<p>This is the first in the series of homes that are being planned in other Indian cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore.</p>

<p>Tamil Nadu has had a vibrant transgender community where many are employed as lawyers, police officers, doctors, television personalities etc. However, when it comes to shelter there aren’t many facilities available to them. “We usually hire rooms on a rental basis and there are time restrictions as well. While there are a few homes provided by the government for our community, they are relatively small and house the elderly transgender people and also serve as learning centres for the younger members of the community. But our new home will have three buildings and can accommodate over 150 members. We will be having the bhumi-puja and foundation stone laying within 20 days and hope to have it ready for occupation within a year” Jaya, a transwoman and General manager of Sahodaran, an NGO that works for the LGBTQ community, told WION.</p>

<p>The home is aimed at supporting the teenagers who are ostracised from society and shunned from their own homes after their sexual identity is revealed. “During our youth, we found it very difficult to find a place to stay, we couldn’t continue our studies and were often misled. For the coming generations, a home like this would make a huge difference and can prepare them for the challenges of life. Not only can they continue their education, but they can also be imparted skills such as dance, handicrafts, sketching etc. They can stay at home until they feel they can live independently. We intend to make it open to transgenders from across India” said Renuka Devi from Snehidhi, an organization that works for the community.</p>

<p>The home is not just meant to include transgenders, but would also have two additional buildings for children and the differently-abled, who would be cared for by the transgenders. “We transgenders can't have children but will raise them there and take care of them like our own. This would be the first of its kind facility, where we would be able to take care of children and the differently-abled. We would be able to live a peaceful life here as there are no fixed limits to how long we can be here. Most homes have a limit of three months, but here we allow people to stay until they feel they can sustain on their own” Priyanka, a transwoman and cultural team leader at Sahodaran told WION.</p>

<p>The idea of the home had come up during a discussion between Tamil Actor Raghava Lawrence and Bollywood Actor Akshay Kumar during the filming of Laxmmi Bomb. Lawrence was speaking to Kumar on his Charitable Trust that has been initiating various projects for education, home for kids and the differently-abled.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Our trust is now entering into its 15th year. So during Laxmmi Bomb shoot I was talking to Akshay Kumar sir about the trust projects and transgender’s home, immediately after hearing this without even me asking he told he will donate 1.5 cores for building transgender’s home” Lawrence who is directing the Akshay Kumar-starrer, posted on Facebook.</p>

<p>“Ever since his film Kanchana, actor Raghava Lawrence has interacted with the transgender community and his perception has changed. Lawrence offering us the land and Akshay Kumar helping with the funds for construction is the largesse and kind-heartedness of a group of people who believe in our work. When our people went to meet Akshay Kumar in Mumbai, they just wanted to express the challenges faced by the community, but he handed a cheque without batting an eyelid. Full credit to Raghava Lawrence for helping the transgender community and also reaching out to Akshay Kumar to get the work going in full swing” Sunil Menon, the founder of Sahodaran told WION.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Akshay Kumar who is busy with promotions of his upcoming film ‘Good Newwz’ with Diljit Dosanjh, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani went for Kapil Sharma’s chat show. When he returned from there, he got wife Twinkle a beautiful set of earrings but there’s a twist. The earrings were not just any pair as it was made of onions, the price of which has been skyrocketing for a few months now with exports being stopped and the government trying measures to cap the prices as it comes under essential commodities for the common man.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Twinkle, being her casual self on the internet, shared a picture of the earrings on her social media feed. She captioned it, “My partner returns from performing at the Kapil Sharma show and says, ‘They were showing this to Kareena, I don’t think she was too impressed, but I knew you would enjoy them so I got them for you.’ Sometimes it’s the smallest things, the silliest things that can touch your heart.”</p>

His latest, '2.0' starring two giants of Indian cinema, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar is everything that you had thought it would be - going by its trailer- and a lot more.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One expects Rajinikanth's films to be larger than life, sometimes even a tad ridiculous, but '2.0' attempts to not just be an out and out commercial film, but also give a commentary on today's times where we all are so depended on our smartphones.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film picks up from where 'Enthiran' or 'Robot' ended. Genius scientist Vaseegaran(Rajini) has put the evil Chitti in the museum after he created mayhem on the streets of Chennai a few years back. He now has a humanoid assistant called Nila (Amy Jackson) who is more attuned to human emotions and helps Vaseegaran with his day to day work.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Vaseegaran though is compelled to bring back Chitti or rather reboot him when a peculiar crisis grips the city of Chennai. Cellphones from the entire city start disappearing from the city. As authorities scratch their head wondering who is stealing the entire city's mode of communication, a few prominent leaders and businessman get killed. The government is left with no choice but to bring back Chitti to help them solve the case.&nbsp;</p>

<p>'2.0' has its usual trappings. Some of the plot points do not really make sense and there are certain scenes which are utterly ridiculous and reserved simply for entertainment purpose. But at its core, the film is a social commentary on our over-dependence on technology and how we as a race are heading towards a colossal disaster.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Among the actors, Rajinikanth is, naturally, omnipresent. He plays not one or two but technically four characters. A good and an evil version of Vaseegaran, then 2.0 version of Chitti and also a 3.0 version. The actor owns every scene he is in but interestingly gives ample screen time to the other star of the film, Akshay Kumar. Kumar's character is shown at the end of first half, but he gets a backstory (in the second half) which explains audience the reason why he became the antagonist and how he transformed into a birdman or as he is called Pakshi Raj. Credit to Shankar, who is also the writer of the film, to give Kumar such a prominent role in a Rajini film.&nbsp;</p>

The usage of cell phones to create a humungous monster is very well done and helps one understand the magnanimity of the situation. The plot is basic, there are times where you find yourself laughing out loud at the illogical things, but ultimately VFX saves the day, creating an unbelievable yet awe-inspiring world.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One such story of valour is the historic battle of Saragarhi, fought in 1897&nbsp;in the North-West Frontier Province (now in Pakistan) and in which 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army chose to stay and fight a 10,000-strong Pashtun army and stall them from capturing key army posts in the area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Filmmaker Anurag Singh's 'Kesari', <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/akshay-kumar-i-dont-want-to-join-politics-just-want-to-make-good-films-204364">starring Akshay Kumar</a>, is based on that historic battle. Kumar plays Havildar Ishar Singh, the leader of the group that decides to fight the Pashtuns despite a limited arsenal and no support from their army.</p>

<p>Saragarhi was an army communication post situated between two important forts — Lockhart and Gulistan. And since it was primarily a communications post, it had a limited number of soldiers stationed there. The Sikh soldiers, however, decide to stand and fight, to the death, instead of escaping.</p>

<p>Now, not much is taught about this battle in the history books. While the tale is well known in Punjab and the 21 soldiers and their act of bravery is referred to to date, only a handful know about it outside of the state. <p>A war film based on real-life incidents is almost always predictable. You usually know the tale will end with the supreme sacrifice so, ultimately, it is how the story is narrated that matters.</p>

<p>To its credit, Kesari makes for a compelling watch; with a nuanced screenplay, good production design, and solid performances by the actors, the heroic tale absolutely immerses you into that era.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Akshay Kumar, who leads the pack, gives a powerful performance as the fierce, brave and yet kind Ishar Singh who is aware of the impending doom marching upon him and his men and still chooses to fight.</p>

<p>Shot beautifully by Anshul Chobey with perfect production design by Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Ray, the look and feel of the film are just right, taking you right into the tough terrain of the North-West Frontier Province. The CGI is good, making the ambience and war scenes look realistic. The action stunts are well thought out, giving the actors, including Kumar, ample room to perform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A war film can get a bit monotonous with constant battle scenes, which is why the screenplay plays an important role. Singh and Girish Kohli weave in an emotional tale with just the right amount of humour and poignancy which shows the human side of the war without indulging in too much jingoism. The film does not blame any community or religion as such, and instead only highlights the futility of war.&nbsp;</p>

<p>'Kesari' triumphs ultimately because of the story itself — one that teaches us about courage and how to react in times of crisis. &nbsp;'Kesari' then is a story for all of us. &nbsp;</p>

<p>There is a lot to celebrate in director Jagan Shakti’s film 'Mission Mangal'. Based on ISRO’s successful Mars Mission in 2014 which catapulted India among the big league in the space program, the film celebrates the unrelenting hard work and dedication of 17000 engineers and scientists who made the mission possible.<br />

&nbsp;Written by Shakti and R Balki, who also serves as the creative director, ‘Mission Mangal’ may have taken copious liberty in terms of characterisations and over simplifies science but ultimately delivers a film that makes you proud of India and its unknown heroes.<br />

&nbsp;Akshay Kumar plays Rakesh Dhawan, a senior scientist who is made the director of Mission Mars after one of his earlier missions fail. It’s sort of a punishment posting to a department which most ISRO scientists feel will never take flight. Tara Shinde (Vidya Balan), Raghav’s project manager in previous missions though thinks otherwise. As Rakesh and Tara go on convincing the higher authorities of the organisation about their mission, they face multiple obstacles from the word go. From setting up a team of experienced people to getting an approval of the desired budget, to getting the desired satellite in the orbit of Mars in a limited time- nothing seemed to go in their favour initially.</p>

<p>Eventually, they put together a motley group of junior scientists consisting of Eka (Sonakshi Sinha), Kritika (Taapsee Pannu), Neha (Kirti Kulhari), Varsha (Nithya Menen), Parmeshwar(Sharman Joshi) and Ananth (HG Dattatreya)- who initially are not willing to put extra hours at work but later come on board to achieve the impossible.</p>

<p>While the story is an inspiring one, it is the oversimplification that spoils the narrative. Science is dumbed down to make it more relatable for the audience at large. Then there are several scenes which seem so unnecessary to the main plot and one can feel that it has put there merely to make a science-heavy film more commercially viable.</p>

An ailing Army officer eggs his scientist wife to go back to work and not turn into a nurse because she too is on duty for the country. The story- through its subplots- also pay token mention to certain pertinent issues at hand including Islamophobia, and women’s right to choose career over motherhood. And while the intent is good, one can’t help but wonder if it has all been included to appease one and all.</p>

<p>All the actors deliver commendable performances but it's Vidya Balan who shines the most. Even though her character seems an extension of what she played in ‘Tumhari Sulu’- as the multi-tasker cool mom, Balan still manages to shine the most in ‘Mission Mangal’. Her eyes light up every time the mission leaps ahead, her eyes look tired and worn out when her ever complaining husband (Sanjay Kapoor) nags about some household chores that hasn’t been done. Balan is such a natural and manages to fit into every character she plays really well making it her own. The other lead Akshay Kumar, who also serves as the producer of the film, lets Balan take the centre stage, while Kumar is himself pretty comfortable playing a maverick scientist. Of course, he gets to say the dramatic patriotic lines on more occasions than one but the actor makes his character quite believable. Much like their characters, Kumar and Balan ably support each other- their camaraderie spills out the screen and they make for an interesting pair. Bollywood films usually romantically pair up two lead actors in a film, so it&nbsp;is interesting to watch the actors play a boss and a subordinate in this film instead.</p>

The women have to manage home and work and only listen to taunts of a senior scientist, a NASA returned, Indian American played by Dalip Tahil, who makes his character more comical than evil. I also wish they had shown more of ISRO and the work they did to achieve such a feat instead of dramatising the personal stories of each of the women.</p>

Termed as ‘MOM’ (Mars Orbit Mission) it truly celebrates its women and lets the male superstar underplay his role. 'Mission Mangal' review: Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan's film makes science easy and entertaining

<p>It's not easy to outshine Akshay Kumar in a comedy. Akshay Kumar has, over the years, created a niche of sorts in this genre and has delivered some memorable performances in films that have over the years attained cult status. But in debutant filmmaker Raj Mehta film 'Good Newwz, Kumar underplays his character Varun Batra and hands the baton to Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh as he plays the boisterous, loud Honey Batra effortlessly. Dosanjh is so good in the film, that in scenes where the two actors share the frame, he outshines Kumar easily.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A comedy of errors, 'Good Newwz' pits Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor- as the sophisticated, classy Mumbai-based Batras against the loud, boisterous Batras (Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani) from Chandigarh. The two couples have been trying to have children for the past few years, we are told, and after numerous attempts, opt for IVF(in-vitro fertilization) process. The lab at the clinic does a goof up and that leads to the two uncanny parent-to-be come face to face and chaos ensues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The characterization is quite apt. The two couples are as different as chalk and cheese and share DNA's of their unborn children. Deepti and Varun are a working couple living at an upscale apartment in Mumbai. Career oriented, the couple represents millions of similar urban couples in India who give their work the top priority and try for children only when they realise they don't have too much time on their hand. Honey and Monika Batra, on the other hand, are relatively younger, come from an affluent family in Chandigarh and even though they are up to date with modernities of big cities, they are still steeped in traditional values and leave a lot in the hands of 'Mata rani'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Writers Jyoti Kapoor, Rishabh Sharma along with Mehta (who serves as the co-writer as well) tend to spopoon feed the audience with too many details but dialogues and the sly dig at the class divide is on point. There is ample regional stereotyping in the way Honey and Monika's characters are depicted. They are loud and mispronounce almost all English words include 'Spam'(Sperm), 'Flesh'(Flush) and 'Hornors'( Honors). But such a depiction is important to highlight the stark difference between the two couples, perhaps. While Deepti and Varun are not okay with the mixed DNA of their unborn child, Honey and Monika are concerned for the well being of the baby considering Deepti is a busy working professional. The two couples judge each other owing to the cultural and demographical differences throughout.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dosanjh is easily the best thing about the film 'Good Newwz' and makes Honey an extension of his personality. There is plenty of toilet humour, but Dosanjh and Kumar deliver those lines with absolute ease. Dosanjh lights up the screen every time he is in it and makes Honey an endearing, caring man. Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, plays the weary Varun Batra who is not too convinced about having children even though he goes along with whatever his wife Deepti wants. The two men are strikingly different. Kumar, who has played the goofball in several films in the past, sometimes struggles to fit into his character. In comparison, Dosanjh shines and easily dominates every frame.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two women- though are pitch-perfect. Kapoor, once again, reminds us why she is still celebrated as a star actress in Bollywood. As Deepti, the ambitious woman who now wants to have a child, Kapoor is brilliant. Advani, relatively new compared to her co-stars, makes Monika endearing and naive. She is perhaps the most positive character in the story and your heart goes out to her on several occasions.&nbsp;Adil Hussain and Tisca Chopra also have delightful cameos as the doctor couple at the IVF clinic who mistakenly create the sperm swap.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film takes time to take off though. The film opens with Varun and Deepti and their struggle to get pregnant. But once the other Batras come in, it's one of hell of a laugh riot. 'Good Newwz', also, very beautifully highlights the constant pressure that several modern couples in India face to procreate and have children- even though they are not too interested.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The good news about 'Good Newwz' is that it makes for a perfect watch as we close this year. Go and laugh out loud with the Batras this holiday season.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This is huge! Filmmaker Rohit Shetty who has created a cop universe with films like 'Singham', 'Simmba' and the upcoming 'Sooryavanshi' is all set to present Hollywood film 'Bad Boys For Life' that features Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the lead.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Shetty took to Instagram to share a clip that features Desi and 'Videshi' cops- all in the same video! The video announced Shetty's association with the Hollywood project.&nbsp;<br />

<p>Forbes revealed its Indian list of Celebrity 100 for 2019 and you will be surprised to see that cricketer Virat Kohli left all actors behind to take the first position. The Indian cricket team captain replaced Salman Khan on the first position as the handsome actor climbed down to number 3.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The second position was taken by Akshay Kumar who had several film releases this year and was also a part of many brand endorsements, making a big chunk of his annual earnings.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Virat managed his uphill task to the top position, and was successful for the first time in eight years since the launch of Forbes India Celebrity 100 List, to replace all Indian actors. He earned Rs 252.72 crore between October 1, 2018, and September 30, 2019. His earnings are a collective of match fees, the BCCI central contract, brand endorsements and an eight-figure fee for every sponsored Instagram post.</p>

<p>Second on the list, Akshay Kumar earned Rs 293.25 crore while Salman Khan, who ruled at the top since 2016 slipped to number 3 with Rs 229.25.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the trailer launch of the film, Akshay Kumar revealed the secret behind doing films with new directors as he said, "I work with new directors because big directors don't take me (in their films). That is the truth.” The question came up when Karan Johar highlighted that he is one of the few stars who had worked with many debutant directors.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Akshay further said, "When big people don't take you (in their films), you have to start your own journey. If you don't get a job in a big publication, you will go through a smaller one. From there you jump. You cannot just sit at home and wonder why people don't take me (in their films) despite me being so capable."</p>

<p>Did he mean they wanted to work with Khan only? Akshay said, "They (big directors) went to the people who deserved. You see, it's not that only the Khans were around. There were the Kapoors and the others. I presume I didn't deserve it, so I earned it my way."</p>

<p>He added, "I still don't have big directors (directing me). They are producing films with me, but they are not directing. Mr Karan Johar is there, you should ask him. You should ask Adi Chopra.”</p>

<p>Sharing his experience of working with newcomer directors, Akshay said, "Raj (Mehta, Good Newwz director) is my 21st new director. I also feel their greed to do good work is far more than many old directors. For them, it is a do or die situation, because (they think) if the film doesn't work, then they are finished."</p>
