Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Chopra said he expects Lucknow to play Quinton de Kock ahead of Kyle Mayers – who is LSG’s best batter in this&nbsp;this season and also sees Ayush Badoni getting an extended run.

"Lucknow has come after winning cliffhangers. KL Rahul hasn't scored any runs till now, but no one is depending on him at all. I see Quinton de Kock playing in this match and Kyle Mayers sitting out," Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.

"Marcus Stoinis has done well. Nicholas Pooran has already done well. Deepak Hooda and KL Rahul have both not done well till now, but they have still won three of their four games, which means they are in a good space. Ayush Badoni is also playing well," he added.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir was left surprised by the Indian team's decision to drop all-rounder Axar Patel for Deepak Hooda in the playing for their clash against South Africa in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). After failing to make the cut in the playing XI for India's first two Super 12 matches, Hooda finally made his T20 World Cup debut on Sunday.

Binging in Hooda for Axar was the only change India made in their playing XI from their last win against Netherlands. Gambhir failed to understand the logic behind the selection and asked where did India plan to play Hooda. He also argued if Hooda can be relied upon as India's sixth bowler.

"Ya, it was quite surprising for me. Why would you want to go with a batter when something is working for you. I know Axar has not bowled a lot, but he has bowled four overs in the previous game. India has gone with only 5 main bowlers and Hooda is your sixth bowler. Probably the reason could be that South Africa have a couple of left-handers in their ranks, that is the only reason I can think of," Gambhir said on Star Sports ahead of the start of the game.

Hooda, who made his T20 debut for India earlier this year, showcased exceptional form with the bat to earn a spot in the team's squad for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. However, he had to wait for his chance as India went with Axar as their second all-rounder alongside Hardik Pandya.

While he has been consistent in the anchor's role in the middle and the top order, Gambhir felt India could have gone with a striker of the ball lower down the order instead of playing Hooda. However, he insisted the fact that South Africa have a couple of left-handers in their batting line-up might have prompted the Indian team to select Hooda, who can be a handy leg-spinner.

'Quite surprising': Gautam Gambhir questions Deepak Hooda's selection in T20 WC clash against South Africa

Mohammed Shami is set to be ruled out of India's upcoming T20I series against South Africa as he is reportedly yet to recover from COVID-19. Shami made his comeback in India's T20 squad for the recently-concluded T20I series against Australia at home but had to miss out after he tested positive for the virus.

As per a report in PTI, he is yet to recover fully and Umesh Yadav will continue to keep his place in the squad in the upcoming three-match series against the Proteas. India will lock horns with Sri Lanka in a three-match rubber starting from Wednesday (September 28) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

As per the report, all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda are also set to miss the T20I series against South Africa. While Hooda has been ruled out due to back spasms, Hardik is set to be rested having played continuous cricket since the IPL 2022 earlier this year.

Hooda will be replaced by middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer while all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed will take Hardik's spot in the squad. Shahbaz had earlier received his maiden India call-up on India's tour of Zimbabwe earlier this year as a replacement for injured Washington Sundar.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma explained why Hooda didn't get to bowl even a single over against Sri Lanka and said he felt he needed to attack with his main spinners in the middle overs when India were looking for wickets. Former India cricketer and ex-chairman of selectors Krish Srikanth has slammed the Indian team management for picking Shreyas Iyer over in-form Deepak Hooda in the first T20I against West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Friday. Iyer was dismissed on a 4-ball duck in the game as the debate over his inclusion further intensified.

Hooda, who had recently become only the fifth Indian batter to score a century in T20Is, was surprisingly snubbed from the playing XI for the series-opener against West Indies on Friday leaving many baffled. Questions were raised further on his absence after Iyer's flop show in the game.

Srikanth's comments during a panel discussion of which former India spinner Pragyan Ojha was also a part. While Srikanth slammed Dravid over Hooda's absence from the playing XI, Ojha defended the Indian head coach. “Rahul bhai believes that if a player performed for you first then play him and back him. Deepak Hooda hit a master-class maiden century as India survived a mighty scare before defeating Ireland by four runs in a nail-bitting high-scoring second T20 International to sweep the two-match series here on Tuesday. Hooda scored 104 off 57 balls to become only the fourth Indian to hit a T20 International ton, while Sanju Samson contributed 77 off 42 balls to power India to a mammoth 225 for seven after opting to bat.

Ireland took the chase to the last over with skipper Andy Balbirnie (60 off 37), Paul Stirling (40 off 18), Harry Tector (39 off 28) and George Dockrell (34 not out off 16) shinning bright but they eventually fell short as rookie India pacer Umran Malik defended 17 runs in the final over.

Opting to bat, Hooda showed he belonged to the big stage with his scintillating stroke play, both off the front and backfoot. While Hooda was elegant and at ease on the frontfoot, he was equally good on the backfoot, dispatching the ball over the midwicket boundary for a few sixes.

Hooda decorated his knock with nine fours and six hits over the fence. He was ably supported by Sanju Samson, who, opening the batting in place of injured Ruturaj Gaikwad, played second fiddle but grabbed his opportunity with both hands. Both Hooda and Samson's strokeplay down the ground were a treat for the eyes.

Ireland made a rollicking start to their chase, with Stirling and Balbirnie sharing 72 runs for the opening wicket off just 34 balls. Stirling went hammer and tongs from the world go. Stirling took Bhuvneshwar Kumar to task, hitting the bowler for a six and three boundaries to pick up 18 runs from the opening over.

Stirling then clobbered skipper Hardik Pandya for a six. The opening duo continued their attacking display to notch up Ireland's 50 for no loss in just four overs. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi broke the dangerous-looking 72-run opening stand in the sixth over, cleaning up Stirling.
