Chennai Super King (CSK) parted ways with one of their most iconic cricketers Suresh Raina at the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction. Raina had been part of the CSK squad since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 and has been one of their greatest servants over the years.

Raina played twelve seasons in the IPL for CSK and led Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017 when CSK were banned from the tournament for two years. He remains the highest run-getter of all time for the franchise and has played an instrumental role in their success over the years.

However, Raina was not bought back by CSK at the IPL 2022 mega auction this year after being released by the franchise following the conclusion of IPL 2021 last year. Apart from his age, fitness issues and his poor form were the major reasons behind CSK not getting the veteran Indian batter back at the IPL auction.

Nonetheless, Raina will go down as one of the greatest IPL players of all time and will remain a legend for CSK. Bidding him an emotional farewell after parting ways, CSK on Monday (February 21) shared a video capturing Raina's best moments throughout his IPL journey with CSK from 2008 to 2021.

"Inside out since '08! Anbuden Nandri Chinna Thala @imraina," CSK captioned the post. Raina is fondly called the 'Chinna Thala' by CSK fans for his contributions towards the franchise's success over the years in the IPL.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday (February 20) shared a video of their pre-auction planning which was done ahead of the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction. RCB roped in a number of stars players at the IPL mega auction but their key signings were former South Africa captain Faf Du Plessis and Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga.

RCB made former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Du Plessis their first signing at the IPL 2022 mega auction after spending a sum of Rs 7 crore (INR 70 million) to secure his services for the upcoming season. Du Plessis had a phenomenal season for CSK last year as he ended up as the second-highest run-getter in IPL 2021 with 633 runs from 16 matches.

In the video shared by RCB of their pre-auction planning, the franchise's Director of Cricket Mike Hesson can be seen stressing why signing Du Plessis will be a great move for them. Hesson also goes on to predict that CSK will try to get the South African batter back at the auction and that not many will expect RCB to make a move for him.

“With the options we have in our current squad and the uncertainty surrounding those, and the options we have at the auction, where we think we can gain a real advantage is with Faf du Plessis who is highly experienced. He has captained South Africa for long, won the IPL many times and is a very consistent performer in terms of how he operates. He's a strong character and highly respected. These are a lot of attributes you want in a leader,” Hesson says in the video.

“It's pretty clear that CSK will likely try and get him back, as they do with all their players. He's also in the marquee group; for us to have some structure going forward, we need to allocate some budget to get that. We would want to go through teams who might look at him. As it turned out, CSK did try to get back Du Plessis at the IPL 2022 mega auction but pulled out of the race after the bidding went out of their budget. RCB ended up getting the experienced batter for a sum of Rs 7 crore. Apart from Du Plessis, Hesson also states in the video that RCB should prioritise signing Sri Lankan all-rounder Hasaranga on day 1 of the mega auction.

“We see his (Faf's) role along with Hasaranga as two most important overseas roles to get on the first day. There are a number of different permutations and combinations to get to this point and I'm sure there will continue to be some. But the primary role is to start and fine-tune how we have to go about achieving that. The priority on Day 1 is to get Hasaranga and Faf,” Hesson said in the video.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is unlikely to take any action against India U-19 World Cup-winning all-rounder Rajvardhan Hangargekar despite allegations of age-fudging levelled against him. Hangargekar was part of the Yash Dhull-led India U1-9 side which defeated England to win the ICC U-19 World Cup 2022 trophy earlier this year.

Om Prakash Bakoria, the Commissioner of Sports and Youth Services of Maharashtra, had accused Hangargekar of age fraud in a letter written to the BCCI. Bakoria alleged that Hangargekar's actual age is 21 and that his birth date was changed from January 10, 2001, to November 10 2002 during his readmission in grade 8th. Bakoria also reportedly attached proof of the age fudging by Hangargekar along with his letter to BCCI.

However, the Indian cricket board is unlikely to take any action against the young all-rounder, as per a report in Sportstar. As per the report, BCCI will not take action against the player as he had passed the age-verification protocol which is based on a&nbsp;bone test. The bone test was conducted on Hangargekar at the time of his inclusion in the age-group inter-state system.

A BCCI insider confirmed to Sportstar that Hangargekar's age was found to be par with his documents as per the TW3 bone test, which uses X-Rays of the left hand and wrist to examine the skeletal maturity of a person to determine their bone age. The test is used by the BCCI for initiating cricketers into age-group competitions.

In his letter, Bakoria alleged that the conduct of Hangargekar is against sports integrity and ethics. He claimed that the all-rounder's birth date was changed by the headmaster of his school at the time of his admission in grade 8th. Hangargekar was a student of the Terna Public School.

“The conduct of the Mr Rajvardhan Hangargekar is against the sports integrity and ethics. It deprives fair play and results into damages to the reputation of the nation. Therefore, you are requested to take strict action in accordance with the law,” Bakoria wrote in his letter to BCCI.

“If the Head Master requires any corrections in birth date, it is necessary to take prior permission of Education officer of concerned district. However, no such permission has been taken for making changes in the birth date of Mr Rajvardhan Hangargekar," Bakoria further alleged.

As per a report in local Marathi publication Saamana, Hangargekar, who hails from a village in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra, was a student of the Terna Public School in the area. His birth date was changed from January 10, 2001 to November 10, 2002 during his readmission in the 8th grade in the school.

The change in his birth date made Hangargekar eligible to play for the India U-19 team in the U-19 World Cup 2022 which the country went on to win after beating England in the final. In his letter to the BCCI, Bakoria has reportedly stated that IAS officer Rahul Gupta has investigated the age fraud case and it was revealed that Hangargekar's birth date was listed as January 10, 2001 in the school records before being changed to November 10, 2002 at the time of his admission in the 8th grade.

“Dharashiv CEO Rahul Gupta investigated Rajvardhan Hangargekar’s birth date. It was found that he was admitted to a public school in Dharashiv where his birthdate was listed as 10 January 2001. However, that was changed to 10th November 2002 before eighth grade,” Bakoria wrote in his letter to the BCCI, as per InsideSport.

"But, when everyone came, I saw him get off the car. Everyone was there, PP (Parthiv Patel) Bhai, Chahal Bhai. I just ran towards Bhaiya (Virat) and hugged him. It was the best surprise of my life. England's performances in Tests have come under the scanner after Root &amp; Co.'s poor show against Australia in the Ashes. The 4-0 defeat also led to the departure of England head coach Chris Silverwood and batting coach Graham Thorpe. Captain Root was also slammed by many with his captaincy credentials being questioned by former cricketers.

Arthur, who is currently serving as the head coach of the English county side Derbyshire, said county cricket was not to be blamed for England's poor show in Test cricket. He suggested the board stop players from heading to the IPL, blaming the league for England's downfall in Tests.

"England haven't scored enough runs. It's as simple as that. If you want to lay the blame, you can lay it right there. County cricket isn't to blame," Arthur told The Times.

"For so long county cricket has been a really good producer of international players. I don't think there's a problem with the system ... If you want the strength early season, unfortunately, you are going to have to stop the players going to the IPL.

"They are playing there in the early part of the season just before the first tests. You need your best players playing county cricket to prepare for that," he added.
