Delhi Capitals managed to get some of their targets for reasonable prices and refrained from spending too much on big players. However, the franchise had to let go of some of their former stars, who they failed to get back at the mega auction.

Delhi Capitals had to let go of their former captain Shreyas Iyer and the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada and R Ashwin in the very first set of players that went under the hammer at the mega auction on Saturday. However, DC did manage to make some brilliant signings in the form of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh.

While Delhi Capitals got Warner for a sum of Rs 6.25 crore (INR 62.5 million), they had to shell out Rs 6.5 crore (INR 65 million) for the services of Marsh. Delhi Capitals then went on to make some shrewd&nbsp;signings as they roped in the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Kuldeep Yadav and KS Bharat for Rs 2 crore (INR 20 million) each.

However, Delhi Capitals missed out on another important former player later in the day as Indian pacer Avesh Khan triggered a bidding war at the mega auction. A number of teams jumped in the battle for Avesh, who was the second-highest wicket-taker of IPL 2021 with 24 wickets in 16 matches.

Though Delhi Capitals were interested in getting the Indian pacer back, they were outdone by the other franchises. Lucknow Super Giants eventually managed to get Avesh for a whopping sum of Rs 10 crore (INR 100 million). Delhi Capitals co-owner revealed Avesh was one player captain Rishabh Pant wanted the team to buy back at the auction.

Jindal said he was quite happy with the work done by the team on day one of the IPL 2022 mega auction. However, he revealed Pant really wanted Avesh, who went out of the team's budget during the bidding war.

"Yeah, I think, very satisfied [how the squad has shaped up till now]. I think we have a very good balance. We filled up most of our starting XI spots, we have a little bit of work to do going into tomorrow especially in the back-ups and making sure that we have a very good and solid squad. But overall I think we have some really really sensational players to compliment the four retained players," Jindal said talking to DCTV.

"I have been in touch with Rishabh, he is also really happy with most of the squad. Although he did really want Avesh Khan, we tried but again it went way beyond our budget but I think we have a very good squad that can challenge for the playoffs and hopefully go better," he added.

The right-arm pacer recently earned his maiden call-up in the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies at home. Avesh thanked Potning for always backing him during his time with Delhi Capitals and revealed the former Australia captain always told him that he would play for India one day.

Avesh was part of the India U-19 team during the 2016 U-19 World Cup. He was later picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore and made his IPL debut in 2017. Delhi Capitals' fast bowler&nbsp;Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers in his team's seven-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021 in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. The 24-year-old, who returned with figures of 2/23, helped the Delhi franchise restrict CSK to 188/7 in their 20 overs before the Delhi Capitals chased their target in 18.4 overs. The speedster was particularly thrilled about taking the big wicket of MS Dhoni.

"Three years ago, I had a chance to take Mahi bhai's wicket, but somebody had dropped the catch. But now my dream of taking Mahi bhai's wicket is fulfilled, so I am very happy about it. Since he has not played competitive matches for some time, we had planned to put pressure on him and because of that pressure I could take his wicket," said Avesh.

The fast bowler said that the Delhi Capitals will have to maintain the momentum they have attained after winning their first match of the competition, "I was quite happy with my performance in our first match, and I am even more happy because the team has won. I put the team in a good position with the wickets of Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) and Faf du Plessis. I was happy with the way I carried out the role given to me by the team management. After winning the first match, everyone's confidence goes up. Now, we have to maintain the momentum."

Avesh added that&nbsp;Faf du Plessis' wicket helped him get into a good rhythm, "Rishabh backed me and gave me the second over of the match and I took a wicket in that over itself. A wicket in the initial part of a fast bowler's spell is really good for his rhythm. Du Plessis is a good batsman and if he continued to play, then he would've made things difficult for us."

The 24-year-old expressed that he hired a dietician ahead of the IPL 2021 to improve his fitness, "I have reduced my weight by 5 kg. I have hired a personal dietician and I plan my diet according to the dietician's directions. My diet plan changes on a day-to-day basis, depending on my gym and training sessions and rest days. Improving my fitness has helped me a lot. I am feeling light, and I feel great when I run. I had to sacrifice some of my favourite dishes for 20-25 days, but that has helped me to stay on track for achieving some of my personal goals."

While speaking about the fast-bowling prowess of the Delhi Capitals, Avesh said that the Delhi franchise has the best fast bowling line-up in the IPL.

Fast-medium bowlers Shivam Mavi and Avesh Khan play for Kolkata and Delhi respectively. Both the players made inappropriate remarks towards batsmen&nbsp;during Delhi-Kolkata match on Friday and&nbsp;have been reprimanded by the match referee.

An IPL media release stated, "Both Mr. Mavi and Mr. Khan admitted to the Level 1 offence under 2.1.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials and accepted the sanctions."

For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the match referee's decision is final and binding.

The players are reprimanded for showing a disrespectful attitude while sending-off the batsmen after taking wickets.

The incidents happened on Friday, April 27 during the Delhi-Kolkata clash at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.

Shivam Mavi of Kolkata disrespected Colin Munro and said some derogatory words while celebrating the dismissal of the batsman.
