IPL 2024: Gautam Gambhir has taken a swipe at AB de Villiers
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were on the cusp of victory in their defence of 223/6 versus Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 31 of IPL 2024, on Tuesday (April 16), at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Riding on Sunil Narine's maiden IPL ton (109), KKR posted a mammoth score after being asked to bat first. In reply, Sanju Samson & Co. were in need of 79 off the last 30 balls with opener Jos Buttler and power-hitter Rovman Powell in the middle. With Powell starting the onslaught, Buttler also joined the party after a slow startand the Englishman's unbeaten 107 took his side home on the penultimate ball of the contest, with two wickets in hand.
While KKR had the game in their grasp for most parts, they spilt it in the end overs due to Powell and Buttler's late charge. Despite the win, former Kolkata skipper and their current mentor Gautam Gambhir shared a heartfelt post for the two-time winners on Instagram.

Under Gambhir, KKR had their best run from 2011-2017. They managed to win both their titles under him and also entered the playoffs in 2011, 2016 and 2017. With him back in the Kolkata dugout, the Iyer-led side have started positively in the ongoing edition. Despite the loss to RR, KKR remain in the second spot with four wins from six encounters. In addition, they have a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) of +1.399.

KKR will be eager to move past their shocking defeat to Rajasthan and gear up for their next tie, where they host the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday (April 21). RCB are struggling at the bottom with only a solitary win from seven games.
