Former India captain Sourav Ganguly feels Rohit’s Indian Team has what it takes to win the 2024 T20 World Cup Final against South Africa. Ganguly backs the Men in Blue to break the 11-year ICC trophy drought deadlock by topping another unbeaten unit at the tournament, South Africa. However, he jokingly remarked if India failed to win this time (the second ICC Final in around seven months), Rohit would jump into the Barbados ocean.
Since taking over the India captaincy from Virat across formats a couple of years ago, Rohit has led the Indian Team to three ICC Finals, including the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia last year and the 50-over World Cup at home a few months later; however, India lost to Australia on both occasions.
After seven months since that heartbreak, Rohit has led his team to another ICC tournament final, this time facing a different opponent in South Africa.
“I don't think he can lose two World Cup finals in seven (six) months. He will probably jump into the Barbados ocean if he loses two finals under his captaincy in seven months,” Ganguly said, as quoted by PTI.

Rohit has been India’s best batter in the past two matches, both crucial - one against Australia and a semi-final clash against England. While he made headlines for his inning of the tournament against the Aussies, scoring a brilliant 92, Rohit weathered the big-game storm in the semis by scoring a fifty (57) on a tricky Guyana track against England.

Complimenting Rohit for his incredible outings thus far, Ganguly said, “He has led from the front, batted brilliantly, and I hope it continues tomorrow. Hope India finishes on the right side, and they should play with freedom. They have been the best side of the competition. I wish them luck; I wish they win. Hope they have a little bit of luck tomorrow because that is required to win big tournaments.”
‘Hope Rohit does it’
Much like a billion Indian cricket fans worldwide, Ganguly also hopes that Rohit leads his team to the ultimate glory. However, he backed his credentials to get the job done, considering his success as the Mumbai Indians captain in the IPL, having won five trophies.
“Rohit has the record of winning five IPL titles, which is a huge achievement. Winning an IPL sometimes is more difficult. Don't misquote me, I'm not saying IPL is better than international cricket,” said Ganguly.
“But you have to win 16-17 (12-13) matches to win an IPL; here you need to win 8-9 matches to win a World Cup. The honour is more in winning the World Cup, and I hope Rohit does it tomorrow,” Ganguly concluded.
