<p>England's Stuart Broad, the batsman who came in after Bairstow's exit, immediately let his frustrations show as the stump microphone caught him telling Carey: "That's all you'll ever be remembered for that."</p>

<p>Broad also shouted at Australia captain Pat Cummins, ranting: "That's the worst thing I've ever seen in cricket".</p>

<p>The England pace bowler kept up his barrage as he exchanged angry words with Australian fielders and mockingly tapped his bat in his crease after each delivery to ensure he didn't depart the same way as Bairstow.</p>

<p>A bitter row about the 'spirit of cricket' was underway, with furious fans chanting "cheats" and England's players clearly angry Australia did not withdraw their appeal on grounds of fair play.</p>

<h2><strong>Verbally abused</strong></h2>

<p>Members in the Lord's Pavilion, the most prestigious stand in the stadium, confronted the Australia team as they walked through the historic Long Room to get to their dressing room at lunch.</p>

<p>Australia batsmen David Warner and Usman Khawaja were seen stopping to speak to members who were booing before stewards stepped in to usher the players away.</p>

<p>"Australian management has requested the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) investigate several incidents involving spectators in the members area during lunch on day five of the Lord's Test," a Cricket Australia spokesman said.</p>

<p>"It is alleged players and staff from the Australian team were verbally abused, with some being physically contacted, as they made their way to lunch through the members area."</p>

<p>Apologising for the incident, the MCC said: "After this morning's play, emotions were running high, and words were unfortunately exchanged with some of the Australian team, by a small number of Members.</p>

<p>"We have unreservedly apologised to the Australian Team and will deal with any Member who has not maintained the standard we expect through our disciplinary processes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It was not necessary to eject anyone from the ground and I am pleased to say that there was no repeat of this as the players resumed the field for this afternoon's session."</p>

<p>Relations between the two sides were already fraught with the Australians left fuming on Saturday when Mitchell Starc thought he had caught opener Ben Duckett.</p>

<p>Starc held a low catch only to ground the ball while still sliding on the turf.</p>

<p>Under cricket's laws, a catch is only completed when the fielder has "complete control over the ball and his/her own movement" and cannot touch the ground before then if a dismissal is to be completed.</p>

<p>The on-field umpires referred the decision to Erasmus, with the TV official ruling in Duckett's favour.</p>

<p>The Australians may rue the manner of Bairstow's dismissal as it provoked England captain Ben Stokes.</p>

<p>He went on the rampage, moving to 150 in the second session, as England bid for a Lord's record run chase of 371 to win.</p>

Though Harmison justified England’s gameplay so far, saying the hosts had just gone through a few bad days in Tests for one year and should not be judged so quickly on that.</p>

<p>“I don’t think it was justified,” Harmison said interview with talkSPORT. “I think this team has had one or two bad days in 12-13 months. I think some of the stuff that they were having a go at them (for), too matey, I think there’s a time and a place.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Although he didn’t show any pain while batting, Warner, during the presser, admitted the soreness in his hand, especially in his palm, was there and that he will examine it after this Test. He also revealed he had his hand covered in an ice bucket throughout the afternoon following his dismissal.</p>

<p>"It's copped a battering the last two games, and in the nets, so it's a little bit sore at the moment, a bit of a bruise but I'll just see how we go after the game, and I think we'll examine it then," Warner said. "At the moment it's quite tender.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Having already announced his retirement plans ahead of the away Ashes, Warner said the past six to eight months have been better in terms of him being in good form and the right space. Besides using his hands well, which he does quite often, Warner said feels his feet movement helped the cause too.</p>

<p>Although he hasn’t scored a big total in this format lately, with him feeling confident about his game, Warner is sure a game-changing knock is just around the corner.</p>

<p>"I've felt in total control the last six to eight months with where my game is. I'm moving into the ball, my feet are moving, not just playing with my hands," he said.</p>

<p>"I felt like I was onto something special in the World Test Championship final. And then the last game, the same thing. I feel like everything I'm putting in the nets is actually coming out there in the middle.</p>

<p>"I'm excited by it, and I think if I can keep getting myself in and keep that momentum going with my feet, a big one could be around the corner," Warner concluded.</p>

'I worry about England, they need to be...': Vaughan warns Ben Stokes & Co. after Day 1 of Lord's Test

<p>It requires some skill to dismiss the ranked number-one Test batter in the world on a first-ball duck, and England’s Stuart Broad deserves some credit for this. Not only in the first innings of the Edgbaston Test but on both occasions, the England veteran got rid of Marnus Labuschagne, in a similar fashion, caught behind. Now, ahead of the start of the second Test that begins on Wednesday at Lord’s in London, Marnus is working on the way to not getting out chasing the fifth-stump line.</p>

<p>Labuschagne admitted the low bounce on that lifeless Edgbaston pitch pushed him to play that line, which resulted in his dismissal in both innings.&nbsp;The right-handed batter said those the manner in which he got out was very uncharacteristic, and he was frustrated with himself because of that.</p>

<p>"When you get out first ball, you just throw it in the bag. Potentially, I thought that they were going to come straight, and then he got a nice ball that swung in the right area. With a lack of bounce at Edgbaston, it sucks you into thinking you can hit the ball a bit more, and I just made a few poor decisions [against balls] that were really wide. They'd be eighth or ninth stump, some of those deliveries.</p>

<p>"They were very uncharacteristic dismissals to how I've usually played, that's why I was pretty frustrated with myself to get out that way and asked myself the question, 'Why did I play at those deliveries?" - Marnus said.</p>

<p>Speaking of how he would avoid getting into the same position again in the series, Marnus said he would work on some technicalities; and since it’s a rarity for him to get out like this, he believes not sleeping over it would help the cause.</p>

<p>"I've come up with my summation of what that is. Now it's if there's anything I can do tactically or technically to make sure it doesn't happen again. It's a rarity that I'd play at those balls, so it's not something I'm going to overthink, but I hold myself to a much higher standard than those dismissals," the star Aussie batter added.</p>

<p>Despite not sharing the best rapport on and off the field, Marnus praised Broad, admitting the way the English seamer did his homework was commendable. <p>"First ball, most of the time you just play and miss at that then you go 'okay', you can make the adjustments out there. I said this about [R] Ashwin, guys who take the time to do the homework, understand the game, and work out how they're going to get certain guys out, I've got so much respect for them so if they're putting the time and effort in and it pays off, that's a credit to them," Broad added.</p>

While many believed they will tweak their methods during the Ashes battle versus Australia, Stokes &amp; Co. didn't and have given enough signals that they will continue to play attackingly despite a close defeat in the series opener. Ahead of the second Test, which starts on June 28 at Lord's, Australia's No. 3 Marnus Labuschagne claimed that Joe Root's Bazball approach is helping his team stay in the contest.</p>

<p>Root is one of England's most reliable batters. Over the years, he has remained very consistent in Tests resorting to his&nbsp;conventional style of batting. Ever since England adopted the Bazball style of play, the former England captain Root has not bogged down from going for the reverse sweep and unorthodox strokes from time to time, also during his blazing 118* in the first Test in Edgbaston, Birmingham. However, Labuschagne believes Root playing aggressively helps Australia.</p>

<h2><strong>'They're playing aggressively and Root is doing it with a different method which can benefit us'</strong></h2>

<p>“From my perspective, him playing that method and those shots are keeping us in the game,” said Labuschagne. As quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald, Labuschagne pointed out Root's dismissal in the second Test (stumped out for 46) and said, "I use that second innings as an example. He probably had an opportunity to shut us out and take the game away from us completely. But the method and the way he was playing kept us in the game and, evidently, he played unbelievable innings, but he ended up getting 40 [46] and if he turns that 40 into 80-plus, we’re chasing 300 and that’s going to be a pretty big effort."</p>

Since his exit, Andrew McDonald has taken over and by Khawaja's recent admission, it seems the Australian players are now in a much better space in the dressing room.</p>

Opting to bat first, Ben Stokes-led England declared at 393-8, with Joe Root unbeaten on 118, before Khawaja's sublime 141 took the Aussies to 386 all-out. With a seven-run lead, England were dismissed for 273 as they set a challenging 282-run target. Khawaja got dismissed for 65 in the final session as Australia were reduced to 209 for 7 before an unbroken 55-run ninth-wicket stand skipper Cummins (44 not out) and Nathan Lyon (16 not out) took the Aussies home. Now, the 36-year-old dwelled on Australia's epic win and feels players 'being treated like adults after a long time' in the team environment has helped make a difference. 'If you are letting the team down in any way, that's on you' "It's hard to quantify it (in the wins), but I think everything around that is being done with the team, with Pat and Andrew McDonald in terms of just cutting out the fluff. Cutting out the box-ticking stuff. Really stripping down the game, saying what's important, what do we think is important?" Khawaja told AAP. "Even warm-ups every morning now are optional, do whatever you need to. That kind of stuff empowers players. It's empowered us. We take onus on ourselves. At the end of the day, you are responsible for your own performance because that in itself impacts the team. If you are letting the team down in any way, that's on you," the Aussie opener opined. Khawaja's comments come a year after Australia's former head coach Justin Langer's resignation. While Australia enjoyed good success under Langer, he didn't have a smooth ride with the national team, with many raising concerns over his strict approach. In a documentary, Khawaja stated that players were afraid of Langer during Ashes 2019. Since his exit, Andrew McDonald has taken over and by Khawaja's recent admission, it seems the Australian players are now in a much better space in the dressing room. Ashes 2023 edition's second Test kicks off on June 28 at Lord's. Khawaja-starrer Australia will look to go 2-0 up versus England and get closer to retaining the urn.
