England's James Anderson is going nowhere. The veteran seamer, aged 40, playing his fourth Test in this Ashes, has picked just five wickets and yet doesn't look like hanging his boots anytime soon. Following the Manchester-drawn Test that saw rain washing out five out of six sessions on the final two days, several experts and pundits pointed out Anderson's 'lack of zip' as one of the reasons why England failed to dismiss Australia early in the second innings, and thus couldn't go for the win.

Having picked just four wickets at over 76 in the lead-up to the fifth and final Ashes Test, Anderson was under pressure to perform after getting backed by Captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum.

When asked about his retirement plans, Anderson played it down in a fraction of a second, urging he still has some fuel left in him and that he also gets to decide on when to part ways with this game.

"In terms of retirement, I have no interest in going anywhere anytime soon," Anderson told Sky Sports.&nbsp;

"If Stokesy [captain Ben Stokes] and Baz [Test coach Brendon McCullum] say, 'you have not got the wickets we would like', I am absolutely fine with that, but I feel like I have a lot more to give.

"I have tried not to listen to the comments. For me, that question has been there for the last six years, even longer. As soon as you get into your 30s as a bowler, it's, 'how long has he got left?', Anderson added.

<h2>'I get to decide when to leave</h2>

Anderson has been around for over 20 years now. After all that he did for England and achieved as a professional cricketer, the veteran seamer said he deserves to decide when to retire.&nbsp;

"I don't feel like I'm bowling badly or am losing pace or that I am on the way out. I still feel I can offer a lot to this team.

"I'd like to [decide when I go]," Anderson added.

Shedding some light on his performance in the ongoing Ashes, Anderson said, "We all know as professional cricketers that you go through lean patches. You just pray it is not in the most high-profile series you can play in!

"I try to look at it objectively. Yes, I have not got the wickets, but I am still trying to do the job for the team and help the guy out at the other end."

On day two, he picked one wicket of Mitchell Marsh and bowled economically with figures of 67 for one in 26 overs.

"I was pleased with the way I bowled all day. I felt in good rhythm and that I was getting the ball to carry through - which is unusual!" he added.

Starc said the only thing he cares about now is how he can help Australia beat England in the final Test at the Oval and clinch a historic series win on their soil for the first time since 2001.

Having dealt with injuries throughout his illustrious career, Starc said such discomforts are part and parcel of the game and will go away eventually. Though he missed the first Test in Edgbaston, with Australia picking fit-again Josh Hazlewood instead, Starc performed in all three Tests with both new and old ball.

"I've played for over ten years and been through a few niggles and injuries over the time. There's been times when I've left the team a man down or other people have. We all push through niggles and whatnot. No difference this week, it's just a little bit of discomfort, and away we go," Starc added.

Despite David Warner announcing his retirement plan earlier, former Australia legend Glenn McGrath feels the ongoing fifth and final Ashes Test at the Oval could be his last in this format. For the nth time this series, Warner began well but failed to convert it to a big score, getting out on 24, thus raising pressure on him and questions around his selection.

McGrath, perhaps cricket’s greatest, let alone Australia’s, thinks if Warner doesn’t come up with something magnificent with the bat in the second innings, he might not play Test cricket again.

“There’s a bit of pressure on Dave Warner,” McGrath said on SENQ Breakfast. “He looked ok (in the first innings at the Oval) but then got out again. To be honest, I think, unfortunately, that maybe it’s coming towards the end of his career."

After Australia ended England’s first innings on 283, both Warner and Usman Khawaja had good 30-odd overs to play, and it’s fair to say both did a tremendous job for most of it. Woakes, not Broad, picked Warner’s wicket this time, getting the nick off his bat straight to Crawley at second slip. This kind of dismissal is not new for everyone, as the Aussie veteran keeps getting out in this fashion regularly, especially in England.

<h2>'Warner needs a daddy score in second innings else...'</h2>

McGrath said knowing Warner has expressed his desire to play till next home summer and hang his boots from Tests at his home ground in Sydney (against Pakistan), his performances are not helping him much. The veteran seamer added how Warner is middling the ball – which, to McGrath, looked fine. But the left-hander hasn’t converted those into daddy scores, which eventually put the middle order under some pressure.

“I know he came out the other day and said he wanted to play it to the end of next summer. But I think the pressure is on him; the vultures are circling. Unless he comes out in the second dig and produces a big score, I think he might struggle,” McGrath said.

While questions surrounding the slow death of Test cricket in the wake of the expansion of T20 leagues keep even the top bosses searching for answers, Morgan sees a positive side of it, saying what this format has done in helping cricket reach the masses outside of regular playing nations neither of the ODIs and Tests was able to do so.

"Cricket has never been more popular around the world. Cricket is spreading far and wide. T20 cricket has allowed cricket to grow at a pace that no other format has been able to achieve it. So, we need to sit back and thank T20 cricket and recognise it for taking it everywhere," Morgan said.

The Future Tours Programme (FTP) is looking like there will be more T20 cricket played than bilateral; the game needs to change with that, and that's how it's going to go. You can't fight the exceptional growth and pace at which the game is becoming so popular. I think ODI Cricket is going to become, at some stage, most likely confined to just World Cups," Morgan added.

"Zimbabwe was devastated not to qualify for the World Cup, they were disappointed. Former English captain Michael Vaughan has put his fingers on England’s ‘sentimental selection’ of James Anderson in the fourth Test in Manchester as one of the reasons Australia got away with the draw and retained the Ashes. Vaughan said picking Anderson over Josh Tongue may have cost England the chance to win back the urn for the first time since 2015.

England’s veteran seamer Anderson was rested for the third Test in Leeds following mediocre outings in the first two games. He, however, was brought in for Ollie Robinson for perhaps his final Ashes Test at his home venue at Old Trafford. That move didn’t pay dividends as the right-arm seamer returned with one for 81 in 37 across both innings – that also of Pat Cummins caught at cover.

Speaking on BBC's Ashes Daily podcast, Vaughan said Anderson’s selection doesn’t look right in hindsight, as England could have instead opted for Josh Tongue, who even starred with the ball during the Lord’s game.

"We all agreed that James Anderson deserved to have that sentimental pick because he's a legend of the game, but it may have cost England," Vaughan said.

"Josh Tongue is a young quick who has created impact in that one game that he has played, and I know the Australians don't like facing him.

"Jimmy, in the three Test matches that he's played in this series, has just had no impact at all. I don't remember him getting a key wicket at any stage, and that's very unlike Jimmy Anderson,” Vaughan added.

<h2>Anderson lacked ‘that zip’</h2>

Vaughan opined unlike in the past, Anderson missed ‘the zip’ that used to traumatise batters from across the world in these conditions. The ex-batter added Chris Woakes, who got his first Ashes game in the third Test, bowled better with the Dukes Ball – something Anderson failed to replicate.

"Chris Woakes has almost showed us what can be done with the Dukes ball when you've got that zip because he's been going over the top with the seam, and it's just been doing enough," Vaughan said.

"It's been wobble seam and a bit more action off the surface at a similar pace. It's not like Chris has been bowling three or four mph quicker than Jimmy. For whatever reason, Jimmy's not been getting that kiss off the surface that we've seen for many, many years," Vaughan added.

Meanwhile, in three matches, Anderson picked just four wickets at over 76, and now for the final Test at the Kia Oval that starts on July 27, the veteran bowler will fight for a place in XI with Robinson.
