Tiger Woods couldn't sleep due to Trump assassination attempt

Former United States President Donald Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt on Saturday (July 13) while speaking at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The incident shook the whole world - an attack on a former president who is also running for president again. One of the persons on whom the incident took a serious toll is Tiger Woods. The golfer, who flew from Florida on Saturday for the 152nd edition of the Open Championship in Scotland, says he couldn't sleep on the flight because of the shooting.
Woods said that he was busy watching the coverage of the shooting throughout the flight and didn't sleep at all. He added that the sleepless flight left him weary for the first practice round at Royal Troon on Sunday. “I didn’t accomplish a lot because I wasn’t in the right frame of mind,” Woods told BBC Sport.
“It was a long night and that’s all we watched the entire time on the way over here. I didn’t sleep at all on the flight, and then we just got on the golf course.”
Trump and Woods's friendship goes back a long time. The two have often played several rounds on the course together. Notably, the former presidentis an avid golfer himself and can be often seen playing.
During his time as president, in 2019, he awarded Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom after winning the Masters upon his return to the sport.

Tiger Woods at the OpenChampionship
Woods is eyeing a fourth Open Championship victory, teeing off on Thursday. He has won the championship previously in 2000, 2005 and 2006. He has been battling injuries and has also been in rehabilitation following leg injuries in a 2021 car crash. All this has left him making a handful of appearances in competitive golf.
Woods is currently 48 and wants to play for as long as he can. Taking a dig at world No.2 Colin Montgomerie, who suggested Woods should retire, he said, "Well, as a past champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60. Colin’s not."
"He’s not a past champion, so he’s not exempt. So he doesn’t get the opportunity to make that decision. I do."
Trump assassination attempt
When Trump was shot at by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, he miraculously dodged death. The bullet slightly grazedhis right ear, causing an injury. Everyone was in shock to see someone try to kill the former president.
People at the scene recall how they saw a man crawling on the terrace of a building and alerted the officials, but nothing was done and Trump kept speaking. The former presidentmade his first speech since the shooting on Thursday at the Republican Convention, saying "God was on his side".
