<p>Sources told The Dawn, on Tuesday (August 01), that Pakistan's much-awaited face-off versus arch-rivals Rohit Sharma-led India will be preponed by a day. The match is set to take place at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad but the date will undergo a&nbsp;change, i.e. from October 15 to October 14. The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the full itinerary last month.&nbsp;However, it is believed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently requested some tweaks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Indo-Pak tie is likely to take place on October 14 as the match will clash with a religious&nbsp;festival&nbsp;if held on its original date. Thus, security arrangements can be a huge concern. Similarly, Pakistan's game versus 1996 winners Sri Lanka will also take place on October 10, and not on October 12</p>

The committee will give the green signal to&nbsp;the venues where Pakistan is set to play only after due diligence&nbsp;on security. The 11-member working group will meet&nbsp;on Thursday (August 03) and a final decision is&nbsp;likely on the same day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>England, the defending champions, and New Zealand will kick off the ODI World Cup on October 05 in Ahmedabad whereas hosts India play their opening game versus Australia, in Chennai, on October 08.</p>

<p>India's stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya has said that his 'body is fine' and he only needs to up his workload to be able to bowl in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup. Pandya made the comments after India's loss in the second ODI against West Indies in Barbados.</p>

<p>“My body is fine. I have to bowl more overs and get my workload up for the World Cup. I’m a turtle right now not the rabbit and hoping everything goes right as the World Cup comes on,” said Pandya who bowled 6.4 overs in the match for 38 runs and no wickets.</p>

<p>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed plans for entry into the ODI World Cup venues as they will not use e-ticket entries for the showpiece event. Board secretary Jay Shah in the brass body meeting on Thursday, July 27 confirmed that there will be 7 to 8 centers for physical ticket redemption. The board is also in the final stage to finalise the ticket sale partner for the ODI World Cup as the countdown has already begun for the marquee tournament.</p>

<p>We can't use e-tickets this time around but will ensure to have physical ticket redemption at 7-8 centers well in advance. But physical ticket needs to be retained," Shah said on the entry procedure for the ticket sale.</p>

<p>"It will get difficult to manage e-tickets at high-capacity venues like Ahmedabad and Lucknow. Our plan is to start using e-tickets more in bilaterals first and then take it to multi-nation events like the World Cup," the BCCI secretary went on to add," he added.</p>

<p>According to the BCCI, it is difficult to manage the e-ticket entries into the stadium, especially for an event like ODI World Cup. The board plans to use the e-ticket entries in future bilateral series and tournaments when the procedure becomes less complex.</p>

<p>The BCCI faced criticism during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season when there was a lack of e-tickets at the venue. This led to overcrowding at the big venues as there were no redemption centers at the venues. The board aims to carry out a smooth fan experience with the World Cup 10 little over two months away.</p>

<h2><strong>Jam-packed next few months for Team India</strong></h2>

<p>India will kick start their busy few months with the ODI series against Australia on September 22. The three-match series will start in Mohali with both teams heading to Indore and Rajkot for the remaining two ODIs. Both teams will then head for the ODI World Cup where India and Australia will meet on October 8 in Chennai. Both India and Australia will hope to meet again in the World Cup knockout stage either in the final or the semifinal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Australia will then stay in India for the T20I series which will start on November 23 and will consist of five matches. Vizag, Guwahati, and Hyderabad will be some of the preeminent venues for the series.</p>

<p>India will then depart for South Africa where they will stay until the turn of the year before coming back in January.</p>

<p>Test cricket will then take over as India will host England for a five-match Test series starting on 25th January 2024. The exciting Test series will be played at Hyderabad, Vizag, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala.</p>

<p>Interestingly, Dharamsala missed out on hosting India vs Australia contest in March as the stadium was not in a condition to host. However, it will now make up for that loss as India and England will stage their rivalry in the hill station of Himachal in 2024.</p>

<p>After the conclusion of the England series, the IPL 2024 will be on the agenda as the premier competition will be in focus.</p>

<p>The BCCI's latest statement on injury updates of several star players, including Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Prasidh Krishna, did lift the morale of fans on Friday, and as per latest reports, a board member privy to the information has revealed the tentative date around which Rishabh Pant's anticipated return to international cricket could happen.</p>

<p>The release stated while both seamers (Bumrah and Prasidh) have almost regained full fitness and are raring to go, Pant is also recovering at a significant pace, with the keeper-batter said to have resumed batting and keeping but under medical guidance.&nbsp;</p>

Rahane will have to make runs, and then everything else will follow," he said.</p>

<p>Rahane had been dropped from the Test team and was considered to play in the WTC Final only after KL Rahul got injured. Rahane's swashbuckling IPL 2023, however, played a part in his selection as well.</p>

<p>"If his form was great from that Australia series after that 36 all-out, the way he led, scored a hundred in Melbourne… had his form remained the same, he would have been the next Test captain. But he lost his form and got dropped," Jaffer said.</p>

<p>"However, he reinvented himself in the IPL and got a chance in the WTC final. He was appointed the vice-captain as well, because the Indian selectors see a good leader in him. He still has age on his side but he needs to score runs, if he does not then he will find it difficult," he added.</p>

<p>Notably, Rahane has been able to score only in single digits during the two innings he has batted against West Indies in the ongoing tour. While the batsman had scored 89 and 46 during WTC Final, his consistency has been rare as Jaffer pointed out.</p>

Apart from the opening match in Multan - a new addition in the draft schedule as opposed to the previous versions, Bangladesh vs Afghanistan on September 3, Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan on September 5 and a Super Fours match between A1 and B2 is scheduled to be played in Lahore, Pakistan.</p>

<p>It has also been mentioned in the schedule that regardless of where the teams finish in the group stage, Pakistan will remain A1 and India will be A2. As for the Group B, Sri Lanka will be B1 and Bangladesh B2. In the unlikely scenario of Nepal or Afghanistan making &nbsp;it to the Super Fours, they'll replace the knocked-out team in their respective groups.</p>

<p>The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) registered its dissent on Monday, July 17, against ICC's new Financial Distribution Model (2023-27) that unanimously got approved following ICC Board Meeting earlier this month. The PCB, in a statement, said they wanted it to get deferred to the next ICC meet, but because other members decided against backing PCB on this, it got tabled on Thursday, July 13.</p>

<p>With PCB's counterpart, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), set to pocket the biggest slab, earning approx. $230 million out of the allotted $600 million pot for the next four years, the Pakistan Board sought more details on the same to understand their cut in this reworked model.</p>

<p>While the BCCI takes the daddy amount (nearly 38.4%), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), with a $41 million share or 6.89%, is next in line, and Cricket Australia (CA) is third with $37.53 million or 6.25%.</p>

The PCB felt in the absence of all relevant information, data and formulae, such a significant decision should not be taken in haste," PCB said in a statement on Monday.</p>

<p>"The PCB, therefore, proposed that this item may be deferred to the next ICC meeting.</p>

<p>"Ultimately, the majority of members did not find it feasible to defer this item and voted in favour of passing the Model, while the PCB recorded its dissent as a matter of principle," it added.</p>

<h2>'PCB was to receive double the share in new model'</h2>

<p>With cricket returning to Pakistan after a gap of nearly ten years and almost every big team travelling to the country for a bilateral series, barring India (due to political tensions between both countries), the PCB urged for a better share of revenue in the latest Financial Model.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The PCB also said it was set to receive double the share it got in the previous cycle because of what it brought to the table.</p>

<p>"Consequently, due to the Pakistan cricket team’s performance in men’s ICC events and in bilateral cricket, the PCB’s own huge fan base, which leads to significant commercial value, the PCB was ranked amongst the top-four nations in this Model. As such, the PCB will receive more than two times the revenue when compared to the last cycle," PCB said.</p>

He has also batted in similar numbers as I do – at 5 or 6 – and he has done it for the majority of his career and knows the position in and out. I simply asked him how to better my game, and his advice was very simple: You are batting really well. Continue whatever you have done so far,” said Rinku.</p>

<p>The Women’s Selection Committee on Friday announced India’s squad for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou to be held from September 19 to October 8, 2023, at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field.</p>

<p>The women’s cricket competition will take place from September 19 to 28 2023 in a T20 format. Asian Games will take place in China this year from September 23 to October 8, 2023. Cricket will be featured in the multi-sport event. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead Team India in the Asian Games while star batter Smriti Mandhana will play the role of her deputy. Richa Ghosh and Uma Chetry will wear wicket-keeping gloves for Team India.</p>

<p>India have added five players -- Harleen Deol, Kashvee Gautam, Sneh Rana, Saika Ishaque and Pooja Vastrakar -- to its standby list.</p>

<p>Cricket has been played only twice at the Asian Games. Both editions were not attended by the Indian cricket team.</p>

<p>For the men's team, the Asian Games cricket competition falls during a vital time period because India will host the ODI World Cup beginning on October 5.</p>

The Women’s Selection Committee on Friday announced India’s squad for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou to be held from September 19 to October 8, 2023, at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field. The women’s cricket competition will take place from September 19 to 28 2023 in a T20 format. Asian Games will take place in China this year from September 23 to October 8, 2023. Cricket will be featured in the multi-sport event. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead Team India in the Asian Games while star batter Smriti Mandhana will play the role of her deputy. Richa Ghosh and Uma Chetry will wear wicket-keeping gloves for Team India. India have added five players -- Harleen Deol, Kashvee Gautam, Sneh Rana, Saika Ishaque and Pooja Vastrakar -- to its standby list. Cricket has been played only twice at the Asian Games. Both editions were not attended by the Indian cricket team. The Indian team will gear up for the tour of the African nation soon after the end of the ODI World Cup at home. After the ODI WC, they will play Australia in a T20I series before leaving for South Africa for an all-format tour, comprising three T20Is, an equal number of ODIs and two Tests.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The tour will kick off with three T20Is with the first game on December 10 in Durban. The remaining two games will be played on December 12 and 14, in Gqeberha and Johannesburg respectively. It will be followed by the three-match ODI series, in J'burg, Gqrberha and Paarl, on December 17, 19 and 21 respectively.</p>

<p>The focus will then shift to the two Tests, with the series opener on December 26 in Centurion followed by the deciding clash in Cape Town on January 03. The series will be crucial for both teams with vital points up for grabs in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.</p>

<p>India travelled to South Africa in 2021-22 where they lost the three Tests 2-1 and were whitewashed in the three ODIs.&nbsp;</p>

As per media reports, the BCCI will get 38.5% of the revenue earned by the ICC. At present, with a reported net worth of $2.25 billion in 2022, the BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world.</p>

<h2>ICC's financial model for 2024-27</h2>

<p>ICC is expected to get around Rs 4916 thousand crore (600 million US dollars) and BCCI will have the largest share. According to the new model, BCCI’s total revenue is about 38.4% and is at least six times more than the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which receives $41 million at 6.89 per cent, and Cricket Australia getting 6.25 per cent at $37.5 million. They are in the second and third position respectively.</p>

<p>The earnings of the remaining eight full members (Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, South Africa, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, West Indies, and Ireland) is less than five per cent. The BCCI has been consistently asserting that it deserves a higher share of the ICC's revenue due to India's higher contribution. The ICC is waiting for the response from the board of all the countries on the new financial model that will only be approved at the ICC annual meeting next month.</p>

<p><strong>IND vs WI:&nbsp;</strong>India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane recently made a comeback in red-ball cricket after a blistering IPL 2023. The right-hand batter proved his selection right and made a gutsy 89 in his return during India's loss in WTC 2023 final against Australia. The batter, however, turned 35 last month. While many think Rahane is approaching the twilight of his career, the batsman disagrees.</p>

<p>"What do you mean by at this age? I'm still young. There's still a lot of cricket left in me," said Rahane while replying to a question about his age during a press conference ahead of India's first Test against West Indies. India currently are in West Indies for a full tour comprising of two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is. The first Test of the two-match series starts July 12.</p>

<p>"I had a good IPL, I scored runs in domestic cricket too. Batting-wise, I got a lot of confidence. I have worked a lot on my fitness in the last 1 and a half years. Right now, I'm enjoying the kind of cricket I'm playing and not thinking too far ahead. Each and every match is important personally as well as for the team," he added.</p>

<h2><strong>IND vs WI: India's new No. 3</strong></h2>

<p>With Cheteshwar Pujara dropped, India will have a new number in the first Test. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who received their maiden India Test call up, are in contention for the slot. Speaking on the opportunity for the youngsters, Rahane said, "Great opportunity for the individual who will be playing in place of Pujara. I'm not sure who will play. All the players are experienced, I'm sure it'll be a great opportunity for whoever plays."</p>

<p>The Indian vice-captain also said he's 'very happy' for his fellow Mumbaikar Jaiswal, who is the frontrunner to make his debut in the first WI Test ahead of Gaikwad.</p>

<p>"Firstly, I'm really happy for Jaiswal. Did well for Mumbai, and in the IPL. He scored a lot of runs in the Duleep Trophy. His numbers are really good. He should bat the way he has been batting and not think too much about international cricket. It's all about going out there and expressing yourself," Rahane said.</p>

<h2><strong>India wary of West Indies</strong></h2>

<p>The two-time ICC ODI World Cup champions (1975 and '79) are out of the upcoming edition of the quadrennial event scheduled to be held in India from October 5. India, however, are not taking West Indies lightly.</p>

<p>"We are not taking West Indies lightly at all. We don't know too much about the outside noise. Their performance at home in Test cricket has been pretty good. Our focus will be to back our strengths and play good cricket," Rahane said.</p>

Right now, I'm enjoying the kind of cricket I'm playing and not thinking too far ahead. Each and every match is important personally as well as for the team," he added. "Firstly, I'm really happy for Jaiswal. Did well for Mumbai, and in the IPL. He scored a lot of runs in the Duleep Trophy. His numbers are really good. He should bat the way he has been batting and not think too much about international cricket. It's all about going out there and expressing yourself," Rahane said. India wary of West Indies The two-time ICC ODI World Cup champions (1975 and '79) are out of the upcoming edition of the quadrennial event scheduled to be held in India from October 5. India, however, are not taking West Indies lightly. "We are not taking West Indies lightly at all. We don't know too much about the outside noise. Their performance at home in Test cricket has been pretty good. Our focus will be to back our strengths and play good cricket," Rahane said. <p>Ehsaan Mazari, minister in charge of sports in Pakistan, has said that the country's cricket team won't be travelling to India for the upcoming ICC World Cup if India doesn't travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. Mazari said this in a conversation with news outlet <em>The Indian Express</em>. The statement by Mazari comes a day after Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif formed a high-profile committee to decide on the issue of Pak travelling to India for the World Cup.</p>

<p>“My personal opinion, since the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) comes under my ministry, is that if India demands to play their Asia Cup games at a neutral venue, we would also demand the same for our World Cup games in India,” said Mazari.</p>

<p>The World Cup is scheduled to be played in India from October 5 to November 19. Pakistan and India, however, are at loggerheads ever since India denied travelling to Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup. Mazari, in his conversation, also spoke about the mandate of the committee formed by the Pak PM and said that PM Sharif will take the final decision.</p>

<p>“The committee will be headed by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and I am among the 11 ministers who are part of it. We will discuss the issue and give our recommendations to the PM, who is also the patron-in-chief of PCB. The PM will take the final decision,” said Mazari.</p>

<p>India, notably, has said it won't be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup and since then, many developments have taken place. The latest is Pakistan reportedly agreeing to share the hosting with Sri Lanka in a hybrid model. After the first four games of the Asia Cup, the rest are expected to be played in Sri Lanka, which includes all the games of the Indian side and the final as well. India has cited security concerns to not travel to Pakistan and Mazari wasn't particularly pleased with it.</p>

<p>“India brings sports into politics. I don’t understand why the Indian government doesn’t want to send their cricket team here. Some time back a huge baseball contingent from India was in Islamabad to play. There was also the bridge team that had travelled to Pakistan. There were around 60-plus people, I was the chief guest of the event. They won here and left. Pakistan’s football, hockey and chess teams also travel to India,” he said.</p>
