India bowler Mohammed Siraj put on a sensational display of bowling in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka on Friday, September 17, taking four wickets in an over. Siraj is the first Indian bowler to take four wickets in one over of an ODI game. The match started a bit late due to rain delay but once it did, Siraj made sure that India were on top.

Siraj bowled his first over a maiden but ripped apart Sri Lanka's top-order in his next and innings' fourth over. By the time Siraj was done bowling his second over, half of Lankan side was back in pavilion for a mere 12 runs.&nbsp;

The decision to bat first after winning the toss clearly didn't do the host any good as they lost the first wicket on the third ball of the innings to Jasprit Bumrah. But it was Siraj's second over of the spell which wreaked the real havoc. Here's how the over went:

3.1: WICKET! Siraj bowls a length ball outside off to Pathum Nissanka who hit it directly to Ravindra Jadeja's throat at point.

3.2: Siraj to Sadeera Samarawickrama, no run.

3.3: WICKET! Siraj bowls another length ball which comes in and traps Sadeera LBW. The umpire gave it out immediately but the batsman reviewed it only to burn the review.

He eventually finished with figures of 6/21 in seven overs as Sri Lanka were all-out for 50 in 15.2 overs. Apart from him, Hardik Pandya took three wickets for three runs in 2.2 overs and Bumrah took 1/23 in five.

For Sri Lanka, Kusal Mendis top scored with 17 runs while&nbsp;Dushan Hemantha scored 13. No other batsman apart from these two could reach double figures.

Pakistan cricket is getting mired in all sorts of controversies ahead of the ODI World Cup which scheduled to start next month on October 5. While Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been criticised for his captaincy during the Asia Cup, there have been reports of rift between him and players as well after Men in Green crashed out after losing to Sri Lanka.

Asia Cup: Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi involved in heated argument after SL defeat in Super Four stage - Reports

India batsman Shubman Gill accepted that he should have taken India home against Bangladesh in Asia Cup Super Four game on September 15. The opening batsman scored a magnificent 121 off 131 balls - his first century in Asia Cup (ODI format) but fell 57 runs short of 266-run target.

The game, however, had no effect on standings as India had already made it to the final by winning games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka while Bangladesh were already out of contention. A raucous home crowd rejoiced but the result broke the heart of millions of fans awaiting an India-Pakistan final in the 50-over tournament, a prelude to the upcoming ODI World Cup.

The left-handed Asalanka held his nerve despite Shaheen Shah Afridi's two wickets in two balls in the penultimate over and the first four balls from Zaman Khan giving away just two runs and a wicket in the 42nd over.

Mendis set up victory with a 100-run third-wicket stand with Sadeera Samarawickrama, who made 48, but Asalanka took it on himself after their departure.

Off-spinner Iftikhar Ahmed took three key wickets including Mendis and Samarawickrama to keep the game in the balance till the last.

Earlier Mohammad Rizwan hit an unbeaten 86 to steer Pakistan to 252-7 after they elected to bat first in the rain-delayed start to the match.

Sri Lanka's bowlers took regular early wickets to check Pakistan's scoring, but Rizwan hit back with his 12th ODI half-century and a 108-run stand with Iftikhar, who made 47.

Fast bowler Pramod Madushan struck first as he bowled Fakhar Zaman for four with a yorker that raised the decibels in the ground.

Azam looked to be getting into his groove with a few boundaries but was stumped off Wellalage, a left-arm spinner who was Sri Lanka's star in their previous loss to India with 5-40.

Shafique stood strong and hit two sixes en route to his maiden ODI fifty but soon fell to fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana, who quickly struck again.

Pakistan returned from a rain break on 130-5 with Rizwan digging deep and he got support from Iftikhar, who took his time to get his rhythm and hit two sixes in his 40-ball knock.

Pathirana sent back Iftikhar for his third wicket and Madushan took one more scalp of his own late on, but Rizwan remained unbeaten and finished with a boundary.

Sri Lanka played better cricket: Captain Babar Azam on Pakistan's Asia Cup 2023 elimination

Sri Lanka spinner Dunith Wellalage delivered one of the most memorable performances of the Asia Cup 2023 on September 12 &nbsp;against India. The left-arm bowler not only took a five-wicket haul but also scored 42 not out to give India a scare during the chase as well. The spinner also got the well-deserved Player of the Match award for his performance.

Wellalage, who took the wickets of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya, called Kohli the number-one batsman and said he was happy to dismiss both Kohli and Rohit.

“For me, Virat Kohli is the No. 1 batsman. I am very happy to have got those two (Kohli and Rohit) big wickets. I trust my basics, and trust myself,” said Wellalage at the post-match press conference.

“There was turn and when you put the ball in the right area, you could unsettle the batsmen. But I would have been happier with a win,” said Wellalage.

Chasing 214, Sri Lanka were six down for 99 before Wellalage shared a crucial 63-run partnership with Dhananjaya de Silva to revive Lankan fans' hope. While the dream of a win couldn't materialise, the partnership did give India a scare.

“I just tried to support him (de Silva). We didn’t want to take any risks. His plan was to try and get closer to India’s total,” Wellalage said.

Sri Lanka will now be playing against Pakistan on September 14 in a virtual semi-final for a place in the title clash against India and Wellalage is hopeful of a Lankan win.

“We have played four matches so far and we are happy that we have won three of them. The larger picture is that we have got one more game remaining.

“We still have a chance to make it to the finals, and hopefully we will pull it off,” he added.

Pakistan pace bowler Naseem Shah has been ruled out of the remainder of the Asia Cup 2023 with a shoulder injury. The fast bowler had injured his shoulder in Super Four clash against India on September 11 towards the end of India's innings. In case rain plays spoilsport in the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka game and the match is abandoned, host Sri Lanka will go through the final.

Mushfiqur has been one of the few bright spots in Bangladesh's otherwise poor Asia Cup campaign where they won a solitary game against Afghanistan in the group stage and lost twice to Sri Lanka &amp; once to Pakistan.

"It's been over one and a half years since I had surgery," Kuldeep said after the win. "The run-up has become straighter. The rhythm has become aggressive. The approach is nice. Maybe my hand used to fall over but that is well in control and faces the batter more.

"At the same time, I did not lose my spin and drift, and my pace increased - all of which helped me. If a leg-spinner lands the ball on a good length, there are more chances of [him] picking up a wicket. If you are a leg-spinner, you tend to bowl a lot of loose balls but if you become consistent, you can succeed."

It was a complete game from the Indians' point of view ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup. They ticked all the boxes with the bat as the top four scored a fifty+ score against a lethal Pakistan attack. Virat Kohli also showed why he's considered the greatest of all time after he hit his fourth consecutive century in Colombo and 47th overall in ODIs.
