Shreyas Iyer's inclusion in India's squad for the World Cup led to some eyebrows being raised as the batter had not played in the Asia Cup due to 'back spasms' despite returning from an injury. The BCCI, however, continued to show faith in the batsman and Iyer repaid it with a brilliant century in the second ODI against Australia in Indore.

Batting at number three, Iyer smashed 105 off just 90 balls while adding 200 runs with Shubman Gill for the second wicket as India amassed 399/5 in 50 overs - their highest score in ODIs against Australia. Speaking about his performance, Iyer said that he always believed in his abilities and would thank himself for the innings.

“It was definitely a roller coaster ride. I would like to thank myself, to be honest. For believing in my abilities and mindset at that point of time. I was feeling a bit lonely but thanks to my physios, my trainers, my family they backed me, grateful to have them around,” Iyer told reporters after his Player-of-the-Match innings.

“I was desperate to come back and come back strong. I was waiting to convert the starts which I got in the previous games. Today I got the opportunity, I am grateful,” said Iyer.

“To be honest I was not doubting my abilities because I knew I was batting brilliantly in the nets, also the start I got against Pakistan. Just a matter of one inning and I knew it was around the corner, thankfully I was able to execute,” he added.

Iyer, notably, is coming off&nbsp;a long injury layoff and rates his hundred - third in ODIs - as one of the finest innings so far.

“It was one of my finest innings, especially coming out of an injury. I was eagerly waiting to come back and perform for the team. All these game we are getting before the World Cup, it is a good platform for us, especially me as I have not got a lot of games under my belt," he said.

India lead the three-match series 2-0 and the third ODI will be played on September 27 in Rajkot.

India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is not playing the second ODI against Australia in Indore on Sunday, September 24 but will join the squad for the third and final ODI of the series in Rajkot. India have included Prasidh Krishna in the Playing XI as informed by stand-in skipper KL Rahul. No other changes have been made to the side apart from Krishna taking Bumrah's place as India aim to win the series after winning the first ODI by five wickets in Mohali.

As for Australia, Steve Smith came out for the toss as their regular skipper Pat Cummins decided to sit out of the Indore ODI. Notably, Cummins made a comeback to the side in the first ODI after suffering injury in Ashes series. Apart from him, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh also did not feature in Australia's final XI which saw three changes in total.

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis was also left out from the team as Australia included Alex Carey, Josh Hazlewood and handed a debut fast bowler Spencer Johnson.&nbsp;

The squad has been shared in two parts -- for the opening two games and the series decider. With Axar Patel picking up an injury during the Asia Cup, R Ashwin and Washington Sundar are part of all the three ODIs whereas Ruturaj Gaikwad -- who is set to lead India in the Asian Games starting on September 23 -- is&nbsp;part of the Rahul-led squad.

BCCI announces India squad for Australia ODIs: Rohit, Kohli to feature in series finale, R Ashwin returns

With almost two weeks left for the start of the Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, the BCCI has announced that no fans will be allowed inside the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on September 29 for the warm-up game between Pakistan and New Zealand.

Per a BCCI source, the Indian Cricket Board will issue directions to the ticketing partner – Bookmyshow, to refund money to those who had booked tickets for this tie in advance.

“The game will be played without spectators, and those who have booked their tickets, their money will be refunded,” a BCCI official confirmed, as quoted by the Indian Express.

Earlier, the local security agencies had issued concerns about being unable to provide adequate cover for the Pakistan-New Zealand warm-up tie because of two festivals, Ganesh Visarjan and Milad-Un-Nabi culminating a day before on September 28.&nbsp;

Given the schedule was already locked, the organisers were unable to make the change at the last minute, leaving the BCCI and HCA with only one option – to let this game get underway behind closed doors.

So it's a very knowledgeable group and they are going to have to use all that experience against batting line-ups across the globe and play without fear."

Be it the hassle around booking tickets or local agencies denying providing adequate security for the World Cup games, the drama continues to unfold with almost three weeks left for the marquee event to get underway in India on October 5. Besides this, the latest reports suggest that the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala is said to have received a non-satisfactory review from the ICC’s inspection panel headed by pitch consultant Andy Atkinson, who reviewed all venues during their visit in September.

In his latest report submitted, Atkinson said the Dharamsala outfield is infested by fungus and raised the concerns with all parties related. Commenting on the same, a source close to the information claimed the matter will be addressed by BCCI's top brass, adding the Indian board is hopeful of resolving this issue sooner than expected.&nbsp;

“Atkinson’s review was quite concerning. The outfield has been majorly affected by Grade IV fungal infestation. He has raised the issue with the BCCI operations team. The local authorities are looking into the issue,” a BCCI source told TOI.&nbsp;

The first game at the venue will be played on October 7 between Bangladesh and Afghanistan, while the India-New Zealand is scheduled on October 22.

Meanwhile, the unnamed source added that BCCI secretary Jay Shah might also travel to Dharamsala around September 20 to look into the matter, assuring the issue will get resolved.

Although Himachal Pradesh received heavy rainfall this year, the roads and infrastructure are said to be intact for the spectators to travel and watch the World Cup games.&nbsp;

Although he claims he didn’t target any individual through his words and instead exposed the system, not necessarily in cricket, Prasad insisted this is his observation of how top players across sectors operate in this part of the world. Moreover, since the World Cup ticketing episode didn’t sit well with the fans, the Indian Cricket Board reissued more than 400,000 tickets in the second leg. Commenting on the same, Prasad posted on X, saying there was an unreasonable delay in the schedule in the first place and then the drama, which unfolded while booking tickets.

When asked if his outbursts meant pointing fingers at the BCCI since he doesn’t work with them anymore, Prasad said, “Not at all. I have, in fact, been offered positions but not ready for it.” &nbsp;

Speaking about his numbers, Warner has played in 144 ODI in his career, scoring 6,136 runs at an average of 45 and with a high score of 179. In Tests, Warner is a force to reckon with, having scored 8,487 runs in 199 innings of 109 matches at an average of 44 and with a highest of 335. The opening batsman has also played 99 T20Is, scoring 2,894 runs at an average of 32.88 with a highest of 100.

“We have been playing here in Sri Lanka for the past two months or so. We have played Tests, we played a series against Afghanistan and then the LPL... So it can be said that we have an advantage,” the Pak skipper added.

The BCCI is set to release a second lot of 400, 000 tickets for the upcoming ODI World Cup with the first phase getting sold out in minutes. The fans were disappointed for not getting the tickets in the earlier phase but will now have the opportunity to book their tickets for the premium fixtures.

"The BCCI deeply acknowledges that fans are the heartbeat of the tournament, and their unwavering passion, engagement, and contributions are pivotal to the success of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023," the statement said.

“The general sale of tickets for all matches of the World Cup will commence from 8 pm IST on September 8, adding that fans will be notified of the further sale of tickets in the next phase in due course,” the statement further added.&nbsp;

The BCCI had seen a big backlash from the fans and the stakeholders for releasing the schedule of the ODI World Cup late while revealing the ticket details just weeks before the planned tournament. To add further embarrassment, BCCI and International Cricket Council (ICC) made further changes to the fixture list with India’s scheduled tie against Pakistan moving to Saturday, October 14.

Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody, however, thinks that India have a balanced side and that 'home advantage' is going to be big for them. Moody also added that Bumrah and Shami's fitness is going to be the key for India in the quadrennial tournament.

“Yes, I think they have a side that’s good enough to win the World Cup. I think home advantage will be a big one for India, but I bring that point around the fitness. The fitness of Bumrah and Shami is absolutely key to me as both of them are high-quality new ball bowlers,” Moody said in a conversation on Star Sports.

“I think a lot of it depends on the fitness and longevity of Bumrah. I think he holds such an important key for India because he has such high quality and impacts the game early and also closes the innings. And I see that it’s basically going to be a difficult World Cup with regards to making sure that you keep your bowlers fit. It’s a long campaign, but India certainly have got the diversity in their side. It’s just the case of them making sure they have their key players fit, particularly their bowlers,” he added.

The marquee event starts October 5 with the final scheduled to take place on November 19.

Binny and Shukla are travelling to Pakistan after an invitation was extended to the members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and other cricket boards by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to attend the mega event. Shukla made it clear that their two-day visit is not for political reasons but purely cricket.

"This two-day visit is purely from the point of view of cricket, nothing political, a dinner has been hosted and three teams will be there - Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh."

While Binny, who is making his first visit to Pakistan since 2006 is looking forward to it and said, "I am looking forward to my visit since we've been to Colombo to see matches in Sri Lanka."

When asked about why the Indian team did not tour Pakistan for the tournament and the future possibility of such a tour, Rajeev Shukla said " We will go by the advice of the government, whatever the government decides we will do that."

The 2023 Asia Cup is being held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka between August 30 and September 17. Pakistan are in Group A alongside Nepal and India. Meanwhile, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are in Group B.

"REPUBLIC OF BHARAT - happy and proud that our civilisation is marching ahead boldly towards AMRIT KAAL," Sarma wrote on X. Since then, the voices have been increasing to rename India as Bharat.

As per Article 1 of the Indian Constitution, it declares that 'India, that is Bharat' is a 'Union of States'. Further, the inaugural article of India's constitution defines India's territory as well as its nomenclature-related aspects.

It is to be noted that all the teams have until September 28 to make any changes to the squad. Thus, some late changes might take place.&nbsp;

After BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar named India's final 15 in a press conference along with captain Rohit Sharma in Sri Lanka, the duo took some questions from the reporters.

Sympathising with the dropped players, Rohit said, "There are no surprises and you can only get 15 in. Some of the guys will be disappointed. I have gone through it and I know how it feels. We have good all-round options and this is the best 15 we could get."

It is to be noted that Rohit played his first 50-over World Cup in 2015 as he was left out of MS Dhoni-led India's victorious squad from the 2011 edition. Back in 2011, when India co-hosted the mega event with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Hitman was overlooked as his competitors Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina got a look-in.

However, Rohit revamped in style and had a decent run in 2015 whereas came to his best in the 2019 edition, ending as the highest run-getter (648 runs with five centuries) in England and Wales. Thus, the 36-year-old has gone through a lot of ups and downs and will surely lend a supporting hand to the players who failed to make the cut.

Rohit insisted that India are yet to find their right combination and added, "I have not thought about plans yet. The problem of plenty is a good problem to have. India will open their campaign versus Australia in Chennai&nbsp;on October 8 whereas the CWC 2023 opener will be held on October 5 with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
