He is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and served as the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat for two terms from 2016 to 2021.&nbsp;Rupani began his political career as a student activist with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and later joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He became part of Jan Sangh in 1971.&nbsp;He served as the mayor of Rajkot from 1996 to 1997, and in 1998, he was appointed as the BJP's Gujarat unit general secretary.
