ENGLAND

While India rode on KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma's batting performances, Kohli continued to remain below par despite few good innings. He averaged only 31.14 after the series was interrupted due to Covid crisis in Indian camp after the fourth and penultimate Test.&nbsp;

TWO BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS - WHO SAW IT COMING?

The action moved to the second and final leg of IPL 2021, in the UAE. Kohli returned to lead RCB after making two massive announcements.&nbsp;

In mid-September, Kohli announced his decision to step aside as the T20I captain. He tweeted saying, "I have been fortunate enough to not only represent India but also lead the Indian Cricket Team to my utmost capability. I thank everyone who has supported me in my journey as the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team."

"I couldn't have done it without them - the boys, the support staff, the selection committee, my coaches, and each and every Indian who prayed for us to win. Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all 3 formats and captaining regularly for last 5-6 years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian Team in Test and ODI Cricket. I have given everything to the Team during my time as T20 Captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 Team as a batsman moving forward."

"Of course, arriving at this decision took a lot of time. After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi bhai and also Rohit, who have been an essential part of the leadership group, I've decided to step down as the T20 Captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is working towards developing an Indian Premier League (IPL)-like T20 league for women cricketers. BCCI secretary Jay Shah recently opened up regarding the Indian cricket board's plans to host a T20 league for women cricketers in India in the future.

A number of Indian players have been plying their trade in women's T20 leagues around the globe and have been garnering praise for their brilliant performances. Eight Indian players were part of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia this year where India's T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur had bagged the Player of the Series award.

Harmanpreet scored 399 runs and picked up 15 wickets in the season to take the Player of the Tournament award. The likes of Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma and &nbsp;Jemimah Rodrigues had also impressed in the league with their heroics. As women's cricket continues to reach greater heights, Shah assured the fans of BCCI soon introducing an IPL-like&nbsp;T20 league for women.

BCCI has already been conducting the Women's T20 Challenge which is a short tournament during an IPL season. The tournament, however, has only two teams and is yet to be scaled at a higher level with the introduction of more players and teams.

“Players like Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur have been very vocal about India having its own T20 league and helping overhaul the standard of the game in India,” he said.

“Having a league similar to the IPL will surely benefit our cricketers as they will get to play alongside international stars. Other than Smriti and Harmanpreet, other Indian team women cricketers did well in leagues like The Hundred and WBBL. Among the players who are keen to rejoin CSK and play under Dhoni is veteran India batter Rayudu, who was recently seen in action for Andhra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, believes he has a lot of cricket left in him and can continue playing&nbsp;for the next three years.

"I would love to keep playing till I am in good form and fit. I will be ready for the next cycle, which is three years and I am working hard on my fitness," Rayudu was quoted as saying by PTI.

"I recently played the Vijay Hazare Trophy which is five one-day games in six days which I got through well. I am in good shape and I hope to continue to play at least for the next three years," the 36-year old added.

Rayudu has played a vital role in CSK's success since joining the franchise in the 2018 season. He played 61 matches for CSK and scored 1500 runs at an average of 34.09 and a strike rate close to 130. He played an instrumental role in CSK's title triumph in 2018 and scored runs consistently in the next three seasons as well.

The Hyderabad star revealed he has not had any formal conversations yet with the team but&nbsp;is hopeful of reuniting with CSK at the mega auction next year. The IPL mega auction is set to take place in February next year and will feature a host of superstars who are set to go under the hammer.

"I would definitely love to play for CSK. Formally, there has not been any communication with me so far, But I am hoping to get picked by them and have a successful league again," said Rayudu.

CVC Capitals have reportedly been handed a clean chit by Justice &nbsp;KS Radhakrishnan in the investigation surrounding their investment in some of the betting firms in the UK. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to hand the Letter of Intent (LOI) to CVC Capital after their acquisition of the Ahmedabad franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

However, as per a report in Cricbuzz, the Indian cricket board has recieved and adopted a report from Radhakrishnan, a retired judge of the Supreme Court, who headed a three-member external panel to investigate the matter. The panel has given a clean chit to CVC Capital to own the franchise in the league and an announcement is expected soon in the matter.

"An opinion on CVC was sought by the BCCI. The panel has given its opinion. The committee's involvement ended once the opinion was given. Now it is up to the BCCI to accept or reject it," sources were quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

The BCCI had extended the deadline for the players draft for the two new teams - Lucknow and Ahmedabad due to the uncertainty surrounding CVC Capital's ownership rights. CVC Capital had acquired the Ahmedabad franchise with a winning bid of INR 56.25 billion (Rs 5625 crore) earlier this year. However, it was awaiting the Letter of Intent from BCCI.

The Sanjeev Goenka-led RPSG Group which had bought the Lucknow IPL team had been immediately cleared and the LOI was handed over to them by the board. Both the new teams can make at least three picks from the pool of non-retained players ahead of the mega auction in February this year.

As per a report in&nbsp;Cricbuzz, the BCCI is looking to call a meeting with franchise owners in January, 2022 where they can discuss and prepare an alternate strategy to conduct the 15th edition of the league. Though the primary objective remains to host the tournament across the country in the usual home-away format, the Omicron threat can cause severe problems.

As per the portal, the Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI is eyeing to begin the 15th edition on April 02 next year in Chennai. However, if the situation worsens due to the Omicron scare, the board might contemplate organising&nbsp;the tournament in just one or two states.

"The meeting will be mainly introductory in nature with the BCCI on-boarding the owners of the two new teams - Lucknow and Ahmedabad. They are also exploring the idea of holding the whole tournament just in Mumbai and Pune or in the Gujarat cities of Ahmedabad, Baroda and Rajkot if the Covid/Omicron situation worsens.&nbsp;

"I am delighted and grateful for the opportunity given to me to work with the Lucknow IPL franchise," said Dahiya in a statement posted by the RPSG group on their Twitter account. 
 
Dahiya had previously served as the assistant coach of two-time IPL winning team Kolkata Knight Riders. He has also worked as the talent scout for Delhi Capitals, apart from coaching the Delhi Ranji team.

Franchise cricket has raised the profile of women`s cricket and a full-fledged Indian Premier League (IPL) is the "next step" for its growth, New Zealand captain Sophie Devine said.

The Indian cricket board currently hosts a short three-team women`s competition along with the lucrative men`s IPL which will welcome two new franchises and become a 10-team affair next year. Devine cited the success of the Women`s Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia and its impact to make her point.

"The success of the WBBL in Australia has been enormous in raising the profile, and the standard of cricket as well has certainly improved," Devine said on Monday at an event to mark the beginning of live cricket streaming on Amazon Prime Video from Jan. 1.

"I`d love to see a woman`s IPL kick off. I think it`s certainly the next step in growing the game globally for the women side of things.

"So fingers crossed and in the next few years, there might be something on the cards," the 32-year-old said. 
Team mate Suzie Bates said franchise cricket had "drastically" changed women`s game.

"Any franchise opportunities supporting the international game is the key for the game growing and India is the next big step in my opinion after the success of the WBBL and The Hundred competition in England," Bates said.

All-rounder Amelia Kerr, who has played the women`s competition in India, echoed the sentiment.

For instance, Lahore's pitch has some support for the bowlers, whereas you see higher scores in Karachi," Javed was quoted as saying by samaa.tv by&nbsp;PTV Sports.

"On the other hand if you look at IPL, there is only one type of cricket being played there due to extremely flat surfaces and low-quality bowling," added the former Pakistan pacer.

That is where I joined Pre KG, LKG, UKG, primary school, then I did my middle school, and then starting high school and completing 10th standard board exams, I moved to a different school.
