WATCH - Ramandeep Singh bags a one-handed stunner against Pakistan-A

The India-A all-rounder Ramandeep Singh produced one of the greatest catches of recent times. Playing against arch-rivals Pakistan-A in their scheduled Emerging Asia Cup 2024 tie in Oman, Ramandeep’s one-handed stunner near the boundary line to dismiss Yasir Khan left everyone, including the spectators and commentators, awestruck.

That catch, however, turned the momentum in India’s favour, as they eventually defended 184 in the marquee clash, winning the match by seven runs.

Meanwhile, India-A won the toss and opted to bat first at Al Amerat Cricket Ground, with openers Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh putting up the fifth gear upfront. The pair added 68 runs for the first wicket, with India international Abhishek slamming 35 off 22 balls, including two sixes and five fours.

Sufiyan Muqeem dismissed Abhishek, giving him a sendoff, which led to the umpire’s intervention.

Prabhsimran departed soon after, with the Mumbai Indians pair of Nehal Wadhera and skipper Tilak Verma pressing on the accelerator, adding 38 for the third-wicket stand. Captain Verma led from the front, scoring 44 in 35 deliveries.

Although the lower order failed to contribute enough with the bat, the top-order’s exploits helped India put a fighting total of 183 for eight in 20 overs.

Seamers win it for India

India-A got a brilliant start by picking two wickets inside three overs, including removing their captain Mohammad Haris on just six. At a time when Pakistan-A was cruising ahead on the back of a 52-run stand for the third wicket between Yasir and Qasim Akram, Ramandeep’s brilliance near the boundary line broke the camel’s back, putting Pakistan on the backfoot from that moment.

Although Arafat Minhas kept Pakistan-A alive in the chase with a gritty 41 off 29 balls, alongside handy contributions from Abdul Samad (25) and Abbas Afridi (18), the J&K seamer Rasikh Dar Salam’s late heroics in the penultimate over won the game for India.

The pacer returned with two wickets, the same as Nishant Sidhu, but India-A’s highest wicket-taker was Anshul, who returned with three wickets.

Meanwhile, India-A will face the UAE on Monday (Oct 21).
