The downpour, which began around 11 pm on Friday, continued into Saturday morning, affecting both vehicular movement and daily activities across the city.</p><p>Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and structurally unsafe areas to remain vigilant as more heavy rain is forecast.</p><p> </p><p>In the 24 hours till 8.30 am on Saturday, Delhi’s primary weather station at Safdarjung recorded 78.7 mm of rainfall, Pragati Maidan 100 mm, Lodhi Road 80 mm, Pusa 69 mm, and Palam 31.8 mm, according to data shared by the weather department.</p><p>The temperature was recorded at 23.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning, 3.2 notches below the average.</p><p> </p><p>“Local police responded to the collapse by 9.20-9.22 am and made arrangements for earthmover machines to remove the debris and rescue people. Eight people were pulled out from the debris and rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre and the Safdarjung Trauma Centre. Of the eight, four were men, two women, and two children,” said DCP (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari.</p>

<p>The air quality in Delhi slipped into the 'very poor’ category after recording 302 on the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 4 pm on December 8. The city recorded an improved AQI in the ‘moderate’ category at the beginning of December. The air quality in the region is expected to improve after the rainfall.</p>

<p>“Western disturbance persists over central Pakistan and its surrounding areas... Light to moderate rain is expected in the Himalayas today and tomorrow. Light rain is expected in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi,” Naresh Kumar, a scientist at IMD, told the news agency ANI.</p>

<p>The Met department has predicted a significant dip in the temperatures in Delhi from December 10, with the mercury touching as low as 3 degrees Celcius.</p>

<p>Cold wave conditions are likely to develop in the northern belt, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh, and remain till December 14. IMD has also predicted snowfall in the northern hills as a result of the western disturbance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The cold wave will first hit Rajasthan, followed by Punjab and Haryana,” Naresh Kumar told ANI.</p>

<p>A dense fog warning has also been issued across northern India on December 9 and 10, which may cause reduced visibility and disrupt transportation.</p>

<p>The authorities have issued an alert for the villages in Noida along the banks of the Yamuna River as the water levels have risen due to heavy rains. Last year, villages in Delhi and Noida witnessed flooding during the rainy season which caused inconvenience for the residents.</p>

<p>According to IMD officials, light to moderate rain was recorded in many parts of the national capital on Monday (Jul 22). 31.4 mm of rainfall was recorded at the Safdarjung Observatory between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm.</p>

Monsoon Update: IMD forecasts rainy weekend for Delhi-NCR; light showers expected on Friday

<p>The Indian financial capital, Mumbai,&nbsp;woke up to water-logged streets after heavy rains lashed in the early hours of Thursday&nbsp;(Jul&nbsp;18).&nbsp;Over the last two days, the city witnessed&nbsp;light showers, however,&nbsp;this morning the rains&nbsp;intensified.</p>

<p>India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane, but after the financial capital recorded a rainfall of 100 mm, IMD updated the alert to orange.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The data shared by the weather department for Wednesday and Thursday morning records 101 mm of rain at the Colaba Coastal Observatory and 50 mm of rainfall at the Santacruz station.</p>

All operations have been temporarily shifted to Terminal 2 and Terminal 3.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the bodies of three labourers were pulled out on Saturday morning from the rubble of a wall that collapsed at a construction site in the Vasant Vihar area amid heavy rain the day before, officials said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In Delhi, the monsoon arrived Friday morning and the national capital recorded 228.1 mm of rainfall on day one, the highest since 1936 for the month of June.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The India Metrological Department (IMD) Saturday issued an orange alert for Delhi, predicting heavy rainfall for the next two days.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the IMD, 8.9 mm rainfall was recorded between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm at the Safdarjung observatory, the city's primary weather station, and 12.6 mm at the Lodhi Road observatory.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Highest-ever temperature recorded in India?</strong></h2>

<p>The (IMD) had earlier reported “severe heat-wave conditions,” in the Indian capital after which it recorded an all-time high temperature in the Delhi suburb of Mungeshpur at around 2:30 pm (local time).&nbsp;</p>

<p>However,&nbsp;late Wednesday, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju took to X and said that the reading is "not official yet," adding that the record-breaking temperature in Delhi is "very unlikely."</p>

<p>"Our senior officials in IMD have been asked to verify the news report. The official position will be stated soon," said the Union Minister.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The maximum temperature over Delhi NCR varied from 45.2° to 49.1°C in different parts of city, Mungeshpur reported 52.9°C as an outlier compared to other stations," said the IMD in a statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It added, "It could be due to error in the sensor or the local factor. IMD is examining the data and sensors."</p>

<p>If confirmed, the temperature in Delhi on Wednesday afternoon shattered the previously recorded set on May 19, 2016, when the Indian city of Phalodi, Rajasthan reached a sweltering 51 degrees Celsius.</p>

<p>Speaking about the record-breaking temperature, IMD regional head Kuldeep Srivastava said the city’s outskirts are the first areas to be hit by hot winds from Rajasthan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Parts of Delhi are particularly susceptible to the early arrival of these hot winds, worsening the already severe weather. Areas like Mungeshpur, Narela and Najafgarh are the first to experience the full force of these hot winds,” he told news agency PTI.</p>

<p>The temperature was more than nine degrees higher than expected, on the second day of record-breaking heat in the Indian capital.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The IMD has issued a red alert health notice for the city, with an estimated population of around 35 million people, warning of a “very high likelihood of developing heat illness and heat stroke in all ages,” with “extreme care needed for vulnerable people”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Delhi woke up to a thick blanket of fog on Wednesday with very poor visibility. Everyday travel operations were affected due to dense fog, with more than 50 flights delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on Jan 31.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per reports, the national capital recorded its coldest January in 21 years in terms of day temperatures. The mean maximum temperature in January at Safdarjung was 17.9 degrees Celsius. It was the same as in 2015 and the lowest since 2003.</p>

<p>The Met department has also issued a yellow alert in the national capital till February 2 in the wake of persistent dense fog over the next few days. On Wednesday afternoon, parts of Delhi also received light rainfall after a foggy morning, which led to drop&nbsp;in the temperatures further.</p>

<p>The IMD has also predicted light rain accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at most places over Delhi on Wednesday and light rainfall/drizzle on 1st and 3rd February.</p>

<p>As per the Regional Meteorological Centre in New Delhi as well, the city will receive light to very light rain (drizzle) on Thursday (Feb 1) with minimum temperature dropping to 8 degrees Celsius.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The department also predicted dense fog with a partly cloudy sky on Friday (Feb 2) with a minimum temperature as low as 6 degrees Celsius. The heavy fog situation in the city is not expected to get better before February 3.</p>

<p>There is also a prediction for very light rain on Saturday (Feb 3) towards the evening or night, with a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius.</p>

Everyday travel operations were affected due to dense fog, with more than 50 flights delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on Jan 31. As per reports, the national capital recorded its coldest January in 21 years in terms of day temperatures. The mean maximum temperature in January at Safdarjung was 17.9 degrees Celsius. It was the same as in 2015 and the lowest since 2003. On Wednesday afternoon, parts of Delhi also received light rainfall after a foggy morning, which led to drop in the temperatures further. The IMD has also predicted light rain accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at most places over Delhi on Wednesday and light rainfall/drizzle on 1st and 3rd February. Also Read | India: Madras High Court directs placement of signs restricting non-Hindus in temple premises As per the Regional Meteorological Centre in New Delhi as well, the city will receive light to very light rain (drizzle) on Thursday (Feb 1) with minimum temperature dropping to 8 degrees Celsius. The department also predicted dense fog with a partly cloudy sky on Friday (Feb 2) with a minimum temperature as low as 6 degrees Celsius. The heavy fog situation in the city is not expected to get better before February 3. There is also a prediction for very light rain on Saturday (Feb 3) towards the evening or night, with a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius. The effect of this disturbance will be seen in plain areas like Haryana, Delhi NCR, and Uttar Pradesh," said Dr Kuldeep Srivastava, Head of Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi while speaking to ANI.
