Talking about Ashwin's performances for the DC camp, he attained 13 scalps in 15 games in the 2020 edition whereas returned with only 7 wickets in 13 games in the last season. He remained economical in the last two seasons but didn't do anything extra ordinary in this year's edition. Meanwhile, Iyer took charge of the DC line-up in the second half of the IPL 2018 season. In 2019, he took DC to their first-ever playoffs since 2012 and led them to their maiden final in IPL 2020. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag is confident David Warner will be approached by the two new teams who are set to be inducted into the Indian Premier League (IPL) from the 2022 season. The two new teams - Ahmedabad and Lucknow franchises will enter the upcoming mega auction with an aim to build a strong squad from scratch for IPL 2022.

Warner, who endured a turbulent IPL 2021 and was benched by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the majority of the season, looks set to leave the franchise ahead of the next edition. If SRH releases Warner, the Australian batter is set to be in great demand at the mega auction considering his recent exploits in the T20 World Cup 2021.

Warner notched up 289 runs for Australia at the tournament and was awarded the Player of the Tournament for his batting heroics. With SRH likely to let go of him, the door will be open for the other nine teams to negotiate a move with Warner. The two new teams have the right to pick three players outside of the mega auction and they bot might target the Aussie star.

"I believe the two new franchises that are entering the fray, they will have the option of picking three fresh options, and David Warner could well be in their radar," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

The former India opener, who played for the likes of Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in the IPL, said Warner can be a great captain and a reliable opener for any of the two new teams, and that they can build their team around the 35-year-old, who has been one of the most consistent performers in the IPL over the years.

"They can get a dependable opener and a great captain. They can get two more players like him and you can form a team around those three players. No doubt, Warner will be approached by one of the two teams as captain and player," Sehwag added.

Warner had started the IPL 2021 season as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad before being sacked from captaincy midway through the season as he was replaced by Kane Williamson. The experienced left-hand batter was then dropped from the playing XI and managed to make only eight appereances throughout the season with 195 runs to his name.

However, he redeemed himself with a stellar campaign for Australia in the T20 World Cup 2021 as he scored 289 runs in seven games to finish as the second-highest run-getter of the tournament and played an instrumental role in helping his team clinch their maiden title.

Indian Premier League (IPL)'s newly-inducted Lucknow franchise has approached former India head coach Gary Kirsten to be their head coach ahead of the start of the new season in 2022. Kirsten had led India to an ODI World Cup triumph in 2011 and has vast experience in coaching having mentored a number of top teams around the world.

Kirsten had coached Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL in the past but failed to inspire them to a title triumph. After two unsuccessful stints in the league, Kirsten might be motivated to embark on a new challenge with the Lucknow franchise which has been bought by the RPSG Group.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, the Lucknow franchise has not only approached Kirsten but also former India pacer Ashish Nehra. While Kirsten has been offered the post of head coach, Nehra has been approached for the role of a consultant. The final decision, however, is yet to be taken.

Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be the two new franchises set to make their debut in the league from next season as IPL becomes a ten-team tournament. RPSG Group made a staggering bid of INR 70.09 billion (Rs 7090 crore) to purchase the Lucknow franchise.

The two teams will get a fair shot at building their respective squads from scratch as the BCCI is all set to conduct a mega player auction ahead of the new season. The existing eight teams have been allowed a maximum of only four retentions and there will be no Right to Match (RTM) cards this time around.

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar hailed India's new T20I skipper Rohit Sharma, saying that it is a 'new beginning' for Indian Twenty20 cricket under his leadership. Rohit will succeed Virat Kohli as captain when they take on New Zealand in a three-match Twenty20 series at home this month. Fellow opener KL Rahul has been named Rohit's deputy. Kohli had stepped down as captain ahead of the T20 World Cup, where India failed to make the semi-finals after finishing third in the group behind Group 2 leaders Pakistan and New Zealand. ALSO READ | Tasmania to submit pitch to country's cricket board to swipe Ashes Test from Perth Commenting on the Indian cricket board BCCI's decision, Gavaskar told India Today, "Rohit Sharma is absolutely ready to carry the baton forward. It is a new beginning for Indian T20 cricket under the leadership of Rohit." Sharma made his debut in 2007 for the national team, initially playing limited-overs cricket before being included in the Test team in 2013. He has also captained the Mumbai Indians to victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) five times. Weighing in on Rohit's IPL success, Gavaskar said, "Generally, a captain is only as good as his team. I know Rohit has won five IPL trophies under his captaincy but leading a national team is completely different to leading your state team or franchise." In the series against New Zealand, Kohli has been rested against the Kiwis along with pacemen Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The selectors have made a number of changes to the squad that featured in the United Arab Emirates, bringing in the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan and Harshal Patel, while dropping all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The first T20 is scheduled for Jaipur on November 17 followed by games in Ranchi on November 19 and Kolkata on November 21. India head coach Ravi Shastri said he was mentally drained ahead of his last game in charge of the team. India locked horns with Namibia in their final Super 12 game in the T20 World Cup 2021 on Monday (November 08). The game is all set to be Shastri's last as the head coach of the team as the Men in Blue have already been knocked out of the tournament after two defeats and two wins in their first four matches.

India's fate rested on the shoulders of Afghanistan, who lost their final Super 12 game against New Zealand on Sunday to confirm India's ouster from the tournament. Shastri, who had been appointed as India's full-time head coach in the year 2017, said his players are mentally and physically drained and that the Indian team would have ideally liked a bigger gap between the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and the T20 World Cup 2021.

The second phase of IPL 2021 concluded on October 15th while India's campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 began just eight days later with a high-profile clash against Pakistan in Dubai on October 24th. While Shastri insisted a bigger break would have been ideal, he said it was not an excuse from his side and that the Indian team is not scared of losing while trying to win.

"I am mentally drained but I expect that at my age. These guys are physically and mentally drained, six months in a bubble and we would have ideally liked a bigger gap between the IPL and the World Cup," Shastri said ahead of India's game against Namibia on Monday.

"It's when the big games come and when the pressure hits you - you are not that switched on as you should be. And it's not an excuse. We take defeat because we are not scared of losing. Because in trying to win, you will lose a game. Here we didn't try to win because that X-factor was missing," he added.

Not an excuse, but would have liked bigger gap between IPL and T20 World Cup 2021: Ravi Shastri

The legendary Kapil Dev has slammed some members of the current Indian team for prioritising playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over playing for the country. Kapil's comments come after India were knocked out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 post Afghanistan's 8-wicket defeat at the hands of New Zealand in their final Super 12 clash.

India needed a favour from Afghanistan to remain alive in the race for the semi-finals with a game remaining against Namibia. However, the Virat Kohli-led side was knocked out from the tournament as New Zealand secured a berth in the semis with an emphatic win on Sunday.

World Cup-winning captain Kapil has urged the BCCI to plan the schedule of the Indian cricket team in a better way while insisting that playing for the country should always be the priority for the players. He also expressed disappointment over players prioritising IPL over playing for the country.

"When players prioritise IPL over playing for the country, we what can we say. Players should take pride in playing for their nation. I don't know their financial conditions so can't say much," Kapil Dev said on ABP News.

"But I feel that first in line should be the country's team and then franchises. I'm not saying do not play cricket there (IPL), but the responsibility is now on the BCCI to plan its cricket better. To not repeat mistakes we committed in this tournament is the biggest learning for us," he added.

Kapil further stated that the Indian team should quickly move on from the debacle at the T20 World Cup 2021 and should focus on the future. The former captain believes there should have been some gap between the IPL 2021 and the T20 World Cup which potentially took a toll on players mentally and physically as they were playing in strict bio-bubbles since a long time.

"It's time to look at the future. You should start planning right away. It's not that since the World Cup is over, the Indian team's entire cricket is too. Go and plan. I just feel that there should have been some gap between IPL and the World Cup. But this is certainly there that our players today have a lot of exposure but they could not make the most of it," said Kapil.

Earlier, India's premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah and bowling coach Bharat Arun had opened up on players facing mental fatigue due to playing excessive cricket in bio-bubbles in the build-up to the T20 World Cup 2021.

With Rahul Dravid already named his successor as the new head coach of the Indian team, Shastri might continue in a coaching role in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Though he has not coached an IPL team before, Shastri has reportedly been approached by the Ahmedabad franchise for the 2022 season.

The Ahmedabad franchise will be one of the two new teams who will be included in the competition from next year making IPL a ten-team affair. As per a report in Cricbuzz, CVC Capitals, the owners of the Ahmedabad franchise are likely to rope in Shastri and two other members of his current support staff in the Indian team - bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar.

The report stated that the owners of the Ahmedabad team approached Shastri recently in Dubai. However, the India head coach is currently focused on the Virat Kohli-led side's campaign in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 and will take a decision only after the conclusion of the showpiece event. He has sought time till the end of the World Cup to decide if he wants a coaching role in the IPL.

A noted commentator, Shastri reportedly also has offers from major broadcasters over a return to commentary. However, he will not be able to work as a commentator for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) if he accepts an offer from an IPL team. He can work with a broadcaster despite being associated with an IPL side.

Shastri was appointed as the full-time head coach of the Indian team on an initial contract of two years. His contract was renewed till the T20 World Cup 2021 after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup in 2019. Under Shastri, India are yet to win a major ICC trophy but have registered some memorable series wins both at home and away from home, including back-to-back Test series wins in Australia.

Ravi Shastri to coach an IPL team? Ahmedabad franchise approach outgoing India head coach - Report

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) co-owner N Srinivasan has opened up on the future of captain MS Dhoni ahead of the mega Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to conduct a mega auction ahead of the 2022 season to ensure the two new teams get a fair chance at building their respective squads from scratch. IPL will become a ten-team tournament from next year with the addition of Ahmedabad and Lucknow franchises.

With the two new teams in the fray, a lot of players will be in demand at the mega auction. The franchises have been asked to confirm their retention list by the BCCI, with the existing eight teams allowed to retain a maximum of four players. Each team can retain a maximum of only three Indian players and not more than two overseas players.

Chennai Super Kings will be one of the teams to watch out for as far as retentions are concerned as all eyes will be on Dhoni. The CSK skipper led the franchise to their fourth title in IPL 2021 and has not announced his retirement from IPL yet.

While CSK have already asserted they would want to retain Dhoni, there remain doubts over his future considering he is in the final lap of his career and it will cost a fortune for the franchise to retain him. Srinivasan said Dhoni doesn't want CSK to spend a lot of money on retaining him and explained why he said

"MS is a very fair person. He wanted the retention policy to come out as he didn’t want CSK to lose money trying to retain him. That is the reason why he gave different replies to people. However, he made a very regnant statement. On being asked about the legacy he left behind, he said I am not gone. So, that says it all," Srinivasan told Editorji.

As per the retentions rules, any team which wants to retain players will have to spend a huge amount from their purse of INR 900 million (Rs 90 crore). If a team decides to retain 4 players, it will have to spend INR 420 million (Rs 42 crore) in total if they want to retain four players, INR 330 million (Rs 33 crore) of they want to retain three players and INR 240 million (Rs 24 crore) of they want to retain two players.

CSK might have to spend at least INR 60-70 million (Rs 6-7 crore) if they want to retain Dhoni. Thus, Dhoni, who knows he might not play for the full three years of the contractual cycle from 2022 to 2025, will be worried about CSK spending too much money on him and not focusing on the rest of the squad.

However, when asked about the CSK skipper's future, Srinivasan remained tight-lipped but insisted it is a happy answer.

“I know the answer but I don’t know whether I should say it or not but it’s a happy answer," said the CSK co-owner, hinting that Dhoni mght continue with the four-time champions next year.

BCCI confirms retention policy for IPL 2022: Existing teams can retain 4, 3 picks for new sides - Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced that CVC Capitals and RPSG Group have emerged as the winners of the bidding for two new teams set to be introduced in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from the 2022 season.

BCCI confirmed that the RPSG Group clinched the ownership rights of the Lucknow franchise with a winning bid of INR 70.09 billion (Rs 7090 crore), and Irelia Company Pte Ltd. (CVC Capital) won the bod for the Ahmedabad franchise for INR 56.25 billion (Rs 5625 crore).

However, CVC Capital's alleged investments in betting companies outside India have put them in a spot of bother. The BCCI is reportedly looking into the company's investments in betting firms and will wait till the board's legal team has dome a complete check. The formalities are expected to be completed after Diwali.

“The formalities haven’t yet been completed, the BCCI legal team is going through it and we are expecting them to revert us post-Diwali,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

“The BCCI has full rights on whom they will allot the team, it’s the board’s discretion and we can only decide on a new IPL franchise (CVC) when the legal team reverts to us," he added.

BCCI is discouraged to form associations with companies in the betting business. Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi was one of the first to question BCCI's decision to hand the ownership rights of an IPL team to an organisation that has investments in betting companies.

“I guess betting companies can buy an IPL team. must be a new rule. Apparently, one qualified bidder also owns a big betting company. what next? does BCCI not do their homework? what can Anti-corruption do in such a case? #cricket,” Lalit Modi has said in a tweet.

BCCI investigating new IPL franchise owners CVC Capital's investments in betting companies - Report

Shreyas Iyer is likely to leave Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022. The star India batter was replaced as captain by wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant for the 2021 season of the league and is keen on looking for a leadership role elsewhere in the IPL.

As per a report in the Times of India, Iyer wants a leadership role and is unlikely to get it at Delhi Capitals, who were led to the playoffs by Pant this season. Thus, Iyer will be making himself available in the mega auction that is set to take place ahead of IPL 2022.

Iyer had joined Delhi Capitals in 2015 and has been with the franchise for seven seasons now. He was appointed as the captain midway through the 2018 season when Gautam Gambhir decided to step down from captaincy after the team's poor start to the season.

Iyer has since been a vital cog in the Delhi Capitals' batting line-up and has also been one of their most consistent performers with the bat. He led Delhi Capitals to their first final in the 2020 season in the UAE and has also led the team to the playoffs twice under his captaincy.

With the addition of two new teams in the IPL from the 2022 season, quality players like Iyer will be in huge demand if he makes himself available for the mega auction. Not just the two new IPL teams - Lucknow and Ahmedabad, but also other teams will be on the lookout for potential captaincy candidates.

He had to miss the first half of IPL 2021 due to a shoulder injury and was replaced by Pant as captain of DC. While many expected him to lead the side again in the second half of the season after returning, Pant remained the captain of the team.

Shreyas Iyer likely to leave Delhi Capitals in search of a leadership role ahead of IPL 2022 - Report

David Warner had a torrid time in the IPL 2021 edition, for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise. The swashbuckling left-hander didn't start off nicely with the bat in the first leg and SRH's back-to-back defeats didn't help the then captain's cause. His poor strike-rate along with his post-match presentations on Manish Pandey's omissions reportedly caused a rift between him and the team management. As a result, he was sacked as SRH captain before the final leg.

In the second leg, in UAE, Warner got a chance to play in the first two games for SRH but his low returns led to his ouster. In addition, he wasn't even asked to accompany the team on the ground. While he did return at the stands, he remained out of contention for Hyderabad, who ended at the bottom in IPL 14 points table. Thus, he all but confirmed his exit from the one-time winners' camp as this year's IPL neared its conclusion.

IPL 2022 will see two more teams joining the eight existing teams, from Lucknow and Ahmedabad. It will be interesting to see if either of the two new franchises take interest in Warner or he joins one of the other seven exiting teams.

David Warner had a torrid time in the IPL 2021 edition, for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise. The swashbuckling left-hander didn't start off nicely with the bat in the first leg and SRH's back-to-back defeats didn't help the then captain's cause.

From Adani Group to The Glazers: A look at full list of bidders and their amounts for two new IPL teams

After an intense bidding war, Sanjeev Goenka's RPSG Group and international investment firm CVC Capital placed the winning bids to clinch the ownership rights of the two new Indian Premier League (IPL) IPL teams set to be introduced in the league from the 2022 season. IPL, which is one of the best T20 cricket leagues in the world is all set to become a 10-team affair from next year.

The bidding war for the two new IPL teams took place in Dubai on Monday (October 25). The RPSG Group will own the Lucknow franchise in IPL after a staggering bid of INR 70.9 billion (Rs 7090 crore) while CVC Capital placed a winning bid of INR 56.25 billion (Rs 5625 crore) to bag the ownership rights of the Ahmedabad team.

There were a total of ten bidders in the fray to become the new owners of the two new IPL teams. Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Dharamsala, Cuttack, Guwahati and Indore were the six cities in the pool to become the base of the new IPL side, which will be introduced in the league from the next year.

A total of 22 potential bidders had picked up the tender document which were released by the BCCI earlier this month. The Indian cricket board had set the base price of each IPL team at INR 20 billion (Rs 2000 crore). However, with a number of competitors in the fray, the price was expected to go over INR 70 billion (Rs 7,000 crore).

On Monday, all the bidders were asked to submit two envelopes by the BCCI with one containing their personal credentials while the other with their financial credentials. A legal and audit was done by the BCCI officials following which the envelopes containing the bids were opened.

RPSG Group's staggering bid of INR 70.09 billion left many surprised as they outshone every other bidder by a huge margin. There were some prominent names in the fray like the Adani Group, The Glazers, who own Manchester United football club among others.

However, RPSG Group and CVC Capital emerged as the winners in the bidding war. RPSG Group had previously owned the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant franchise in the IPL and will be making their comeback to the cash-rich league once again.

"A lot of planning and calculation has gone into our bidding. I give credit to personal staff for winning the bid," Sanjiv Goenka of the RPSG Group was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set for a huge cash influx as the new broadcasting rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) might fetch up to USD 5 billion (approximately 36,000 crore INR) for the next five years. The IPL media rights are currently with Star India, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company India.

Star had outbid Sony India to clinch the IPL media rights last time around which are currently valued at USD 2.5 billion (Rs 16,347.50 crore INR). However, a US-based company among others has expressed interest in acquiring the IPL broadcasting rights for the new five-year cycle. The valuation could more than double this time around and reach around USD 5 billion.

Star currently holds the TV and digital rights for IPL from 2018 to 2022. As per a report in PTI, a US-based company had sent feelers to BCCI a while back while expressing their interest in buying the broadcasting rights of IPL for the next five years. However, any overseas company will need to have an Indian wing to be awarded the rights.

“There is a well-known US-based company which did send BCCI feelers some time back, expressing their serious interest in bidding for IPL media rights. With 10 teams playing IPL from 2022, the matches will go up to 74 and in any case, the valuation of the property increases,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI.

“But with two new teams about to fetch anything between Rs 7000 crore to 10,000 crore, the broadcast rights are certainly going to shoot through the roof. So expect the IPL broadcast rights to go for anything above USD 4 billion and maybe up to USD 5 billion,” he added.

The valuation of IPL's broadcasting rights for the next five-year cycle is also expected to double due to the addition of two news teams in the competition from the 2022 season. With ten teams into the fray, the number of matches will significantly increase which also effectively takes the media rights price much higher than before.

The bidding process for the two news teams has already started with several big brands and businesses showing interest in becoming new IPL owners. The two teams are likely to be announced by October 25.

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Eoin Morgan's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final of the IPL 2021 edition, in the UAE on October 15 to clinch their fourth title overall. Heading into the summit clash, the Yellow Army had a 3-match winning streak over KKR, who had come from behind to enter the season-finale after languishing at the bottom-half when the first leg of IPL 14 got halted.

Although KKR didn't win the coveted title, the two-time winners can be extremely proud of their campaign as they overcame several obstacles and showed great character and grit to make it to the season-finale, after a forgettable first-half (with two wins from seven games). Thus, Dhoni also praised KKR outfit at the post-match presentation after leading his side to another historic title.

"Before I start talking about CSK, it's important I talk about KKR. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to allow a maximum of four retentions ahead of the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022. With two new teams set to be added to the competition from the next year, BCCI will conduct a mega auction to give a fair chance to all ten teams to build a strong squad from scratch.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, BCCI finally seems to have found consensus on the player retention rules for the mega auction. The existing eight franchises are expected to be allowed to retain four players each. The teams can retain a maximum of three Indian and two overseas players with the total number of retentions not going beyond four.

As per the report, there is likely to be a cap on the number of uncapped players as well with teams unlikely to be allowed to retain more than two uncapped players. The retention rules were agreed upon in a meeting between the BCCI and the representatives of the IPL teams in the last few days post the conclusion of the IPL 2021 season in UAE.

There will be no Right to Match (RTM) cards available for the eight existing teams in the mega auction this time around. The purse for the auction is expected to be around 900 million rupees (Rs 90 crore). In the case of a franchise deciding to retain four players, they might have to part ways with up to 360-400 million rupees (Rs 36-40 crore) which will leave them with a significantly lower amount than teams who decide against retaining any player.

IPL teams to be allowed 4 retentions, no RTMs for mega auction ahead of 2022 season - Report

Recently, it was reported that the Manchester United's owners Glazers family are keen to bid for an IPL team for the upcoming 2022 edition. With the mega auction to be held later this year, two new IPL teams will join the cash-rich league and the BCCI is seeing many big names showing interest to bid for the two new teams ahead of the bidding process, scheduled to be held in Dubai on October 25 (Monday).

Ahead of the bidding, Bollywood star couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone's name has also been included among the list of prospective owners of the new IPL teams. Deepika already has a sports background, being the daughter of former badminton player Prakash Padukone. On the other hand, Ranveer is the brand ambassador of the NBA. In addition, the actor is also involved with several English Premier League (EPL) teams.

For the unversed, the BCCI had extended the deadline for the bidders till October 20. "The BCCI is not keen to give the rights to an off-shore company and will prefer Indian buyers but power equations can change the script dramatically,” the source was quoted as saying, Outlook reported. "Although it is a closed bid, we are expecting a fair and transparent process. The only hodgepodge could happen in the verification/elimination stage but it is unlikely BCCI will adopt unfair means to favour particular companies,” a bidder said on conditions of anonymity.

Bollywood's power couple Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone to bid for new IPL team: Reports

The Indian Premier League (IPL) remains immensely popular worldwide. After the conclusion of the 14th edition, in the UAE, the preparations have begun for the 2022 edition. The next season will also see two new IPL teams as the BCCI is eager to expand the cash-rich league, which will see more talents to enter the tournament and make a name globally.

As per a report by Times of India, the IPL can see some Manchester United flavour -- one of the most popular and successful football clubs -- as the Red Devils' owners Glazers family have shown interest to buy one among the two new IPL teams.

It is believed that the Glazer family have picked up the Invitation to Tender (ITT) document from the BCCI in order to purchase one of the two new teams for IPL 2022. For the unversed, the ITT does grant foreign companies to own a team. However, what is interesting to note that it will require them to set up a company in India if their bid is successful. It remains unknown whether the US-based Glazers will make a formal bid to own a franchise.

“A lot of people usually pick these tender documents to study and gather information that tends to be otherwise very useful from a larger industry perspective. For instance, buying a bid document will tell me more about what the BCCI is planning next, in terms of the league expansion, etc. For instance, if Disney has bought the tender document to buy the franchise, it doesn't mean Disney is interested in owning a franchise. It will study the document because it has to plan its own media rights landscape,” said those tracking developments to Times of India.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have no doubts about retaining captain MS Dhoni if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allows retentions for all eight teams ahead of the mega player auction. All eight teams are set for a major revamp of their respective squads as BCCI is set to conduct a mega auction ahead of IPL 2022.

Two new teams will be added to the league's roster from the 2022 season and the board will look to give a fair chance to all teams to make their squads from scratch once again. Dhoni 'will be the first name' on the retention list if the franchises are allowed to retain players ahead of the mega auction.

As per a CSK source, Dhoni's future with the Yellow Army will depend on the retentions rules framed by BCCI ahead of the new season. The source stated that Dhoni will be the first man to be retained by the team.

"MS will be the first man to be retained, there is no doubt about it. But first of all we need to know the retention rules, which we are not aware of as of now. If we can retain (players), Dhoni will be first to save," a CSK source told Sports Tak.

Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to a magnificent triumph in IPL 2021 as the Men in Yellow went on to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final on Friday (October 15) to lift their fourth title. Dhoni was instrumental in his side's success as a captain and proved why he is regarded as one of the greatest leaders of all time.

Dhoni has been leading CSK since the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008 and has captained the side in all 12 seasons that they have been part of the tournament. He has led CSK to four titles and a staggering nine finals. He remains one of the most successful captains in IPL history.

However, Dhoni is now in the final lap of what has been a glorious career and clearly struggled with the bat during IPL 2021. He has already retired from international cricket and there remain doubts over his future in the IPL. Nonetheless, CSK are reportedly certain of retaining their icon and captain if the rules allow.

"Which team or franchise would not want to retain a man like Dhoni. Two new teams will be added, so it would be great to see the competition. There are many things which we will have to see but as of now, I can only say that we will go for Dhoni. The rest we will see and go by rules set by the BCCI," said the source.

MS Dhoni to be the 1st player to be kept by CSK if retentions are allowed ahead of IPL mega auction - Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be looking to bring the Indian Premier League (IPL) back to India after hosting the second leg of the 14th edition successfully in UAE this year. Due to COVID-19, the last couple of editions of the IPL have been played outside the country. While the complete tournament from start to end was hosted in the UAE last year, IPL 2021 kicked off in India earlier this year before it had to be shifted to the UAE due to COVID-19.

It was the first edition of IPL which was played across two legs in two different countries. India was hit by the second wave of COVID-19 while the tournament's first leg was underway in the country. Players from several teams contracted the infection which led to the postponement of the tournament before it was moved to the UAE where the second leg was concluded on October 15 with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) becoming the champions after beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was recently asked during the launch of the T20 World Cup campaign for My11Circle whether the IPL will return to India next year. The BCCI chief said he was hopeful of the board staging the tournament in front of packed stadiums in India in 2022 as the COVID-19 situation in the country is under control at present.

"I hope so, because it's India's tournament. As much as you see the superb atmosphere in Dubai, it's different in India. It's absolutely madness in India with the stands full. We'd love to have it back in India. I'm sure in the next seven-eight months, the COVID-19 situation will be very different, and we can host it in India with packed stands and the supporters pouring," said Ganguly, who was in Dubai to attend the IPL 2021 final between CSK and KKR on Friday.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs in the final of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai to lift the elusive trophy. CSK claimed their fourth IPL title as they completed a remarkable turnaround. The Men in Yellow had missed out on a spot in the playoffs last year but made a stunning comeback to be crowned champions this season.

CSK skipper MS Dhoni was asked about his future with the franchise after leading them to their 4th title. The 40-year-old has already retired from international cricket and is in the final lap of what has been a glorious career. He currently plies his trade only in the IPL and came up with a cheeky response when prompted about his future on Friday.

Dhoni's future remains in doubt with age not on his side and a mega auction set to take place ahead of IPL 2022 with the addition of two new teams to the IPL roster. Dhoni said it was not about him at CSK and that the franchise will look to build a strong core that can contribute for the next ten years.

"Again I've said it before, it depends on BCCI," Dhoni said when asked about his future in the IPL. He was then cut off by commentator Harsha Bhogle who said - "No MS, it's between you and CSK." The CSK skipper then went on to state that the franchise will focus on building a good core.

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) completed an incredible turnaround in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 as they went on to lift their 4th title after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final on Friday. CSK had finished a lowly seventh and missed out on a spot in the playoffs last season but bounced back strongly to win the trophy this year.

One of the most successful teams in the history of IPL, CSK proved why they are one of the best sides to have graced the league with a stupendous performance throughout the season. Despite getting off to a good start with their openers Shubman Gill (51) and Venkatesh Iyer (50) posting a 91-run stand for the opening wicket, KKR crumbled under pressure and lost wickets in quick intervals to give away the game. Their middle-order failed to deliver as CSK bowlers ran riot to ensure a comprehensive win for Dhoni's Yellow Army.

CSK remain the second most successful side in IPL history in terms of trophies with four titles to their name while Mumbai Indians sit at the top with five trophies. Here is a look at the winners of the Indian Premier League over the years since the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the coveted Indian Premier League trophy for the fourth time after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs in the final clash of the 14th edition of IPL at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday (October 15). After posting a formidable total of 192/3, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur impressed with their bowling skills to restrict KKR at 165/9. "We shuffled a few players, we used them in different ways," Dhoni said of their turnaround after collecting the trophy. "It was important to take responsibility and we had match-winners coming game after game and performing. People who were in form, they made sure they were scoring throughout the tournament, and everybody else was chipping in," he added. He continued his fine form as he struck seven fours and three sixes during his knock after CSK were invited to bat. He first put up 61 runs with his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad (32) and that was followed by a 63-run stand with Robin Uthappa (31 off 15 balls) for the second wicket. Gaikwad claimed the orange cap as the tournament's leading scorer. Robin Uthappa (31) and Moeen Ali (37 not out) made useful contributions. Moeen Ali then made a late flourish with a stroke-filled 37 not out off 20 balls, laced with two fours and three sixes as he stitched a 68-run stand with du Plessis. CSK added 112 runs in the back end of their innings after they were 80 for one at the halfway mark. Faf du Plessis, Shardul Thakur help MS Dhoni's CSK beat KKR by 27 runs in IPL 2021 final to lift 4th trophy

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 edition is the first-ever season to be played in two halves. After the Indian leg was interrupted and abandoned abruptly during early May, due to the second wave of Covid-19 crisis, the second and final leg finally commenced after over four months.

Thus, the current edition has been different, dealing with several challenges. Finally, it is now set to bid goodbye with the season-finale to take place on Friday (October 15) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

After 59 enthralling contests, the stage is set for the blockbuster finale where CSK will lock horns with KKR. So far, both sides have had impressive yet contrasting fortunes. While the MS Dhoni-led Yellow Army started off with a loss in their season-opener, they ended the first leg as the second-best side. In the UAE leg, they earned back-to-back wins before a three-match losing streak -- ahead of the playoffs -- caused some concerns in their camp.

Nonetheless, CSK beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by three wickets in Qualifier 1 as they showed their experience when it mattered the most. KKR, on the other hand, had a torrid time in the India leg; ending with two wins from seven games. However, they have smartly adapted to surfaces and displayed their aggressive approach to reach the final. Entering the finale with four successive wins, although three of them coming at Sharjah, the two-time winners will give CSK a tough run.

Match prediction for CSK vs KKR finale: It is really tough to pick a winner for the summit clash. CSK have a 3-match winning streak over KKR. KKR, meanwhile, have never lost an IPL finale (winning in 2012 and 2014). In the last five games, KKR have won four fixtures. CSK, on the other hand, have lost three.

The Yellow Army will still have a slight edge into the final; having played their last three games at the same venue. KKR mastered the conditions in Sharjah but will now have to adapt at a different venue, for one final time. Nonetheless, their last game at Dubai led them to a 6-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). CSK-KKR's last tie was also held at Dubai, where Dhoni-led franchise won the game by two wickets in the final over.

Talking about the playing XIs, KKR might reintroduce Andre Russell, who likes playing vs CSK. Meanwhile, Dhoni & Co. are expected to remain unchanged. In the bowling department, KKR have a slight edge due to their spinners but CSK are well ahead of them in batting. There isn't much to separate between both sides. CSK have remained at their dominant best whereas KKR have had a massive turnaround -- which makes them really dangerous -- but seems like stars are aligned to take an experienced CSK to their fourth title.

CSK vs KKR, IPL 2021 final prediction: Who will win Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders clash?

Virat Kohli, the skipper of the Indian cricket team, posted a hilarious image that perfectly describes what it feels to be "playing in bubbles". The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic impacted sports globally with almost all the leagues were suspended.

However, slowly and gradually, leagues around the world are resumed with proper safety measures. Among other sports, cricket boards are trying their best to conduct the matches. However, they have resorted to playing with bio-bubbles, which limits the players' contacts to their team hotel and the ground.

Some cricketers in the recent past have spoken about bio-bubble fatigue and the impact of playing under strict rules. Looks like Kohli is another one on the list. In the photograph that looked to be from a set, Virat can be seen with a rope around him while sitting on a chair.

"This is what playing in bubbles feels like," Virat wrote in his Instagram post along with the picture.

Reacting to his picture, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen said "Players/broadcasters are DONE with them (bio-bubbles) ! Great pic, dude!."

Although in a hilarious manner, Kohli is the latest cricketer to speak up about the struggles players go through when constantly being in bio-bubbles.
