You have to listen carefully when Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks, and I am not talking about his much-publicised 8 PM or 9 PM addresses to the nation or to his weekly Mann Ki Baat radio talk in which he speaks in softer tones that smack of classroom lectures. In an atmosphere of geopolitical stress, it is best to have an ear to the ground on what he tells his officials in private meetings. It is clear that behind all the bluster and deserved cheerleading of the Army for Operation Sindoor that bludgeoned Pakistan’s air bases and terror camps, there is a quiet stock-taking that shows that this was not a conventional war victory moment but one that requires a steady cost-benefit analysis, to borrow a memorable phrase from project management. Lt Gen Sumer Ivan D'Cunha, Director General of Army Air Defence, on Monday highlighted the country's military capabilities and stated that India possesses the arsenal capability of striking targets across the full depth of Pakistan in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor. In an interview with ANI, Lt Gen D'Cunha said, "The whole of Pakistan is within range." He stated that even if they relocate the Pakistan Army's General Headquarters (GHQ) from Rawalpindi to regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), they will have to "find a deep hole." India's offensive strikes during Operation Sindoor targeted key Pakistani airbases with precision, utilising loitering munitions to destroy high-value targets. Also read: 'Massive air assault with drones, long-range missiles': How Indian Army thwarted Pakistan’s plan to hit Golden Temple after Operation Sindoor Lt Gen D'Cunha said, "I just like to say that India has an adequate arsenal of weapons to take on Pakistan right across its depth. So, I think that the very fact that we have been able to protect our motherland from this onslaught, which was aimed at causing a lot of problems in population centers and in our cantonments, the very fact that we have given this reassurance to our people, not only to our civil population... a lot of our own jawans, officers, wives were staying in cantonments. And they were also equally concerned about these drone attacks. And the very fact that we ensured that this did not manifest in any casualties, I am sure it not only made the soldier feel proud, it made the families feel proud. And finally, the population of India feel proud. I think that's the takeaway." Operation Sindoor: Who is Shehzad Wahab? Nabbed for spying for Pakistan

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has again targeted External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, accusing the government of informing Pakistan at the start of Operation Sindoor. Gandhi said this act was not merely a mistake, but a “crime”.Reposting a video clip of Dr Jaishankar speaking to reporters, Gandhi said, “Informing Pakistan at the start of our attack was a crime. EAM has publicly admitted that GOI did it. Who authorised it? How many aircraft did our airforce lose as a result?”Also read: Operation Sindoor: Pakistani spy network busted in Haryana's NuhThe Congress MP did not stop there.
EAM Jaishankar’s silence isn’t just telling — it’s damning. So I’ll ask again: How many Indian aircraft did we lose because Pakistan knew? This wasn’t a lapse.
What the video clip shows
The video Gandhi shared showed Dr Jaishankar saying, “At the start of the operation, we have sent a message to Pakistan, saying we are striking at infrastructure and we are not striking at the military, so the military has an option of standing out and not interfering in this process. They chose not to take good advice.”Gandhi has used this statement to allege that the government compromised India's security by warning the enemy in advance. Also read: What will Indian EAM Jaishankar discuss on his 6-day visit to Netherlands, Denmark & Germany?
Congress questions Jaishankar's intent
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera also criticised Jaishankar in a press conference. He claimed the minister's act was not diplomacy but something more serious. “This is not diplomacy, this is espionage. Everyone heard what the External Affairs Minister said. A cover-up is being done,” he alleged.Khera went further to question whether this “warning” allowed terrorists like Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed to flee their hideouts. “This statement suggests that the terrorists must have fled their bases. Prime Minister Modi and the External Affairs Minister must answer why this was done,” he said. Also read: Operation Sindoor: Indian Army displays Pakistani missile debris. Watch
Government pushes back, says facts are being twisted
The Ministry of External Affairs responded firmly, saying Jaishankar’s words were being taken out of context. A government statement clarified, “EAM had stated that we had warned Pakistan at the start, which is clearly the early phase after Op Sindoor's commencement. This is being falsely represented as being before the commencement.”Backing this version, the Defence Ministry referred to a statement made by Lt General Rajiv Ghai, Director General of Military Operations. Ghai had said, “Even though we did attempt to reach out and communicate our compulsions to strike at the heart of terror to my counterpart in the immediate wake of Operation Sindoor, the request was brusquely turned down with an intimation that a severe response was inevitable and in the offing. We were, of course, prepared.”
PIB flags Gandhi’s claim as misleading
The government’s fact-checking arm, PIB FactCheck, said that the claims being made about Jaishankar’s remarks were false. “The social media post falsely implies from External Affairs Minister @DrSJaishankar's statement that India informed Pakistan before the start of Operation Sindoor. EAM is being misquoted and he has not made this statement,” it said, warning people to stay alert and not fall for misleading content.

'May be some link': Man alerted NIA about Jyoti Malhotra a year before her arrest over 'spying' for Pakistan | Operation Sindoor

Jyoti Malhotra, the Hisar-based YouTuber arrested on charges of espionage, was being groomed by Pakistani intelligence operatives, said Hisar superintendent of police (SP) Shashank Kumar Sawan on Sunday (May 18).As per the superintendent of police, Malhotra had visited Pakistan several times, including once before the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. She had also travelled to China.Sawan also revealed that Pakistan was using a new form of warfare — information warfare — where “influencers are used to manipulate public sentiment, question national policies, or promote divisive ideologies.”
Pakistan operatives actively recruiting social media influencers: Hisar SP
Addressing a press conference, Shashank Kumar Sawan, the Hisar superintendent of police, revealed that the Haryana police have been informed by central agencies that PIOs were actively recruiting Indian social media influencers to promote soft narratives."She is being interrogated by the Haryana Police, in coordination with central agencies. We are analysing her financial transactions and travel history to determine the sources of her income," said SP Sawan."Her known income sources do not justify her foreign travel. We suspect external funding. On the surface, she was just a travel blogger," he added.
Jyoti Malhotra's contact with Pakistani Information Officers 'alarming'
SP Sawan also confirmed that Jyoti Malhotra, who has been remanded to police custody for five says, was in direct contact with PIOs. These PIOs, he said, included individuals declared persona non grata by India."She had visited Pakistan multiple times and China once. She was in contact with the PIOs. We have taken her on a 5-day police remand. We are analysing her financial details. During the conflict (Indo-Pak), she was in touch with the PIOs... Her travel details are defying her total income..." Jyoti Malhotra, the Hisar-based YouTuber arrested on charges of espionage, was being groomed by Pakistani intelligence operatives, said Hisar superintendent of police (SP) Shashank Kumar Sawan on Sunday (May 18). As per the superintendent of police, Malhotra had visited Pakistan several times, including once before the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. She had also travelled to China. "She is being interrogated by the Haryana Police, in coordination with central agencies. We are analysing her financial transactions and travel history to determine the sources of her income," said SP Sawan. "Her known income sources do not justify her foreign travel. We suspect external funding. On the surface, she was just a travel blogger," he added. Jyoti Malhotra's contact with Pakistani Information Officers 'alarming' SP Sawan also confirmed that Jyoti Malhotra, who has been remanded to police custody for five says, was in direct contact with PIOs. These PIOs, he said, included individuals declared persona non grata by India. "She had visited Pakistan multiple times and China once. She was in contact with the PIOs. We have taken her on a 5-day police remand. We are analysing her financial details. During the conflict (Indo-Pak), she was in touch with the PIOs... Her travel details are defying her total income..." Amid growing tensions with Pakistan following the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed several Indian states to begin emergency preparedness drills, according to official sources.
These mock drills are meant to strengthen civil defence capabilities and ensure quick responses in case of any hostile action and will be conducted on Wednesday (May 07). As per the MHA's plan, key steps will include:

Operationalisation of Air Raid Warning Sirens

Training of civilians, students, etc, on the civil defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a hostile attack.

Provision of crash blackout measures

Provision for early camouflaging of vital plants/installations

Updation of evacuation plan & its rehearsal

This comes in light of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians and has been linked to Pakistan-backed terrorist groups.
