Weather updates: Heavy rain lashes Delhi, Noida on Wednesday morning; 'yellow' alert issued

Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi and Noida on the morning of Wednesday (Jul 24), bringing respite from humidity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a "yellow" alert in the national capital as more rains are forecasted for the next two days. An "orange" alert has been issued in Haryana and Punjab.
According to the weather department, moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in parts of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut and some adjoining areas today. The maximum temperature will likely hover around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 26 degrees Celsius in the national capital.
On Monday, Delhi witnessed a change in the weather conditions with heavy showers. According to the weather officials, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2 degrees Celsius, 1.3 notches higher than normal. The relative humidity was recorded at 68 per cent at 5:30 pm.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board Delhi recorded a "satisfactory" Air Quality Index (AQI) measuring 93 at 6 pm.
The authorities have issued an alert for the villages in Noida along the banks of the Yamuna River as the water levels have risen due to heavy rains. Last year, villages in Delhi and Noida witnessed flooding during the rainy season which caused inconvenience for the residents.

According to IMD officials, light to moderate rain was recorded in many parts of the national capital on Monday (Jul 22). 31.4 mm of rainfall was recorded at the Safdarjung Observatory between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm.

IMD rainfall prediction for other states
The weather department has also predicted heavy to very heavy rain activity in Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa. The rainfall in these regions is possible to be more than 20 cm.
IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, and Baltistan. Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and West Uttar Pradesh are also to witness heavy rains.
Northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura, along with Jharkhand, are also expected to receive heavy rainfall. Kerala and Mahe, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka regions are also likely to receive heavy rainfall.
