Agarkar also spoke about selecting Jadeja and Patel as both of them have same skill set - bringing the ball into the left-handers.

"Clearly, there will be discussions given we have both Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel who spin the ball into left-handers," Agarkar said. "[But] both give us depth in batting. Kuldeep takes the ball away. In 50 overs cricket, perhaps you would ideally want an off-spinner but this gives us the best balance. Seamers tend to bowl a lot more in ODIs as compared to T20 cricket, and perhaps you're a little more under pressure if you don't have an offie, so we're happy with the guys we have."

India's schedule at the CWC 2023 edition

After Australia, India will face Afghanistan on October 11 at the national capital New Delhi, and then lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan on October 14 in Ahmedabad. From thereon, the Men in Blue will take on Bangladesh, in Pune, on October 19, New Zealand on October 22 in Dharamshala, and England on October 29 in Lucknow, respectively.&nbsp;

India will host Sri Lanka on November 02&nbsp;at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and then meet South Africa on November 05 and the Netherlands on November 12 in Bengaluru, respectively.&nbsp;In the last edition, in 2019, India bowed out of the semi-finals in England and Wales. This is the first time that India will entirely host the edition. The last time&nbsp;they co-hosted the showpiece event was with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2011, when they won the championship under MS Dhoni.&nbsp;

Coming off a washout, India would hope they only have greenhorns Nepal to tackle and not rain as the heavyweights eye a berth in the Super Four of the Asia Cup here on Monday. From Group A, Pakistan have already qualified to the Super Four with 3 points, and India have one point from the washed-out game against their arch-rivals on Saturday.

Even in the event of another rain-marred match on the morrow, India can advance to the Super Four with two points, but Rohit Sharma's men will certainly not want it that way.

India received some encouraging signals from their match against Pakistan, and they would want to build on them ahead of the business end of this tournament and much sterner assays in the waiting.

Pakistan pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf had reduced India to 66 for 4 by the 15th over. At that point, India's worries might have been accentuated by the fact that they have a jelly middle-order.

Ishan Kishan was playing the first match of his career at No. 5 in ODIs and Hardik Pandya never really fitted the bill of a firefighter.

However, both Kishan and Pandya overcame their personal predicaments to amass 138 runs for the fifth wicket, cornerstone of India's eventual 266.

Kishan was particularly impressive, as his forte is being a dashing top-order batsman.

So, there was that hint of doubt whether Kishan would be able to make the necessary adjustments to his batting and approach to suit the No. 5 slot.

He excelled on both the counts. As a top-order batter Kishan was susceptible to pacers who could move the ball around.

Instead of trusting his defence, Kishan's method to get out of the cage was being aggressive. But here he had to be defensive.

Rauf, Afridi and Naseem Shah tested his fortitude but for once Kishan showed that he can offer a scratch.

Nepal do not have the quality of Pakistan, but Kishan would like to have a go at them and add some more runs under his belt to boost his new profile.

Similarly, the management will also welcome the composure Pandya showed while playing second fiddle to Kishan, and the seamless shifting of gears the all-rounder did after the left-hander's dismissal.

The adaptability and the no-egotistical methods of Pandya would have pleased the think-tank no end.

Even though the stuttering effort of their top four – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer – against Pakistan pacers could be treated as an aberration, the management would want them to get into ODI mode at the earliest.

Asia Cup: India aim Super Four berth against Nepal after washout with Pakistan

President Roger Binny and Vice President Rajeev Shukla of the BCCI honored the PCB's invitation to witness the Asia Cup in Pakistan by traveling there for the first time in 17 years on Monday after crossing the Attari-Wagah.

Binny and Shukla revealed they came to Pakistan on PCB’s invite and will be watching Afghanistan vs&nbsp;Sri Lanka game at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday.

A four-member delegation from the BCCI arrived in Pakistan for the first time since the 2008 Mumbai attacks. When asked about thoughts on India-Pakistan resuming bilateral ties, BCCI&nbsp;VP Shukla said ‘will see later’, adding the focus right now is on the Asia Cup.&nbsp;

On the other hand, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee, Zaka Ashraf, thanked the BCCI’s delegation for coming to Pakistan on his invitation and would reciprocate the gesture if and when invited by the Indian Cricket Board. While holding hands with the BCCI officials, Ashraf said he’s “positive that the cricketing ties will grow, which will lead to growth in bilateral ties”.

<h2>India-Pakistan bilateral series is still a far-fetched dream</h2>

Having last played in a bilateral series in 2013 in India, both arch-rivals only face off in ICC-related events or Asia Cups. While Pakistan was granted the hosting rights for this year’s edition, BCCI’s refusal to travel across the border, owing to stranded relations between both countries, saw Sri Lanka being roped in as a last-minute co-host.

With Asia Cup 2023 being played in a first-ever hybrid model, Pakistan is hosting four games, while Sri Lanka will stage the remaining nine matches, including all India fixtures and the finale on September 17.

India’s first match against Pakistan in Pallekele, Kandy, ended in a no-result, courtesy of rain. After winning their clash against Nepal and gaining one point against India, Pakistan became the first team to qualify for the Super Four stage.&nbsp;

Their next game will be against the second-ranked side from Group B on September 6, Wednesday, in Lahore.

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik says the current Pakistan pace bowling attack comprising Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf is better than what India have. Karthik made the comments while talking to media outlet Cricbuzz after the Pak pace trio took all 10 wickets in the Asia Cup 2023 match against India.

“Shaheen, Haris Rauf and Naseem can bowl 90+ consistently and all three are very different in nature,” said Karthik. “Shaheen Shah obviously the left-armer, has an angle to it and brings the ball back in, Naseem Shah swings the ball both ways, Haris is arguably one of the best bowlers right now at the back end of an inning because of his skid and the nasty bouncer that he’s got,” he added.

Notably, Pak pacers were all over India in the Asia Cup 2023 match with a perfect display of seam and swing. The best of the lot was Shaheen Afridi who accounted for the wickets of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja. Karthik also said that Pakistan are currently 'more potent' than India's pace attack on flat wickets.

“For me they are a far more potent attack on flat wickets,” he said. “If there is something in the pitch then both attacks at all times become very equal but if I had to play an attack I have a feeling, I have a better chance of probably playing Jasprit, Bumrah, Siraj and Shami only because the bounce they’ll get will be slightly lesser than what these three other bowlers can do from Pakistan,” he further added.

The game between Pakistan and India, however, did not produce a result as rain marred the second innings after India finished on 266 in 48.5 overs. With Pakistan already through Super Four, India will aim for that same in their match against Nepal on Monday, September 4.

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi launched a scathing attack on the Asia Cup scheduling after the marquee clash between India and Pakistan in Kandy, Sri Lanka, ended in a no-result, courtesy of rain playing a spoilsport. Sethi, who was in charge of the board when the decision of Pakistan and Sri Lanka to co-host the Asia Cup broke out, had suggested UAE as one of the alternatives, which BCCI denied due to unfavourable playing conditions during these months.

Owing to strained relations between India and Pakistan, the Indian government&nbsp;denied BCCI permission to allow its team to travel to Pakistan – the original host of this year’s Asia Cup. After learning about India’s stance, the PCB had to compromise on the hosting rights as Sri Lanka and not the UAE was roped in as the last-moment co-host of the six-team tournament.

Sethi, who got re-appointed as the PCB head after Ramiz Raja was unceremoniously asked to vacate the position, had proposed UAE as one of the alternatives. Jay Shah, BCCI’s secretary and ACC boss, denied the proposal, citing excessive heat and unfavourable conditions during August-September. As a result, Sri Lanka was picked as the second option.

Expressing his frustration and displeasure over the missed opportunity, Sethi took to social media saying, owing to picking politics over sports, players, fans and everyone got robbed of watching a great game of cricket between two arch-rivals.

India wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan played one of the most important innings of his ODI career, scoring 82 off 81 balls and helped India recover from 66/4. Kishan finally was dismissed in 38th over by Haris Rauf but by that time India had successfully recovered from the precarious position.

In his next over, Afridi took out India's star batsman Virat Kohli who tried to play the ball towards third man for a single but the ball took an inside edge and hit the stumps. Haris Rauf then took over the reins and took the wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill to leave India four down for 66 in 15th over.

Asia Cup: Pak pacer Haris Rauf gives SEND OFF to Ishan Kishan after taking his wicket - WATCH

India are all set to begin&nbsp;their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka and their Playing XI is going to be in the focus a lot. A lot of players are making their comebacks in ODI side including pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah, middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. While Rahul has already been ruled out of the first two games of the tournament as he recovers from a niggle, Iyer made it to the final XI.

Before these players were available, BCCI gave chances to a lot of players including Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan to name few. While India won some game, it recently lost a limited-overs series against West Indies and received a lot of criticism.

Speaking on the same, former Pak skipper Ramiz Raja also said that India are tinkering a lot with their final XI unlike Pakistan who, according to Raza, have a rather settled side.

“India might be a little rusty, they are still searching for the right combination. The one big reason for that is even in the World Cup year, they haven't succeeded in producing a settled unit. I'm actually shocked that they are tinkering unnecessarily with a winning combination, they experiment with batting order and the focus moves to something else,” said Ramiz on his official YouTube channel.

“If you ask anyone about Pakistan's playing XI, he will tell you without much of a thought. But if you ask someone about India's XI, there are still doubts. And this might benefit Pakistan,” added Raja.

Recently, India coach Rahul Dravid clarified on why there was a lot of 'experimenting,' saying that it <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/india-coach-rahul-dravid-answers-all-experimenting-questions-says-didnt-do-for-sake-of-it-630582">wasn't for the sake of it</a>. Dravid said players getting injured in space of two-three months forced them to give other players chances in the playing XI.

The deadline for all participating teams to name their respective teams by September 5 is approaching and each side would have the leverage to make last-minute changes by September 28 in case of any injury.

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will sit with the team management, coach and the captain to select the final 15. Speaking to the media before leaving for Colombo, Rohit and Agarkar noted the World Cup squad could look similar to the Asia Cup one, with a couple of omissions.

While most of the slots are occupied and sealed by selected players, question-mark around numbers four and five (in the batting order), with all eyes on the returning pair of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. Both returned to the reckoning after spending a few months on the sidelines due to their injuries.&nbsp;

Viacom 18 – which had previously won the digital rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) alongside linear and digital properties of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), has bagged the media rights of BCCI’s home international matches for the next five years. Viacom 18 won digital and television rights, agreeing to spend INR 678 million per game.

"It gives the impression that we don't have clarity on who was going to be there, but to be very honest with you, I could have told you 18 or 19 months ago the top two-three candidates we were looking at for the No. 4, 5 slots. It was always going to be Shreyas [Iyer], KL [Rahul] and Rishabh [Pant] for those spots, right?

"If you look back on some of the teams that we picked from 18 months ago, there was no doubt in our minds. Obviously, it's unfortunate that all three of them ended up with injuries in the space of two months. What are the odds of that happening? And I don't think we can, nobody can, calculate for that, especially with the limited number of games that we had in one-day cricket," he added.

India wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul, who returned to the Asia Cup squad after recovering from an&nbsp;injury, has been ruled out of the first two matches of the regional tournament. While announcing the squad, selection committee head Ajit Agarkar had said that Rahul is not completely fit and the same was confirmed by coach Rahul Dravid after wrapping up the training camp at NCA, Bengaluru.

"The NCA will be looking after him for the next few days while we are travelling. We will reassess on the 4th (September) and take it from there. But signs are looking good. He will be unavailable for the first two games," Dravid said.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also tweeted the same, confirming Rahul's exclusion from the group stage of the Asia Cup.

CWC '23: India skipper Rohit wants to get back to '2019 frame of mind' ahead of quadrennial event

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny and vice president Rajeev Shukla will be travelling to Pakistan ahead of the start of the Asia Cup 2023. The news was first reported by media outlet The Indian Express and cites a BCCI official official, confirming the same.

“BCCI president Binny and vice president Shukla will be going to Pakistan to watch a few games. PCB had invited BCCI and as one of the key member of ACC, Binny and Shukla will be travelling to Pakistan,” a BCCI official confirmed to The Indian Express.

This would be first time a BCCI official will be visiting the neighouring country since 2008. The cricketing ties froze between them due to ongoing political tensions after 2008 Mumbai terror&nbsp;attack. The stalemate between the countries also prompted India to not travel to Pakistan for the regional tournament.&nbsp;

After long discussions between the original host&nbsp;Pakistan&nbsp;and the member countries, the tournament is now being held jointly by Sri Lanka and Pakistan with first four matches being played in the latter country.

Binny and Shukla will be visiting Lahore which is the venue for three of the four games being hosted by Pakistan. The tournament will kick off on August 30 when Pakistan take on Nepal.

As for the tournament, a total of six teams are taking part in it:&nbsp;Pakistan, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The teams are divided into two groups of three each. India, Pakistan and Nepal are in one group while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan make the second one.

Each team will play other two in its group once in the group stage and top two will qualify for the next round. The top four teams from both groups will play each other once in round-robin format and the top two will clash in the final. India will start their campaign on September 2 against Pakistan in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

He posted a story on his Instagram handle, saying,&nbsp;“The happiness of finishing the Yo-Yo test between the dreaded cones. 17.2 don.”

It, however, didn’t go down well with the Indian Cricket Board, which looked at this as a breach of contract clause.

As reported in the Indian Express, the board officials have verbally asked players to take note of the dos and don’ts of posting stuff on social media. A BCCI official privy to the information told the media outlet, “Players have been informed verbally to avoid posting any confidential matter on social media platforms. They can post pictures while training, but posting a score leads to breach of contract clause."

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the warm-up fixtures for all 10 participating teams in the ODI World Cup which is starting from October 5 in India. Each team will play two warm-up matches at three venues namely Hyderabad, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram in week preceding the tournament.

“The 10 teams will each play two official 50-over contests during the week leading up to the start of the World Cup on October 5, with matches to be held in three different cities across India,” said an official release by the ICC.

All games will commence at 2:00pm IST and teams will be allowed to field all members of their 15-player squads during the matches,” it added.

Apart from 10 warm-up games, the World Cup will have 48 games, including two semi-finals and the final, in a round-robin format.

India will be playing its two warm-up games against defending champions England and Netherlands. The dates and venues for India's fixtures are September 30 and October 3 in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, respectively. Before the World Cup, India will also be taking part in the Asia Cup.
