<p>All schools in Noida will remain closed on Friday, July 14 as the district administration has issued a notice in the wake of a heavy downpour. The water level of the Yamuna River is peaking in the district and the surrounding areas, due to incessant rains in Delhi-NCR. The order was issued by the Gautam Buddha Nagar administration, and will be applicable to all classes till 12.<br />

<p>In the capital, the water of the Yamuna River has come onto the roads breaking all-time records. Yamuna water level breached the danger marks of 205.33m and reached 208.48m on Thursday morning. The water level is expected to rise even further, and hence, the Delhi NCR administrations have announced closure of schools.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The district administration of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh also announced holidays in all schools till July 15. Amid the heavy rainfall and water logging issues, the District Magistrate has also issued an advisory for the local people.</p>

<h2><strong>Delhi schools, colleges also closed&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Before the Noida school closure, the Delhi government announced the closure of schools, colleges and universities. After a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the decision was announced.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per the orders, except for all government offices providing essential services, staff of all other government offices will work from home till Sunday and employees of private offices are also advised to work from home till Sunday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per the Central Water Commission, the Yamuna water level reached 208.48 metres at 8:00 am on July 14. The Delhi Police has also imposed section 144 of CrPC as a precautionary measure in the flood-prone areas in Delhi.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Traffic advisory in Delhi</strong>&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Delhi Traffic Police urged commuters to avoid the Ring Road stretch between Monastery and ISBT, Kashmere Gate, saying the traffic has been affected due to the overflowing Yamuna River. It also asked commuters to avoid the Ring Road stretch near the IP flyover from Rajghat to Nizamuddin carriageway as overflowing sewer water has affected the traffic.<br />

<p>For the immediate future, moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms is "very likely" to continue in the districts of Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Una, Hamirpur, Mandi and Kullu at most places and very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places. "Light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at a few places in the rest of the districts," an IMD forecast said.</p>

Monsoon rains wreak havoc in northern India: Several dead, tens of millions affected

<p>Delhi-NCR witnessed a downpour of heavy rain overnight on Friday and throughout Saturday, resulting in a drop in temperatures. While the rain brought some respite from the heat, it caused significant inconvenience to commuters.</p>

<p>Several areas in the city were flooded, with water entering shops and houses. Waterlogging and long traffic jams plagued many parts of Delhi, leading to a challenging day for residents, reported PTI.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Waterlogged streets and traffic jams</strong></h2>

<p>Visuals shared on social media depicted numerous areas in Delhi-NCR submerged in water, with shops and houses affected by the flooding.</p>

<p>Connaught Place, a popular area in the city, faced similar challenges as roads in the British-era arcade were heavily waterlogged, causing disruptions to businesses.</p>

<p>Videos from Delhi's Chandni Chowk area showed commuters wading through waist-deep water, while the Tilak Bridge underpass also experienced flooding due to continuous rain.</p>

<p>India's weather department announced that the capital of world's most populous nation is set to experience a much-needed respite from an earth-scorching heat wave that has gripped North India this May. The heatwave is expected to subside as temperature is likely to fall in the coming days due to change in western disturbances, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The Western Disturbance is hitting Northwest India. Its effect has started to be seen in Jammu-Kashmir," the IMD Delhi regional head Kuldeep Srivastava said, while referring to the weather phenomenon that typically results in lowered temperatures.</p>

<p>"On May 24 and 25, it will have its effect in northwest India, Delhi-NCR and north Rajasthan. It will be cloudy and some light rain may also occur," Srivastava said.</p>

<h2><strong>Delhi weather forecast: What does it predict?</strong></h2>

<p>Wednesday, May 24: The IMD weather forecast describes a "generally cloudy sky", along with light rain and thundershowers along with gusty winds towards afternoon and around evening at most places.</p>

<p>Thursday, May 25: The IMD weather forecast, for the second day in a row, describes a "generally cloudy sky" for Delhi and surrounding regions along with light rain and thundershowers.</p>

<p>Friday, May 26: By Friday, Delhi's weather is expected to be affected by a "generally cloudy sky" along with light rain and thundershowers at a few places.</p>

<h2><strong>Delhi weather forecast: How less rain is too less rain?</strong></h2>

<p>The IMD on Tuesday further noted that it may rain 1-2 cm in Delhi. This much rain typically leads to a temperature slash by 4-5 degrees Celsius.</p>

<p>There is also a chance of hailstorm in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, areas of Punjab connected with Himachal Pradesh and some areas of north Rajasthan during the period, the IMD scientist noted.&nbsp;</p>

India: Fresh spells of rain in Delhi-NCR to bring respite from May heatwave for next few days

<p>The national capital and NCR region are expected to continue experiencing cool and wet conditions for the next two-three days, though the rainfall activity might reduce.&nbsp;Delhi, on May 3, witnessed heavy rainfall making it the wettest day of the year 2023 so far with the rain exceeding the usual fall.</p>

<p>On Thursday (May 4), the maximum and minimum temperatures might&nbsp;vary between 17 degrees and 32 degrees Celsius respectively. The air quality also deteriorated from satisfactory to moderate. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the rain activity is likely to reduce, said a TOI report.</p>

<p>The weather department said an AQI between zero and 50 is considered to be "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 as "severe".</p>

<p>IMD weather scientist Kuldeep Srivastav said, "There is a strong western disturbance trough over the western Himalayas and an cyclonic circulation over north-east Rajasthan and adjoining southern Haryana. This weather system covers entire Delhi-NCR, so the region saw consistent rain. The activity will pacify and Thursday may see drizzle or very light rain at one&nbsp;or two places, though the sky will remain unclear. The maximum temperature will rise."</p>

<p>Delhi on Wednesday&nbsp;witnessed bright clear skies for some time after a wet start to the week, although later in the evening there was widespread heavy rainfall throughout the capital with its base station Safdarjung recording 20.99mm in nine hours, the highest this year, surpassing January 30, 2023 record.&nbsp;</p>

<p>So far, the city has recorded 36.9mm of rain in the first three days of May, exceeding the month's usual rainfall.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Vehicles moved bumper to bumper during the morning rush hours, as the downpour led to heavy waterlogging at key road stretches.</p>

<p>The Delhi Traffic Police reported an incident of a tree being uprooted near the high court, which led to traffic snarls. The Raja Garden and Mayapuri flyovers also witnessed heavy waterlogging.</p>

<p>The incessant rains damaged a drain near the Khaira village T-point on the Dhansa road, where metro construction work is going on, the traffic police said.</p>

<p>Overall, Delhi has recorded seven per cent more rains than normal in the monsoon season so far.</p>

<p>Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the IMD's regional forecasting centre, said the city witnessed "continuous rains overnight" and more rainfall is expected during the day.</p>

<p>"The axis of monsoon remains close to Delhi-NCR. Also, there is a cyclonic circulation over southwest Uttar Pradesh. Southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea and easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal also fed moisture," he said.</p>

<p>Light rains will continue over the next two to three days, Srivastava said.</p>

<p>According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of New Delhi recorded at 342 at around 9:09 am as compared to 419 on the previous day.</p>

<p>The AQI around Lodhi Road recorded PM 10 levels at 200 and PM 2.5 levels at 336. PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels around the Delhi University are slightly higher with 259 and 345 respectively.</p>

<p>"Air quality has improved significantly mainly due to sufficient rainfall last night to wash away bigger particles and created space for faster dispersion without a decline in temperature. AQI is back to 'very poor.'&nbsp;It may recover further today. A slight increase in AQI is predicted next three days but is likely to remain in very poor," said SAFAR in a statement.</p>

<p>After battling the thick fog for days, the residents of national capital are taking the sigh of relief following the rain. "The weather is quite pleasant. There is no smog. The air is somewhat breathable," said a jogger.</p>

<p>Taking the cognizance of Delhi's worsening pollution level, the chairman of Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) Bhure Lal has asked the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to discuss the matter of restricting private vehicles during severe and prolonged pollution episode with Graded Response Action Plan task force.</p>

<p>While suggesting corrective measures to CPCB, Lal wrote, "In this situation, the only option is to look at either a complete ban on all private vehicles (without the identification of petrol or diesel), other than CNG and/or restriction on plying by number plate (odd-even). However, please note that the odd-even scheme, as practiced in other cities for similar pollution abatement, is done for extended hours and includes all private vehicles."</p>

<p>Recently, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) also formed a committee, headed by former Delhi High Court judge Justice S P Garg to check the causes of air pollution in Delhi.&nbsp;</p>
