<p>Super Cassettes Industries Private Limited (T-Series), Supersonic Technobuild Private Limited (Maddock Films, Cape of Good Films LLP, and others), Bayview Projects LLP (backed by Boney Kapoor and others), and 4 Lions Films Private Limited (backed by filmmaker K C Bokadia and others) presented their proposals to officials of the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday.</p>

<p>The high-profile event, chaired by UP Industrial and Infrastructure Development Commissioner Manoj Kumar Singh, saw virtual participation from Akshay Kumar, part of Supersonic Technobuild, and physical presence from Boney Kapoor, associated with Bayview Projects, among others.</p>

<p>"All four bidders have qualified on technical grounds, and now, the financial bid for the International Film City concessionaire or developer will be opened on January 30 at 2.30 pm," said project's OSD Shailendra Bhatia.</p>

<p>The greenfield project, envisioned on a public-private partnership (PPP) model, will be awarded to the company offering the highest revenue share to the state government. After the financial bid is opened, the selected concessionaire's proposal will be sent to the state government for approval. <p>The bid, initiated on September 30, 2023, attracted bids until January 5, 2024, marking the third attempt after two previous rounds failed to attract investors. <p>A source told the publication, "Akshay Kumar has informed the organisers about his prior commitment with the film's producers, and due to the ongoing combination shoot, he may not be able to attend the event."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Akshay shared a video from the sets of his forthcoming film, hinting that he is busy shooting with Tiger Shroff and may not be able to attend the consecration ceremony.</p>

<p>Hindi film actors Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar have been served notices by an Indian government agency over their appearance in an advertisement endorsing tobacco companies.</p>

<p>A petition was filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court against these Bollywood celebrities for participating in advertisements which promoted products that are harmful to the health of the public at large.</p>

<p>The central government informed the court on Friday (Dec 8) that the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued the notices and asked the court to dismiss the petition as the matter is also being heard by the Supreme Court.</p>

<p>A bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan had earlier directed the central government to decide the representation of the petitioner, who had originally contended that action should be taken against the actors and dignitaries who were given high-profile awards but were advertising for 'gutka' companies.</p>

<h2><strong>Petitioner approached court after govt inaction&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The petitioner argued that a&nbsp;representation was made to the government on October 22, but no action was taken in the matter.</p>

<p>In response to the petition, the high court issued notice to the Cabinet Secretary of the central government.</p>

<p>Following this, on Friday, Deputy Solicitor General SB Pandey informed the High Court that the Centre had issued showcause notices to Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, and Ajay Devgn.</p>

<p>The court was also informed that Amitabh Bachchan had sent a legal notice to a 'gutka' company, which was showing his advertisement despite the fact that he had already cancelled his contract with it, PTI news agency reported.</p>

The film, based on the story of unsung hero Jaswant Singh Gill, has been receiving an extraordinary word of mouth publicity from audiences who were taken on a thrilling and emotional journey into the life of the Indian engineer's passionate effort to rescue 65 coal mine workers.&nbsp;</p>

At the time of the accident, 232 miners were working the night shift on November 13, 1989. They were tasked to excavate coal through explosions inside the 320-foot-deep mine.&nbsp;<br />

At around 4 a.m., there was a sudden influx of water, and the mine got flooded. The 161 miners who were near the two lifts in the pit were rescued immediately, but 71 of them were far off and couldn’t reach the lift due to the water.</p>

<p>Fortunately, there was a telephone connection between the borehole and the surface, through which a message was sent that 65 miners had taken shelter at a rise part of the pit, but six of them had gone missing.</p>

Senior engineer Jasawant Gill led one of the teams formed for rescue operations. Gill came up with the idea of extracting the stranded miners through a capsule injected inside a dead hole.&nbsp;</p>

The steel capsule was constructed in 72 hours and after a few trial runs up and down the borehole, rescue of men began on November 16 at 2.30 am. Gill insisted on going into the capsule himself to bring out the trapped men.&nbsp;<br />

There was initial opposition from senior officers of Coal India over Gill going down the pit but he did enter the capsule and brought out all of the 65 men one by one by 8:30 am. Initially, it took 15 minutes for one round trip of the capsule. A 12-tonne crane was put into service later on for lowering and raising the capsule and this reduced the cycle time to just 3 minutes.</p>

<p>The supervisor/manager of the site is a nervous man but summons his dependable aide Jaswant Singh (Akshay Kumar) to carry out an effective rescue operation.</p>

<p>The operation is not the easiest. Jaswant faces multiple hurdles. From jealous coworkers who want to sabotage his mission even before it begins to a lack of time as water levels rise dangerously high inside the coalfield to lack of information on how grave the situation is down there to structural problems related to lack of proper equipment drill holes for a rescue operation- Jaswant&nbsp;has to fight several odds.</p>

The film is a little over 2 hours long and the narrative solely concentrates on the daunting rescue mission that Jaswant&nbsp;and his team embark on. And while Jaswant&nbsp;is shown playing the unassuming hero, devising a rescue operation on land, the narrative also shows the plight of the miners down under who, unable to contact anyone on land are unsure if they would even survive or remain trapped forever there. Actors Sudhir Pandey, Jamil Khan, Ravi Kishan, and Varun Badola play miners in the film- each playing their part well- each rising up to the occasion when there is a need -helping their fellow miners to survive as they wait for help to arrive.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is a pacy narrative and one that keeps you hooked mostly with makers keeping the parallel plots to the minimum. Of course, Jaswant's familial life is shown amid the rescue operation, how he keeps a check on his pregnant wife (Parineeti Chopra) amid the rescue operation, some of the miners'&nbsp;families too are shown, and the rivalry between the manager of the mines (Kumud Mishra) and his immediate subordinate too is highlighted, but all these stories are weaved into the main plot.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What does not</strong></p>

<p>While the film is thrilling, it does have a very shoddy VFX and over-the-top background score. In fact, most of the characters seem very dramatic and the reactions and emotions of each of the characters are amplified to a great extent just to evoke emotions. Except for Akshay Kumar, most overdo their roles. And to have credible actors like Kumud Mishra, Arif Zakaria, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and Rajesh Kumar play their roles in an exaggerated manner is no mean feat but filmmaker Desai does just that. The result is a screechy 2-hour film that is high on thrills as well as theatrics.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Akshay Kumar and director Tinu Suresh Desai have made a film based on a real-life incident before.<em> Rustom</em> was a fictional account of the Nanavati Scandal, and terribly melodramatic. The film though fetched Kumar a National Award that year ( a decision that is debatable). The good news is that <em>Mission Raniganj </em>is not a cringe-fest like <em>Rustom</em> was. The other good news is that if you liked Kumar in <em>Rustom</em>, then you will also like <em>Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue.</em> It ticks mostly all the boxes that make for a good survival thriller, but I really wish they had toned down the theatrics a few decibels. It is ultimately an ode to Jaswant&nbsp;Singh aka Capsule Singh and his heroic act that helped save so many miners. The film is truly inspirational and celebrates humanity.&nbsp;<em>Mission Raniganj&nbsp;</em>releases&nbsp;in theatres on October 6.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Akshay Kumar is back with yet another patriotic film. Kumar is one of the busiest Bollywood actors, with several&nbsp;projects in his bag. The actor was last seen in <em>OMG 2</em> alongside Pankaj Tripathi. Released on August 11, the film performed well at the box office. And, currently, the actor is gearing up for his next release, <em>Mission Raniganj</em>. Amidst this, Akshay has announced his next project, titled <em>Sky Force.</em></p>

<p>Marking the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and former Indian prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Akshay announced his upcoming film with a teaser and a release date. Set in the 1965 India-Pakistan Air War, when Laal Bahadur Shastri was the PM of India, the movie will tell the untold story of India's first and deadliest airstrike.</p>

<p>Akshay Kumar, the Khiladi of Bollywood, has turned 56. Today, it's inevitable to ponder the intriguing twist his career took after he embraced the wave of nationalism. While acknowledging his versatility as an actor, one can't help but wonder if he should have adhered to his strength — comedy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Picture this: It's the late '90s and early 2000s, and Akshay is the undisputed king of comedy in Bollywood. Okay, maybe not the king, but one of the kings, anyway. From <em>Hera Pheri</em> to <em>Mujhse Shaadi Karogi</em>, he had us in splits with his impeccable timing and hilarious antics. Unlike other top stars, he was not afraid to look like a fool in his films. For quite some time, he was the go-to guy for those feel-good, light-hearted entertainers coming from directors like Priyadarshan. Everyone loved his goofy charm, and there was no doubt that comedy, and not action as it was previously believed, was his forte.</p>

<h2>When Akshay Kumar rode the nationalism wave</h2>

<p>But then came a twist in the tale. Somewhere around the mid-2010s, Akshay decided to don the mantle of a patriotic Indian. He began starring in films like <em>Baby</em>, <em>Airlift</em>, and <em>Kesari</em>, where he portrayed the valiant Indian hero ready to rescue the nation from every conceivable crisis using whatever means possible. It was as if he had traded in his comic timing for a tricolour superhero cape.</p>

<p>Now, there's nothing wrong with making films about patriotism, but it seemed like Akshay was trying a bit too hard to be the poster boy for all things nationalist. Also, the thing with riding a wave like this is it will only take you so far. These waves die just as quickly as they rise.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Also, it's not that Akshay's patriotic films were bad; in fact, some of them were well-made, and comedy or not, it must be admitted that Akshay is a pretty great actor. Often, he alone made them worth watching. But there was a certain charm and magic in his comedy that was missing in these roles.&nbsp;</p>

He went from making us laugh uncontrollably to making us feel patriotic, which isn't a bad thing, but it's not what we expected from him. Despite the tough competition from Sunny Deol's <em>Gadar 2 </em>and Rajinikanth's <em>Jailer</em>, the film continues to earn good numbers at the box office and is now inching towards the Rs 100 crore mark (Rs 1 billion).</p>

<p>Amid this, a lot of rumours have started doing the rounds related to the movie's budget, which many claimed was around Rs 150 crore. However, producer Ajit&nbsp;Andhare has come forward to put a stop to all that.</p>

<p>Ajit, COO of Viacom 18, told Pinkvilla website that Akshay Kumar did not charge a single penny for the film.</p>

But my preconceived notions were shattered within the first few moments of <em>OMG 2.</em> And this is coming from somebody who was only mildly impressed by the first film. The surprise wasn't the film's ability to challenge societal norms and shed light on a topic as crucial as sex education. The surprise to me was how skillful and candid the handling of the said topic was.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To make the need of sex education more digestible for the general audience, I suspect, our protagonist Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi) was not written as an atheist (like Paresh Rawal's Kanjibhai was in the original). I am not a believer in anything divine or supernatural, but I duly appreciate the writer-director Amit Rai's efforts here. Why? Because in a country like India, it was certainly crucial for the character's faith and devotion to be a driving force for change without alienating viewers with differing beliefs. When clothed in the garb of religion, most individuals can be persuaded towards any idea, whether good or bad.</p>

The video goes viral over the internet and eventually reaches the school authorities. Instead of finding out how somebody was filmed inside a locked toilet, the higher-ups decide to pull up the kid and his father instead.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In case it wasn't clear already, yes. <em>OMG 2</em> is a lot of fun. It manages to strike a nice and delicate balance between dealing with a serious issue (sex education) and delivering moments of genuine laughter and heartfelt emotions.</p>

<p>Pankaj Tripathi is reliably excellent, and so is Kumar (this might be a radical idea, but he should do more comedy again), but the film is peppered with a number of outstanding character actors in supporting roles. Pavan Malhotra shines as Judge Purushottam Nagar presiding over the case. Initially sceptical and even unfriendly towards Kanti, he learns to respect the determination of the man. His struggles with Kanti's "shuddh", or pure, Hindi are played for some nice humour as his assistant tries to explain what the man is saying non-verbally.<br />

Brijendra Kala plays a sex therapist in a rather small role and leaves a significant impact. His character keeps inventive contraptions in his clinic that are built by doing unspeakable things to balloons and are used to explain sexual concepts and even acts to his patients. Having grown accustomed to startling and flustering his visitors with his unabashed honesty, he responds with serene acceptance when in a scene early on in the movie, a man splashes tea on him after being told his wife probably cheated on him.</p>

<p>The humour in the film is all-around superb, actually, and it does not come at the expense of Vivek's dignity or the film's central themes. It does, however, come at the expense of those who would shame a child for natural curiosity about his burgeoning sexuality. It also comes at the expense of the absurdity of societal double standards and the hypocrisy that often accompanies discussions about sex in India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the course of his research, Kanti discovers that the Hindu religion boasts a rich tradition of embracing openness when it comes to matters of sex and sexuality, with texts even hinting at the presence of sexual education practices in ancient India. It was only when the British colonialists arrived and imposed Victorian morality upon Indians that they become such Puritans related to sex.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is, of course, an extremely simplistic explanation of Indian prudery. At best, it urges us to improve our outlook. At worst, it encourages the notion that&nbsp;our pristine religious traditions were polluted exclusively by outsiders, which somebody with even a remote knowledge of history would tell you is simply not true.</p>

<p>But if this explanation, however devoid of nuance, effectively nudges viewers to reevaluate their outlook on tradition and modernity, I'd consider it a win. The only egregious crime of the movie, in my opinion, is to take a totally concocted piece of text and falsely attribute it to one Thomas Babington Macaulay like a social media troll. Yes, the same one where the guy is shown explaining how India is so prosperous and arguing to replace the Indian education system with English (or some such).</p>

<p>Those minor concerns aside, <em>OMG 2</em> is a film that for me defied expectations. It is an engaging, thought-provoking, and endlessly funny film. It is also an important film in a society that continues to grapple with essential conversations about education, morality, and tradition.</p>

OMG 2 review: Pankaj Tripathi, Akshay Kumar deliver laughs with a purposeful punch

<p>Currently, there is a showdown happening at the Indian box office between two follow-up films of popular originals, namely <em>Gadar 2 </em>and <em>OMG 2.</em> The victor has emerged quite clearly. <em>Gadar 2, </em>featuring Sunny Deol, achieved an impressive milestone by amassing a notable sum of Rs 38.70 crore on Monday alone, which has propelled its overall earnings to Rs 173.58 crore. Anticipations are high that the movie will capitalise on the Independence Day holiday (celebrated on August 15 every year in India, marking its liberation from British rule) and potentially surpass its initial day's gains. What is Gadar 2 all about? The Anil Sharma directorial brings back Sunny Deol in the role of Tara Singh from 2001's Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Ameesha Patel also returns as Sakeena, Tara's love interest and now his wife. Utkarsh Sharma also reprises the role of Charanjeet "Jeete" Singh, the son of Tara and Sakeena. Like the original, this one has also been penned by Shaktimaan Talwar. While the original was set during the Partition of India, which was the cause of immense bloodshed, the sequel is set during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, which resulted in the birth of Bangladesh as a nation. He sues all the people who are behind the current mental state of his son. OMG 2 review WION's Kshitij Rawat wrote about OMG 2, "OMG 2 is a lot of fun. It manages to strike a nice and delicate balance between dealing with a serious issue (sex education) and delivering moments of genuine laughter and heartfelt emotions. Tripathi is reliably excellent, and so is Kumar (this might be a radical idea, but he should do more comedy again), but the film is peppered with a number of outstanding character actors in supporting roles. Pavan Malhotra shines as Judge Purushottam Nagar presiding over the case. Initially sceptical and even unfriendly towards Kanti, he learns to respect the determination of the man. His struggles with Kanti's "shuddh" or pure Hindi are played for some nice humour as his assistant tries to explain what the man is saying non-verbally."
