It is unlikely he will apply himself and also the pay package isn't something that will be financially viable for someone of his stature. But if we talk about stature, only he makes the cut from North Zone. It is not that BCCI can't pay a chairman of selectors at least Rs 4-5 crore. It can actually solve a lot of these conflict of interest issues which prevent prominent players from even thinking of coming into selection committee."

Further, the BCCI official stressed on the importance of having a significant name as the chief selector. The official added that the selector needs to take brave decisions and also stand his ground in front of the captain and coach.&nbsp;

"When Dilip bhai was chairman, he had to make a choice between S Badrinath and Virat Kohli. He saw a few India A games in Australia and he knew whom to back. Rest is history. He could stand his ground in front of Greg Chappell before that."

At present, former Indian opener Shiv Sundar Das, from the East Zone, is spearheading the selection committee. The senior men's team will be in action next month during their all-format tour of the West Indies, starting July 12. BCCI will be eager to appoint the head of the selection committee very soon with the ODI World Cup to be held later this year at home.

Chennai had been offered for Pakistan’s clash against Afghanistan while Bengaluru was to host the clash against Australia.

The ICC and BCCI have reportedly stated that there is no reason to alter the venues for the World Cup on current grounds. A venue can only be changed if there are security concerns or the ground is not fit to host international matches. While BCCI ICC reserves the right to change the venue at the request of the BCCI as they are the hosts, they did not find suitable reasons to make changes to the venue.

Earlier, Pakistan had requested to change the venue for the India game which is to be held in Ahmedabad. However, the request was turned down as well, as there were no sufficient grounds to do so. Najam Sethi wanted the India vs Pakistan clash to take place away from the Narendra Modi Stadium but the ICC and the BCCI turned down the proposal.

As things stand, India and Pakistan are set to meet on October 15 with World Cup starting after the conclusion of the Asia Cup in September. The reported dates for the start of the World Cup are October 5 and the final will take place on November 19. The schedule is yet to be made public and is expected to come out in early July.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to upgrade its sponsorship policy which will see several brand categories stay away from the Indian Cricket team. According to the BCCI, it has planned to ban several categories of brands, which include alcohol, tobacco, and betting. This would see some of the traditional sponsorship brands stay away from sponsoring the Indian Cricket team at least for the near future.

BCCI shared a list of brand categories that are banned from applying for Indian cricket teams' title sponsorship. The Indian team entered the World Test Championship (WTC) final without a title sponsor as their contract with a tech-education company came to an end last financial year. On the flip side, they entered the WTC final with Adidas as their kit sponsor, while the ICC tournament rules anyway don’t permit teams from using the title sponsor in front of their shirt.

In Annexure B of the document, BCCI listed the following brand categories which are banned:

(A)&nbsp;Athleisure and Sportswear Manufacturer;

(B)&nbsp;Alcohol Products;

(C)&nbsp;Betting;

(D)&nbsp;Cryptocurrency;

(E)&nbsp;Real Money Gaming (Except Fantasy Sports Gaming);

(F)&nbsp;Tobacco; and

(G)&nbsp;one which is likely to offend public morals such as, including but not limited to, pornography.

In a tender notice released on Thursday, June 15, the BCCI plans to get a title sponsor, while it has&nbsp;already signed a mega-money deal with Adidas. The Indian team is considered one of the hottest properties in terms of financial ruling and guarantees the brand a big boost of revenue.

BCCI shared a list of brand categories that are banned from applying for Indian cricket teams' title sponsorship. The Indian team entered the World Test Championship (WTC) final without a title sponsor as their contract with a tech-education company came to an end last financial year. On the flip side, they entered the WTC final with Adidas as their kit sponsor, while the ICC tournament rules anyway don’t permit teams from using the title sponsor in front of their shirt. In Annexure B of the document, BCCI listed the following brand categories which are banned: (A) Athleisure and Sportswear Manufacturer; (B) Alcohol Products; (C) Betting; (D) Cryptocurrency; (E) Real Money Gaming (Except Fantasy Sports Gaming); (F) Tobacco; and (G) one which is likely to offend public morals such as, including but not limited to, pornography. "After West Indies, we have no Tests till December-end when the team travels to South Africa. So there is enough time for selectors to deliberate and take a decision. By then the fifth selector (new chairman) will also join the panel and a decision can be taken," the source added.

After taking on the captaincy, Rohit has led India in seven Tests and missed three - one in England due to COVID-19 and two against Bangladesh due to split webbing. Rohit has scored 390 runs in those seven matches at an average of 35.45 with his 120 against Australia in Nagpur Test of the Border-Gavaskar series being the highlight.

The source also told PTI that Rohit wasn't keen on taking the Test captaincy but erstwhile president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah convinced him to do so.

As per the development reported by ESPNCricinfo, the Asian Cricket Council is ready to approve the hybrid model suggested by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi. As per the model, all India games will be played in Sri Lanka including against Pakistan.

The PCB was miffed by India's stance and threatened to boycott from the ICC ODI WC scheduled to be held in India later this year. The board, however, offered UAE as a venue to which Bangladesh opposed, citing harsh weather conditions in the west Asian country in the month of September.&nbsp;

The Sri Lanka cricket board then made itself available for hosting the tournament, further disappointing Pakistan who reportedly backed out from traveling to the island country for a ODI series, scheduled in July.

The PCB, miffed with the stance of boards, especially SLC, has pulled out of an ODI series for which they had to travel to Sri Lanka after the Island nation projected itself as the potential host for the tournament. The SLC did so after India's repeated stance of shifting the Asia Cup entirely out of Pakistan after rejecting the hybrid model.

"Pakistan only has two options. Play the tourney at a neutral venue or withdraw," also said an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) source said.

"In case Pakistan doesn't play, it will still be called Asia Cup but the broadcaster will renegotiate the deal in the absence of Pakistan.

"There is every possibility the Asia Cup might not be held this year because without Pakistan and India matches the broadcasters are not likely to offer the same amount they were offering to the ACC with Pakistan included," the ACC source said.

Notably, Pakistan has also threatened to pull out of the ICC ODI WC&nbsp;to be held later this year in India. The ICC official, reportedly travelled to Pakistan to seek a guarantee for their participation in the quadrennial tournament, PTI had reported.

According to a report by news agency PTI, ICC chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice have travelled to Pakistan for seek reassurances from the board over their participation in the ODI WC.

"The ICC and World Cup hosts, the BCCI are concerned with hybrid model being pushed by Najam Sethi who heads the cricket management committee of the PCB. Although the hybrid model has been suggested by Sethi for the Asia Cup which precedes the ICC event, the concern remains that once accepted for the regional event the PCB might also then ask the ICC to implement it for the World Cup when it comes to Pakistan playing in India," said a source abreast of proceedings to PTI.

"Naturally neither the ICC nor the BCCI want such a situation since Pakistan's unequivocal participation in matches in India would guarantee the success of Indo-Pakistan matches and also the tournament itself," added the source.

"The ICC officials are trying to work as a bridge between the PCB and BCCI and resolve the outstanding issues pertaining to the Asia Cup and World Cup," said the source further.

ICC seeks guarantee from Pakistan to play in ODI WC amid tussle over Asia Cup with India - Report

With each passing day, a new stipulation or suggested change gets added to the Asia Cup 2023 saga that has made enough headlines for reasons unrelated to cricket. Following the IPL 2023 Final, where all Asian Cricket Council (ACC) members, barring PCB representatives, were present, Jay Shah – BCCI secretary and ACC chief, clarified his stance on PCB’s hybrid model, saying the Asia Cup will happen in Sri Lanka only, and that&nbsp;the PCB has to abide by it, else they can pull out.

Although no formal announcement has been made, as per a report in the Telegraph India, sources in the knowhow have&nbsp;revealed that PCB chief Najam Sethi will be informed about the same in the next ACC meeting.

It must be noted Pakistan was the original host for this year’s Asia Cup, and upon receiving reservations from the BCCI over their team going&nbsp;to Pakistan and playing a multi-team event series there, the PCB proposed a hybrid model - which was also denied by the Indian board.

However, as reported earlier, Jay Shah had invited top bosses from ACB, BCB and SLC for the IPL 2023 Final – and after informal discussions around the same, all agreed to play the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka, with the island nation also agreeing to host the tournament on short notice.

Meanwhile, PCB, on several occasions, has said that if Asia Cup 2023 rights were snatched from them, there is a high chance their government might not allow Pakistan to travel to India for the 50-over World Cup later this year. Given the ACC is set to inform about their call to play Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, the PCB could be prompted to take extreme measures.

Besides, the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice are currently in Lahore seeking assurance from Pakistan over their participation in the World Cup.

Following regular meetings with Najam Sethi over their short visit to Lahore, it is learnt that both ICC bosses have been informed about Pakistan’s stance on the whole episode.

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant's recovery following a horrific car crash in December 2022 has been better than expected, and the star player is soon to move to the playing phase in his comeback process, Times of India reported. The report also says that the left-hander didn't have multiple surgeries as expected before, but was monitored every fortnight to note the development and progress.

With Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 fanfare being over, India now move on to the next task in hand, which happens to be the World Test Championship (WTC) Final from June 7 against Australia in England. The Indian players who are part of the WTC squad and played in the IPL would now have to switch back to Test cricket from T20 in a jiffy as there's not much time left.

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also thinks the same and said in an interaction with the sports broadcaster Star Sport that switching back to Test mode would be the biggest challenge for the Indian players.

The former India cricketer also backed middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane to come good in English conditions. Notably, Rahane was included in the WTC squad partly on the back of his spectacular form in the recently-concluded IPL for eventual winner Chennai Super Kings.

"He's got a lot of experience playing in England, having scored run in England. So, yes, I think he's going to be crucial down at number 5. And yes, I do believe has a point to prove, I still feel he's got plenty of cricket left in him, and this is a wonderful opportunity for him. I'm hoping he will be able to grab this opportunity and with all the experience that he has and make a place for him back in the Indian team," Gavaskar said.

He said, citing logistics issues, the BCCI had said, "Colombo or nothing." The SLC official also added that they ‘will go with the BCCI. While it remains unclear what is the status of PCB chief Najam Sethi on this, who earlier had opposed the idea of BCCI dictating terms on the multi-team events, and even threatened that Pakistan would boycott the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India if Asia Cup rights snatched. In the major development regarding the future of Asia Cup 2023, the BCCI will come up with an announcement on the sidelines of the IPL 2023 final on May 28th in Ahmedabad.

As per reports, the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has invited presidents of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan Cricket Boards for the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Following an informal discussion, an announcement related to the same will be made, according to reports.

"The respective presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will grace the Tata IPL 2023 final to be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We will hold discussions with them for outlining the future course of action in relation to Asia Cup 2023," Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi had proposed a hybrid model for Asia Cup 2023. As per his proposal, PCB - the hosts of the tournament this year- will host four matches in the country, while the remaining games will take place in the UAE. Replying to this, Shah played down the idea.

While the hot temperature in the UAE in September is one of the reasons why BCCI, alongside other members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) barring PCB, had shown reluctance to play there, the Indian board had kept Sri Lanka as an option.&nbsp;

However, as per the report, even during the ongoing IPL 2023, an official from the UAE cricket board was in India to discuss exploring the possibility of hosting the Asia Cup in the Gulf; but that didn't go the way they wanted either.&nbsp;

Also, going by the reports, the ACC members had a backdoor discussion recently, where all parties concerned have agreed to reach a mutually acceptable decision.

Earlier, there were reports in Pakistan that following two and fro, the BCCI has somewhat agreed to Pakistan's latest hybrid model. But it remains to be seen, amid all such talks, what decision BCCI will take.

Considering PCB has threatened to boycott the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India later this year on several occasions lately, BCCI's final call will have large implications going forward.

As per reports, the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has invited presidents of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan Cricket Boards for the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Following an informal discussion, an announcement related to the same will be made, according to reports. "The respective presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will grace the Tata IPL 2023 final to be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We will hold discussions with them for outlining the future course of action in relation to Asia Cup 2023," Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), said, as quoted by Cricbuzz. As per his proposal, PCB - the hosts of the tournament this year- will host four matches in the country, while the remaining games will take place in the UAE. Replying to this, Shah played down the idea. While the hot temperature in the UAE in September is one of the reasons why BCCI, alongside other members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) barring PCB, had shown reluctance to play there, the Indian board had kept Sri Lanka as an option. However, as per the report, even during the ongoing IPL 2023, an official from the UAE cricket board was in India to discuss exploring the possibility of hosting the Asia Cup in the Gulf; but that didn't go the way they wanted either. Also, going by the reports, the ACC members had a backdoor discussion recently, where all parties concerned have agreed to reach a mutually acceptable decision. Earlier, there were reports in Pakistan that following two and fro, the BCCI has somewhat agreed to Pakistan's latest hybrid model. But it remains to be seen, amid all such talks, what decision BCCI will take. Considering PCB has threatened to boycott the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India later this year on several occasions lately, BCCI's final call will have large implications going forward. India, however, asked for a written assurance from the PCB for their participation in the ICC ODI World Cup in India. In response to India's demand, Pakistan has said that they would also ask for a written guarantee from India to participate in 2025 Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, as for the Asia Cup, Pakistan has said that it will not be blackmailed by the BCCI over participation in ODI WC and they'll travel only if their own government allows them to. The Pakistan board also said that the BCCI cannot put forth the condition of Men In Green playing in ODI WC in turn for playing in the Asia Cup, said sources.

BCCI, on the other hand, will be holding a Special General Meeting (SGM) to decided on the issue of playing Asia Cup with a hybrid model in place.

As things stand, neither the venues nor the schedule for the ODI World Cup is finalised, but progress could be made after the SGM on May 27. It is expected that 12 venues could be in use for the ODI World Cup, according to a report published by Cricbuzz. The report also adds Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium will be used for the final on November 19 (tentative date).&nbsp;

Other venues on the agenda will include Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium, Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, Kolkata's Eden Gardens, and Bangalore's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

"Formation of Infrastructure Development and Subsidy Sub-Committee; Guidelines for appointment of Physiotherapists and Trainers in state teams and Ratification of Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy" are the other items on the May 27 meeting.

Other things on the agenda will be the formation of a committee for the ODI World Cup and the Women's Premier League (WPL). The WPL enjoyed great success in its inaugural season, while the World Cup committee will look after the administration of the showpiece event in India.
